It's honestly criminal how slept on and short lived Bonkers was at the time.. That was honestly a pretty great cartoon to watch.
Yes i agree with you, Bonkers were very funny.
I know, right?
Apparently the show had too many production issues because the Miranda episodes were supposed to air first but had to be redone, later Bonkers is transferred to work with Lucky who moves away after getting hired by the FBI.
Bonkers did have 65 episodes in four groups so it's a bit misleading to call it a single season. Other shows would only get 13 episodes a season.
It is on Disney+ but up until that time it was unavailable. I don't believe it's ever been released on DVD.
From my understanding, it had production issues where the Miranda Wright episodes were the original premises of the slated 65 episode series. However, Disney deemed the animation quality from overseas less than stellar, where they retooled the series with a team of writers. The new Wright then retooled the series where they replaced Miranda Wright with Lucky Piquel, but made the Piquel episodes taking place before Miranda's - Lucky Piquel's surname is probaby a "play-on-words" that his episodes are prequel episodes.19 of the Wright episodes were aired after the 42 Piquel episodes.
I digress. No offense to the video, but it is a misleading as some of these cartoons such as Bobkers and Double Dragon intended to be 1 season because it was the fashion at the time to make enough episodes for syndication. If you think about it, a lot of the Disney Afternoon cartoons like the Rescue Rangers and Tailspin didn't have additional episodes made for Saturday mornings. From my recollection, a few did such as Aladdin and Darkwing Duck.
As soon as I saw Family Dog, I thought he looked just like Sparky from Frankenweenie. Then when you mentioned Tim Burton worked on the show, it all made sense.
Same here. Frankenweenie traumatized me to a point that I can't forget it 30 years later.
@@CarysCreatesThings Family Dog is a cartoon I only know of because it received at least one video game tie in, as is also the case with Maya The Bee, Benjamin The Elephant and Initial D!
I miss swat cats. Used to watch that in 93. I remember also watching stunt dawgs as well. 93 was an awesome year. Playing Mario paint and what not. Much simpler times.
You have to hand it to CBS for turning an obscure comic like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs into a show. Usually, it was Fox who did that.
It was a cool show. I'm watching season one on Tubi.
I don't believe I saw it on CBS, but Teletoon (Canada, now called Cartoon Network) had it for a while in the early 2000s.
I never saw it but it actually looks kind of awesome 😂
I knew it as a Arcade game 1st. And it's still a pretty good game to replay.
They aired TMNT which started as an obscure indie comic so maybe they were hoping lighting would strike twice!
Bonkers was a terrific cartoon!
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was my favourite cartoon as a kid. Right up there with Batman the animated series, Xmen the animated series, ducktales, TMNT
I loved the adventure of sonic when I was younger I find it funny and charming
Bonkers and both of the Sonic cartoons I remember watching alot growing up😅
Heck, I started going back and try to get alot of them on DVD or Blu-ray.
I never would've known about the 90's Sonic cartoon if it wasn't for YTP.
Oddly, I remember The Family Dog appearing as part of some kind of special presentation. I only ever saw one episode but I liked it enough that I clicked on this video when I saw the dog in the header image.
Double Dragon cartoon series kick ass. 😀👍🎮
A lot better then the movie for sure. The toys were awesome too!
Haha... Yeah. Sure.
I used to love Double Dragon but I realize most of ALL Double Dragon content including the games aren't really that good.
@@Gatorade69SKULLMAGEDDON WOULD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION
I loved the theme song! The game based on the series (Double Dragon V) not so much
"To be a Dragon Master you gotta be strong 🎵🎶"
As a pre-teen, I watched Sonic, Dennis, Double Dragon, Droopy, and Bonkers. The latter were undoubtedly the best, and I still remember the theme-tune for Bonkers very fondly.
These shows were amazing when we were coming up….but for them being dubbed as failures is crazy
I loved Double Dragon. I just wish there was a better tie-in game more in line with traditional DD rather than a shitty SF clone.
YOU HAVE CROOOOO OMG I'm so happy!!! I caught reruns of this in the early 2000s on Nickelodeon and I loved it so much. Only ever saw like three episodes, but it stuck in my brain so hard.
This is the first mention of Cro I've seen in comments, This is a show I forgot I missed. Hit the nostalgia Hard. When remembering old cartoons at work, I hit Swat Kats, Tailspin by song alone, etc. But, I completely forgot this show existed.
I loved Bonkers! It was a fun little show.
Cadillac and Dinosaurs is awesome and I wish that a second season would happen. 😀👍
I’ve never seen the show myself but have heard it’s underrated and ahead of it’s time
At this point there's more likely for a remake to be made than a second season.
You could track down some of Zenozoic Tales, the comic the show was based on.
