If you know Dreamcatcher then you know there's a lot more going on in this video than it's surface glam. OOTD is a modern nightmare set in the inch deep ocean of social media, internet influencers, and Idol fantasy. The whole thing takes place inside Photoshop where the fake world of internet culture is created. Look at me, I'm perfect, see all my cool things, I'm so happy. Underneath are Handong's bruised legs and the multiple images in the mirrors behind her. Mirrors. This is Dreamcatcher, mirrors always have meaning. Which Handong is real? Handong throwing Yoohyeon to the floor. Get the 'F' out of my way! I took a screenshot of that scene and zoomed in. Yoohyeon is terrified and Handong has a murderous look on her face as she stalks forward, then it's over, just an act for the camera. Jiu the goddess behind the window with the single chair, Amsterdam redlight district style. She's just merch for sale to the highest bidder. Gahyeon surrounded by tasty snacks that are forbidden fruit because, God forbid, an Idol should never gain any weight. Dami, a ruthless terrifying presence with the green lighting. She looks like a Goddess, she looks like Kali, the Hindu Goddess of time, death, and destruction. Do you feel like a monster? OOTD is the darkest song they've ever done, a plausible lie wrapped in sweetness. At the end everything evaporates into an empty stage. Nothing there at all, but follow the crown anyway, I'm sure they'll be something at the end of that rainbow. Maybe. All that being said, it's a great song and you need to see them perform it live on KBS Cool FM radio. The music gets out of the way of their voices and their joy at performing comes through in spades.
I have a theory on this comeback (I'm not sure if anyone has had this same theory). A lot of people seem to hate this new sound change and concept change, but I think Dreamcatcher is playing chess, whilst we're all playing tik tak toe. Firstly, the album is called 'Verses Villains' but it's just said as villains. The title 'Verses Villains' sounds incomplete because usually it is 'blank vs blank', not just 'vs blank'. I think that OOTD is the 'Villain' in the sense that it is this heavily edited, inauthentic world that kind of adheres to the Kpop industry's standards (emphasis on perfection, a particular musical sound and heavily editing idols appearances and personalities). Dreamcatcher is viewed as a group that doesn't follow the typical standards of Kpop. In the beginning of the song it shows someone at a computer editing dreamcatcher ,and at the end Jiu turns off the camera which erased all of the CGI and editing. I think their next comeback will return to their signature rock sound because it will be 'dreamcatcher vs villains' (a lifestyle that is not true to them as a group). Maybe it will be called 'Heroes', hero being the opposite to a villain. Another reason why I think this is because I remember when all of the teaser images came out and everyone was saying that it was going to be a 'Deja Vu 2.0'. In Deja Vu, it was a struggle between good and evil, hero vs villain, and in the end Yoohyeon (the villain) won because she killed Jiu (the hero). Maybe this comeback and their next will be almost a redemption arc for the hero to finally take down the villain.
@@Defy7777 this song is far from being the "worse". It's more in lane with modern kpop scene, but less in line with old DC music. And there is nothing wrong with it because DC is kpop group in the first place
Yes! When I thought about it for a minute, the only way our Dreamcatcher would be flexing seriously about being goddesses, their rollie, necklace etc. as if that's what's important in their world is if they were all simultaneously lobotomized. They're still doing social criticism, with their usual creativity and boundary-breaking style.
OOTD is such a divisive song, especially as a title track, but I low key like that's how it turned out. I feel like this is most I've heard people really talk about a Dreamcatcher song that's not just "I agree. It's great. I love it." It's a different and unexpected sound from them that definitely isn't for everyone. But it's one that's up my alley and have grown to like surprisingly quickly. Fortunately, Rising exists on the album as a B-side for people who would rather have that more traditional Dreamcatcher sound.
