Well he is (was) a card-carrying member of an association. So its not quite that simple (even if it is what they think). When you sign on to something (eg a job contract), you have more responsibility than just yourself or family....at least until you quit or otherwise get out of said agreement. If all of society was saying that one only has responsibility to oneself etc. it would be a much bigger mess than it already is. Its a cop out in many cases, for folks who believe they should be unaccountable .

Factor in the fact in putting himself in line to get that $200M (reportedly) is that he lost every single corporate sponsorship he had, which puts many times more money in his pocket than he ever won in his highest earning year on thd Tour. As an example, Forbes has reported that Tiger has generated $1.7 billion in total income with $130 million coming from tournament prize money he won. I would expect the ratio of prize money Phil has won compared to income from corporate sponsorships is similar, indicating that Phil listva ton of money to land the $200M he reportedly got paid for this tour.

One thing that LIV is actually good for is helping golfers who are playing on smaller tours and aren't making much in terms of money. Players who make the cut on the Sunshine tour, Japan tour and Australasia tour probably aren't making enough money to support a family, you have to be consistently playing good golf to make a living. In Japan for instance the winner I believe makes around 140,000 USD, a T4 is 34,000 USD. This is probably less on Sunshine and perhaps and similar to Australasia. Golfers Probably make like 1,000 if they barely make the cut.
You can whine as much as you want about where the money is from but I sense some hypocrisy from both the media and fans as there's already been significant Saudi and CCP China money circulating in major golf. @@mrspeeddemon727 so as my point previously made states, the Bosman reference is all about freedom of choice for the individual players. The PGA can continue to run its tours and pay what it wants but other options are open to players to make their choice……it’s that simple! Like you they just need to learn to deal with it and evolve also.

I don’t like that this interview has been censored, certain words of Phil’s have been removed. NOT GOOD! Whoever is doing that should be hung by their nads. I don’t like the bully tactics of the PGA tour. They’re afraid that LIV might catch on. So what? It will make every tour and the game better. Shame on Jay Monahan and his team.

What other sports league allows their members to play in competitive leagues, especially backed by questionable financial partners? If you hold a PGA tour card, you should have to follow their rules. There are many people who'd love to participate, so if these players wish to play in the LIV tour, so be it, but they shouldn't be allowed to participate in both. There are plenty of golfers to fill all leagues without double or triple dipping.

@@christopher4688 Hi Chris, I guess my feelings are that the athletes are acting as free agents. The LIV Tour won’t limit them from playing on other tours. I also question all the controversy about human rights violations. The United States has had their share of human violations and certainly aren’t a great example - think Viet Nam, Afghanistan, Iraq. And why no hand wringing over the NBA cashing in over in China, the biggest violator of human rights ever? So I get it that they’re trying to protect their turf but the reasons are purely financial. As time goes on the different tours will blend and these athletes will be allowed to play wherever. The PGA hangs its hat on the fact that they have a charitable component and the LIV tour may develop that as well, but the athletes themselves will certainly be in a better position to be personally charitable as the remuneration will be substantial. Every time you fill up your tank you’ll be providing support for LIV golf!

@@johndrumheller2969 I don't disagree the US has had certain human rights violations, and I am against any of it personally. The issue is the finances going to the PGA tour is not the same as the money going into the LIV tour, at least from what I can tell. I'm not against another tour existing, but I know the PGA tour has tried to increase participation for the viewers by creating the Fex-Ex Cup. Having players play on two different tours adversely affects this mission, and the PGA tour has a right to apply conditions for playing in their tour. All those wishing to participate in another tour have the right to resign from the PGA and join. The PGA also uses stats from all of the terminates to determine the top ranked players. How will the LIV track these stats. I wouldn't watch without more being on the line than just simply winning a single tournament. As of yet, there is no real substance to the LIV, it's just throwing lots of money at players to have them compete. It's impossible to see who the best in the world are if you divide them into different leagues. Even having them join certain events, players have good days and bad days, and the only way to determine the best in the field is by averaging like the points system tries to accomplish. These are of course my own thoughts and opinions on the matter.
P.S. Only about five or six percent of our petroleum comes from them. I wouldn't say every time I pump it supports their tour.

Your legacy is fine with me Phil. Go make that scratch while enjoying more time with family and friends this tour will provide. The PGA doesn't own anyone.
