Nice set-up! I have an 87 firebird with a 383 stroker and t56 as well. Its very fun to mess around with. Its definitely alot of power for these third gens being very light.
Check out my little track day test drive with it, so you can get some feeling from the inside too. Now the car has Z51 C6 brakes, with track pads and c5 magnesia wheels with r-compound tires, a lot more grip and braking performance :-)
+LOWONBILLETS I´ve replaced that Sparco sw with a larger Sparco-copie that I bought in thailand for almost nothing. The one in the video is too small for my liking
That looks absolutely sweet! I have an '89 RS 5.0 T5WC that I'm looking to do the same. I also store for the winter a friend's '99 Z that has 4 9 1/2" Z06 wheels, LS1 T56 and a full exhaust. Damn these things are fun!
Truly one of the best looking cars out there. I have a 1989 Camaro but I swap a LS7 engine on it and so far I have added twin turbo kit and it's a beast be ready guys soon it will be featured in 1320 videos and you guys can see it :) I hope you guys like it
Thanx a lot!!! I wish I had some more recent videos of it. It looks a lot different now with black 1996 grand sport wheels and 13,4" C6 brakes. Only have vids from the inside from trackways
Dont know if you found 1. I know where there's a 91 in Georgia 52000 original miles. For 5 grand. Dont know all details. But needs paint. I can get pictures and phone number if you like.
That’s a nice video. Gen3 IROC-Z is bad ass. I use to have one. Now got a Gen5 Z/28. Old school my man. That setting doesn’t look like it’s in the USA? Look more like in Europe somewhere. Enjoy your Z, that is cool!
Hope I can do this to my old 88 Trans Am that I drove back in high school, one day. About time to toss that old 305 TBI in the trash. She’s just sitting under the shed collecting dust.
Just bought C5 Magnesium wheels to use for daily driving, not as good looking as the Z06 ones, but ALOT lighter. Will use C4 grand sport wheels for …spirited driving;-)
Thanx a lot. I actually drove it now a few days ago. We got lots of snow here. And I had to move it like a 30 minute drive. So I put studded tires on it and had a blast :-) Pics of it with winter tires in instagram
Haha yeah I just took my mountainbike/downhill helmet because it has a camera mount on it. But I knew it would start some people making comments ;-) So the streets is NOT a racetrack?? hmmm never thought of that ;-)
The swap itself is not that big of a deal. Everything you need is available online from hawksthirdgenparts and other similar companies. And if you are a member of thirdgen.org. you will find everything else you need to know. Some people are doing these swaps in a driveway over a weekend. But mine took WAY longer than that, since I live in Sweden, ordering/finding stuff takes a lot longer and is way more expensive etc
Eventually when you blow that 10 bolt, and trust me you will if you launch it w/ drag radials or slicks and it dead hooks you can kiss it goodbye after a few of those if it does not break the first time, especially w/ a manual, but if you keep street tires on it you be ok for a while on 400 hp, but if you do heads and cam or bottle/s/c, just go spend the $2k on a curry 9" with Strange axles and a Detroit Tru-Trac and be done w/ it. The tru trac is the BEST Posi unit for a street car or auto cross machine!! Trust me, been there done that w/ F-Body LS swap's, the 4th gen rear is no better than the one that came out of it!
Mikesanto70: I know that my crappy 10 bolt is shit and has been shit since day one. It´s so annoying that GM didn't put anything better in the Fbodies especially when you think of late LS1 M6 ss camaros etc in mind My car originally had a 9bolt aussie unit in it, but that one got worn out, and I replaced it during my years at the university with this cheap solution;-) Been beating on it for 9 years now and every day seems like it´s last day ;-) I really wish to replace it with something stronger AND lighter, but thats a hard combination…An SLP Dana 44 would be great, but they are hard as hell to find. A C4 Corvette Dana 44 would be great but the job to get it in there properly is a bit too much of a hazzle for me. So I guess I´ll end up with a Moser 12 bolt with a true track and 31 spline axles. My 10 bolt has the arp carrier bolts and TA girdle, and I believe it sure has helped in keeping it alive this long :-)
Moser 12 Bolt would work just as good, just a little more of a weight penalty w/ the 12 Bolt vs. the 9", either way you go, you will be fine! How do you like the detroit tru-trac you have in it now?
