I remember the xPeke and double TP plays... the nostalgia of the old map actually hit me earlier today as well, I found an old vod from when I participated in SummonerSchool back in 2014, god it's been a crazy journey in League.
I remember xpeke's backdoor. It was first LoL esport game I watched (live or not). No wonder I sticked to it. I also remember how disgusted and angry I was when the new map went out, I thought I'll stop playing the game. 😀
Find someone who love you as much Kobe love CLG
Omg what a nostalgia trip! Glad we are taking time to commemorate great decision making and tactics, and not only personal skill and insane reactions.
People mustve forgot that Backdoor use to be call xPeke, Lee Sin kick enemy team into your team was called Insec, And thresh hook was call madlife. It was a long time ago. I miss those days.
pretty sure most people still call lee kick insec
@@Simpon Most people also call backdoors Xpeke as a meme still
I don't think people have forgot it's just been awhile and I wouldn't assume people would call every backdoor xpeke or every thresh hook madlife.
the prediction hook was called madlife, if you predict a flash/dash, madlife hit a hook on ezreal and he channeled it before ezreal arcane shifted, after that every prediction hook was called madlife.
Also the TF ult into Gold card stun into zhonyas being the misaya.
Or just outplaying someone makes you faker.
More videos like this please! It was great to see Kobe talk about League's history!
Amazing video. Kobe absolutely needs to do more of these in this format!
6:50 man doa/monte casting LCK was such a vibe. I miss those two so much.
The perfect synergy: Monte with all the hot takes fresh from the oven and Doa the calm, responsible guy in the background who is always so cheerful. Yes, Monte wasn't always right, but I miss casters who had strong opinions about the game. Doa is such a great commentator and host in other e-sports as well, now. Such a professional.
@@nilsp9426 i know it's more complicated than this, but I genuinely think LS and Monte added a necessary edge to casting and their ilk deserves a spot at the caster table.
Loved this video. I hope you do many more videos in the future.
I think the most insane play I've seen is xPeke on Syndra faking out the enemy team by pretending to be doing baron and then instant turning when they overcommit
Such a wholesome guy, love Kobe!
Love Kobe man! Great clips! Was a little surprised not to see the Faker x Ryu clip tho
Yeah Kobe hype!!!!
The arrow will always been the hypest moment for me, but that double TP was so unexpected watching that live
In my honest opinion, Kobe's casting of CLG, and their Iconic calls is one of the highlights of the entire Esport, and one of the big draws to CLG in particular.
I can best compare those moments to the best of Baseball Radio: David on the Mariners, the host of Iconic callsmen for the Yankees, or seeing an NFL caster watch their old team win the Super Bowl. Its that same feeling of near numinous excitement. That same feeling of faith that was sorely testing being rewarded.
wow these are so nostalgic great list lol
I think the first most quintessential viral play was not the xPeke, but the Empire, back when M5 was still team Empire. But of course, the meaning and how the xPeke has stood the test of time, and how everyone yells xPeke nowadays whenever they try to pull a backdoor, reminiscent of how everyone screams Kobe (not this Kobe, the other Kobe) whenever shooting a fadeaway, that makes xPeke way more iconic.
Was expecting more innovative and pre-meditated 5head plays like the original Empire (Moscow 5 before they changed to said team name) or CLG running 5 teleports at Season 2 Worlds.
They're plays sent in by viewers I think, and I doubt many people even know about the examples you gave, that's probably why.
Kobes iconic line is "That TP SUCKED"
Fakers' play on Zed is, for me, the most influential play of all time.
One play that wasn't mentioned that I remember is 2021 LCS Spring Finals C9 cheese in game 5. Definitely could deserve a spot in this list.
Could you explain this? I love me some C9 plays
@@thedustysaint2226 i think this started with a dead sion stealing enemy buff
I'm glad the play I'd have picked for uber galaxy brain play made it into this video... even if only as the after credits clip. The kindred ult to deny smite on what would have been 5th dragon for RNG was SOOOO giga brain.
This is SUCH a fun video, and I love seeing old content and kind of looking at it through a modern eye and reminiscing. We need more videos like this in the off-season please!!
love u Kobe!!
Seeing xPeke as a play option in the list, I actually assumed it was a clip of his impeccable kiting lol
The only league event I’ve ever been to in person was SKT VS ROX in MSG and I went alone because my friend was sick… he’s beyond tilted that it ended up being one of the best series’ ever.