I had to listen to the song a couple of times to get used too haha now I can't stop listening. I think the concept is amazing, it's probably a criticizing. For me, it's a empowdering song just as much as BEcause is a love song. Look Handong's legs at 4:38 for example... There are so many details in the MV. They're genius
It's funny that you call BEcause a love song, because I kind of think OOTD is about self confidence in the same way BEcause is a love song, in that it is not :P BEcause is about an obsessive, unhealthy love, like a stalker ex :D Sua literally sings about choking the love interest to death in the song haha Likewise OOTD is about narcissism. Deukae told us that in the leadup. So all the things they are singing are like a fake life for the camera, like an idols life or maybe a social media influencer etc. They show one side to the camera but there is the reality when the camera is off
That's really understandable. We are used to see fantasy-like element from their song. But, as I remember they already told us that this comeback gonna different than another song. Still, I shocked but amazed at the same time. A couple listen and this is pretty good
also re: change of sound to gain more fans - I actually think this is a lampooning of the current "it" trends, but also fitting into the 2 part story where you can't just blindly follow "the crown" and expect to remain who you are or even to remain alive by the time you reach it. As always, Dreamcatcher don't do things by halves and pointing out how fake things are, including taking on "girl crush" and showing it to be just as fake as everything else, is like a punch in the throat once you take a second to process and think. My take is that "girl crush" is fake and putting teens in crop tops and having them swing weapons around while pouting is about as threatening as a toddler with a lollipop - only dangerous to themselves. "Dreamcatcher crush" is them being homicidal adult women whose only reason for killing you is that the day ended in y.
Hi. When I first listened to OOTD, I thought the song was so amazing and great, by the way, it was different from what I had expected, so I felt unfamiliar a little. But, the second and third... As I listened to it, I see myself quickly falling into the magic of another Dreamcatcher as I always did. Surely, Dreamcatcher is Dreamcatcher ! 👍
For me, on the first listen I didn’t know how to feel about the chorus but after listening to it a couple times it definitely grew on me. It IS something very different for them but I think they deserve to explore a little with their music, it’s just us as InSomnias that have to get used to it and support the girls
I have to be honest. OOTD is meh the first time I listened. Normally, DC titles instantly go to my playlist when they're dropped. Then after 2, 3 listen everything started to make sense. A few more listens, this song top the mini album for me and I cant get it out of my head. Now it's top 3 title for me lmao. It's addictive. I think we need to open our mind a bit and get use to this new sound instead of hating it right away. In the end, it's DC's song. I know it'll be a grower.
congrats on the little one! This definitely is the most divisive title track I've seen since either What or Scream. It took me two listens to already have it stuck in my head, but the third time, I suddenly realized that its *narcissism* based on illusions and encouraged by society. Things are being rendered and photoshopped and changed to suit that narrative but the fourth wall breaking with all the behind the scenes is the clue.
This song have a trait that similar to BEcause. BEcause theme more like a split personality, so the song the sound itself have 2 side..dark & light. While OOTD about narcisstic people & fake industry out there. So DC members, the song & the MV became the thing that they criticize, along with hyper cringey lyrics, fake drama, evil editing etc. OOTD is like the 'Mockingbird Memes' (look it up) of DC discography.
The concept of this video is basically a satire about narcicism, i think, and the video itself is the begining of the villains era so, i'm sure this is all part of a bigger story, not just "a feel good song about self love", they're deeper than that. I really liked it from the start mainly because i was waiting for something different than the usual "DC sound" (There's nothing wrong with keeping their signature sound but i woudn't like for them to be trapped in just one style forever so, change is good imo! and you can tell they're enjoying this concept so, all good) But of course music is subjective so it is normal the 50-50 response by the people, but as long as we always support them, there's nothing wrong with that. And i really enjoyed the rest of the EP as well, every song is a lot different than the previous one
I absolutely love this song and the underlying message it brings (from my interpretation**). It's not necessarily meant to be about self confidence, but more-so narcissism and the temptation it brings when presented on varying media. Kind of like, "look at all these nice things - you can have it too". Hence, they are 'Villians' , luring people with the promise of the crown, but from the video, it's not real/as it seems. I am thinking the next part will be about "heroes", and maybe make the story more clear. But I strongly believe the flashy/trendy elements presented in this song are intentional to convey that message. As a song, it's different from what we've heard in the past (which has been the case for the past many years) , but it's still very Dreamcatcher to me. I find it quite addictive, and while I know I'm biased I don't think another group could pull this off in the same way they can. Idk.. the more I listen , the more I love it. I'm hoping people will give it a chance.