The last 8-9 years I´ve been running a Auburn "pro" unit. Not too bad I guess. But It is not that super predictable, makes big difference if it´s hot or cold fluid in there. Squeaky and clunky too when the oil get heated up, and more of a one wheel peel problem when the fluid is cold. So the 12 bolts are heavier than the 9" ford units? hmmm that sucks...
+nedaCFilms / Mustang-Town The car actually have those springs, but they didn't work up front with the ls-swap, so now it has Camaro RS springs cut 1/2 coil up from and Eibach sport lines in the rear
Thanx. So do I. I´ve had it for over 20 years now. It´s in my garage now for som massive rebuild/design of the floor to make room for 3,5" exhaust without sacrifice of ground clearance
Factory Heavy 16x8" Wheels won´t fit my 13,4" brake rotors. i´ve been running c5 magnesium 18x9,5 Wheels and c4 Grand sport Wheels for many years on the car, but not when this video was made.
The engine/transmission combo from a 2006 GTO and a fuel tank from a 2001 trans am was around 7000USD when I bought it in 2009. Then its mostly smaller stuff needed. For people in USA these swaps can be done really cheaply. Here in Sweden it´s a bit more expensive...
Yes up front I got spacers. for the wheels that I had in the video they were really thick ones because the copy Z06 wheels had crazy ET. I think they were 58mm thick. In the rear I don't need any because the 4:th gen rear is wider
+Matthew cyr Actually the T-tops is just about the ONLY thing on my car that does NOT rattle or squeak. And I have not done anything to them in the 18 years I´ve owned the car. Maybe the holes or the pins on yours are badly worn and needs replacing.
Looking to build just about the same. Kind of want a 6.0, hows the car handle at top speeds. Do you have any times? Like 0-60 or 0-100? Will that config get you up to 160 to 170mph you think?
Hi Dan. Well I don't have any measured 0-60 times, and with the crappy 10 bolt rear end, theres no ay I can find out true times either…IF I put my slicks on in the rear and warm them up the rear would snap instantly. I did a high 12 in the !/4 mile with a smooth start from idle, with a trap sped of 180 something (kpH) I´ve been driving at around 270km/h without a problem…or not "without" a problem (It´s NOT a Mercedes) I´ve got some strange driveline vibrations that is getting a lot worse with spec. So I´m sure It would go around 290 or so in 5:th gear without the vibrations. I Just took a short pull in 6:th gear, and It´s supposed to be faster in 5:th
+robbeiroc that vibration is likely due to your drive shaft balance. Also I only use 6th gear to cruise at about 80mph on the interstate. Love the car man
The vibration mystery still haunts me. I did send my aluminum driveshaft out for balancing. 0 difference…I even replaced the axles for new Toms rear ends versions, and we "thought" that it was vibration free for the first 20-120 pull, and then, NO it´s still vibration like crazy. I´ve changed the pinion angle 10 times. It´s still vibrating like crazy.
+justin mullen No AC on mine, we I live I would only need it maybe 5 times each summer…Lappland Sweden, I still got the heater core connected though ;-)
What kind of upgrades did you add? Also how did you handle the harness and deal with the got accessories being so low to the k member. I've got this motor and trans combo on in the garage waiting to go into my 89 IROC. I watch this when I need inspiration!
Great choice Thomas!! I ordered a "J1" harness from Speartech. That is pretty much all you need in the wiring stuff. And you need a good friend with wiring skills :-) The accessories are all stock GTO, everything fits really nice. I notched the K-member, made it about 1cm thinner where the oil pan is too close otherwise. My motor is still completely stock. Did this swap back in 2009 and it has been running great ever since. I have a cam for it, been on the bench for a few years now...All the info you need is on thirdgen.org
Thanks Robbie. I love your car. I've been trying to deal with the TPI motor for a while and it's been an uphill battle. When I saw your car I made the leap! Great video!!! What kind of shifter did you end up with? My GTO LS2 with T56 has a Hinson short throw shifter but I've been told it won't work with the thirdgen console. Again, great car Robbie! If you can do it over there I'm hopeful I can have similar results here in Arkansas! Really nice ride!
