Man, I didn’t know he had anything to do with unwritten law, thanks to him my uncle wade the drummer for the band was able to live out a rockstar lifestyle and still is, rock on!! 🤘

I was at that Blink 182 and Pennywise tour in 1995! Saw them at The Roxy in Brisbane. Great memories and awesome to hear Rick talk about it. Proud that Australia loved Blink 182 so much

The first time I heard damnit was the furious 5 at nine on 92.3 K-rock in NYC, Crazy Cabbie did the countdown when they played Blink. Was it syndicated because I was in NJ and that countdown was a 92.3 thing.. Recorded it off my boom box with a cassette and went to see them at Hunka bunka (now starland) on the Less than jake tour. Previously only saw them at warped in Asbury and at the stone pony on the Good times tour.

Whilst they obviously got a bit of blow back being labelled 'sellouts', the thing is, they weren't really yet ingrained on any of the more 'scene' labels like fat, lookout, epitaph, discord, sst, etc etc and been banging around the scene for year at gilman st.
It's funny though, the 'sell out' crowd who may black ball a band are only the crowd where a 'successful tour', is coming home with no added debt and everyone maybe even having a couple of hundred bucks in their pocket.
Super wise and savvy call from Rick and the band to sign with MCA though. The ceiling would have absolutely been lower at epitaph, i mean look at the label, theres a ceiling that no one has exceeded since randcid and offspring. Brett had his own personal problems going into the early 2000's as well.
Awesome that this interview just randomly appeared in my suggested list. It's cool to put a face to the name, because Rick DeVoe was always prominent, being one of those types that will read every word on the cereal box, album inserts, every page in a news paper.
Stoked that he found success by staying true to himself, being real and by the sounds of it, treating and dealing with others as he would like to be treated, especially in this industry.
Great interview! Thanks for your efforts.
Rick.....speak to the band Ways Away and work some magic. Why they're not blowing up on a greater level is beyond me. Sergie from samiam, knapsack etc..jesse Barnett from stick to your guns...shavelson fron paint it black, no more black and ian smith. At the least..... bring them to Australia to tour for me 😂

Back then signing to a Major was the only way to ensure you could music for a living and what I found funny about people calling bands like blink sellouts are then fans of bands like Ramones and Sex Pistols who were also on Major labels
Despite how difficult it is now to get noticed with the internet been so easy to use and get attention, I’m glad it’s not essential to sign to a major label anymore to make a living out of music

I saw Blink in Ottawa on the Sno-Core tour, along with The Bosstones, Alkoholiks, Primus, Aquabats etc...might’ve been one of Scott’s last shows. I gotta say, I prefer OG Blink with Scott over Travis era Blink ANY day.

I've never really asked the question, but this so-called emo record that Rick refers to, what were these songs? Was it just Take Off minus Rock Show and First Date? Was it some Box Car ideas perhaps? Are there unreleased demos that have never surfaced?