I'll admit OOTD is a shock to the system, which is why its a good idea to hold back on giving first impressions (not talking to you OP as obviously your making a reaction video lol, but to the wider fandom). But I actually really like the song after a couple listens and understanding a bit better the story they are setting up and the somewhat ironic way the lyrics should be understood. I'm also a big fan of Fly High, Deja Vu, BEcause and BONVOYAGE - those are my favourite title tracks. Also Shatter is fxxx'n filthy good

DREAMCATCHER OOTD meaning: The song "OOTD" by Dreamcatcher appears to be about self-confidence and embracing one's personal style and individuality. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day," which is a term commonly used on social media platforms to showcase one's fashion choices. In the song, the members of Dreamcatcher express their confidence and uniqueness through their fashion choices. They assert that their fashion is their own, stating "OOTD, this my fashion, shut up, no more questions." They emphasize their ability to stand out and leave a lasting impression, comparing themselves to a time-lapse that will be remembered. The lyrics also touch upon their success and rise in the industry. They describe themselves as unforgettable and incredible, vying for attention and revolutionizing the scene. Despite facing challenges, they remain determined and focused on their goals, suggesting that they are on a different level than others. The chorus mentions materialistic elements such as champagne, necklaces, black dresses, and a luxury watch (rollie), implying a celebration of their achievements and a sense of luxury. It can be interpreted as a symbol of their status and success. The bridge and outro further emphasize their confidence and self-worth. They describe themselves as flawless, gorgeous, spotless, and priceless. This repetition highlights their belief in their own beauty and value. Overall, "OOTD" by Dreamcatcher celebrates personal style, confidence, and self-expression while also asserting their success and determination in the music industry. It encourages listeners to be proud of their uniqueness and to embrace their individual fashion choices.
It's probably easier to get everything (the song, mv, lyrics, it being sounded "mainstream") if ppl have the idea of their concept/storyline this time It's about being villains. Specifically narcissistic villains, the whole effect of it what it does to someone, and the whole storyline that deukae came up with regarding with the concept. This time it's a parallel universe, so it's a two-part story. Maybe we'll get the whole story after the 2nd part. I alr saw other commenters detailing my explanation much more so please read them. Maybe you'll get to appreciate the song more. Imo this is one of their most sinister songs considering what they're trying to convey. Just like how social media is. You might think someone's life is very amazing just bec of their ootd flexing posts, but what abt behind the camera?
I was like “meh” the first couple of listens, yet I’ve been listening to the song more than the rest on the mini album. Not the biggest fan of the chorus but overall, I think the song is very good.
A lot of fans are very confused with the music overall and I understand the producers said that it is taken inspiration from Indie Punk Pop and that is true this new wave of electro Punk rock is quite new to most mainstream song listeners cause even though it have always been there since late 2010s they are never really mainstream songs like Lexie Liu's Algtr, magician etc...,Femm's whiplash,Rina Sawayama Hell etc... are the songs I'am introduced to this genre of Indie Punk Pop rock which takes the 2000s Punk sound,2010s electro dance and Glam rock of the 70s'(Glam rock is loosely defined by mix of rock and roll, cabaret and complex art rock the visuals are usually campy, gliterry and androgynous with overall glamour and fashion culture) I saw a random K-pop drama channel indentify it as 80s dance pop it is not 80s dance pop it have nothing to do or sound like any 80s dance pop and no it doesn't sound like a "Maddona song" Glam rock was there before Maddona did the dance pop
For me, i like it alot. Maybe because my sister always play nct enhyphen that sounds not familiar for me so often so im kinda used to this kinda sound lol dunno it just my though. But im fine with this really haha. My first time listening to this is pretty much like you a bit. But im sure dc is up to something for the next one for clearer explanation.
