For Lalo, I chose A, D and F. "A" sounds the most radio ready, "D" has a nice fullness to it and "F" has a nice bright sound to it. For Vin, I chose A, B and F. "A" has that radio ready sound, "B" has a round vintage hip hop kind of tone and "F" sounds bright and clear. If I had to choose one mic amongst them all, it would be "A." Awesome job by both artists. Also, big thanks to Sanjay C for doing this serious. It was very interesting.
I love how you compared the mic to two different rappers (Lalo and Vin) with different styles! You could really hear a difference cause of their unique tones, cadence and rhythm 🎵
I was rooting for Neumann TLM-103 but in this video really loved the sound of Manley Reference microphone. I guess it depends on texture of vocals and genre too.
I chose 2 and both were Neumann! What an interesting result lol . I like how 2 different great rappers help your review. And it's also amazing everyone can see how great my dude Vin is 😎

Amazing job to you, Lalo and Vin. Thanks for putting this together and sharing with us Sanjay C. My favorite was the Neumann U87, there is something about the sound that stands out from the others.
Nice review as always, Sanjay. Beautiful microphones. That AKG is dope. I look forward to a day you will do a comparison between WA 8000 and the Telefunken TF 29.
I think that AKG 414 is calling my name. My blind choice in all 3 videos included this mic. I really appreciate the natural sound is provides. Thank you for these videos.
Great series! That was a ton of work. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. Very helpful! I may have to grab a C414. I’ve been a fan on instruments, but I’d like to hear it on my voice. Thanks again!!
For Lalo, I liked C, E and F. With Vin, with lower range vocals, I didn't enjoy C as much, and was between E amd F (the most expensive one and the cheapest one 😳). Happy to see that my Rode NT1A holds its strength agaisnt the heavy lifters!

103 hands down. I'm biased. I've owned one for 25 years. I know and love that sound. Have had many songs on the radio tv with this mic. Paired with an la 610. Gold.
1:20 actually now I think because of that thing behind mics , they catch resonances , so for me they all either got weird frequency response or got something with dynamics , I can't exactly explain , but I can hear it 1:38 , now I hear like person is too close to the mic ( but it can be my preference of sound 😅) although with the beat all sound good 👍🏻

Great video I have been waiting on this one for a while. I would like to see how you mixed everything, because in my opinion they all sound good. I feel like the Manley was a little better than the rest, but for the price the Rode was a better bang for your buck. Thats why I would like to see how you mixed and EQ the vocals, because I feel like that might be why they all sounded good in the mix.
I thought the akg c414 sounded good giving it very nice clarity which helped with sending lyrical message. Bright but not sibilant like the tlm 103. Overall the u87 sounded familiar and pro. Midrange beauty and smoothes out the sibilance with a balance that we all know. I thought the rose sounded to bright and sibilant.
@@SanjayC The AKG 414 seemed to work best with the artist and the music, in this example. The U87 was cleanest sound, in my opinion, but that doesn't always work with Hip-Hop. I have had clients pick the NT1-A over the TLM-103, as well. It usually depends on the beat and style.
I chose the AKG mic as my top favorite for all 3 videos. Tied 2nd by the Neumann U87 and, surprisingly, the Rode NT1-A. I really hope I can get, or even just record, my songs on an AKG someday.
Both of the Neumann microphones were the best in my opinion, but I must say that the Rode did really well and I would for sure take it over Warm Audio one for this purpose.
Definitely that U87ai is truth and was the best. The U87ai is full professional sound and stays in mix the best. The manley was modern sound similar to the Sony c800g. The rode is great especially for the price. I wouldn't knock the rode cuz it's perfect to start with. The Warm doesn't sound good.
I've watched all of your comparison videos, and the TLM103 and U87 are consistently my favorite in all of your videos! I guess that Neumann sound is what I like and am very familiar with. I had the opportunity to use a vintage U87 from the 60's last month (a video coming soon on my channel), and the WA87 sounds like it is nowhere near the sound of a well maintained Vintage U87. Even factoring in different studio environment and different voices, it's not even close to the real thing from my experience.

I chose the Manley and the Neumann. Neumann had a warmer and grittier tone, something that reminds me of a lot of Kanye vocals. On the other hand, I find modern rap naturally wants a lot of high end in the vocals, and id rather bring down a clean high end then bring up a dirty high end.
considering the u87 is an industry standard, it’s easy to chose this as a favorite but if i had to chose a mic as a more realistic favorite it’d be the Warm Audio. Vins vocals on the AKG had to be the best on the several tests

Great video!! Would be interesting to compare the c414 to the xls version. I personally own the xls and sometimes I feel like it boosts the high frequencies a bit more than the original xls. That’s something I really like about that version. ( + the lower price😅)

Just curious if you plan to review the new United Twin 87… I’m intrigued by this mic. As always great video and demonstration.
Thanks a lot, Leroy. And yes, both artists brought the fire and uniqueness to this video. I haven't looked into the united Twin 87. I'll have to research that one
@@SanjayC I personally use the Audio Technica AT2020 and I do believe that metal vocals (especially screams and shouts) need a different mic selection anyway. I know that a lot of people use the Shure SM57 as a low-budget option. $1.000+ mics probably don't make sense in my opinion. But everything lower than that, I would say yes!
I have the rode and wa-14 (414 type mic) they are basically polar opposites for me. But judging from reviews like this one. I still have to do a lot more recording to get better technique. Yeah, its crazy what mics do with certain voices. I felt the WA 87 really missed some important tones in the rappers' voices. What did you think of the Manley?
The Manley sounded the best, lol (the 414 has a nice saturation on the top end too, and overall it`s a great mic ). The u87 warm audio and rode sounded the worst . I can`t even mention the tlm 103, it sounds like a toy .

