It's funny knowing now one of the sentinels duties in basic terms is to seek out the sith and put them down before things escalate so that means when it came to Palpatine the sentinels really, really and I do mean really drop the ball with that one.
While this would seem to be the case, it could also be pointed out that the Jedi order generally did not like the Sentinels and underutilized them. So, they would more often than not be relegated to guard duty, or not placed on missions where their skills are actually useful, as long as the council was involved. Thus, they rarely got a chance to hone their skills, and were therefore not effective. If you don't use it, you lose it. The fact that when you really think about it in detail makes a lot of sense why it’s forbidden to the Jedi. The force push compared to the force pull definitely shows in itself during a fight, were force pull is super aggressive, leading for a kill with ambition, where the force push is more to defend your allies or yourself to stabilize the situation of the fight

There is nothing inherently evil about using the force to obturate a foe’s breathing. Rendering ab opponent unconscious by asphyxiation is certainly less destructive than slicing off a limb or impaling them with a plasma blade.
So then who would win in a lightsaber duel; a guardian who fought during the clone wars and honed their lightsaber skills fighting many battles against the CIS or a shadow who actively sought out and most likely battled dark side adepts(if not stronger)?
I suppose there is no clear answer to that. It's like in the example (from KotOR): A Guardian would blast through a door and thus most spectacular announce himself while a Sentinel would pick the lock (silently) and thus keeping the momentum of surprise. So, I'd probably say that if you want to take down a single Sith with no urgency, Sentinels had the advantage because they could strike when the Sith is completely off-guard. If, on the other hand, you need to get the job done very quickly or face superior numbers, Guardians are more suitable.
Someone probably already mentioned this, but Luke used force choke on the guards in Jaba's palace. And that was just a slight movement of his hand. And how is this technique and different than lifting an opponent and slamming them into a mountain at 70 plus mph or so? Or playing with an individual's free will with the mind trick. OR ... Simply beheading an opponent in battle, or a kill thrust with that plasma saber that would begin to boil the insides of an enemy before they died a moment later? And it goes on and on. The weapon is merely a tool, be it the Force or the Saber or a handgun. It only does what it's user requires it to do. And so on
I'd love to get an explanation, ideally in canon, but the expanded universe is good too, on how it was that the Shadows didn't kill Palpatine long before he was really dangerous; and, if there are any stories of the Shadows attempting to undermine Plageus/Tyranus/Sidious' rise to power; or even Sidious & Vader in the Galactic Empire - complicated of course by the Jedi Purge... it just seems odd that the Shadows didn't go after Sidieous and Plageus, especially since Palpatine displayed Sith themes and artefacts in his chambers, publicly mocking the Jedi.
I'd guess it's a combination of three factors: A) The Jedi as a whole - when compared to the number of worlds and number of beings in the Republic - were just way too few. So simply the chances that Palpatine would have crossed paths with a Sentinel (a small faction of the small group of Jedi) early enough in his training were ridiciously small. B) AFAIK, Palpatine had mastered the ability to mask his strength in the Force. Remember, he sat on a couple of occasions with even Yoda in a room and the later didn't notice it. C) Simply a legal/ political reason: After Palpatine had risen to political power, they couldn't act against him legally just on mere suspicion. Yes, he had those statues in his office and maybe they might derive from that the fact he could be someone worshipping Sith philosophy ... but that was entirely legal. Besides, again, see A): Was a Sentinel ever in his office to even notice that? If anything, Palpatine was just as good or probably even better than any Sentinel at this sort of game of cloaks and daggers.
It all depends on how it's used. If you use it in emotion, or to intimidate or belittle, obviously you are using your anger to commit it. Though if it was used as a utility or a means to incapacitate safely, you wouldn't be using it from a place of darkness.
In all reality Force choke, though more grotesque in appearance, could be more benign than cutting someone down with a light saber. Force choke could be used to subdue someone and knock them out without killing. Cutting from a light saber is either permanent damage or lethal.
Can force choke/ grip be used on like hand or a limb, I mean we saw maul pull a clone troopers arm when the door closed, why don't Jedi just use it like a telekinetic hook? Or even a tether.
So if the sentinels were throughout the galaxy, then some must have survived the purge, unless it was orchestrated. But sentinels would have seen the clones murderous intent and could have used force choke to get away at least. Disappearing was something Jedi were good at. They might not even have had to kill them. Just make them pass out. This is an idea, Many of the Jedi died because they were friends with the clones. At least this is my observation. I love Star Wars, but tell Disney to stop being the Emperor's pawns. They have fallen to the dark side, and are having problems with reallity.
It makes sense that it should be used. In all honesty, in a fight, you can only fight if you can breath. Thats why cardio and and physical endurance are so important, even in the real world. It's crucial for soldiers and swordsmen alike. So... If you can choke them out thats not inherently evil or even angry. Its just... Tactical
I feel as if Obi-Wan adapted out of his Role of a Supreme Jedi Guardian, High Jedi Council Master...very easily into a Sentinel. I feel as if Qui-Gon was a blend more towards Sentinel, but a true genius in the living force...Which gave him an invitation to the table and a seat on the Council if he ever said yes.
We NEED a Jedi Shadow video game. Could you imagine? Lock picking, hacking, yellow lightsaber, force choke, stealth missions, etc… I think it would be a masterpiece
Sounds like the Sentinels were abolished by the Jedi High Council some time prior to TPM. By TPM, the Jedi had all but lost their ability to see the future and seem to have fallen back to the security of the temple. During this time, combat training suffered greatly- as evidenced by the slaughter of many overconfident Jedi in the Geonosis arena as well as the awful tactics used the following battle (charge straight into the robot army's gunfire!).
I kinda view choke as a neutral ability. You can easily use it without hate or malicious intent and could use a non lethal version of it just to subdue your opponent. I think Kyle ketarn (however its spelled) philosophy is pretty good "a force power is not evil, but its how you use it"
We need to see sentinels active during TCW and maybe around the time the bad batch takes place. Just sentinels hunting sith and slaughtering inquisitiors along the way.
If the Sentinels were 100 % effective we wouldn't have the Star Wars movies because plagueis, palpatine and Maul would be hiding in fear of being detected by a sentinal.
It's Canon that force exists, and kreia which is Canon, explains that no matter what your upbringing is a choice of the force, there is no such thing as Jedi sith or grey, if they're force sensitive they have the choice to do so, the influence of a "force power" whether it be Darth using his hatred or qui Gon using his curiosity, the powers exist but what we do with them is what judges us as sith or Jedi, very black and white, and Revan destroyed this concept and Keira explained it, Revan and Keira are the best chars of star wars lol, but let's focus on Luke