Definitely not in my favorite DC title tracks list, but I do like it for what it is and find myself liking it more with more listens. I find myself in agreement with you with regard to preferring melodically driven choruses.
Uh oh, looks like this is KAM VS VILLAINS 🤭 Hey you're entitled to your opinion, not all songs make it to the playlist! As long as you acknowlege you know the reason they're evolving their sound. I for one loved it! But I've always preferred their heavier edm leaning tracks. Yes it's a departure from their sound but I feel like they're elevating, visualizing, hypnotizing, and leveling up. Can always count on DC to bring interesting production. They've been put into an "anime opening" box and their other songs like CHASE ME do sound dated whereas this sounds fresh new exciting, even in the edm scene this isn't being done and a label like "genre blenders" would be more valuable than "anime openers". This will open so many more doors for them (no pun intended [their producers name is Door 😅]) I can totally see them being invited to Coachella for this project or SXSW or if Warped tour was still around or any of the rock festivals. It wouldn't even sound out of place if Shatter was dropped at EDC. And the song is only the first layer of the project, part of the fun is finding the hiding meaning, deciphering the symbolism. In the words of a Gahyeon, "Shall we start this game"? 😈
Same thing happened to me. If you showed me the lyrics written down I'd confidently call it a Blackpink song. I trust they were going for criticism through satire but I feel the songwriters didn't emphasize that part enough. But hey this is what Dreamcatcher would be if they did conventional kpop all the time and, as expected, they are amazing at whatever they put their minds to.
My only complaint is the lyrics because their previous title tracks are more poetic on spreading the message. I'm tolerating the song more and more now after a few relistens although the lyrics still feel out of place for a DC's song. Also cool to see people's divisive opinion about it, it kinda makes me feel “normal" from the usual overwhelming positvity you get from kpop fans lol
It sounds like DC made a cover of XG/Everglow/Aespa/BP/ect song. Slightly rockified mainstream generic k-pop song. Btw, there is nothing wrong with those groups or their music, to each their own, but it`s just not something I expected to hear from Dreamcatcher`s title track. For me, thankfully, the rest of the mini-album is way more up my alley so I have new DC songs to add to playlist
my first impression, eh? hmm meh a little bit cause didnt have that pretty melody. It just catchy only. i had to listen many times and now im fine with it, this song is good actually, obviously not my fav title track but i love this album so muchh . there is so many details in mv. Everything in the mv is fake, manipulated, selfish, narcissistic. All the messages from "archenemy" though.. Handong's legs bruised up, Jiu in a display box like a product, the members constantly on their phones, Dami talking about drunk driving. satireeeee # done copy paste
The song is too kpop-mainstream to me. Also, any song with repetitive chorus will get low score from me instantly, same reason why I still can't listen to "What". I really like Dejavu, but still thinking that the song would be perfect if there's no repetition in the chorus. Other than the chorus part, OOTD is actually quite likeable. Then again, this could be another title track I have to skip in my playlist. Hopefully they won't use a similar sound for the next title track.
If you know Dreamcatcher then you know there's a lot more going on in this video than it's surface glam.
I also think that! But I don't think it has anything to do with Deja Vu
"Heroes" as an album name would be dope af actually
I hope so
But releasing a worse song for that is too far imo but I guess the could be doing it to get more korean fans

Dreamcatcher Official has released a dance practice version of the song. Not in love with the sound quality, but you get a good look at the choreo.
SCORCHING🔥🔥🔥
Different / Experimental
Handong's legs bruised up, Jiu in a display box like a product, the members constantly on their phones, Dami talking about drunk driving. satireeeee
# done copy paste
The song is too kpop-mainstream to me. Also, any song with repetitive chorus will get low score from me instantly, same reason why I still can't listen to "What". I really like Dejavu, but still thinking that the song would be perfect if there's no repetition in the chorus. Other than the chorus part, OOTD is actually quite likeable. Then again, this could be another title track I have to skip in my playlist. Hopefully they won't use a similar sound for the next title track.
dreamcatcher \:D/
big sigh... 😮💨
🧐
