Funny thing out of the whole movie. It wasn’t the zombies or monsters that scared me it was the laser room that scared me the most. The laser room.

The most disappointing death of the movie was the team leader. He cared for his team and was leading from the front by entering the room first, he had sound judgement and even under stress, watching his team get injured and killed kept it together. Even when he was the last one alive in the room he didn’t give up, he stayed focused on the threat and did his best to stay alive, trusting his teammates outside to get him out. All the more frustrating when the weapon system shuts down seconds after he dies.
I agree. He was the best character.

Felt so bad at the end for the guy trying to deactivate it. They’re all screaming at him and acting as if he should have known what to do from the beginning. His lip quivering is fantastic acting. He must have felt like their deaths were all his fault.

As someone who knows about computers, this probably wouldn't have happened in the first place, mostly because a real team, if put in this position, would already have a few backup plans in the case of this event, so yes it was just for the movie, but if I were the hacker man there yea I would feel like it's all my fault

As a kid it always kinda burned my ass the last dude put so much effort into surviving only to get completely fucked over at the end in a near impossible situation.
For those of you people who have played the new version of Separate Ways in RE4 Remake, I think we all know why we decided to revisit this iconic scene again due the homage it did of the game to this unforgettable moment 😁👍
I don't know why the blue laser specifically is just so unsettling for me. It's maybe due to Ada or the last due just Stat there standing like they were fine but slowly start to reveal... they were already dead.

Asides from the theory that the system was just being sadistic and wanted to give them false hope by not using the net shape the first time, I also speculate that using one line of laser was the most energy-efficient for the system. When it failed to terminate the last dude I think the system just went "screw it" and made the much more energy-costing net shape to finally dispose of the guy.
Yeah, as a dev i can understand it. If one light operation fix 90% of the issue, you do that, then you check, and only if it didn't work it trigger bih artillery
It could move up-down fast as it was approaching them and that would finish them with the first blast. It had the ability to move up-down.
I think it would have been cool if that were the case for the rest of the lights to flicker or possibly even shut off when it went into the net.
@@john206gt you did not see the same scene?? on second try the light moved pretty fast (even caught someone in mid air) but then the leader who was further away from the lights was even faster and hold his entire body at the top, on a position that 1 laser blade can't reach

I like this scene, because it shows, that they tried to proceed with caution (not everyone entering at once, slowly moving forward, keeping communication going). And by the time more and more lasers come down on them you get to think that at least one might do it, until the inevitable death happens. (I personally don't like that so many people died in that one scene)

This scene alone was so awesome that the laser room was not only referenced in RE4, but pretty much directly ported into the remake's Separate Ways DLC, down to one of the death scenes and all.
I like how they made it look closer to how it looks in the movie
The RE movies by Paul Anderson may be terrible but you can't deny that this scene will always be memorable. The music, the sheer panic and pressure in everyone, it's so well directed.
I don't think they ever set out to make good movies with these. I think the intent from the outset were some mindless popcorn flicks that people would secretly enjoy at home when they came on the cheap movie channels for years to come. In the same vein as Mortal Kombat, or Starship Troopers.

Although I think the first RE movie and MK were actually fine. It's the subsequent sequels that were godawful.
This scene does kind of capture what it was like to play RE:DC in the late 90's at a sleepover with your friends. The kind of team dynamic with your controller player acting tough to puff himself up, and working collaboratively through a puzzle in an environment where everything felt like a menacing trap. And dying.
The acting is bad. But the clever way of killing them was cool. Smart way to defend an area.

I love how the team leader was in the zone was thinking how he was gonna juke the shit out of the laser and the laser just shut down all his hopes and dreams by just expanding and how the team leader just automatically pissed and knew he was dead so he just accepted it

Say what you want about that movie due of lacking some of the original RE characters but that Laser scene is both iconic and terrifying.
Also, this brought that scene to RE4 and RE4 Remake: Separate Ways.
Resident evil 4 remake brings this back as an easter egg for the Separate ways campaign as the final laser pattern and color(all lasers are red but the last one is blue in color) in the laser room.
The most badass defence system. The movie also was the best in the entire series.

