  • Darktide, for its flaws right now, is an extremely fun game to play - that is, until your teammates start becoming a source of frustration and annoyance. Here are some of the MOST annoying habits I've experienced during my time playing Darktide. I hope that this video at least brings awareness, a place to vent, and provides a little bit of advice on addressing some of these habits.
    May the God-Emperor protect.

The not sticking together and the running ahead is what drives me insane.
I have been told I am a bad player for wanting my team to stick together.
But it's probably the biggest reason why matches I play in fail.
I was just in a match that I eventually gave up because the two zealots just ran ahead as fast as they could and I had to keep dealing with the trickle hordes at the back and kept getting charged by Muties.
Someone even said to me that coherency is "anti-team play".
    I hate some PuGs.

I don't know what it is about Darktide that causes this. I have just under 900 hours on VT2 and it's very rare to see games where the players don't at least make a barebones effort to keep track of where their team is. Rushers are extremely infrequent and most of the time you'll even have teammates come to reinforce you if you get stuck at the rear taking on enemies.
Meanwhile on Darktide, where you're pressured even harder to stick together because of Coherency, I see people splitting up all the time. I've almost never had teammates come to help when I get stuck defending against an attack from the rear, they usually just keep moving forwards and leave me behind. Rushers appear in pretty much half the games I play, though thankfully they generally don't bitch and moan when they go down and blame the team for not being there for them (I've seen this happen in both VT2 and Darktide, but it's extremely rare).

Well in most games i play i tend to notice the sniper before our veterans do i run slab shield mostly cause i like the sweeping heavy attack and the ability to block bullets. Usually whenever we have open mic i get thanked for the fact that i jump in the way of a sniper shot to block it that nobody saw coming. The other day i was playing that one mission where you have to get the ammo off the train and load it into the big box at the top of the stairs. There was a sniper that spawned in the room we came from that we dropped down from he was in the perfect spot hiding behind a console in the room only thing you could see was his head and his elbow i couldn't kill him due to the limited range of the grenade gauntlet so i had to sit there in the defensive stance blocking shot after shot after shot i kept marking him and our veterans one with the slowest firing las gun and the other with the slowest firing recon las gun wouldn't bother to shoot him while i had him focused on me. It was our psyker that had to handle it. She hid behind me and kept flinging explosive orbs at the sniper from 60 meters away trying to hit him. She killed him after about 13 seconds of flinging orbs. I wanna also add that the sniper had shot both of our veterans at least once before trying to shoot me cause they ran out of his line of sight. This was a heresy hi intensity engagement zone btw

If someone is left behind, the rest of the team should be turning back for them. I can't count the amount of times I've been cut off by bombers/fire barrels etc and have everyone else just go off and that nearly always ends up with me having to fight off waves by myself before I can even start to move up. It's not always in somebody's control to keep up, so please watch your team, it's just as much your responsibility. Also a big pet peeve is when someone goes down nobody even stops to look. It only takes a half second of enemies popping up behind someone squishy to down them, not to even mention people not even trying to clear the group off of their body. ESPECIALLY when they are right next to you. This is a team-based game, so try to keep an eye on people. That person you may have left for dead might have pulled off the clutch play that otherwise kills the rest of the team 2 minutes later. Some others here have also commented on this but PLEASE a glowing blue head isn't your target. Especially if it's on a small guy the Psyker is probably just trying to keep their warp charges, or trying to proc their Essence Harvest toughness refill. Blue head is NOT saying "shoot me!"

At that point it means that theyre probably fucking about and not trying to stick with the team so theyre causing more issues. But in the main, i totally agree. Im a vet, and i a sniper, and I often get caught in the back cos I usually have no close combat support and everyone has run off without me because whatever was in front of us is dead. But they dont look behind us and see the mob rushing down the corridor as they run away. Ive died many a time trying to catch up to my team with a mob of Nurgle Cultists on my heels.