Random and unrelated but can someone tell me what kind of headphones Kobe is using? I don't recognize them.
Only filthy casuals think that's the smartest play Fanatic pulled aginast SK. Real fans remember the clairvoyance play where they got first blood by baiting candypanda on bottom lane. That will never be matched as straight up clever play.
Also worth pointing out that SK got rekt again by another legendary clever play form that era, the "empire", where Gosu baited 3 SK players into a nunu ulti that combined with a karthus ult form Alex resulted in 3 kills out of nowhere.
Came here for the cv play
Omg I can imagine CFlowers burning his hands with tea and holding his voice with the pog face lmao
9:17 gotta be a true sage's words.
I feel like half the video was the title, and half was QnA XD
Shocked that Hai sneaking around as Zed isn't one of the picks, especially after it came up in the video?
I disagree heavily on the arrow - I feel like it's very easy to fall into the mindset of "I'm pushing, I'm pushing" and forget that you in fact are the one that can stop the port, and then to nail it from a full map away, I'd give that one more credit
And as for the double TP, they're not EXACTLY at the same time, you can tell by the arrivals, one is distinctly before the other, but they line up nicely so it's kinda seamless; and we've seen double TPs since, but that was legit the first time I've seen it in pro play? So I understand it catching Piglet off guard
The Hai sneaking around would probably be there had it worked. Unfortunately he was barely spotted and died instead...
@@jondahl8691 ah, to paraphrase an adage, "if it looks smart, but it doesn't work, it's not smart"? 😅 ...that's just results-based analysis, I'd argue it's a really smart play to go for, and then if it works or not is a separate issue... but their call, not mine, I guess 😅
yeah the double tp was not entirely exactly at the same time but yes it was the first ever double tp from as far as i could remember and it was such a gigabrain move at that time. nowadays i think its used a lot more often but because of that, people are more observant about multiple tps coming in
Revolta's Lee Sin x EDG could be an honorable mention
Personally I felt Hotshot/CLG is the poineer before their time. They got insanely good strategy concept but failing so hard on execution. There was one time in the world group stage they used teleport to tower dive bot for the first time ever before it was standard call
Would have loved to see the Empire play on this list! It's a very obvious play now but at the time it was completely unexpected and the combo was almost perfectly timed
Now you mention the Empire, Misaya could find a place here too, no? As the ultimate bait play
@@sunnyhvar1992 Yea that would've been a good one too
Whats really missing is Bwipos 1 v 1 Tournament Rengar performance, where he runs back on 40% Hp and kills his Enemy in his Ulti. That was really clever!
Ik this play was relatively new but it should be added cuz its so gigabrain.
Im talking about peanut jungle pathing vs kdf as poppy.
he was the first one to pull it off, and he literally made the meta. Poppy started being played alot in pro play after he showed everyone how good she is.
what did he do? like, whats the context.
@@ccece6938 (blue team) took red, flashed into dragon pit and then went round to the bush by bot lane tower. then hexflashed over the wall to gank
@@Arucan oh wow. who was this against?
@@ccece6938 KDF
and the funny thing in this play is when she used her E for vision they saw that poppy took only the red. you can see how they started question mark pinging in the minimap.
The xPeke is the primordial galaxy brain play.
this list lacks RGE play where sona teleported top with taric ultimate to save j4. it was galaxy brain for sure
Oh the general what a nostalgia trip
CARLOS BACKDOORED LMFAOOOOOOO
xPekes backdoor is Moment 37 for LoL.
Was surprised not to see any TF teleports into zhona's in here. Misaya should be bigger brain than random soaz teleports or pathing around kalista wraiths.
Captain Flowers and medic are the best play by play casters in the game right now
Missing the real OG galaxy brain play, SK vs Fnatic's clairvoyance bait. Only the true league boomers will remember
Marin's teleport to stall the wave vs CJ Entus should be on the list... LCK Spring 2015 playoffs, game 4, down 1-2, 52 minutes in. Saves the game 1v5 and SKT goes on to win the game and the series.
0/10 horrendous list.
Oh dang I was expecting the Xmithie Kindred dragon steal vs RNG on here. Where he ulted the dragon so RNG couldn't kill it.
