I was following Phil in a pro-am 5 years ago. Lousy weather, no media and about 20 people following along. A woman in the small gallery was wearing a cancer survivor shirt. After a few holes, Phil stepped over the ropes and gave her a big hug right in front of me. I sure became a big Phil fan that day.

He had just played a poor last round at Loch Lomond Scotland, but it didn't stop him coming all the way over to where the kids and some adults were gathered. He spent a good while signing autographs, chatting and handing out balls, club covers etc. He even made a point of ensuring that he hadn't missed anyone, before he left for the clubhouse. An amazing golfer and a true gentleman.

Totally agree, especially with kids! I would think that's the best part of being a well-known athlete/celebrity - just being nice to your fans and making their day like that.
God damn right. So many athletes and celebrities forget who butters their bread, and gives them an amazing lifestyle for playing a game, or pretending.

Couple years ago when he choose his daughter’s graduation over finishing van important golf tournament, it was impressive. Made the right choice. Was never a fan prior to that move.
Real Detective51 prior to the 2013 Us Open his daughter was graduating Junior high. So he flew out to California to attended the graduation and then flew back to Pennsylvania to play at Merion. It was that open that made me a Phil fan

I worked the last US Open at Oakmont, while Phil was warming up he reached for a water in a cooler and I yelled "how about me?" and he tossed me a cold bottle of water. Truly one of the best golfers who's never forgotten the little guys.
Phil embodies everything the game deserves and everything the fans love. How can you not love Phil ?

This is why I love Phil. Obviously he wants to win, but he doesn't take himself too seriously. He's such a down to earth person that the average person can relate to. He's just a regular guy, but just happens to play golf about as well as anyone who's ever played.
Just imagine how many young kid's will have a story to tell about Phil later in life.

i work in the medical field and on some downtime i came across this video and god how i wished i was out there playing. I couldn't help but too smile watching this.
It’s been a privilege to watch Phil play, I’ve grown up with him. The man is a true gent! I’d echo the last kid in saying “Thank you Phil!”

This guy is so nice.. know someone who took care of the locker room at Copperhead when he played when it was the Chrysler Championship ..I don't know if he likes the track because I don't think he's been back much...But, .he left an enormous tip for the locker room attendants over a grand and could not have been nicer...signing autographs and taking pictures and on and on...Phil is the real deal...so nice and such a great credit to the PGA Tour...

He is an amazing ambassador not just for golf but displaying how any celebrity or pro athlete should act.
I agree Phil is the best...he made such a great impression with me when he signed a photo for me at the Rivera Country Club years back...just a little interaction with me made my world...thank you Phil for being not only a great golfer but even a better person...

Another golfing legend. Seve picking me up as a kid and signed my Seve shirt.
I followed him from hole to hole in the final round of the 2007 PGA championship in Tulsa and in a span of about 6 holes he probably gave 6-10 kids different items of his ranging from balls, tees gloves etc. It was pretty awesome.
Always been my favorite. Following behind the ropes when he was REALLY struggling off the tee, missing some fairways by 50-100 yards, but then rebounding, hitting shots we can only imagine. And all through it, his personality and whit shines.
What a legend. Can we have more Phil's in the game please..??!! A crowd pleasing game with a heart of gold. I love that he finds the young kids there with their parents and hands them a ball. Phil doing his bit to get the next generation in to golf.

I don't even watch golf and I know Phil Mickelson is the Don. All sports need a guy like him. Brilliant sense of humour 👏 👌
Took my now ex wife to the Memorial in ‘99. We sat and watched Phil and Corey Pavin hit balls on the range for what seemed like an eternity. It was late in the afternoon, so not too many people around. They walked off the range and Phil just started up a conversation like it was no big deal. He earned my respect big time back then and I think he’s one of the greats like Arnold Palmer. Phil’s Army.
A lot more personality than Tiger.
..... and a lot less titles than Tiger. 🤷♂️

One of the many reasons that Phil is easily the most beloved golfer of his generation. Other golfers could take a lesson from him in understanding that without the fans, they would not make the money they make.

Never takes himself too seriously. Gets to play golf for tons of money and loves every minute of it. Loved seeing him paired with Brady. All he wanted to do was pump up his partner.
I can't be a great golfer like Phil, but I want to be someone like him, someone who is admired by many people. But it is also difficult😂