One gripe of mine that annoys me to no end is when people trigger the demonhost unnecessarily. I get being new to the game and I will give them a pass. If you are an experienced player, however, I immediately get annoyed. Had one game where a demonhost was in the path directly in front of us, but the path to the left and right were clear. Someone ran in, triggered the host, and ran back to the rest of us. We were trying to manage it AND all of the enemies around. Flamers, muties, a hound, and a mauler all at once. What ended up killing us is a trapper took out the ogryn and the horde closing in made it impossible for any of us to get in and revive him without being interrupted. The guy that alerted the host said that we suck and that we are terrible for not helping him more with the host when the loss could have been avoided ENTIRELY just by waiting an extra 20 seconds at most for us to clear out the special enemies. Always check with your team about the host unless you are absolutely certain you can solo it like Gregor Eisenhorn.

If you are a zealot or ogryn you dont need to keep pushing, the npc's will come to you. Stay close to your elite killers because if the veteran has to pull their melee weapon out to survive they cant kill the elites.
Also mind where you are in relation to enemies especially ogryns, I cannot use the lucius lasgun if there is a ogryn in my group, 6 of my 10 shots will be into the ogryn becuase they are somehow always in front of me taking the shot. melee has way more reach than you think use it and make sure your shooters have a clear line of fire to kill elites.

I always feel bad when I have to wander off because 2 or 3 other players aren't bothering to look for materials. I can't tell you how many malice or heresy missions where its like they think the game is on a countdown timer.
Teams that push all the time, when sometimes you just have to slow down and deal with the hoards around you. Same with teams who push and I (usually the Psyker) am still fighting a long stream of hoard/specials coming from behind.
I am a big proponent of pushing objectives, but if you leave your Psyker or Vet behind because they are fighting for their lives, your objective push was pointless. Move as a team. Whenever I play a class like my Preacher I always try to think, "Where would I want me to be if I was the back line guy?"
Ogryns and Preachers who are CONVINCED they need to spend the entire match shooting things when I as a Vet or Psyker need you up front not in the back with me.

I can guarantee you, the only reason why you still find a team on damnation difficulty is because the people cannot block you.

I could use some advice here.
I'm an Ogryn, and early on a Vet told me that I was blocking their shots. I didn't want to get in the way, so I got me a Stubber and a Rumbler and started providing backline support (Artillery, Horde-breaking, suppression, you know), sometimes I rush in to help, Lead the Charge or reposition, but I'd always be keepin' an eye on my teammates. This was good for awhile, especially since I could easily shoot over the lil' uns. But mid-way through a damnation mission another Vet said I wasn't being aggressive enough. Said that seeing Ogryns hanging back with a stub left a bad taste in their mouths. Made me feel like I wasn't a real Ogryn. So I tried to be more aggressive. Pushed forward whenever I could, always swinging and only going back to help someone or grab some loot. I was worried this was going to get me killed or make my team mad, but it all worked out in the end and the Vet said I did a good job.
Now I don't know what to do.

      @rustybobdotca Год назад +4

If a veteran isn't good enough to shoot around you, then that's a shitty veteran, and you shouldn't listen to them.
But as someone whose been playing as an Ogryn for a couple of weeks now, and doing quite well on Damnation, I will say, you also can't be too aggressive either. On Damnation, it really seems like the gunners are always shooting at you, and that can quickly wipe out your toughness, which will then quickly wipe out your health.
I've found that the Genadier Gauntlet to be the best weapon for the Ogryn in Damnation. You can take out snipers and other gunners at a distance if you need to, you can one-shot a lot of enemies at close range, you can take out and/or stagger hordes, you stagger Bulwarks, which makes it easy for your teammates to finish off the kill, and it is pretty ammo efficient, especially for the amount of damage it does.
But what I've found really makes or breaks the Ogryn on Damnation is the melee weapon. At first, I was using only the shield and maul, and very much wasn't playing aggressively, so that I could use the shield to not get shot. But my roommate, who I play Dark Tide with, let me know about the Confident Strike blessing. That allows you to quickly regenerate toughness, which allows you to play much more agressively. On Damnation low-intensity, I can use any melee weapon with the Confident Strike blessing. On standard Damnation, I usually use either the bull butcher cleaver, or the shield and maul. With how quickly you can swing the bull butcher, you can take gun fire and possibly not lose any health. If you know how to properly use the shield and maul, and you are almost always in coherency, you can slay with it.