KOTOR beansed it by having a really goofy int bonus to skills. The fact that KOTOR 2 changed it to a standard d20 bonus system not only improved sentinels, it improved any skill-based class.
Sentinel is what I gravitate towards. But in Knights of the Old Republic it was a scout/consular that became my build. Sentinels are the hardy kind of build. But Scout is the hardy regular build. Jedi Shadows would be the more likely candidates to become a Sith, unfortunately, because they tread that line. If the universe were to suddenly become under the control of a Sith Lord, as happened with Palpatine, then it makes sense many if them would take sides for their own safety and prosperity. As "grey" force users are a thing as well, this makes some sense as to why they would not fair any better when it's straight up "Jedi" or "Sith" for anyone who doesn't understand the spectrum, because that's how it was written. I don't know if there ever was a force user that knew the full spectrum canonically, but I think they tried with Starkiller, which was who Luke was supposed to be originally according to George Lucas.

All those fancy titles and abilities - destroyed people with numbers for names, standard issue blasters, and basic military tactics.
They were the watchmen... living in secret, helping those around them as they can in a kind of long-term mission.
And so on
Uses Force Choke, evil bad Jedi....Drops a rock on his head crushing his skull! Nice move bro.
I'd guess it's a combination of three factors:
A) The Jedi as a whole - when compared to the number of worlds and number of beings in the Republic - were just way too few.