Hi again Thomas. I got the Pro 5.0 shifter with a bronze shifter bushing. Remember that you need to change the brass thing in the transmission where the shifter "goes in to the transmission" Otherwise a Fbody shifter won't work. D&D transmission has everything you need. Put a Tick master cylinder too, stock Fbody, even the upgraded ones from 2002 are junk. I had problems with the stock LS2 clutch swell, at high rpm´s. This winter I will add the rear c6 z51 brakes. The fronts have been on for a few years. Then my custom EPS cam will go in. Just need the PAC 1519 valve springs
No the 82-2002 Fbodys mostly had similar crappy 7,5/7,65" 10 bolt with 26-28 spline axels and C-clips rear ends. My car actually had the 9bolt aussie unit in it when I bought it. But the diff was worn out and the 10 bolt 7,65" rear ends was a lot cheaper to restore back when I bought it. Wish that I still had the 9bolt for it...This axle is the cars weak spot.
So i'd love to know how successful you are driving this in the winter, i've got an 87 Iroc Z28 with a swapped 350 TPI but this'll be the first winter i'll be driving it in, i can barely stay straight on wet pavement... So i'm very curious haha.
+JeepeRy Rutz My car is almost undrivable during winter. You se I live one hour north of the arctic circle, so we have snow on the streets 5-6 months of the year. In stock form with really good studded winter tires it´s OK, but the polyurethane bushings makes it rattle and shake like crazy. I tried it a few years ago, and after 30 minutes of slow driving it had already broken a few light bulbs from all the shaking…It´s really a crap car when it comes to rough roads. Live rear axle and poly bushings make sure of that :-) Yeah after the LS2 swap it really is something you have to be careful with when the roads are wet
SalemMillion I already have TOYO R1R tires on another set of rims for track and street use :-)For normal driving I now have 18x9,5 C5 Magnesium wheels on all 4 corners with Bridgestone tires. For this video I was running my old chines Z06 copies with crap tires :-)
+robbeiroc Yeah i have the same problem on my 89 Caprice, a friend told me to use a lcd or lsd rear axle kit, But i found a nissan skyline gtr heavy duty rear axle if it will fit then it will be perfect
+SalemMillion hahaha ... just get a curry 9" ... they build them to whatever spec you need, quick and easy gear ratio changes and basically bullet proof ... bahahaha a skyline gtr rear axle ... smh
As it is now, I´m gonna see if I can build in a rear end from one of my old Mercedes e-classes in there. the design is very similar to Art Morrissons new IRS. But instead of 10-12K it´s for free. Sure I will need beefier axles and a LSD in there. But hey, they run over 800 hp to those axles stock in turbid E320s here in Sweden. I´d love a Midwest Chassies Fab 9" for sure :-)
I bought everything for the swap from the states, exept for some small used parts that I found here in Sweden. So a lot of money spent on shipping parts over the ocean :-)
The exhaust is a homemade out of stock C5 4 cats, 2002 SS camaro manifolds. And stock 3" exhaustpipe from the cats back to a single swedish made muffler
There's a nice combination of Chevys inside, you got some serious skills with cars too, I'm just getting some tools myself to put in Koni suspension kit on my SS in a few weeks..... Anyway, I enjoyed watching your video, it was very nicely done, enjoy that Camaro man it looks like tons of fun! :)
No it´s in Sweden where I live. There are more classic US cars here in Sweden than there is in US per capita. We even have the worlds biggest US car meet, so there are LOTS of Camaros here, they were even sold here when new…But there are not many with an LS swap ;-) And our gas prices don't make US cars that popular..most people drive newer diesels
Marcus: Heavy replica Wheels makes EVERYTHING a lot worse in regards of performance. Replica Z06 Wheels are about 8 Pounds heavier each. Rotational mass is to be multiplied by 4 to get in the ballpark of what your loosing in weight. So acc, braking and suspension response will be a big difference :-)
I sure do. It´s got some upgrades since the video, Big brakes and magnesium wheels etc etc. The snow is finally melting away here now, so its gonna be back on the streets soon again
Because I feel that my 8 minute edit without the music was worse. And I didn't kill off all the sound from the LS2 did I? Also most of the driving scenes filmed from another car has mostly wind noise and nothing else
You can still hear the car a little. I just love the way those lsx sound ... Dont get me wrong ,It is a good vid . I have a vortec 350 with a bit of work done in my 89 rs. I removed the radio so I can hear the scream of the gear drive Hahaha. Nice car u did a great job with it.