Well, we have to give credit to Paul W. S. Anderson, because if it wasn't for him, the laser section would have never been included in Resident Evil 4

In situations like these there are lottle times to think critically though. Your mind will be automatically in panic mode for the most parts. Only a VERY FEW SOLDIERS (and individuals ) on Earth would know what to do instantly without panic in these kind of situations. The team leader almost had it though. With a little more time, he would have figured out that standing by the exist door is key!

Whoever came up with this scene was a genius. Even though the dialogue almost all the way through is kinda cheesy and annoying, the silence at the end really hammers home how fucked up the whole situation really is.
never thought an ai could be sadistic...but the red queen clearly was sadistic here...she could've started with this 3:11 but she preferred to kill them off one by one, to enjoy their fear and give them a false sense of hope that they could dodge the lasers.
I always thought she was just programmed to do the lasers in a specific order.
Its an AI. It will perform the defense in the most efficient way. Lasers require power. AI just tried to kill with the least amount of power. 1. Normal laser. 2. Moving laser. 3. should be seen as compliment to the surviving guy. The AI needed the full laser power which wasnt expected at start by the AI. Just think like a robot.

Not only brain activity, but also for example temperature, movement, muscle movement, density, recognition of objects etc. You should see it like this: An advanced AI would contantly analyse the whole situation just like 1.000 scientiests would do...just like the AI is doing in 1 second what these 1000 scientiest would take months for. You cant hide anything from such an AI, if it would be real.

Just like the laser simply moved upwards to cut that guy's chest when he tried to jump, it could had also moved down than up again to cut her neck...
But the real explanation is incorrect editing/directing.
like most women, she can t keep her head still. she has to act sexy and flick her neck and make sexy, not realizing that the laser is not a male and is not going to give a shit how hot SHE thinks she is. end result - angular cut.
I actually really like this movie despite it not being in sync with the game lore.
the scariest part here is about one of the people having to lose their fingers being cut off by a laser and another one whose losing head

A: Most epic scene of this movie. In those days, I borrowed this movie from a rental shop and returned it after watching. Years later this was the only scene that i could remember whenever i tried to remember about the movie.
B: Now watching it again (as a software developer), i really feel for the guy at computers. Both Milla and the other dude keep yelling at him to make the laser stop and he was just telling them that he IS TRYING. 😀 I think if they let him do his stuff in a calm way, he might have disabled the laser in time.
Lesson Learned : Never yell at a developer or hacker. If he says he will do it, he will. Shouting or yelling will only make it slower. 🙂

There is a bit of concrete wall on each side, so if they just would have hugged either door, they would have been fine.

i noticed that when i first saw this movie as a little kid. 1:12 i thought that black dude's shoe must be over 12 inches, unless there was some 300 pound lardass, an average build person would totally be safe at each end of that laser hallway

This scene terrifies me as a kid and still does, it was so brutal the worst part was last guy that got sliced was the best of the special ops team.

That part where the Lazer just touched his 👃 nose first and chest I would have felt pain fast even though I froze up , there no way he doesn't feel pain from his nose 👃 to his chest first Lazer strike , he would be jumping around avoiding Lazer beams backwards behind him. I know because in my science class I got Lazer beam accident but it felt like a servals electric power fence in the rain storm touching the cattle electric power fence . I forgotten about turning off the power to the electric in both science class and farming equipment powers . My denim jean jacket was sliced clean in my science class that I was just barely wearing around my waist I was so lucky to survive that science class but not so lucky in the rainstorms touching the electric power fence I was blown back 5 feet or jolted back , only thing that I remember was seeing a lightning ⚡ flashing and my leather gloves hands was sparkling and wet . Dude, this was the only movie on the Anderson franchise which was more a little bit more "realistic" and badass.
The background music, the tension, the actors faces and desperation. Uff

They are all professionals, they know the whole building is high security, bugged and booby trapped with weapons out to exterminate any intruders.
And yet they walk into the hallway casually without any precautions like scanning it or sending in a robot first ?

I used to have this on VHS when I was a kid,I also have it on DVD now.
But I want to get the blu ray version, this one and apocalypse are the best ones out of the entire RE Franchise.
Everbody saying he would survive if he took a couple steps back are forgetting that he was preparing to dodge the single laser incoming like the last one. Only at the last second did the laser split into a grid and it was too late for him to adjust.
