The Toyota transmissions for the 2jz were the V160 (Mk IV Supra), V161 (Later model Mk IV Supra), W58 (Sc300/non-turbo Mk IV Supra and a few other models), and the R154 (Mk III Supra, but if you get a bell housing off a 1jz car, it will bolt right up to a 2jz).
06 has the upgrades synchros and also stays clutch fork. Once you go to 07+ it's a jk40c trans which has the internal slave cylinder that cant handle the power as well. You have the best cd009 you can buy. I am running the same for my car going on my 2jz as well.
Also with the jk40c trans you are able to buy an upgraded concentric slave cylinder($500) or convert it back to a clutch fork setup ($1k) not as cost effective as just buying the 06 bolting on and calling it a day lol figured I'd enlighten for ppl wanting to go this route tho.
I've got a W58 in my SC300. Unfortunately if I ever want to go turbo or swap the motor, the transmission will turn to dust. Nice to see that there's this option
hey man! I just wanted to say I'm a huge fan of all your videos. I'm actually going to be doing this exact build as you this summer or fall on my 240z. I've been following you since the start just by chance and dumb luck youtubing 240z 2jz. I love all the things you point out as it will save me the frustration or at least I can prepare myself for the rage moments haha keep it up! I appreciate everything!
+kasmerboudreau Thanks for the kind words buddy, much appreciated! I hope I can ease the frustrations of those doing similar things...I know these projects can really make you want to burn these cars to the ground sometimes
After hearing what people have to spend to adapt a cd009 it seems like T56 magnum is the best 2JZ 6 speed option ever. I just havent seen proof of cd009 holding up to serious power. Would have to see more then one putting down 800+ whp. I havent seen one yet. Post links please!
Hey man just found your channel. I am very stoked for more vids, it has also been a long time coming for someone to make a channel dedicated to the 2jz. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I have a 95 supra turbo 6spd but am wary for the future when I have to do a expensive rebuild. This is really nice to see other options. Subcribbed!
Good deal! thanks for clearing up about the newer and older versions of the CD009. I did want to say that there are a few more options for transmissions. you did mention the GetRag (V160) and the W58, however the R154 is a great 5 speed that came in the MK3 Supras and SC300's over seas. Additionally there are I believe 2 companies making bell housing adapters to run a Tremec T56 6speed. Looking forward to watching the progress!!!
The GetRag is Unobtainium. R154 can be hard to come by but they are out there for sure. I just remembered they also came in MK3 US spec Supras. The T56 is endlessly available, and incredibly strong. I looked into the CD009 option a few times, but most likely I will use an r154 with my 1J 280.
Bryant Escobedo hey I’m doing a very similar build! What adapter did you use, and also how far off was your shifter? Did you buy a special shifter? Or have to cut the interior any?
see what im trying to figure out is if this would work in my supra. i want to convert my w58 to the cd009 6 speed. but apparently if you use just the regular convertion plate the transmission tunnel wont fit. but this is just what i've read. but the company i talked to said i would have to literally cut the cd009 transmission bell housing and they make a adaptor to run a different bell housing on it.
Almost a year old comment, but, I’m looking at 2jz striker Motor swapping my 350z soon. There’s an adapter from a company called Collins Adapters. collinsadapters.com/index.php/adapter-plates/1jz-ultimate-adapter-plate-0-625-a36-steel.html
Great job friend, could you tell me where you bought the kit to put the transmission of the Z350 009 in 2JZ please have a s15 with 2jz engine and already broke 4 transmissions 😣
Any place that make the conversion so I can put my 2jz engine to my is250 6 speeds manual transmission?! Send me the links. Nice video btw. Tks in advance
T56 is a solid option as well, much cheaper parts and it can handle 700hp easily from the factory. Grannas racing has a lot of information about this kit on a 2JZ on his website. The gear-ratios are longer but can be compensated with different rear end. :)