I don't know if its just my games lately or anyone else has experienced this, but something happens to players, even high level ones where their brain just "shuts off" when someone goes down to a sniper. Inevitably, someone else will wonder over, WITHOUT dealing with the sniper and try to revive the downed player, resulting in them getting sniped too...and then...you guessed it, the THIRD player will mosey on over and do the SAME. Now three people are on the ground in a snipers sight line. I've seen it happen enough times that a sniper in certain maps especially during the end game sequence fills me with absolute dread. Doubly if i notice my team doesn't prioritize taking them down. (The never tag them either)
The other one is not getting the trapper net off a downed teammate, it takes half a second and theyre immediately up and fighting. People will chase a trapper to the end of the level before getting the net off you.

Rushing ahead and not sticking around are fine provided you follow a few rules.
    1. You're doing it for the purpose of speeding up the run by gathering materials from side paths, not because you want to pad your stats. Not because you're trying to force a speed run. Basically it's so your team doesn't need to check side paths for materials. If you're doing this you should be branching off and meeting back up with the group constantly.
    2. It's during a quiet period. No elite/specials on board as far as you know. No horde. No one's fighting anything and there's no horde in coming and no unaccounted for spawned specials.
    3. You're not going so far that it'll take a long time for you to get back to your team (or your team to get to you). You should be close enough that your team can help you if you get disabled or yoiu can help the team if you see them in trouble. Also if your team has to wait for you, you messed up.
    4. You're good enough not to get downed/disabled while on your own on that difficulty level. It's much different going out on your own in a regular Malice vs a HISG Damnation. Know your skill level.
    5. You return to the team as soon as you can SAFELY when you hear a horde spawn, a disabler spawn, see a group of enemies you'll have trouble with, or you see any of your team struggling. Safely is a keyword. If you hear a trapper/dog spawn, head back towards your team but keep on high alert for them.

Ive seen one guy get voted off because he wandered off and we were waiting in a lift for him. We even went back to get him to follow us and he ignored us. Only then was he dropped. I know people get lost, thats a given ( done it myself) but ignoring help there isnt really an excuse for.

Hi, New player here and I'd like to thank you for this video. Not to mention I should apologise for committing some of the "sins" herein myself (namely holding on to my grenades/ med crates until "We really need them")....old habits die hard, I'm working on this.
Other than that.. Never knew materials were shared until I heard it mentioned in a random stream I was watching, so felt bad about looting everything myself.
Didn't know about flashlights....not that I've ever met a demonhost yet, as I only play at lvl2 atm, but very important info for the future.
I hate rushers, and not just in this game.... imo speed running is for pre-made teams, not random. Like I said, it sucks being a new player and trying to learn the game when you have to spend most of it just sprinting out of stam (Ogryn main here) trying to keep up with the little 'uns as they disappear over the horizon. Not to mention I now have to constantly stop and fight the chasing packs solo as I can't outrun them.
I'm all about team play, that's why I bought a co-op PvE game....I simply don't understand why so many people want to try and play it like it's a single-player run & gun? Like, there are plenty of those around, and they lend themselves to competitive speed running far better than Darktide.

Covered pretty much ALL of my frustrations of playing quick plays.
Wish more darktide players would see this.

I had a lot of trouble having tag on it’s own button. Met with immediate success and huge effectiveness boost from binding it to the fire button. Most games nobody complains but occasionally I’ll meet someone who has the tag build but not tag bound to fire, and he will be a Karen.