Probably the smooth Tube sound. How long was it warmed up prior to doing the recordings. The longer it is on the better it will sound. Got to let the tube warm up.
lol The Mics I thought were the worst were the most expensive. I guess having more sensitivity at the lower end brings quality and character to the mix.

Cool and informative video! Such a subtle but crucial difference-- who knew two different styles could sound even better with certain mics?! Fancy seein' my bro Vin here! 😎✨ Will check out Lalo too!
I picked the last 2 for Lalo’s vocals and was hyped to see the last one was the Rode cuz I have that. I’m just trying to get the best sound quality for rap vocals. Would like to see Audio Interface comparison to see if that matters with different vocal styles
B and E are the best although C had that gritty sound that’s good in rap vocals F was great too. I thought D sounded muddy. All are rlly great mics nice video bro
thought A / F sounded best on artist 1, thought C / F sounded best on artist 2. crazy that with both vocal frequencies, the cheapest option rly held its weight!!
It was interesting to see how well the rode nt1a stood up against the u87 Of course u 87 sounded better but the difference is not as big as the difference in price Manley reference sounded a bit thin And in my opinion akg won this round....
Great tree part series 😁👌🏾 but it would have been cool to see these tests with less common mics like Lewitt, Slate, Austian Audio, JZ or Mojave for example, and maybe against the U87, just cuz we are so use to its sound.
My favorites on the first were D-E-F. On the second were A and F. I was completely surprised with the NT1a. Also, didn't like B in any of the recordings. Also, on the example you said the Rode sounds like a home recording and the Neumann a studio recording, i thought the exact opposite. I massively preferred the Rode. I'm really completely surprised by it! I didn't even like that NT1a that much as i thought it was to sibilant and kinda small but it works so well on these vocals.
I just previewed it and WOW!! I’m so hyped for all three of the guys! Lalo and Vin’s original songs are ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🔥😲😲😲😲😲 I hope you all love it! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💕💕 💋 @sanjayC soooo good! Talk to everyone in the live chat 💬

You did a amazing job at making this video thanks for helping us make better quality music
I've used a Rode NT1 since... I think since the 90s. What's the difference between that and the NT1-A?
Nitpicky but that's The Game at 10:06 and not Cassidy, lol. Great reviews though!
lol The Mics I thought were the worst were the most expensive. I guess having more sensitivity at the lower end brings quality and character to the mix.
Damn @Sanjay I'm so sad I have to wait but happy at the same time❤
Hey Oscar! Which one do you you'll pick?
@@SanjayC Wooo! I can hardly breath and my heart is pounding. This video and mic comparison was like being on a game show. Ok Alex Trebek... I meant to say Sanjay. My Favorite is the Neumann U 87 hands down.I was leaning towards the Neumann TLM 103 because I was considering getting it.Bruh...After hearing the AKG C414 tho🤭. I gotta pick door number 3...The AKG C414
Cool and informative video! Such a subtle but crucial difference-- who knew two different styles could sound even better with certain mics?! Fancy seein' my bro Vin here! 😎✨ Will check out Lalo too!
Well I appreciate you! Vin is definitely the man 🫶🏾
I picked the last 2 for Lalo’s vocals and was hyped to see the last one was the Rode cuz I have that.
Can't wait.....
Let's go! 2 minutest to premiere!
And for rap vocal, I love TLM 103.
I wish the Lauten Audio Eden and OC818 was in this comparison. 🔥 content Sanjay C.
Awesome content as usual 👏 Thanks
thanks for the review, still torn between the 103 and wa-87!
It was interesting to see how well the rode nt1a stood up against the u87
Of course u 87 sounded better but the difference is not as big as the difference in price
Manley reference sounded a bit thin
And in my opinion akg won this round....
Right..the differences are there, but most people won't be able to tell.
Manley sounds good on everything
Shocked by the Rode
Great tree part series 😁👌🏾 but it would have been cool to see these tests with less common mics like Lewitt, Slate, Austian Audio, JZ or Mojave for example, and maybe against the U87, just cuz we are so use to its sound.
I think I need to do another video with some less well known mics. Everyone is asking for the Lewitt
@@SanjayC Aston Spirit too!
With headphones on, the Neumanns seems to have a soul.
I just previewed it and WOW!! I’m so hyped for all three of the guys! Lalo and Vin’s original songs are ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🔥😲😲😲😲😲
I hope you all love it! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💕💕 💋 @sanjayC soooo good!
Talk to everyone in the live chat 💬
for these vocals, the manley, and the 414. the nt1-a, too, but needs to be brightened up a little bit.
Hey! Thanks so much for this video!
The Manley microphone is actually the one that caught my ear and i've been seeing alot of it lately...the comaprison of all these mics was actually impressive and very detailed thank you...lol...even thou i can't afford most of the microphones it was still educational owh and AKG C414 is really amazing especially for the price WOW 💯
This is a wonderful video I really learned a lot about the microphone most of all I found out it's sometimes about the song and not about one microphone that can do it all really enjoyed this video and also the female best mic shootout G-Man full circle recording studio
Not surprised to hear the 414 held its own, I’ve settled on its little brother the C214 and haven’t looked back.
Yeah, i really want to keep the C414
I really liked the sound of the TLM103 in this, would’ve been nice if the Sony C800G was in this roundup as that’s my favourite mic.
Thank you so much I am confused about the mic choice for so long but today I understand is not about the mic is about the massage
