Been using DCX for a minute as our house testing cap for compatible boards, they kinda gud for the money. Actually better overall quality than either of the GMK sets I'd gotten in recently.
Something to note about the DCX keycaps, Keybored tested them, and they do suffer from north-facing interference. So if you're on a board that's north-facing, be sure your switches are long pole, or moulded in a way that they won't interfere, same as if you were dealing with Cherry profile.
Dunno who will see this but I've run into long-term issue with my WoB DCX set. I loved the sound and feel, and I also think out of all the ABS doubleshot sets I have, they shine the best. This is due to them having a softer, smoother feel with a slight glossy sheen to them. I was happy and working towards a hand-shined look that I wanted to spend a few years working towards. Sadly, I've noticed that the white plastic in my WoB set has started to change color on the inside of the cap (not on top). It looks like a marbly brown/white. Something is happening to the plastic. A reaction to skin oil over time? Faulty plastic? No clue. What ended up happening though was this visual weirdness seemed to match perfectly with the stems becoming brittle and loose. The only way I noticed this happening was having my small shift and F keys pop-off while using it. Placing them back on, I felt the stem give a little and saw that it cracked. Removing all the other caps led to me seeing the same issue with like 80% of them. Not sure if this is a small batch issue, degradation over time for the brand in general or what. Drop didn't want to see them more than a few pictures I provided and just gave me $5 store credit. Considering they are now under Corsair and I bought them when they weren't, okay, kinda understandable. I've had to move on. I want to get their new Sapphire set as a lower price option but have decided against it. I think for me it's now, Keykobo, GMK then JTK depending on what colors I want.
DCX will likely go thru a few QC revisions over the next 1-2 years so likely we'll see better legend consistency over time. Thoughts on DMK (if you've used a set) vs the current DCX or GMK in terms of legend quality/consistency? They all sound virtually the same due to being ABS and the same thickness with Cherry profile, so if sound is all anyone is after I'd say DCX is the best value. Cheers!
Yeah I've been buying gmk keycaps lately they're really expensive from drop but I did buy the cyber dcx keycaps for a cyberpunk theme keyboard great video gave a like

I think you're spot on about references. If I'm not directly comparing I usually don't notice small stuff. Yes, I'll see the spaces between letters but I've seen issues on GMK sets as well. My GMK Oblivion has thinning on certain legends and on certain days, it drives me nuts. Other days I completely forget about it.
They are thinner than gmk, they are not double shot all the way to the edge of the keycaps. They shine as fast as gmk. Their legends is awful specially on mods. Sound is amazing tho and have a very large color variety. I have 6 sets but won't buy any more for the issues I raised.
How are these long term? I have very sweaty fingers, looking for new keycaps on my board to replace my old Akko PBT ASA WOB keycaps. They havvve shined pretty bad after a long while of use and I don't like their texture anymore, so Im looking to these drop ones because the Dusk DCX set looks really nice. Hopefully GMK will feel threatened to do even better.
gmk being sold for much cheaper these days makes it hard to even bother with any other makers. but gmk still has sus spacebars that can ruin the experience
DCX doesn't shine after 3 months of use for me. All my GMK sets do. I personally like shine as I believe that just like cars, keyboards work better when used and exercised regularly rather than just sitting there looking pretty.
The car analogy doesn't really apply to keycap surfaces though. It makes sense for moving parts like your switches or stabs. But if it's the keycap surface, it just makes it look bad, especially since you will rarely use all of your keys... meaning the most commonly used keys like the alphas and some mods will have a more obvious shine compared to other keys that are very seldom used (ie. caps lock, tilde, etc.)
@@statixfear I see your point but when looking at the board as a whole, shine to me indicates use. But I don't disagree with you and I found that my DCX set doesn't shine despite being ABS.
@@das-nyc Relatively speaking, I don't mind shine on keycaps as much. It's more of "even" shine that I'm more concerned about. @@AndyVNguyen Drop dcx wob is $100, gmk wob is $110. If a $10 difference on $100 keycaps is making a difference in your life, don't buy $100 keycaps. Maybe dcx would make sense if some of the very expensive gmk gb sets came to dcx, but novelty kits make many of those sets and I think drop themselves know their double shot process is weak because none of their sets offer novelty kits where these slight issues with legending would make images look bad.