These cars never look right with larger diameter wheels, this car would look so much better in MY opinion with factory 16inch IROC wheels then lowered! I would also add IROC Z decals even if it’s not a IROC and have a mid 80s steering wheel instead of a factory S. Wheel like everybody does! I seen a clean IROC with 19s in front and 20s in back 🤢🤮🤒😷
+mfuji02 I can hear the engine sound just fine, especially when I´m inside the car behind the wheel. When we shot a lot of the scenes there were no engine sound available, only wind noise, so whenever there were good quality engine sounds, you can hear it in the video
Helmet=is my mountainbike helmet, great mounting for camera. Suede steering wheel goes tighter great with gloves for good grip. And when it is -5 celsius gloves are extra good to have. Thats why I´m also wearing a down jacket
would you take the damn music off. if i wanted to hear music i'd search for some. if im searching for an engine running in a car that's all i want to hear.
I'm a firm believer that the LS motor makes any engine bay look better.
I believe it makes any car reliable
Not a dodge
*cough cough* TPI
Man that drift around the circle....man!!!
Anthony Capone roundabout *
rotary
Anthony Capone something a mustang can't pull off 😂😂😂
i Swapped ls into my 89 iroc and it's unbelievably good!
Those car are so much fun to drive.I've got one from 83 and it drive like new even if she is 32 years old and you are a really great driver.
Nice set-up! I have an 87 firebird with a 383 stroker and t56 as well. Its very fun to mess around with. Its definitely alot of power for these third gens being very light.
Well if your intention was to make me very jealous and to envy you, Mission Accomplished!
Check out my little track day test drive with it, so you can get some feeling from the inside too. Now the car has Z51 C6 brakes, with track pads and c5 magnesia wheels with r-compound tires, a lot more grip and braking performance :-)
Awesome choice of music...R.I.P. Gord Downie
That car is sweet and the drift in the round about was great!
That sparco steering wheel has got the most popular steering wheel when building a project. I see it all the time. Had one myself.
+LOWONBILLETS I´ve replaced that Sparco sw with a larger Sparco-copie that I bought in thailand for almost nothing. The one in the video is too small for my liking
Nice car...Great songs!!!!!! Love the sound of that car, not too loud!
u are blessed with a beautiful Camaro keep her safe
That looks absolutely sweet! I have an '89 RS 5.0 T5WC that I'm looking to do the same. I also store for the winter a friend's '99 Z that has 4 9 1/2" Z06 wheels, LS1 T56 and a full exhaust. Damn these things are fun!

Best iroc video I've seen so far. Love the swap wish I kept my 86
Very nice car, and very nice video....beautiful footage, love the music. the car is bad ass!!!
Thanx a lot!!!
I wish I had some more recent videos of it. It looks a lot different now with black 1996 grand sport wheels and 13,4" C6 brakes. Only have vids from the inside from trackways
nice ........love this car ...i have a 85 camaro black...
Nice video...Well done... Killer car with the LS2 !!!!
I NEED A 3RD GEN NOW!
Juan Brito-Nina did you get it? the third gen?
Dont know if you found 1. I know where there's a 91 in Georgia 52000 original miles. For 5 grand. Dont know all details. But needs paint. I can get pictures and phone number if you like.
Awesome job, nice car bro. Mine is waiting a LS upgrade now.
That’s a nice video. Gen3 IROC-Z is bad ass. I use to have one. Now got a Gen5 Z/28. Old school my man. That setting doesn’t look like it’s in the USA? Look more like in Europe somewhere. Enjoy your Z, that is cool!
I´m in Sweden, so you are correct
Great job with vid and car!! Keep rockin👏🏻
Super clean! Nice ride!
bad ass car dude, enjoy in good health.