@@williamjameswXenozoic
@@writerpatrick That would actually be a cool idea. I saw the series back in the day and it was decent. Although viewable for all ages it really should have been specifically made for the early to mid-teen age range. With today's technology someone could remake/reboot it as a live-action / CGI show without much trouble. As long as they keep present day BS out of it, and employ their writers on merit rather than representation, I'm sure the show would have a chance.
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was so GD good.
Wow bonkers was actually good. I unlocked a bunch of memories watching this vid.
Awesome
I loved that Family Dog short! "Sniveling, snarling, white hot ball of canine terror!"
The theme song from Cro still gets stuck in my head once in a while.
I watched Speed Racer and still remember the theme song…😅😅😅😅
My mom and I love Bonkers! A fun Disney cartoon.
A classic
I'm surprised The Bots Master wasn't on the list
That was a hell of a show
I fucking STILL get that theme song stuck in my head!
It's about time I was recognized for my brilliance.
🙇♂ 😅👍
Man, I watched Droopy every Saturday morning!
Bonkers was criminally underrated.
And if you're doing an animated show that ran for two seasons you would be looking at Exosquad. It was one of few mature, animated shows that somehow made it as a kids' cartoon on Saturday morning. Basically, Exosquad was killing off main characters before Game of Thrones came out.
Hard as fuck
And Exosquad had a continuous storyline which was a rarity for children's cartoons at the time.
Mighty Max started in September 1993 and was highly underrated for a kid's show.
Didn't Exosquad run for a few years?
There was gonna be a season three where an alien race was to be introduced and the Neo-sapiens would team-up with the humans to fight them
RIP Martin Mull, who I first discovered on Family Dog!
I loved Bonkers! The lucky pickle joke still makes me laugh all these years later! Also, the "after these messages, we'll be riiiiiight back!" short is a punch right in the nostalgia gut. Memories from a better time.....
The Cartoony Version of Sonic the Hedgehog was the Best One!
Bonkers was Pretty Funny as well
AGREED Bonkers and ADVENTURES OF SONIC THE HEDGEHOG both of the one of favorite cartoons of mine
The early 90's were definitely the peak time in my childhood. I have such strong nostalgia for everythiing from the period of like 91-95!
An awesome era
Sane, same.
1988-1995 was pinnacle Saturday morning cartoons. Post Transformers, Gi Joe and He-man overkill
@@jamestwerdin1189the ninja turtles era pretty much
That commercial break thing with the cowboy and that sound effect is my whole childhood. I used to sing along and tried doing the sound effect. Thank you for always adding them to the videos.
The theme song for Cro was stuck in a deep part of my memory, holy cow thanks for helping me remember where this was from!
A couple of notes on Family Dog. First, Amazing Stories was an anthology series, similar to the Twilight Zone, and Family Dog was the only episode that was animated. Second, it was created by Brad Bird, who would go on to do The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille.
An underrated clasic.
I remember watching it back in the day. I probably didn't fully understand it then, but now that I look back on it I feel sorry for the dog because his human family are too wrapped up in themselves to pay attention to him!
And I don't think any of the people that worked on the Amazing Stories Family Dog were involved with the TV series, which was rushed into production after The Simpsons became popular and all the other networks wanted prime time cartoons of their own. The titles of all these cartoons are listed on tombstones in one of The Simpsons Halloween Specials, after these shows all flopped and were cancelled: Family Dog, Capitol Critters, and Fish Police.
The only show I didn't watch at the time, and frankly had never heard of, was the new Speed Racer. This was an awesome nostalgic trip!
I remember watching Droopy, Master Detective as it was a spinoff from Tom and Jerry Kids and I do this cartoon very much, I just only wished the whole Series is finally on complete DVD so I can enjoy watching the episodes again.
The home version of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs for the Sega CD is actually an FMV game. The Capcom arcade version unfortunately never came home
93 was the first year I can recall memories, I was born in 90 so I can remember almost all these cartoons and the toys they produced. It's wild to think this was 31 years ago now
Time flies
Being a UK resident born in 1987, the ONLY TWO pieces of Speed Racer media I have so far gotten to have a proper look at are this Fred Wolf series and the 2008 live action movie!
Bonkers was definitely one I watched alot of when I was little.
Sonic and Bonkers was the best
Double dragon was underrated it deserved more seasons
Double Dragon was set in Metro City, I wonder if it was in the same universe as Inspector Gadget. 🤔
@@MrDman21might be. Both shows were made by DiC
This episode has some bangers.
I could have sworn Bonkers had a season two. I loved seeing that after school. I remember a legit season finale.
Technically it did have 2 seasons as the miranda episodes were actually produced first but after those few episodes failed in test markets they made the much better received lucky episodes but come time to air the show proper they just aired the lucky episodes first and used the miranda episodes as filler to reach the 65 episode threshold since the show wasn't popular enough to warrant producing more episodes. So basically the show is like those scooby doo syndication series that package multiple series together as the lucky and miranda episodes are technically two different runs and would certainly qualify as multiple seasons if it wasn't a made for syndication deal.
