I really like hearing your thought process in your work. I'm currently self-studying for the CPC and I could watch you all day! Also love the unintentional typing ASMR 😂❤
I actually like to see people do everyday things. I feel so weird saying that, but it's true😊. I like a mix, though. I wouldn't watch too many days in the life of medical coder. I like a little variety from my content creator. For example, I don't subscribe to people who do just hairstyles, I'll usually visit for a hairstyle inspiration and then off to something else. I get bored of the same thing for every video.
Just the aesthetics of every day life of a coder…. The typing…. Listening to work related things 😂the books and highlights in books! Desk set up I also like when content creators show grocery hauls coffee runs night time routines …. I guess it’s refreshing knowing that others have the same thing going on as me😂❤
I went to school for this many years ago when I was 19 I never finished, watching these videos brings back the process for me, I believe I am in a much better mental space and I would love to give it another try at 34 and from an actual accredited source lol. Thank you
I graduate and take my cpc exam in August! Videos like this inspire me and make me SUPER excited about my future! Videos like this give us a great perspective on what it's like being in this career~ ❤ Your videos are very informative 😊 and encouraging~~ Also, the keyboard sounds 100/10🎉
I was just assigned Ob/gyn at my job, I find these videos so helpful and motivating...one day I will get to that level of understanding this specialty.
Hello Shamyra, what I like most about this type of content is your work ethic. As a medical coder working from home, it helps me understand better as well as having my coding manuals at hand as well as other coding materials as well. You are a wonderful teacher, and I can tell you love what you do. I do not believe that this is not boring nor repetitive. I also have my bibles regarding my daily tasks. I only work denials within my practice. From OB Gyn, Neurosurgeries, E/Ms., etc. So, my hand is in all specialties. The only thing that I have difficulties with is OB Gynecology coding and understanding the concept. I really enjoy watching your concept. I am tuning in from Baltimore. So, I am down the road from you.
Yay! Finally! What I like the most about this type of content is that I feel your dedication and passion for your job and when I watched your video, I get motivated because I wanted to become a medical coder someday😊 keep it up!
Thank you for this video, I'm in school right now to become a medical biller/coder, still not sure what the difference between them is, but your videos help me see what it's like to do this job and it really helps, thank you.
I just graduated and got my associates for MBC. One thing I need more work on is adding modifiers . Sometimes it’s hard to remember what needs a modifier but I believe that doing Hands on work will really help .
I’m literally in school to do this exact thing!! I think I’m going to like it it’s not particularly easy but it’s not difficult either you just have to pay attention to all details and make sure your not making minor mistakes other than that it’s all good I enjoy it so much!! ❤ well I didn’t know it was specific levels I thought we coded everything lol but I’m learning and that’s all that matters
I love that you show us what a coder actually does! I graduated with an online college certificate degree in medical coding. Being that it was online I had no clue of what a coder’s day to day worklife involves! My questions were…”do we choose the codes from procedure description ourselves? Are we just verifying what dr chose? Do we call or send email to physicians when we have a question? If so, what is required turn around time on that? etc. Clueless! I did obtain my CPC-A a couple of months ago and finally got a possible job thru a recruiter with a mass hiring for risk adjustment coder…do you have any thoughts on that position? Thanks so much
Just got approval to begin training and certification with workforce however trying decide to do medical coding billing or EKG tech . Have a toddler so I’m leaning toward billing coding just trying get some additional insight . Thanks for videos
Best video I’ve seen so far I’m so sick of people not getting to the point. I’m in a cutthroat decision either choosing: Medical Assistant OR Medical billing and coding
Hi Shamyra, I just want to say great video! Thank you for sharing this video with us, I appreciate you! The videos that you have shared have been very helpful with great info and I just want to say don’t give up. Maybe just go back to the drawing board and take a different approach, You are here to educate others and help others who are going to sit for their cpc exam or who would like to do this OBGYN specialty. Saying this I do understand that if it does not make you happy find what does. Have a Great Day.
