    Thank you for your informative video how to replace keyboard on Acer Aspire E1 laptop. You've shown the model first and the problem, shown how and where to take screws off and where to pray and making sure to not to damage or break the unit during opening the parts. You've shown where are the problems lies with these kind of keyboard and you've shown the final test after replacing with the new one whether it has really fix the problem, which is very crucial. I applaud you. The Video is very clear and crisp quality. No background music. I thank you again and I hope you'll come up with a video like this in the future again.

    Well done. I viewed a dozen videos on this to try to ascertain which of the two very similar slots the wide keyboard cable fitted into. You were the only one to show that bit explicitly.

    Hi John....just wanted to note that very often with these keyboards you can just place them in a warm water bath for a little while to dissolve any material/stickiness etc (after they were removed from the computer of coarse!). Then they can be gently dried in an airing cupboard or somewhere warm for a day or two and then re-fitted to the computer. There is rarely any permanent damage. Just thought i would offer this for anyone that can wait for it to dry.....then there is no money outlay, only time. Cool video, thanks!

    From my perspective, it would make more sense to connect the longest flex cable first and descend to the shortest cable last. By fixing the shortest cable first, you limited your movement to connect the rest. Let me know what you think...

    Built down to a price... how true. But it's the consumers that demand that, cheap products. As long as the manufacturer can build it to last the warranty period, it's all good. It's amazing how people generally trust these devices with their sensitive data.

      IsettasRock Is that true, many people pay extra for a brand name believing it will be better quality, rather than purchase a no name item. If you have more money I suppose you will be willing to spend even more for quality, if you're broke the decisions made for you :-) Judging from Jw comments he would like to have a choice of better quality rather than land fill material.

    Do you have quite a powerful wireless mic?
    I noticed a little crackle on the audio every time your screwdriver touched the laptop chassis, particularly when you had just removed the top housing and the screwdriver brushed against the plate behind the keyboard.
    A bit of RF in the air seems the only explanation....

    John, if I wanted to build a portable USB charger what would be the best way to go about it? In terms of a circuit board, batteries, resistors? Just out of interest. I know you can buy them but I'd like to build one. I would like to use it to charge an iPhone 5. I have an idea: USB outlet, micro USB inlet and maybe a Lithium ion 9V battery. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

      Simeon Witter To obtain 5V from a 9V battery the usual method would be a buck converter as described here: ruclips.net/video/CEhBN5_fO5o/видео.html
      Other methods exist but will be very inefficient.

      brian whittle Trackpads on laptops with number pads are typically placed center to the alphanumeric section of the keyboard, not the entire thing. Why? I don't bloody know, it's stupid in my opinion, but it seems to work as it's a long-standing trend within the major laptop manufacturers nowadays.

    • @DogsBAwesome
      @DogsBAwesome 9 лет назад

      Max C
      I know, the asymmetric trackpad placement really bugs me though, I wish they would stop. Also it's a common "feature" on laptops without a number section to have the trackpad slightly to the left, why?!

    • @nemthefearless
      @nemthefearless 9 лет назад +1

      brian whittle Consumer laptops got easier to service up till about 3 years ago, now the trend is going the other way. Acer want to save another mm of case thickness compared to last year's model but aren't going to spend the money to do it nicely.

      Replacement was from someone on ebay, but that was back in 2015.
      They are easier to find just by searching for 'acer e1 keyboard' or 'E1-532 keyboard; and checking the description to see what models it fits. One particular keyboard is often used in many different models.

      What do you mean "Acer hate"?

    • @erictjones
      @erictjones 7 лет назад

      I was being overly dramatic because at several points of his video, the author editorializes about the quality of the product in what I felt was a less than complimentary. I am an ACER owner and I absolutely love my $300 US computer. I agree that it was designed and produced to a price point and personally I am amazed at the durability and I am pleased that the cost was so reasonable. Also, even though the video was edited, the swap process takes less than 30 minuets and the part is $12 US, I mean come on that is cheap. The quality of the repair video overall is very nice, succinct but a bit opinion heavy in my own opinion.
      Lastly I will say this, Ultimately the damaged keyboard was likely very serviceable. Here are the steps:
      1. Detach the KB as shown.
      2. Using compressed air, remove any loose soil, >40psi
      3. Place the keyboard in a plastic tub and cover with distilled water, warm is better.
      4. Use a small amount of dish soap and agitate gently until the contaminant is removed.
      5. Rinse completely with fresh distilled water working all of the keys. Rinse it well.
      6, Air wash with compressed air removing as much water as possible.
      7. Place the unit on the middle rack of an oven that is warm ~ 140-160F for 60 minutes.
      8. Reinstall and enjoy.
      Distilled H2O $2 US

      He was just saying that the way it's put together is designed in order for them to save money to sell it cheaper. I have an Acer chromebook C720 and it's served me very well for what was pretty much $200 but it's not a scratch on quality next to my MSI GT70 which was like $2500