Nice Camaro & cool video!
Hope I can do this to my old 88 Trans Am that I drove back in high school, one day. About time to toss that old 305 TBI in the trash. She’s just sitting under the shed collecting dust.
Nice clean looking car.
very clean build
now its even cleaner, with red tail lights C6 z51 brakes and 18" c5 magnesium wheels all around
Just bought C5 Magnesium wheels to use for daily driving, not as good looking as the Z06 ones, but ALOT lighter. Will use C4 grand sport wheels for …spirited driving;-)
Sweet build man.
it's fucking beautiful
Thanx a lot. I actually drove it now a few days ago. We got lots of snow here. And I had to move it like a 30 minute drive. So I put studded tires on it and had a blast :-)
Pics of it with winter tires in instagram
Somebody should tell this guy that he's not on a racetrack... lmaooo at the full gear, driving down the road lol. Sweet ride though!
Haha yeah I just took my mountainbike/downhill helmet because it has a camera mount on it. But I knew it would start some people making comments ;-)
So the streets is NOT a racetrack?? hmmm never thought of that ;-)
Haha thats awesome.
I can't complain, im guilty of it in my 'stang also haha.
Seriously though, man. Sweet ride! How difficult of a swap was it? Im thinking about doing an LS1 swap when I get my hands on an iroc.
The swap itself is not that big of a deal. Everything you need is available online from hawksthirdgenparts and other similar companies. VERY NICE.......
Everything good all it needs is a set of 19" iroc wheels
Fasza camaro , fasza zene , fasza video!!! GREET from HUNGARY !!!

Yeah I´ve got that sorted out now. The speedo is correct in the video, but the tach shows 50% of true revs
Very nice
Tragically Hip!!
You have inspired me to to do a 350tpi to Ls swap
I said GTO so he put a Pontiac motor and transmission in there?
Third Gens are so yeay to get sideways. My old 470 HP Trans-AM was always that way! lol
I would install a set of Eibach Sportline springs and it will be 100% perfect, lol.
+nedaCFilms / Mustang-Town The car actually have those springs, but they didn't work up front with the ls-swap, so now it has Camaro RS springs cut 1/2 coil up from and Eibach sport lines in the rear
Why wouldnt they work? I'm doing a ls swap to mine and have those springs D:
Junk, they'll end up sagging in the back.
Get some BMR or strano springs
GD I love this car
Thanx. So do I. I´ve had it for over 20 years now. It´s in my garage now for som massive rebuild/design of the floor to make room for 3,5" exhaust without sacrifice of ground clearance
nice car! all your missing is an IRS from a C4 vette to make it perf!
cut the song out.. car sounds to nice for audio lol
Would look so much better with the iroc stripe kit on it.....And slap the factory rims back on it...
Factory Heavy 16x8" Wheels won´t fit my 13,4" brake rotors. i´ve been running c5 magnesium 18x9,5 Wheels and c4 Grand sport Wheels for many years on the car, but not when this video was made.
Thats my dream car right there lol
Dope Iroc
The tires/rims dimensions are quite akward
Nor really that strange 275/40 rear 255/40 up from. Rims were 9,5 and 10,5" wide. Those wheels were heavy and bad quality so they are long gone
How much money went into this build? just a ball park with swapping everything
THE HIP!
Are you running spacers? If so what sizer?
Yes up front I got spacers. for the wheels that I had in the video they were really thick ones because the copy Z06 wheels had crazy ET. I think they were 58mm thick. In the rear I don't need any because the 4:th gen rear is wider
sex on wheels, just picked up an 86 trans/am in arctic white with a 5 speed.
T top and no rattling how did you do that mine squeaks and rattles everything in the t top
+Matthew cyr Actually the T-tops is just about the ONLY thing on my car that does NOT rattle or squeak. And I have not done anything to them in the 18 years I´ve owned the car.
Maybe the holes or the pins on yours are badly worn and needs replacing.