Besides players who dont tag specials, my 2 most hated players are trash talkers and ammo wasters.
Trash talkers are infuriating through their personality and reluctance to support and save teammates in a game where teamwork is valued.
Ammo wasters, of course, waste and hoard ammo. They also refuse to switch to melee to block and push, taking damage and wasting health kits and med stations.

Ah yes, the COD-Genji-I-Need-Healing-I-Am-The-Hero-Of-This-Story archetype of potato players. My team in comms usually decide to leave this person to his own devices. We (3 of us) just agree to let them live their main hero story and let them solo - if they can push through great! if they go down... lets just say we... forget to revive them for sometime..

Blowing up barrels near your teammates especially on narrow bridges.
Not focusing on a tagged monster or clearing the other hordes around it and wandering off and dragging in more enemies before the plaque ogrins are killed.

I love this video because it points out the MAJOR issues with a lot of players that leave people or groups behind. There is literally a mechanic to stay together to make missions easier. This happens way too often then it should.

What bugs me the most is all the people who rush to med stations and use them immediately in auric +, and then proceed to die in the same area and used the heals before necessary. Same goes for ammo, if your not greedy (and your team isnt) you can heal and rearm AFTER everything is dead, and be 100% moving into the next area.

    • @flailmail7069
      @flailmail7069 6 месяцев назад

Same goes for the teammates who drop ammo/med crates outside of objective areas theyre intended for (finales, etc) You rarely ever need them outside of the hard areas, if your going to die just die and save the resource, you will respawn.

@@Amoogus oh I have. Had an Ogryn who kept helping allies up and then cancelling the instant they were about to get up, then start helping again before anyone could do it for real. Then they'd dance around in front of an elevator for minutes at a time before we could progress. Took all the ammo even if he'd just shot like three or four bullets. Then wouldn't get into the extraction point at the end.

Its wild how this video was made a year ago yet so many of these things still ring true. My major complaints are people who dont prioritize ammo. If I or someone else is playing veteran, and you dont give them first dibs at the ammo, thats active sabotage. But even worse in my eyes are those teammates that REFUSE to use any of the resources. Never picking up ammo despite being in the red or not picking up healing despite being injured. Idc if youre only missing 1 wound, if we're at the point of no return just take the damn medicae! If you go down, im directly punished, not only in the match but also by having to repeat the "dont have a teammate that goes down" contract from sire melk. Now i cant get the weapon i wanna rip the blessing out of because you wanna be dumb??

As a psyker main. Please consider the following:
As a psyker, you have to manage peril. If your peril goes over a certain rate. You will blow up. So it really, really, really bothers me. When Im brain-bursting a special mob like a bulwark, or rager. Only for the team Im in to ammo dump on it. Im left with 40% or 30% peril, and that stacks per failed brain-burst. And channelling leaves me in the open when im trying to drain it. Its a massive disadvantage for me because when Im doing that. Its usually in the middle of being horde rushed. So I get ripped apart while my team runs ahead of me. Ending with me getting downed. I cannot explain why the hell they enjoy doing that, but for some fucked reason Its what gets me killed.

  • @Reddotzebra
    @Reddotzebra 8 месяцев назад

As a new player my experience has basically been that up until level 10 you find some people that do this while the majority of the team sticks together like rats around a pole.
At or above level 10 you basically load into a level and see your entire team race car in front of you through the first, generally enemy-free areas and then spread out all over the place.
If you struggle to keep up with them, they will not care, if you get intercepted by enemies and have to stop or slow down to kill them all, they will not care, if you dodge or back off a cliff, they will generally not even recognize this. Probably because your wound bar is not yet red.
The second they actually do anything is if you get downed or if a trapper hits you, probably because they all recognize that A: Trappers are bad and need to die. And B: They would hate it if that happened to them.
Edit: Also the tagging thing, at the start of the game I actually had a much easier time doing my job of blowing up the brains of snipers and other elites because people actually tagged them, but the second you start getting the smurf crowd, they just bullet hose everything that moves and then complain that they are out of ammo.
I'm actually kind of afraid to reach level 30 and try the higher difficulty maps for loot.
