Dude! From a Mainer: thank you so much for keeping our Great Secret!! Seriously...I've been a fishing guide in Wyoming, Idaho, and Alaska. I've been a Maine guide for years now and am convinced it's the best fishing in the contiguous US. That's right--WAY better than Montana. One day last September, in an 8 hour period, I caught 11 salmon, over 60 native brookies (REAL brookies), 6 stripers, bunch of smallies, a couple of large mouths, a couple dozen crappie, and two muskies (38", 44")-- just to see if I could do it while taking the time to make fun of MassHoles. It wasn't that hard. But don't tell anybody. Appreciate it.
"Hi. I'm Ben, and I crush souls." 🤣 I grew up trout fishing in North Georgia, and eastern Tennessee, and have great memories of yankin stocker limits out on the regular. Now that I'm in my 40's, and can finally get back to it...BAM, Ben kills my hopes and dreams. After watching this, I turned my fly rods in to wall art, and bought a tenkara (which is an ancient Tibetan word for unable to cast, fyi), and went back to bream fishing in the neighborhood ponds. Thanks Ben! In all seriousness, I just found your channel, and have been binge watching it for a week. Love it! Keep up the great work!
My favorite stereotype is the old guy with the funny hat, chest pack , 4 wt, 5 wt, and 6 wt rods. He still snatches bugs out of the air in an effort to match the hatch. When he gets to the river, he sits on the rivers edge and watches the water in an effort to understand what the fish are doing. Unlike some that jump out of their SUV, run down to the river and start casting. He is the guy that spent the winter tying for spring and summer hatches. He quietly goes about the business of catching the quality fish out of the rivers he likes to fish. He is one of those fishermen who took the time to teach a 13 year old kid how to catch a trout. Fast forward 54 years, I own a funny hat, a chest pack, and too many rods.

Stop talking about me. I’m only 40 that’s not old and a lot of us move to live by the water because we don’t run anymore. I literally bought my house due to its location on a famous PA creek. I hate the house I love the water.
As a North Georgia guy, you nailed it and I always laugh at how silly it is. There's a few actual wild trout streams that are worth the effort (barely), but there could be quite a few more if not for the way GA DNR handles the fisheries. It's basically an inefficient form of a food stamp program. Then you have the clowns bragging about their dog food trophies like you point out. They'll even call them wild fish...lol... Bass fishing and saltwater fishing are similarly worse than our neighboring states because of mismanagement. That's what happens when you get fisheries biologists with UGA degrees, though.
Trashing a great trophy fishery like Bennett Springs Mizzerie was hurtful Ben. So what if I use a fly that looks like dog food. On a spinning rod. With a proper strike indicator.

White the videos of those "monsters" are very enticing, I'd feel like a fraud if I tried to convince my non-trout buddies that those were trophies. Winter fishing in texas actually does suck! Sure if you have a boat and alot of patience you might pick up a bass or 2 but for a bank angler like myself, it's tough as hell especially with the cold fronts. Just a little over a month ago I had been enjoying some decent largemouth, smallmouth, crappie and even some catfish on my flyrod. Now I can't even get a damn drum. I've put away my flyrod and waiting for my vacation to go to arkansas for trout.

You pretty much nailed the driftless.
No complaints about ignoring Oregon. Keep it up. Ha ha.
Ben, next time you are in AZ go out to Chevelon Canyon Lake. Awesome place with big Browns. Best part is you will likely have it all to yourself.
Wyoming Game and Fish t-shirt from years ago..."Some states were made for carp (i.e. Greenie land), our condolences to them."
Nor Cal represent! Lower Sac baby! Haha. Great video…
That AZ pond in the picture is one of the best
Don’t stop now. Great video keep them coming
Good one! Yep, no fish in maine, for sure!! Ignore the profile pic, it's not a 24 inch native brown caught out of a backwater mud puddle in maine...
Must be pretty cold, heavy gloves and a beer koozie
Great video, humor & truth mixed together.
I would add north carolina i the mix of over stocked rivers and muskie fishing with live trout and some blue lineing tacticts
I'm from ND I don't think many know what fly fishing is. The 2 fly shops I knew about went bankrupt years ago. Although when I go "home" to visit family and friends I bring my fly rod (I only own 1 and catch an occasional figh with it too!) mostly for the looks I get and the "what is that" questions.
@@dakotagreg1177 caught quite a lot of Walleye fly fishing a couple lakes in Central ND this summer. The looks and comments I got would have been worth the trip without the fish!
I m a blue liner because of where I live.I do think there is some fishing in Maine though. The Saint John River begins there.
nope, no fish, you need to go to Ontario or Newfoundland
@@futuremainiac6351 I'm in Nova Scotia.
Awesome! From Connecticut🥰
You don’t have to go to North Georgia to laugh a them just come to Montana in July and August. And don’t tell us how we need you tourism money , we don’t . Thanks for the video
you need it more than you think
Absolutely NAILED IT for Connecticut hahaha the Farmington is such a joke
Yea, we folks here in Indiana fly fish. We have 5 kinds of bass, and on slow days we can always count on the blue gill bite.
From the "center of the universe": best one yet.
Pretty accurate on nor cal. Very funny. Truckree is super overrated . One river up north thats pretty sweet. Your buddy james let the internet know about it.
oh man you skewered Mudzoory. i’m gonna hit a trout park after hearing about them for fifty years. i guess i can get a jar of salmon eggs at Megalow Mart on the way there?
I wanted to take exception with your view on Maine, but I really wish nobody came here to fish. So, please keep telling people there are no fish here. While your at it, tell them to get their lobster shipped to them and to stay home.
It’s a little known fact that just like Maine, Montana actually has no fish either!
My 14 year old son almost died laughing at the "Pioneering Carp Fishing the L.A. River" comment.
Thanks for another good laugh
But but but you forgot Texas! 😂
He got us in the first one. He wants to fish Opossum Kingdom…because it’s called Opossum Kingdom.😂 He even mentions my stomping grounds the Guadalupe. Stay away..no fish in that river! 😅 Have a great one MacJ! 👍🎣
What !!! Last Beer ! Ya right !
Koozie in the snow
With gloves
HA Ha Ha, once again You nailed it Ben! Hahahahah
Am from GA. You nailed it.
Nah, this North Dakota guy put in his two bits last time, keep up the good work.
Perfect explanation of north GA 😂 warm water is where it's at.
As a Georgia subscriber I would be very interested in a TU review...possibly also by region.
You gotta do stereotypes for every rod weight. Could be good
I definitely could listen to more of these.
Bro, I'm from SW louisiana, and yea, reds are fun, but it's a gar hole for sure, and our waters are so polluted. If state politicians actually cared, this place could be a paradise. Chandlers Island I amazing but we don't all that luxury.
Again, quality! Oh and "cow poop".