A quick flash from the British Dennis the Menace strip that somehow existed at the same time as the American one.
I want to know who the horrible parents were who lobbied to get rid of Saturday Morning cartoons. Marketing? No political shows wanted weekends. Cartoons taught manners and lessons. But then again, those kids had these. So did it matter?
Peggy Charren was one of them. Those parents' groups usually exaggerated how many members they had.
Cro only had one season?! Man they were great at making it seem like there was more.
Crazy 😂 I’ve been thinking about Cro all week long for some strange reason & now I see this 😮 Awesome 👍
That IS crazy!! 😂
The 'Cro' theme song goes hard, man. Me and my best friend in middle school would always spontaneously sing it out loud (same with the Captain Planet ending theme) because it always got stuck in our heads, and I still remember it to this day.
Sonic double dragon were shows I watched every morning before school and now my kids love them too. Tells ya they were still good casual shows
I still end up laughing at some of Sonic jokes
That's weird because Bonkers had alot of episodes.
Yeah and didn't he change partners. He had a female cop for a while and then a male detective for a while.
In 93 I was 13. I remember almost everyone of these shows except for Cro and Stone Protectors. Only reason I watched Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was cause of the comic. Some of these I had forgotten about because I didnt watch them. But I remember seeing the commercials and I remember turning on The all-new Dennis the Menace show one morning and did not like it. I had always loved the old Dennis I grew up on that version and something just seemed off with the new one. Didnt watch the Sonic show but I remember it being on and when you said the name "Family Dog" at first I didnt remember it then you showed the dog and instantly cause I always thought as a kid how weird it was that the dogs nose doesnt touch his face it hovers just above the end of his nose. Also, the part with the mean brother yelling "mad dog mad dog" I instantly had a rush of memories. Wow, such great shows.....sometimes but thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I love the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. I have it on DVD. I also love Sonic the Hedgehog and have it on DVD. Sonic Underground is my favorite Sonic cartoon, I have that on DVD as well.
The Dennis cartoon shown in the vid is the English character of that name, who debuted March 17th 1951 - just five days after his more well-known blonde American counterpart. It's an incredible and bizarre coincidence and the confusion is understandable.
You are right about the comic strip, but the cartoon is based on the U.S. strip, which debuted at nearly the same time, neither artist having knowledge of the other.
I thought he deliberately used the wrong one as a joke.
No, he showed the American version (unless he also showed the British one for a single frame and I missed it or something).
Cro was criminally underrated. A fun show, with some fun educational stuff.
I remember Cro!! And bonkers too!
Double Dragon was definitely a part of my early teens
I loved Bonkers, it was one of my favorite shows as a kid
Awesome list! Took me down memory lane
70-80's cartoons were the best.
I think bonkers was the only one I consistently watched. I'm surprised Marisupilami didn't make this list. It only got 13 episodes.
havent seen any of Sonic underground on here yet, still have the songs on my chill playlist, and on the "Show to any kids of mine"
Sonic! Denise, yeah I guess. CROOOOOO! That theme song tho!
Happy you're back
Thank you, me too 😆
I loved Bonkers. I honestly thought he would’ve worked better in that live action meta Chip n Dale movie better than Chip and Dale themselves.
Yes definitely
That's the only one I remember actually watching as a kid that's on the list
I was a huge fan of anything and everything Sonic the Hedgehog while growing up in the 90s. I fondly remember watching both animated series and playing with a little sonic toy I got from McDonalds constantly
Same here
Bonkers was amazing! Way underrated! Sure not every episode was good but it had many moments of success and it always made me laugh and smile. It is definitely one of my favorite Disney cartoons of the 90s. Just found your channel. I’m a new follower and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
Awesome thank you
Great video. Ive been lucky to watch all these when I was a kid. Great shows.
I watched almost every one of these cartoons back when I was 13.
I remember most of these. Double Dragon and Bonkers were both great. Family Dog I'd never heard of, and I'm glad, that whole premise upsets me
yeah family dog was in bad taste
I thought Bonkers was really funny
When they produced _Bonkers_ Miranda actually predates Lucky. For some reason though Disney decided to run the Lucky episodes first. An episode was made transitioning from Lucky to Miranda but it was banned for reasons I don't recall now (and looking it up would be cheating).
God, i miss Phil Hartman. Such a talent
Beautiful you mentioned GOD ❤️ AMEN ❤️
Adventures of Sonic and Droopy. Those I remember, the former most of all.
