I could have tried hot glue as rivets but I think hot glue is not as good/durable as trimer line plastic.
After keyboard replacement some keys are somewhat lower that the others (Del, Home keys), but these works too and probably i will fix it next time when I will open the case.
    *************************************************************************
Update: November 2, 2021 - Today, after 2 years and 6 months, the keyboard it broke again!
TIP: Do not type with wet hands or type multiple keys in the same time!
I just renaming a file with random keys when the keyboard it broke again by turning laptop off, then I was unable to turning on again for more than 3 seconds (it turn off itself everytime). Temporary fix: disconnect the keyboard cable and use external one.Now I keep it always in sleep mode because otherwise I can't power on (power on key is in the keyboard itself).
    *************************************************************************
My laptop has been upgraded from 4 GB to 8 GB and Samsung 850 EVO SSD (120 GB) replaced default 1TB HDD.

Brilliant video. My Acer Apire keyboard packed in about a month out of warranty. I ordered a replacement keyboard which arrived last week and tonight I plucked up the courage to replace it myself. I've been building my own PCs for years and I must admit, this is one of the most difficult projects that I've undertaken (it took me around 3.5 hours). However, it's now working as good as new and I couldn't have done it without this tutorial. I've never used a soldering iron before and together with the removal of the plastic rivets, it is the most time consuming part of the job. Definitely not a job for the faint hearted!

Thank you..!! This was major helpful. I have been sitting on a replacement keyboard for my Acer Aspire R11 for months now. Everytime I tried to find any video on how to swap keyboards all I got was some guy popping the keyboard out from the front or someone talking about whether or not my keyboard replacement had screw holes or not. Finally realized in your video that I was dealing with the same cheap plastic rivet system. This gave me the confidence to dive in and I got it done in a couple of hours. Maybe I'm just pathetic at finding out info on the web but this was the only video I found that showed how to deal with all these plastic rivets.

who did that keyboard "mount" design seriously had too much confidence on the durability of it, cause its ALWAYS the keyboard that has problems on these.

Thanks for the video. I just followed it through a replacement, although I did use hot glue. Unfortunately I need to re-do it once I get another new keyboard, as I managed to destroy the ribbon cable for the backlights on the first one (upgrading to backlit was the reason for replacement). I might try to pick up a 3D printing pen for the rivets next time instead of the hot glue, especially since some dripped through and the Y and U keys are a bit sticky now.

A lot of work there, not DYI friendly. When you got to 'trimmer line' I was questioning what you were using, 'what is trimmer line for computer repair', but then I realized, you are using literally using line from a grass trimmer. Correct? That's a good tip!

Like most geeks, you have superb taste in music. And are a patient man. This project has been a turd sandwich. PLASTIC RIVETS 😳 Bastards. It’s like when I used to help friends install a new car stereo.... Honda or Toyota I shake my head and tell them, “you see, at the factories in Japan there’s an assembly line of radios, that is where they start and they build the car around it “🤣

Great Instruction fore taking it apart, but after fan installation, instruction are minimal (had to rewatch and extrapolate earlier in the video to put it back together). Warnings about the power jack being 2mm asymmetrical and which screws not to be put in before the case installation would have been good. Also it is possible to re use the plastic rivet heads when putting it back together. If you have a model with a cd drive remove it after the case screws but before separating the case. That said I couldn't have done the job without these instructions. Thank you.

Is it possible to test the new keyboard ( to see if it works ) without sealing those plastic mounts ? The reason I ask this question is that in case the new keyboard is defective, I do not wan to go thru all those steps to undo those heat seals .

I was curious on your thoughts regarding my acer aspire 5 A515, It is only the power button that is faulty, I removed the key and that seems to work for awhile buy now I cannot get it to every turn on when it powers off after hours. Sometimes I can, but it is a fight and others it takes ages. I was wondering if there is a simpler solution versus having to tear it all apart for a replacement keyboard?

I needed so hard to clean the keyboard because is dirty AF.
I don’t understand you acer, you let us change almos everything with relatively ease but not the keyboard? Wtf? Seriously?
