People talk about this but a more significant loss is the role your social circle would do in vetting out potential matches. Back in the day people had wide social circles and they would play an active role in choosing / helping find partners. Parents, siblings, best friends, and long term coworkers would actively match-make people. Dating near-strangers and trying to escalate that to a lifelong relationship is where a lot of the strife comes from. It's much more crucial to keep a large social network and eventually you find romantic interests within that. It's how I met my wife. We were both single teenagers and our mutual friends figured we'd be a good pairing - but we had just never hung out before. So they pushed us together. It helps immensely.

The exception would be that attractive guys can get away with it. This is so sad. Media has disconnected us from reality. It is also making people loose brain cells or something 🤷♀️ Going outside everyday is important ❤
I haven’t seen people who defend the other side, so here are the reasons why online dating is good🎉: It is more comfortable to start a conversation online with a stranger than in real life(for me especially, I can’t even say hello to people, let alone those of the opposite gender😅 so going on a first date, already checking that the person is interested in communicating with me greatly relieves stress). You get to know people better before you meet them. You have better control over how to set things through. Considering there are no social obligations and you are not meeting the person in real life yet, it eases things out for both the participants.
The real problem with dating apps is that they promote an attitude to life that fails to recognize that human nature is fickle. Fate is changeable, there are setbacks, people can discover new sides of themselves - a relationship must withstand all this. However, the consumer aspect of social media - likes on Facebook and other apps - rearranges the human mind in such a way that we can only think in terms of 'like' and 'dislike'. This makes it impossible to develop the personality structure necessary to sustain a long-term relationship.
another thing is that most matches on tinder end up being a waste of time because either the person doesnt respond or the conversation doesnt go anywhere. That encourages guys to to like as many girls as possible to maximize their chances.
how i felt. which is why i deleted all the apps. i felt like being isolated to online dating has made me an introvert. it fcks you up mentally because its easy to talk to someone online but then as soon as you meet in person the first impression could essily go bad because you spent the week prior talking about everything that is meant to be asked during the first impression in person

Back in the day people had wide social circles and they would play an active role in choosing / helping find partners. Parents, siblings, best friends, and long term coworkers would actively match-make people.
Dating near-strangers and trying to escalate that to a lifelong relationship is where a lot of the strife comes from. That’s not the point he’s making. He’s pointing out a change in the cultural perception of getting up and asking a girl out. There’s a significant group of women, and even men, who would say you should never approach a woman in a public place like that, or when she’s with her friend because women are tired of being asked out by guys when they don’t want guys to do it. The exception would be that attractive guys can get away with it.
Not all women think like that, but it’s not like a guy can sit there and determine whether or not she does think that way, and if so, whether he meets the arbitrary level of attractiveness not to be considered a creep, or whether or not she is in the mood for being asked out. I’m old enough to remember what it was like before, but young enough to know what dating is like now. The transition is so clean
This is such a deep comment - very well said
