Someone should do an documentary called “Finding Scott Raynor”. And the film recounts and shows clips of his history, his time with blink, the journey to get in touch with him and hopefully ends with the first on camera interview talking about his time with blink and the breakup (that I can remember) followed by showing what he’s doing now.

It would be cool if they did a one off show with him playing Buddha,Cheshire cat, They came to conquer uranus, And Dude ranch material. Plus Mutt and maybe a song from after he left that he likes. Maybe a new song with him on drums produced by Travis or have it with both of them in drums because I dont really like Travis producing Blink.

I think Blink-182 should have Scott come on stage for a few shows in their home area for a couple of songs.

Im almost completely sure his first show was at the Rainbow Ballroom in Fresno on May 30. the Aquabats opened. I was 18 years old and remember that show and I distinctly remember Mark and Tom on stage talking about how this drummer learned the whole set in an hour. I also remember being bummed cause I didn't want to see them play with a fill in drummer.. I had no way of knowing at the time how well that would all work out!

That’s interesting because Rick mentioned Fresno too iirc. Are you positive on that date? We have blink playing in DC on 5/30/1998, which is actually the last photo proof we have of Scott on drums. By 6/8 he’s never seen again. Would love to chat more on this, hit me up on the pod IG if you can! 🤘🏻🐇

@@182newspod Blink-182 played at the Rainbow Room in Fresno on April 30, 1998 with Aquabats, Assorted Jellybeans, and No One's Victim. Show started at 7pm and the cost was... get this... $12.50
Edit: Rick DeVoe also put out a formal announcement on July 3, 1998 stating that Raynor had departed Blink and that Barker was taking over permanently. It was noted that Barker had been filling in for gigs that Raynor could not attend.

I wish you pressed a little more on the scott raynor situation. It seems like it was something to do with substance abuse (man overboard), but i still think there is more to the story than that. Its been like over 20 years, it blows my mind there is no solid answer. LOL

At the Warped tour of 97 Blink & Aquabats both played. Auqabats jumped into the Bay after they finished their early set. Warped was on a jetti in the San Diego Bay. Blink 182 closed the show as it was customary for the band to do on their home town as they weren't that famous then so their were probably a few opportunities for them to meet up.

From what we know Scott didn't want fame and wanted to just be a regular dude who played music. That's why theres limited info on him. It's like one of us having content made about us.

    • @hermunkulus

This is exactly it. Scott wanted the band to sign with Epitaph for more creative freedom and stay underground, while Mark and Tom wanted to stick with MCA to continue building off of the success of Dude Ranch (which, along with getting Jerry Finn ended up being the right decision and bringing them to stardom).
They should have parted ways at that point, but he stuck with them (hence referring to himself as "dead weight"). Between that and the death in his family ultimately lead to the drinking to off-set his personal problems and eventual firing despite agreeing to go to rehab.

There's a word that means "using a thing as an excuse/justification to do another thing you want when under normal circumstances the previous thing wouldn't bother you."
I don't believe Scott was fired because he was drunk too much or that he was aggressive and hostile at times. Those things might have been used as a reason to Scott, but I don't believe they were the primary force. He may have been those things at certain points, but so were a lot of musicians in bands. Management don't go around firing Steve Tyler from Aerosmith and Joe Walsh from the Eagles because they did coke before a show.
Blink knew they were on the verge of getting huge, despite all three not being extraordinary musicians. I believe Mark and Tom and saw an opportunity where they could nab Travis, who would end up being the only virtuoso musician Blink 182 would have, and went for it. It's rude, but I'm sure that's what happened.

@@bobthedopeman7327it's too late to admit it. After 25 years.....that's a long time. It most likely was the case. Travis was tight and top tier in their genre, it tightened the band, he was "hot" and had that extra sex appeal thing that wasn't possible otherwise. Even if they didn't blow up, it was the beat decision for business. Unless Scott somehow became travis barker amounts of fame, and tom and mark faded into obscurity being known as "the two guys who where in Scott's band in the 90s...don't remember their names..."

  • @maniman-human227

That's what I assumed happened from the jump, I was a Scott apologist and would tell ppl he's the better drummer (knowing I'm wrong) just because I was sure he was kicked because Travis was better and "looked the part". I turned on blink after that bc I was a dumb kid who thought his opinion mattered. So much as to tell DeVoe how I felt at the blink 182 booth at 1999 Van's Warped Tour. Kids are dumb but Travis still ain't punk.
