I have to give it to the director of this movie even while this has nothing to do with the zombies at this particular scene, it really does get to you in a claustrophobic way... guy knew how to generate scares.

Also I've always thought that the Red Queen applied extra pressure to the doors to trap her. Seems like that what they were hinting by showing the Queen watching her and then later the doors tightening on her and that's when shit went down. Literally.
Think about it though, for just a minute. You’re hired by a multinational, pharmaceutical corporation that, presumably, makes billions on the stock market. You’re place of employment? An underground facility called “the hive” in a sleepy mountain town, in the middle of nowhere, called Raccoon City. There are many, many security protocols to enter the facility, and once in, they pipe in images of cityscapes and natural light to appease your ‘above dwelling’ minds to working underground....Does that not make alarm bells ring? Why are you so contained? Why can’t you reach a necessary department without going across miles of underground tunnelling to reach it? Why is my operating system so unique and advanced as to know when I go for a coffee without chastising me? And why does this Red Queen have the voice of a child...it’s creepy. They knew what they were getting in to, and if they didn’t....well they deserved their fate.
I never had fear of elevators but I'd always pray it would act up when I'm inside, bcuz that poor woman got her head knocked clean off and everybody in the elevator died and the people in the building suffocated turning into zombies
The Red Queen systematically killed the Umbrella Corporation employees in the Hive in a tactical fashion separately. The Red Queen drowned the scientists in the laboratory rooms with water from the sprinkler system, gassed the Umbrella scientists and virologists inside the offices with Halon gas, sabotaged the elevators to free fall after the Red Queen disabled the cable car breaking system, killing the employees inside on impact of the fall, and presumably the Red Queen gassed the employees in the hallways between the labs and offices with Halon gas, as well as Clarence the security guard and the Doberman pinscher dogs in the cages of the security room. Too bad it didn't prevent them from reanimating as zombies.
I had this movie ona really shitty VHS bootleg back when it first came out as a child. I threw it on and right after seeing this scene I instantly ejected that shit out of my tv and threw it as far as I could. Watched it again years down the line and realized it wasn't as bad as I thought.
Honestly, if I see people dying on the floor outside, i am not getting out. more likely I will break open the top where the air vent are, and climb up the ladder. They all might be able to avoid death since i douth theres camera there?
