    Removal of the crank bolt made easy! Mechanic Life Hack, removing or loosening a stuck seized or thread used with thread loving sealant.
    Confirmed from several sources that the 22mm bolt retaining the Harmonic Balancer has a Torque setting of 330nm/243ft/lbs.
    As the car is Auto you cannot simply place in gear - and hang off a breaker bar with 2m of pipe - you either have to lock the harmonic balancer using a tool (which i made to reinstall), remove the starter motor and lock the ring gear or use the drive belt as i have used here. the RE INSTALLATION PROCESS is in the following link:

    No shit! I've been a mechanic for 14 years and never even seen this technique. I found this video while also fighting with a JZ crank bolt. It was that tight that I was sure this would tear the front off the water pump. But sure enough it worked!

    Thank ya Jeebas I found you! Tried stuff and bent stuff. I had most of the front components already removed to begin taking off the front cover. The video I watched on my truck, the guy easily used his impact gun and it came right off. Not for me. Long story short, used your method of tucking in the extra belt with only a few pulleys to work with, and then a 3"x3' section of steel fence pipe as a cheater bar with a breaker bar and socket. Only a few turns and it cracked and then spun out! I even tried using the cam lock tool to try holding everything. Almost worked but crank still tried to rotate. Hopefully I didn't mess up my harmonic balancer's current alignment like someone below pointed out. At least bolt is out and I'm continuing on! Much Love!!!

    I just broke the crankshaft pulley bolt loose on my 2008 Honda Fit! I used a "3:1 Torque Multiplier ($257 new on Amazon)" and the crank pulley holding tool ($13). I ran a bunch of 1/2" extensions out from the multiplier and rested them on a jack stand and used a breaker bar with a 4 ft. cheater pipe on it and it broke loose. Even though the torque multiplier is rated for 1100 ft/lbs, I still had to put out on that cheater pipe. My 450 ft/lb. electric impact with the special crankshaft 19mm socket from Honda was not enough to break it loose.

    U didn't have an impact wrench? I'm definitely going to try this

    • @ThatCarChannelOfficial
      @ThatCarChannelOfficial  6 лет назад +2

      yes, i had an impact wrench, an 18v Hitachi that does about 250nm.. i couldn't use anything bigger, as that would involve me taking out the A/C condensor/de-gassing the system, removing the front bar, intercooler etc etc.. i had the radiator out obviously but there is only so much room there up front :)
      the torque setting for the bolt is 330nm/243lb/ft - the 250nm rattle gun had little to no chance! the other thing - the car is auto, so simply leaving it in gear and hanging off it with 2M of pipe on a breaker bar was not an option (without removing the startermotor and fitting a ring-gear chock)
      to re-tighten the new setup i made a brace that held the pulley so that i was able to use a 3/4" torque wrench
      which is in this video here :) ruclips.net/video/HZDCTfq3_w0/видео.html

    Don't do this on a 1jz/2jz it separates the crank pulley from the base, I just did it FML lol or maybe my crank bolt is just on there too tight

      Maybe your pulley was absolutely knackered? Might need to look at the tool to hold the 2 bolts in place in the centre? I made one so I could re tension to 330nm.

    This torn my belt in half 😢. Cranking it, no luck. Snapped my extension clean at the head. F me. Bought a more powerful impact, going to try again tomorrow.
