Aurelian - Epic Roman Music

  • Опубликовано: 21 май 2024
  • Music & vocals by Farya Faraji, bagpipe by ‪@Dimitrios_Dallas‬, aulos and syrinx by ‪@stefanoskrasopoulis‬, with additional improvisations by the them, and translation by Demetrios Paraschos. Please note that this isn't reconstructed historical music, it's modern music using Ancient Roman instruments and the framework of their music theory.
Aurelian was a Roman emperor who reigned from 270 to 275 during the Crisis of the Third Century. Rising through the ranks first as a soldier and then as a general, he was hailed Caesar by his troops and took command of a divided empire on the verge of dissolution, uniting it all, which has earned him the title Restorer of the World.
The instrumentation consists of the Vergina model of the aulos, played by my colleague Stefanos Krasopoulis whose channel I highly recommend you visit for more music using ancient Greco-Roman instruments. He has also accompanied the melody with a syrinx, a traditional flute used to this day in parts of Greece, especially in the north. Dimitrios Dallas, whose channel I also urge you to visit for examples of Greek music, plays the askomandoura, an old bagpipe played to this day in Crete, and almost identical to the bagpipes used in the day by the Ancient Romans and Greeks.
The lyrics use Classical pronunciation and adhere almost completely to the vowel length and subsequent penultimate stress rule of Latin.
    Lyrics in Latin:
    Ex fīnibus vēnī,
    Ex antīquā terrā Moesiae,
    Ubi Sōl Invīctus lūcet,
    Sanguis meus est sanguis Illyriae.
    Mīles factus sum,
    Sub calōre sōlis,
    Cum equīs Dalmatiae,
    Sanguinem Gothōrum effūdī.
Claudius mortuus est, et Quintīlius surrēxit,
Sed legiōnēs meae mē Caesarem nōmināvērunt,
    Vīcī Quintīlium, usurpatōrem,
Factus sum sicut sōl in caelō.
    Imperium dīvīsum vīdī,
    In Orientem et Occidentem,
    Zenobiam punīvī,
Factus sum Parthicus Maximus et Restitūtor Orientis.
    In Occidentem intuitus sum,
    Ad usurpatōrēs Gallicōs,
    Illos totōs absorbēbam,
    Ut leo ovem dēvorat.
Sīcut in caelō sōl ūnus est,
Ita in mundō imperium ūnum est,
    Deus et dominus natus sum,
Cum meō sanguine et gladiō mundum restituī.
    Servus Sōlis Invīctī sum,
    Restitūtor Orbis sum.
    English translation:
I have come from the frontiers,
From the ancient land of Moesia,
    Where Sol Invictus shines,
My blood is the blood of Illyria,
I am the servant of Sol Invictus,
I am the Restorer of the World.
    I became a soldier,
Below the warmth of the sun,
    With the horses of Dalmatia,
I shed the blood of the Goths,
I am the servant of Sol Invictus,
I am the Restorer of the World,
    Claudius died, and Quintilius rose,
But my legions named me Caesar,
    I defeated Quintilius, the usurper,
I became like the sun in the sky.
I am the servant of Sol Invictus,
I am the Restorer of the World,
    I saw an empire divided,
In the east and the West,
    I punished Zenobia,
I became Parthicus Maximus and Restorer of the East,
I turned my gaze to the West,
    To the Gallic usurpers,
    I swallowed them whole,
Like the lion swallows the sheep,
I am the servant of Sol Invictus,
    I am Restitutor Orbis.
Just like there is only one sun in the sky,
So is there only one empire in the world,
    I am Master and God
With my blood and my sword, I have restored the world,
I am the servant of Sol Invictus,
I am the Restorer of the World.