Gotta go twin. "Can handle up to 500 hp" is something, but how long it will handle up to 500hp is most important. An aftermarket performance single disc will rip you off in the long game every time. A good twin will handle more HP and last the distance more like a stock clutch on a na engine. Hell go triple if you can afford it.
Good video!!! Very helpful I have a question so I have a 1jz and a cd009 do I have to get the whole adapter plate or can I just get the adapter plate itself and get a cd009 stock flywheel and clutch kit would it bolt just right??
So grateful !!! for all this ! i needed all this info, trying to swap my z34 weaned it die... have life still 163 mils on it but not going to rebuilt... im going to swap ! LOL
What can a factory T56 hold? I know a CD009 holds 1,300hp and has put a 350z chassis car in the 9's in factory form. I also bought a CD009 for $585 after tax the other day. What do T56's go for?
@@2JZdatsun the later revisions from the 370Z have held over 1000hp, but it's a roll of the dice, kind of like the myth that every 2J can do over 1000hp.
V160 - hard and expensive to get W58 - cheap but not very strong for big power R154 (you forgot to mention) - not as expensive, can be built to handle big power but still a bit difficult to get.
just wanted to say thank you I'm looking for ideas for a manual for my 01 is300 and I think this might fit the bill for my street setup so much cheaper then the v160 swap
So I just bought a GS300 for 400 bucks and was all bummed that the damn getrag tranny cost an arm and a leg. Surfed the web and found this vid. its a wrap!!!
Have you been in contact with this guy at all been trying to get a hold of this company for about a month now and have gotten no response on any kind of media
How will you be getting the speedo to work? I'm in a process of gathering my z34 trans into my KA just curious just to get a better ideal. I've read some use Dakota Digital GPS (no ABS)
Really looking forward to the future videos of this build! I have the ge motor too and wanted to swap the cd009 in as well, so its good to know that there's 2 versions of the trans
Both my project / toy fun cars are in the garage lol while me and my wifes car stay outside ( same thing lol ) and yeah most find it strange, But im not keeping the cars that are outside forever like I will the old cars stored inside. ( Sentra SE-R B13 / E36 BMW )
So I’m kinda new to all this car stuff. I love cars but I’m only 16. I watched a video of another guy with a Lexus is300 2jz ge with a cd009 but it had the gear whine you typically hear in race cars. I know this whine comes from straight cut gears but I was curious if there was a way to convert the helical gears to straight cut in the transmission before you put it in the car. I ask this because I absolutely adore the gear whine and I know I’ll only have the money to afford this later on but I do plan on owning a Lexus is300 as my first car.
Great video Thank you! I only track my Z , going with a short block build in late December... some where around 550HP.. I currently have the old stock Z transmission.. Would you suggest New CD009? Or buy used and rebuild?
Don't run this setup. I used the same adapter kit and ruined my trans within a couple hundred miles. The adapter doesn't use any dowel pins so the input shaft will 100% be misaligned during install. It ended up eating my input shaft bearing, making terrible noises on decel.
Great job with the new channel, Awesome build! Thumbs up from TRC 👍🏻

but which is better the cdo9 vs v160?
I have this kit, installed and it's subpar at best. Godspeed
What’s your gripe with it?
This is literally going to save me over $15K!!!
I have a 2j s15 with a fully built r154 and I really want to drag and roll race it so im glad to see the cd009 is a optional setup. 👍

Is it true you can't or shouldnt flat-foot shift/power shift a cd009 transmission if power is more than 500whp?
Have you measured your distance with transmission to center of shifter hole? Know which shifter kit you're using?
Thank you for giving me this idea and with the adapter even easier I've been trying to figure out what trans to use in my 280z 2j build

I plan to use the same trans on my rb 280z , but I think the gear are to short compared to the stock rb25 trans.
+Chris Gomez Yeah I'm not sure if these work with the RB engines

I think the T56 is a better/stronger 6spd option than the Cd009, and theyre close in price since the cd009 is going up in price.