Hi, is your job fully remote? The meetings are all online? I’ve watched quite a few coding videos I missed the 20 per hour quota. I’m glad you mentioned it again for those of us who didn’t catch it & the new people. ❤
Hi Shamyra, how do you specialized in a specialty? If you can probably make a video about that one day explaining or if you don’t mind answering. I am a medical coding student and I will be done by Spring of 2024 I am doing a two year (4 semesters) program through my local college and I am loving this career path, I am still a CNA in which I work in the ED of my local hospital 😊but I am doing a change to my career!
I am a new coder working in office. I only complete 5 patient surgeries/consults charts a day because I have to answer patient incoming calls. I pray I get faster.
How do you get started as in to work as a medical billing and coding worker from home while you're studying for it without having to need a one or 3 to 5 year experience as a demand I mean, everybody has to start somewhere from the beginning that everybody starts with experience You get your experience as you're working and you're learning!! what would you recommend where to start from working from home?
Right I was wondering the same . I just graduated and got my associates for MBC but it’s like who is going to let you work as a coder with no experience . So I just got a job as a medical data entry specialist in the coding department . I’m get my hands on that and they said down the like they will have coding positions available so I think this will be my way in lol
You cannot commit by memory. Too many codes! What you do remember is where they are. For example you will remember where the codes are for cancer. You will remember where the codes are for office visits. There are some that are common that you use over and over that will stick in your brain. You asked this question months ago. You are probably well on your way to becoming a coder and already know! Good luck with your career.
What did you go to school for to be able to do this from home? I am really interested in this field as I am disabled and wanting to work from home in the medical field.
Hey girl, I’m about to start my associates in MBC, i wanted to ask you this: How did you decide what specialty (like ob/gyn or cardiovascular as an example), you wanted to pursue for coding? If you made a video explaining so, I’ll look at some of your videos to find out. Thank you for making these videos ❤️
Thank you so much, first video I have watched and appreciate the detail. How long have you been doing it? Trying to decide if this is a remote career path I would like to pursue. You were helpful!
Thank you for this video. It helps a lot. I have a question though. I am planning on taking course at college. One offers online with 80 hrs or 6 months to complete so I can qualify for the cpc exam. And the other college is offering 2 full semester. Which one would you suggest?
Hi, I am currently studying to become a coder. I just can’t wrap my brain around having to use physical books for this career when there is so much software technology available. Could you explain what is actually used in the real world coding?
Hi there, What's your opinion in the idea that this profession is dying slowly because of IA, would you recommend to other people to go and get certified and look to work in this field, thanks
I am super interested in this field. How did you wind up in the obgyn specifically? Was it something you just applied for or was it something you liked to do?
Hey! I would watch procedures being performed on RUclips such as hysterectomies, cystectomies, sterilizations/salpingectomies, oophorectomies, myomectomies, etc. Whatever procedures you see in the female genital system section that have 90 day global periods - I watch to see how it’s done, so when reading an op note it all makes sense. Also, if you have the funds I’d get a OB/GYN a coding companion book. These have the full description of all OB/GYN procedures (unfortunately this book can’t be used on exam).
Hi Shamyra, with 20 charts due per hour, how long are the majority of the charts? Page count. My charts range from 2 pages to 5000 pages. I can't imagine having to code 20 CPH
It really all depends on the person tbh. Some people HATE coding and would rather do something else in Administration (Medical) within the field. And others (like me) LOVE coding and love reading and interpreting / finding out the answers. Just do your research and see what best fits your wants, needs etc.

Was wondering what is the best way to learn medical coding, online or at an actual campus?
You said you required to do 20 codes an hour, how long on average do you think it takes to code an entry?
Which specialties do you think would be the most difficult and the least difficult ? Thanks!
In my knowledge ipdrg is difficult
And radiology is least difficult
Do I have to type that fast 😮
How many cases do you have to complete per day?