@@darthmaul7812 ok sorry sir
Cant get enough jedi sentinel/ temple guard content!
as always the more you tighten your grip on something, the more aggressively it will squeeze through the gaps of your fingers
It makes sense that it should be used. In all honesty, in a fight, you can only fight if you can breath. Thats why cardio and and physical endurance are so important, even in the real world. It's crucial for soldiers and swordsmen alike. So... If you can choke them out thats not inherently evil or even angry. Its just... Tactical
Best Jedi Practice has to be Battle meditation
Thank - you .
They sure were bloody useless against the 501st.
All those fancy titles and abilities - destroyed people with numbers for names, standard issue blasters, and basic military tactics.
1:10 nice KOTOR reference buddy, fuckin love your channel.
Do I look enough like a Clone Trooper? Considering a no-helmet cosplay. 🤣
I love when he uploads 3-4 times a day
I would love to see the jedi use green yellow white and blue lightsabers and the sith use red purple and black lightsabers
We NEED a Jedi Shadow video game. Could you imagine? Lock picking, hacking, yellow lightsaber, force choke, stealth missions, etc… I think it would be a masterpiece
A tie fighter's laser fire be red and purple
Sounds like the Sentinels were abolished by the Jedi High Council some time prior to TPM.
By TPM, the Jedi had all but lost their ability to see the future and seem to have fallen back to the security of the temple.
During this time, combat training suffered greatly- as evidenced by the slaughter of many overconfident Jedi in the Geonosis arena as well as the awful tactics used the following battle (charge straight into the robot army's gunfire!).
I kinda wish i know where you got this data from. I love sentinels and would really look to look into anything i can about them
"jedi allowed to use force choke" excuse me what?
Only on kink Wednesday
It's dumb that they get to use it but not us but good explanation.
So, when Yoda rolled into the emperor's office in EP 3, what did he use on those guards? "Snap neck"?
And a stormtrooper's laser fire be red and purple
They weren't around to apprehend the Chancellor.
Jedi Sentinel was my favorite Jedi class in both KOTOR games
he forgot about when luke used it in rotj to rescue han
A x wing's laser fire be green yellow white and blue
I kinda view choke as a neutral ability. You can easily use it without hate or malicious intent and could use a non lethal version of it just to subdue your opponent. I think Kyle ketarn (however its spelled) philosophy is pretty good "a force power is not evil, but its how you use it"
They did a wonderful job preventing the return of the Sith and detecting any attempts thereof.
It's because Force choke is like Force Push but is more condensed to a more refined to the neck area so
We need to see sentinels active during TCW and maybe around the time the bad batch takes place. Just sentinels hunting sith and slaughtering inquisitiors along the way.
Basically a jedi inquisitor in some aspects.
If the Sentinels were 100 % effective we wouldn't have the Star Wars movies because plagueis, palpatine and Maul would be hiding in fear of being detected by a sentinal.
Mace Widu to Palatine: "Does Mace Windu need to choke a sith?"
Hmmm, well I would have to conclude... 🧐 That they really dropped the ball on that one man!!! I mean Jeeesus.... 😆
Ya know this topic would be a great live action series!
Love the references to kotor
Gonna need some citations on this information.
It would appear that the Jedi Sentinels were a lot like Luke Skywalker's Jedi Knight in the new Jedi order post-ROTJ era in Star Wars Legends.
"... and then there is the less rare of the three..." . . . so, the more common...
Sorry, just felt the need to point that out... must be the Dark Side reaching out to me.
I think he forgot guardians were the ones with the blue lightsabers, not the yellow ones.
What is the name of the character on the miniature? Or in case of being a fanmade, wich specie is that elven-like? I wanted use it as inspiration for a dnd game-like character, but in Star Wars Universe
I wonder if a force user ever accidentally killed itself by force chocking while geting off.
Am the only one who wants Jedi Sentinel movie?!
No, you are not the only one. I too wish to see that.
@@JEDI_MASTER_OBI-WAN_KENOBI by the description we got from SW, it would be action packed and bloody as hell, pure love!!!
@@frenchy0411 Bloody? Jedi Sentinels? You do realize that Jedi equals Lightsaber right? And Lightsaber equals no blood right? Even the blasters dont make people bleed. A good old fashioned knife or blade will, but not a Jedi Sentinel with a Lightsaber or even a blaster.

I haven't watched this yet but I am willing to bet by the time the vid is done I will still not know what this "ABILITY" is. ok here we go!
Well I just watch the video and the ability the Jedi sentinels were allowed to use was force choke so maybe next time you should watch the video before you criticize it.
Interesting. I never even knew that Jedi used this
see the funny thing of the whole dark side and light side when it comes to skills their are a few jedi that have use lightning without being angry or hatting their target
Jedi Shadow is my class of choice in Star Wars the Old Republic
I wonder if the (Shadow Jedi) might of had any offsprings?
I also wonder if a person who has mastered both sides of the forces, that has figured out a way to bring proper balance to the force; If that person might have the ability to use the (Force Choke) power ability amazingly great with barley any problems in handling it?
Who were these shadow Jedi and where were they in the movies and books we bought ? Why did we hear of them before ?
I agree that force choke shouldn’t be off limits for just the Jedi shadow/sentinel class lest they become vulnerable to it!
Jedi Sentinel class is meh in KOTOR.
Jedi Sentinel class is awesome in KOTOR ll The Sith Lord's.
KOTOR beansed it by having a really goofy int bonus to skills. The fact that KOTOR 2 changed it to a standard d20 bonus system not only improved sentinels, it improved any skill-based class.
My thoughts?
They failed to detect Palpatine.
They failed, utterly.
Sentinel is what I gravitate towards. But in Knights of the Old Republic it was a scout/consular that became my build. Sentinels are the hardy kind of build. But Scout is the hardy regular build. Sentinels are wordly jack of all trades but also good at resisting force powers and poison. They're good at Jedi bindu. But they are abit boring as far as KoTOR goes.
i think if were a Jedi id probably want be a Sentinel, I love military equipment but yet id probably rather use the force to do things, like where yoda used the force to pull his lightsaber off its clip to fight dooku instead of just grabbing it? That would probably be how I'd do it lol. So I wonder which class id fall under? 🤔
I would love to see a video about the Jedi Shadows during the time of the return of the Sith
should count duku have been a sentinal seems it would have fit him well?
Just another example of how the Jedi Council failed the entire universe.
What about the Force Got-Your-Nose ?
I guess that means Qui-Gon is really a Jedi Guardian?
He didn’t knock in the Phantom Menace.
The space elf jedi on the thumbnail looks shed be doing a Ahego face at comic con
Sidious scoffs at jedi shadows 🤣
Ok, that is quite forbidden.
The Sentinels are definitely the coolest looking Jedi
Makes me want to watch the episode of clone wars again where Anakin and Plo Koon go to rescue Asoka.
