There's something about this version that captures the tone of the song absolutely perfectly. I don't know if it's the slightly mystical backing or her gorgeous voice or what, but it's such a gorgeous cover - and WHY did RUclips not recommend this to me till a month after Christmas???
Absolutely phenomenal. Her beauty was an absolute spectacle, and her voice and phrasing so uniquely her own. She was off the hook amazing in the 60's and 70's.
absolutely beautiful--this is the best rendition of this hymn I've ever heard and I'm so glad to finally find the video. Christmas isn't Christmas without Ms. Andrews singing this song. God bless her always.
@10skylark She definitely isn't mouthing to a recording, she is a classically trained colorotura soprano, and so she is perfectly able to sing like this live with an orchestra and have it sound amazing, just like she would have on Broadway. I think autotune has definitely skewed how we all percieve singers today, because celebrities who don't have talent like Julie's are able to sound perfect live due to recordings. But she is definitely singing, she is just that good :)
I'm used to having to correct the aspect ratio, but what has happened to the vertical hold here! In fact for most of the clip I can't even see how the bottom bit fits to the main bit, though at the end I can see her eyebrows. Lovely voice, lovely face. (Where it's not drifting out of clip that is!)
Does anyone remember seeing Julie perform this song in another Christmas Special in the late 70's? It might have been as a guest spot on a John Denver Christmas Special or something, but she was standing on the top roof of the Hohensalzburg Castle in Austria wearing a fur coat, I believe. The arrangement was exactly the same (obviously lip-synced), but it was a memorable performance just the same. I would love to see that performance again if anyone has a copy of it!
Here you are: ruclips.net/video/h5RAAeTbmck/видео.html - ITBM, just as you describe it, starts at about 24:41. It (the whole 53'+ prog., I mean - she does ITBM without them) is with John Denver, Peaceful Sunday, and the Kings' Singers. Looks like a very nice special (I didn't look at all of it).
I can easily set aside personal bias and say that Julie Andrews' singing of "In the bleak Midwinter" is much better than the the performance by the PBCC choir, in which I took part a year ago. The video accompaniment here is very nice, too. I wonder if Julie Andrews has been born again? Thank you GirlsInGerGirlSinger for posting this.
Allah's gift to mankind. What a beautiful voice! What a loss to us that she cannot sing like this anymore. Perhaps if God wills, she will get her voice back, just one more time to serenade our lives with her bell like voice and immaculate phrasing.
Shams Jesus Christ is god and all he desires is your heart, no matter what people say or books say, your heart and love us en I ugh for your own salvation. nothing else friend, just smile back and open your heart to our Lord, no sacrifices, no rituals just a friendship with your father is all that is needed and it's all he yearns for. when we turn our back to our father he cries just as you would if your son turned on you. With love brother, the time is coming.
And to shams I say - these idiots don't understand that the Muslim world had city lights and was tolerant of both Christianity and Judaism - while a bunch of thugs from Europe came over and slaughtered thousands of Muslim men, women and children in the name of 'Jesus Christ"
Starting with that loathsome troglo-traitor Bill Barr. He's the one that got the Iran-Contra people off anyway - which was the beginning of this mess. Things aren't really going the way you'd hoped, are they?
Slavery was America's first great test. Defeating right wing fundamentalism seeking to overthrow the constitution - You are next. And you are laughably on the wrong side of History.
i have this recording and it's very old but it's still my favourite version, i think she must be mouthing this song as it sounds too much like the recording even tho' this is supposed to be from a tv special, i know this song by heart, i've heard it so many times every Christmas for almost 40 yrs. nothing wrong with her mouthing it, i'm happy she is, i always like the original recorded version of songs anyways.
For technical reasons Julie is definitely lip-synching but she is so much the perfectionist that it's almost impossible to perceive. Doesn't take away from the fact that this is an exemplary recording of a lovely carol.
I heard this song so long ago I believe personally before she was even born I love you Earth happy mother's Day

Hey, get to listening to this again, it's coming on Christmas. :)
@@GuruishMike I will thanks for reminding me! 😊
It's her voice. Julie Andrews voice is the most angelic thing imaginable.
Beautiful-- my favorite performance of this song. Thank you for posting 👏🎶
As always Julie Andrew's is magnificent! I love this 🎵!
One word: perfect.
Absolutely phenomenal. Her beauty was an absolute spectacle, and her voice and phrasing so uniquely her own. She was off the hook amazing in the 60's and 70's.
I’m glad I came across this on Christmas Eve, on the fiftieth anniversary of its recording. ❤
I love the way Julie Andrew's sings this song. One of my favorite holiday songs!
This has been my favourite Christmas carol since I first heard Julie sing it seven years ago!!!
absolutely beautiful--this is the best rendition of this hymn I've ever heard and I'm so glad to finally find the video. Christmas isn't Christmas without Ms. Andrews singing this song. God bless her always.
Beautiful rendition with a beautiful voice. Thank you for posting this.
One of the most beautiful voices for illuminating text, that has ever existed. Thank you for posting this.
Lovely beyond words.
a simple but glorious song, by a glorious voice!
Beautiful 🥰
Voice of an angel
Like an Angel is Ms. Julie, thank you for this post of this wonderful song and a world treasure like Julie Andrews
In The Bleak Midwinter - poem by English poet Christina Rossetti and written in 1872. Music by English composer Gustav Holst. It’s beautiful isn’t it
I Love Julie's voice!♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful! It really sucks that Julie Andrews no longer has her singing voice.
Let's not give up on JA as a singer just yet. She's sung in "Princess Diaries 2" and on her Netflix series, and she sounds wonderful.
Absolutamente fantástica! Música linda!
Sensational
I'm convinced Julie Andrews is an actually Angel in the guise of a human. On my dog's grave!
As graceful as ever.
Love Julie Andrews for sure not just for Mary Poppins and Sound of Music.. Also her soprano voice when shes singing.....
one of my fav song of julie

It's reminds me when Thomas Shellby didn't avoid crying in the funeral of his beloved horse.
😔😪

Nice one from the Penny's

Not technical reason. They were all forced to lip sync back them for better ratings on the channel
They said get your hair out of there is that laughing or what
She did not sing the second verse....
To late to marry her I think
i mean shes single...
Well she has been the widow ( of Blake Edwards) since 2010,after 41 years of marriage.
I like Susan better
