My great grandfather and his brothers fought for the British army even though were Irish. They had all die except for his brother who came back a very different man. My great grandfather died at verdun and his other brother died at passchendaele. I still vist his grave to say "in the bleak midwinter"

Harry Fleming the thing was mate the Germans didn’t have the naval capacity and air capacity to invade mainland Britain in both wars the sad fact is we only joined the First World War so Germany wasn’t the dominant superpower in Europe to stop the spread we could/should have stayed out that war.

101 years of the armistice today. I'm not even european, but the struggle of this men will forever be in my heart. RIP to all the deceased during this terrible conflict.
European countries forced the soldiers of colonized countries to fight and die for them
Live in the States and we have a plaque in our town with over 300 names of men from here (not a big town either) who fought in Europe during WWI. Makes me get goosebumps as I pass it on my daily walks and look at the names of those youngsters. God bless them and their descendants.

Wow I am gobsmacked , that these two beautiful girls have taken the trouble to make this amazing tribute to soldiers on both sides of the worst conflict in human history is just indicative of something much deeper than two “millennials “ making music. Girls I can assure you that these long ago men would be so moved and grateful to you. As am I thank you very much.
My great uncle David Long, was killed in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in WW1 right before the war ended. He was a messenger running back and forth delivering orders when he was hit by cannon fire. Unfortunately there wasn't hardly anything left of him when they found him. His twin brother also served in WW1 making it through the war unharmed.

The War to End All Wars they said. My late father, barely more than a boy, served and survived. A maternal;uncle
died in combat. No other conflict marked the generations so grievously in Blighty. It changed so much of life thereafter. This carol is a soulful fitting companion to the memory of all who knew those times "long ago".
If only all war could be settled with a game and the opponents share a meal together after.