Dude, I love these videos. Thank you 🙏🏻
I'm glad you like them! Thanks
I KNEW IT!!! I knew there were two sonic shows. I thought this was like a Mandela effect or something.😂😂 I thought I was going nuts. 😂
I knew most of these
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
Speed Racer
All New Dennis the Menace
Double Dragon
Stone Protectors
Bonkers
I learned about Cadillacs and Dinosaurs years later.
Sad i missed it.
I used watch to The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog. I was 8 years old in 1993 and I loved Sonic.
Man, the 1997 Speed Racer anime remake runs laps around the 1993 westernized one
Bonkers is one of my all time favorite cartoons
I had the Family Dog SNES game. Loved it!
That's so weird, "Bonkers" just flashed in my mind yesterday because I named my new pup "Yonkers," and it just reminded me of that show for some reason.
Then I see this video the next day. 😂 I didn't realize it only had 1 season, I used to love it. Same with Sonic.
I remember just about all of these. And I remember I had a comic book that included a Cro story which really cemented the show in my memories. I grew up to be an engineer, and some of those lessons from Cro really stuck with me, like I remember Cro was where I first learned that tripods and triangular supports greatly increase structural stability, from a story about two mammoths trying to build increasingly tall towers. I agree that the network was absolutely wrong about Cro, I bet I'm not the only engineer who learned something valuable from that show as a kid.
That's awesome! Thanks so much for watching!
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was a damn good show and the animation style was pretty clean.
Bonkers was my Favorite Cartoon
I used to love Dennis the menace. I never realized it was only one season I feel like I watched it for years
Fun fact: The Bonkers and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs video games are pretty darn good.
Definitely
I actually had the whole line of the Rock trolls toys from Stone Protectors when I was a kid! How have I forgotten about this show!
My little brother and I used to play the Double Dragon NES game all the time when we kids in the 80s but I don’t remember there being a cartoon. If we knew, we would have definitely watched. We did watch Captain N the Game Master though. I even recorded it so we could watch it over and over. I really miss those days.
I saw bits of Sonic & Cadillac! I watched Dennis & Droopy!!!
Thank you for the video. Love the nostalgic feeling I’m getting watching this✌🏽
Glad you enjoyed it!
I used to watch like 4-5 of these every Saturday morning
One of the few good things about the Speed Racer cartoon is that it helped generate interest in the classic version. MTV ended up licensing the series and airing it at 1am on Friday night IIRC.
The 1986 Dennis The Menace is better than the 1993 one.😀👍
Well that goes without saying. Also why did they have the screen shot of the UK Dennis comic at the start?
Bonkers was great Disney series
absolutely
i remember rushing home to catch animaniacs every day, but if bonkers was on it meant i got home too quickly and id have to suffer whatever was left of the episode 😂
😆
I loved the new adventures of Speed Racer! I didn't know it was that poorly received. 😢😢😢 I still remember the theme song ❤
4:14 oh so that's what the 2 sonic reference from Scott Pilgrim takes off was talking about.
The Family Dog!!!! 🥰 White hot ball of canine terror. 😂
Haha the Robot Chicken Stone Protectors sketch is a classic!
And nothing about that short-lived, BattleTech, animated show that wanted to be like Exosquad but failed. I know the BattleTech tabletop game was around since the 80s but this cartoon was because the producers wanted to re-create the same success Exosquad. Both came out in the 90s but Exosquad had two seasons and BattleTech got only one season.
BattleTech and Exosquad were also locked in a legal battle with one another, which ended up with Playmates winning. Harmony Gold and Playmates countersued resulting in FASA no longer taking designs from foreign properties and repurposing them as BattleTech mechs. Long story short, FASA, the creator of BattleTech, sued Playmates for how similar some of the Exosquad mechs were to their Battletech mechs; FASA previously had Robert Allen pitch BattleTech toy ideals to several companies including Playmates. After Playmates won the lawsuit, they and Harmony Gold, countersued BattleTech for the Macross designs; Playmates license the Robotech mechs from Harmony Gold for a Robotech crossover wave.
The court sided with Playmates. However, IIRC, FASA was in turn in a cou
@@FallenGemini You're mostly right, except for one part Playmates never owed Exosquad. The creators of Exosquad worked for Universal Animated Studios, I know this because I watched the ending credits with Jeff Siegel as the creator of Exosquad who at the time was the head of Universal Animated Studios. Because of this Universal owes Exosquad, and when Universal stopped caring about Exosquad and moved the timeslot into a more difficult time slot they fired Jeff Siegel and told Playmates with their temporary license about to run out to do whatever they wanted. SO, Playmates made the Exosquad/Robotech cross over an Exosquad Sega Genesis video game with two PC apps a coloring program, and a Q and A on Exosquad alongside side of bazaar board game. And now Playmate's license has long since run out and Universal renewed their ownership of Exosquad in 2015, Exosquad is now just a placeholder on Peacock.
I loved the adventures of sonic the hedgehog