The helmet is my mountainbike helmet, It has a camera mount on it. Super convenient :-)
What’s with third gen owners being mountain bikers, it’s crazy
Looking to build just about the same. Kind of want a 6.0, hows the car handle at top speeds. Do you have any times? Like 0-60 or 0-100? Will that config get you up to 160 to 170mph you think?

nice car,,why the 96 rear end though? is it stronger or anything ? just wondering

why did you say high quality lighter wheels....can you tell anything bad with replica wheels...just wondering
They aren't very heavy, but they aren't bbs light either.
good job. needs new gauges to support the new speed and redline.
Lol Computer simulated huh?
It just looks so real :-)
What a beautiful Chevy Camaro, Have you thought of semi slick tires on that baby ?
SalemMillion I already have TOYO R1R tires on another set of rims for track and street use :-)For normal driving I now have 18x9,5 C5 Magnesium wheels on all 4 corners with Bridgestone tires. For this video I was running my old chines Z06 copies with crap tires :-)
+SalemMillion I have slicks for it, but with the stock crappy rear end theres no use putting the on, I´d break the rear end in 5 minutes
Where is that ?
One of the Scandinavian countries ?
Great swap by the way, drives like a real Z/28 should.
Yeah I live in Sweden, all the way up north of the arctic circle.
Bought the car in Colorado back in 1998
The car looks & sounds great, did you buy the LS2/T-56 in Europe or US ?
One bad ride
This looks like Germany. How did you get this car to there and do people ever ask you about it?
No it´s in Sweden where I live. There are more classic US cars here in Sweden than there is in US per capita. We even have the worlds biggest US car meet, so there are LOTS of Camaros here, they were even sold here when new…But there are not many with an LS swap ;-)
And our gas prices don't make US cars that popular..most people drive newer diesels
Marcus: Heavy replica Wheels makes EVERYTHING a lot worse in regards of performance. Replica Z06 Wheels are about 8 Pounds heavier each. Rotational mass is to be multiplied by 4 to get in the ballpark of what your loosing in weight. So acc, braking and suspension response will be a big difference :-)
still lighter than the oem iroc wheels probably
Is all of that binary code for something? An WQxrT 21837 Camaro. Wtf?! Smh...
Way way cool
Do you still have the car.?
I sure do. It´s got some upgrades since the video, Big brakes and magnesium wheels etc etc. The snow is finally melting away here now, so its gonna be back on the streets soon again
nice
Why would you put music over the sound of the car...
Nice car u did a great job with it.
sick car!!! check out my 88gta trans am with an 02 ls1 swap!
nice!
Nice video. Now I want one.
why the helmet?
Because of the camera mount on it :-)
These cars never look right with larger diameter wheels, this car would look so much better in MY opinion with factory 16inch IROC wheels then lowered! I would also add IROC Z decals even if it’s not a IROC and have a mid 80s steering wheel instead of a factory S. Wheel like everybody does! I seen a clean IROC with 19s in front and 20s in back 🤢🤮🤒😷
1:45 is that a reflector on the side fender ? 🥱
Those are not real Z06 wheels they to skinny, if it had the factory ones they are much wider then this car would look a lot meaner!
music ruined it
+mfuji02 I can hear the engine sound just fine, especially when I´m inside the car behind the wheel. When we shot a lot of the scenes there were no engine sound available, only wind noise, so whenever there were good quality engine sounds, you can hear it in the video
+mfuji02 I hear the engine, exhaust and wind, etc, over the music with no problem, lol.
yeah
Most music does.....it’s too subjective from person to person. Stick with engine noise.....
helmet and gloves lol beautiful car tho.
Helmet=is my mountainbike helmet, great mounting for camera. Suede steering wheel goes tighter great with gloves for good grip. And when it is -5 celsius gloves are extra good to have. Thats why I´m also wearing a down jacket
well wount be as heavy as modern muscle cars
Get the shitty music off of there, We wanna hear the car!
would you take the damn music off. if i wanted to hear music i'd search for some. if im searching for an engine running in a car that's all i want to hear.
What clutch master cylinder setup did you go with?
Its a Tick MC, been working great. Heavier pedal for sure but zero issues
@@robbeiroc thank you very much
THAT IS A NICE CAR -- if you watch it to the end he makes love to it haha