I'm so happy you did one about emperor Aurelian as he is one of the most under appreciated historical figures despite saving the empire, and his death is one of the saddest deaths comparable to that of Julius Caesar. Words cannot describe how much this man had done for the Roman empire and I'm shocked that there is no movies or TV shows made about him, but I am glad he is getting the recognition he deserves. It's fun how some of the rithm or musical concept found today to be prograssive are either a use or reinterpretation of lost musical concept and rithm of the past. With preserving those ancient music and re-educating the community with the history how you do, I believe you are providiing a great service to the world. I totally support your talent and your purpose and I believe you are the cure for the poison the modern corporation are spreading to the radio hits (same as Believe Music) that take possibly talented artist and say: "there, this is the script, 3 notes, 4/4 and high pitch with no sense lyrics". Música espetacular, OH ROMA, Pai do Ocidente e da civilização Latina!!!
Latim para Português, sua língua filha:
    Eu vim das fronteiras,
    Da antiga terra da Mésia,
    Onde Sol Invictus brilha,
Meu sangue é o sangue da Ilíria,
Eu sou o servo do Sol Invictus,
Eu sou o Restaurador do Mundo.
    Eu me tornei um soldado,
    Abaixo do calor do sol,
    Com os cavalos da Dalmácia,
Eu derramei o sangue dos godos,
Eu sou o servo do Sol Invictus,
Eu sou o Restaurador do Mundo,
    Cláudio morreu e Quintílio ressuscitou,
Mas minhas legiões me chamaram de César,
    Derrotei Quintílio, o usurpador,
Tornei-me como o sol no céu.
Eu sou o servo do Sol Invictus,
Eu sou o Restaurador do Mundo,
    Eu vi um império dividido,
    No leste e no oeste,
    Eu castiguei Zenóbia,
Tornei-me Parthicus Maximus e Restaurador do Oriente,
Voltei meu olhar para o Ocidente,
    Aos usurpadores gauleses,
    Eu os engoli inteiros,
Como o leão engole as ovelhas,
Eu sou o servo do Sol Invictus,
    Eu sou o Restituidor Orbis.
Assim como só existe um sol no céu,
Portanto, existe apenas um império no mundo,
    Eu sou Mestre e Deus
Com meu sangue e minha espada, restaurei o mundo,
Eu sou o servo do Sol Invictus,

The one composition we all wanted, delivered and brought to life. I personally love how, at least for me, the music has a bittersweet, yet glorious, sound to it, denoting the sheer acomplishments of the man, and the tragic shortness of his reign. ¡Salve, Farya!

    • @faryafaraji
      @faryafaraji  24 дня назад +5

Some aspects are authentic; I rooted this in actual known Roman musical practice like the instruments, the general melodic line, but there's also implementation of some modern elements, like the low drone across the song.
I do have reconstructiond of Roman music in my Roman playlist if you want to compare

The carnyx, and especially the aulos, are my two favorite instruments in the Greco-Roman repertoire. In all your songs, like the "jarring" (as some people would put it) procession in SPQR, or the various military marches, all have a place in my heart. Though, Longinus Sdapeze and In Numas Time (my all time favorite) takes the cake definitely. Between your guys' works and the music group Synaulia, I can't get enough of that instrument.

    Need a Edessa 260 a.C and need a Constantine I Symphony.
    1) I am Constantine.
    2) A Divided Empire
    3) To Italy
    4) Constantine's Dreams, In Hoc Signos Vinces.
    5) Battle of Milvian Bridge.
    6) Only a One Emperor.
    7) Founding of Constantinople
    8) Council of Nicaea and a Cathedral in the Holy Sepulchre.
    9) St Helene.
    10) A End of an Era.
My suggestion to a Symphony about Constantine I the Great, called St Constantine I the Great by Eastern Orthodox Church, and only Constantine song, are very old (very good but old).
This and a Symphony about The Battle of Navas of Tolosa, in July (Battle has in 16 July of 1212), would be a great symphony (as all of your songs, are perfect) and has very but very few songs about Spain.
This Battle marks a before and after, al-Nasir (called in Spanish Miramamolin) called a Yihad in all Mosques of Almohad Caliphate to march with their camels until drink water in Tiber River in Rome, if Spain been lost this battle, now Europe was much different...
Great Works makes Farya and Greetings and Great Huge from Spain 🇪🇦

2 things: epic song, I really love latin, also, I am learning it, so it's very helpful
Second; about "si habra en este baldres":
I finally understood the leather thing. Talking with my grandmother the other day, she told me a couple of things about my grandfather, and how he used to have a lot of 'levanté' (in terms of relationships), and she said, 'but now they don't give him the LEATHER,' (it's a phrase I also use occasionally, but until now I didn't pay attention to it), and finally, I understood the meaning of making a reference to leather in the song. I suppose it's something that didn't stay the same in all territories of ancient Spain, but at least in my country (Argentina), that connotation remained for that.
I commented the second thing on the video, but i really wanted to you to see this. Sorry btw
