Most content creators literally just produce content because it’s main stream and they want to ride the wave for SEO purposes. My biggest gripe coming into this hobby was waiting 1-2 years for a brand new set of colored plastic or pay 4-600usd for older sets from scalpers on Mech market. This is great in terms of options and accessibility. First Akko with their stuff and now Drop, this is a great. It was nice to see popular GMK colorways come in pbt like PBT Taro and infinikey Cafe etc. But for DCX to be competitive and popular they need to work with designers and bring in more colors while not treating designers like shit. That's the real challenge. Drop had a lot of past issues on this matter sadly with mito etc.
In stock is all we need. Like GMK is very good but waiting time is too long. And I wont argue with why the waiting time are too long, but most of the time its too long for me and in the end it makes me doesnt want the keycaps anymore.
Got a keyboard coming in a few months, I've acquired some pretty nice switches, I can sort stabilisers and tape pretty easy, the big issue for me is the ridiculous price of gmk keycaps. I get they're consistent in quality but how did it get this bad? When did people give them to power to charge that amount. I've basically decided I'm not bothering with gmk, I've found some sets I like and Drop actually has a buy one get one free at the moment with DCX profile, so it feels like I'd be dumb to not give that go
I bought some DCX WoB based on a lot of reviews that they are a legit GMK contender. After a number of weeks of hard use my observation is the become super smooth and hard. I know it is all about preference, but I prefer a worn in GMK set of key caps vs. a worn DCX set. They have a very different feel. GMK feel more comfortable and "soft". Maybe they absorb switch vibration better?
I don't like that there was no direct comparison to gmk keycaps despite mentioning them multiple times as their biggest competitor. I got a set of dcx wob and I have a set of gmk wob so here is my comparison: In terms of pros for dcx, I like that the spur marks are more hidden than gmk. On gmk there are spur marks on the back of each cap, so while they are not visible when using the keyboard and are quite small, dcx just does an objectively better job of hiding them by not having them on any of the 5 outside faces of the keycaps if you think spur marks look bad. In my opinion, the number row symbol legends look better (better font) than gmk. Particularly the ^ which I am not a fan of on gmk sets and the * symbol has a more modern font than the one gmk uses which looks better in my opinion. Finally the dcx keycaps look better from the bottom (stem facing up) than the weird random pattern gmk's double shot process leaves on the bottom of each key but this is very minor since you never see the bottom/inside of keycaps normally. There are some neutral differences which I can't decide if they are good or bad. The dcx keycaps are smoother except for the spacebar which is more like gmk, it is almost like the smoother keys have been like bead blasted. You can feel the legends on dcx very slightly they are a different height from the rest of the keycaps unlike gmk where you cannot feel the legends as they are completely flush with the rest of the keycap. Finally the dcx keycaps are a bit more scooped than gmk and hug your finger more. It feels a little bit different from gmk but I don't know if this is necessarily better. For the cons the legends on the modifiers is too thin. Gmk modifiers are significantly bolder and I think most people agree this looks a lot better considering how bold the alphas on both sets are (the alphas look about the same on gmk and dcx), the dcx modifiers just look disproportionate and out of place in my opinion. Secondly since the profile is not cherry and is just slightly different, most artisan keycaps which are usually cherry profile are not going to look good with this but this point only applies to the people that care about that. Finally the elephant in the room is that the legends are very inconsistent compared to gmk. Especially on the modifiers, the "e"s in delete are not on the same level as the other letters, the super is bolder than the other bottom row modifiers the s in backspace is thinner than the other letters there is too much space between the ft in shift it just goes on and on there are a lot of these small inconsistencies while gmk has almost no inconsistentcy at all, it is quite remarkably near perfect. The inconsistencies are small on dcx, you might not notice them on a cursory glance and they are certainly a lot less than many other budget sets but once you see them it is something you can't unsee. This is a problem because it means that novelty keycaps that have images or designs on them may not be possible for dcx due to the inaccuracy or may looks bad and misshapen so this may be really limiting to the kind of themed sets that designers can make unlike on gmk which has a huge variety of intricately designed novelty keycaps and themed sets. The worst case scenario is drop is only able to do different color combos and not any novelty keycaps that are unique to each set which is what it looks like is happening but this could change. In conclusion, dcx keycaps are good and superior to most non gmk keycaps. I think most people would be happy with them, they beat gmk keycaps in some minor aspects but overall gmk is still better when money is no object IMO. My reasoning is that the legend consistency of gmk is unmatched and that is the most important aspect of gmk keycaps because otherwise you could just buy blank abs keycaps for $25. You have to decide if they are worth the $30+ savings and possible wait time compared to gmk though depending on your individual situation.
With how these came about and how they tried to screw over and piggy back off of matt3o and stuff I can’t in any good conscious buy or recommend supporting these caps.
For me personally, I'm not very impressed with GMK. I get that some people love the exclusivity of having a keycap set that has a unique colourway and is limited to a certain number of units. But for me, the packaging is subpar. The new packaging is just an eggcrate style tray that is easily cracked in shipping. When one is paying nearly $200 and up, one would expect a better way of packaging keycaps, instead of arriving as a jumbled mess - and looking like the Samsonite gorilla took some swings with the package.
I dont think people buy GMK for exlusivity anymore bec GMK GBs have been unlimited for a pretty long time now. And yes the packaging is "bad" but it is sustainable and not just more plastic that will go to waste.
Weird that you spent the first part of the video comparing charts of DCX to GMK cherry profile, then proceeded to NOT physically compare them to GMK or other ABS cherry manufacturing competitors (keykobo or pbtfans) but to other irrevant random keycap sets. 😂

rip mt3 o7 lol
I was hoping to see a comparison between DCX and GMK to justify the bold statement in video's title and thumbnail, but nah haha (:
Yeah that’s so strange that they decided to compare the Keycaps with other profiles except the main competitor that gmk uses.

whats the black 75% keyboard you put the thumbnail? looks really nice
could you recommend keycaps that shine through the letters? reviewers rarely talk about this. I don't like keycaps that fully block the backlit
Pleaseee i want to see my edit backlit color and not just be blocked
Maybe Tai Hao keycaps?
agreed with Bernards, also you can try razer phantom keycaps. loved them especially if your using rgb
Akko just announced that they will be making backlit pbt keycaps
Can't wait for an Akko Acr Pro 68/75 review!!
Nice video thanks for all the reviews
btw do they have interference on north facing boards since dcx is a new profile
Do you have any actual GMK key caps to compare these to?
How do these compare to cheap doubleshot keycaps you can find on Amazon for like 50 dollars?
Imagine calling the legends "printing" on doubleshot caps 😩

no, because gmk also charges shipping

Definetly one of the best in-stock options. I’m personally fine with buying gmk but the issue is availibility and waiting time.
honestly I feel gmk is slightly worse than Drop in the terms of ledgends
I would buy tons of it, if they would use DinA4 as font type. Melgeek does that on his keycaps and it just looks more elegant and premium.
They sound a bit deeper than gmk. Not sure if I like it