SK not sending Elise back while xpeke was backdooring is so depressing to look at. He would've killed him in one single Q.
I think Kobe is correct in rating the others low even if you can argue they are the "better plays". Fantastic instinct/mechanics are what are displayed in a lot of these clips and I think there are still much more big brain plays out there. For instance, that CLG team was quite insane with their comeback against RNG at MSI. In particular, Kindred ulting the dragon to prevent RNG from getting fifth stack.
Why soaz getting caught out and TP'ing out is a big brain play, I'll never know lol
Sure feel sad not being around when those hyped games happened!
2 TP's at the same time?!!!! NO WAY!
Kinda disappointed that the fabled Faker vs Ryu Zed battle was not here tbh.
Cmon guys, how is the clairvoyance bait of S1 worlds not in there??
Why give yourself a nightmare task? Impossible isn't nothing. Long time fan.
Missing the OG 5head play that was the Clairvoyance play in the first worlds. Then again, probably too long ago for most league fans.
yeah these were clips sent in by fans so not at all surprising, even season 2, 3 and 4 worlds are for certain in the minority as far as people that remember those compared to the current playerbase/fanbase. season 5 is really when things started picking up with a lot of today's league playerbase
backdoored nexus as Kassadin vs OLAF my oh my what a play
Thought the Mikyx Bard play would be on here
Definitely make a video like this but then the biggest brain draft ‘plays’
Since the day it happen I still say that you can tell it was a double TP cause the animation widens and Piglet should of backed off.
Where’s Tarzan’s backward Evelyn ult into ward to back door end the game
I actually think the biggest brain play of all time is when in eu some1 tp'ed top with taric ult on him and literally made his top that got dove stay alive and get a kill
I miss doa, monte, joe miller and deman. They are lol casting league of legends. Joe miller is especially such an esports og.
@Bork0r Yeah, hearing Deman's "I do not believe it!" in the Xpeke clip was such a nostalgia trip. And of course who could forget Joe "Joe Miller" Miller.
Man, I'm gonna have to go rewatch some of those old VODs now. TSM Baylife, Rush Hour...so much just came flooding back with this video!
I kinda expected to see the Empire in the list.
Season 3 4 5 golden era also the era where I watched it so that’s pretty much why I say this
wtf how is the tower in soaz escape already dead
already at 1:00 its not exact. Its clearly not exact. But back then TP looked weird and it would sometimes look like that even when it was just one person
Where is Faker vs Ryu Zed showdown?
Soaaaaz is a god !
Misplay by Bengi.
proceeds to get stomped by Marin all 3 games
I have always been a cynic about the double TP play against Piglet. That isn't some crazy thing nobody had ever done before, but really a mistake on Piglet for being overconfident in thinking he could handle whoever was on the other end of the TP
The xPeke clip is just objectively misplaced.
Of course it was a great play, but it was actually more about execution. Highlights before this point were mostly "why DON'T I do that myself?" rather than "Yeah, I just CAN'T do that" and this was notable (not only but also) because it bucked that trend.
The setup of the play was pretty bigbrained, but the way it was cut here this is 0 brain, all hands.
The double TP is quite visible imo, you see half a second later or so the 2nd cast / animation start. I mean sure during a game it could be oversight but honestly it's visible
Sad there is not the Meteos 67 minutes Lee Sin kick
Huhi double teleport is a bit over-rated as giga-grain because in an interview they said it wasn't planned at all. They just both independently thought to teleport there at the same time and chose the same minion.
this is literally made up lol, pro teams would literally never have two players just randomly commit their TP to targets of their own choice without agreeing in comms
what actually happened is that darshan called that he could TP and look for piglet, and huhi said his TP was up as well so he could go in with darshan at the same time, and the funniest thing is that xmithie was actually against the play initially because he thought it was a huge risk to commit both teleports like that against a gigafed piglet (if he had put down multiple traps or if he had just backed off to the safety of his turret, this would have backfired horribly for CLG, but they correctly guessed that he would go for the outplay and kill the TP user)
Man I thought Kobe Bryant somehow got ressurected just to rate these plays lmao
the most galaxy brain of all time is def skt vs edg 10k gold behind wombo combo
holy yes. i rmb that was what made skt skt - the fact that they have literal 2000 iq plays to win back unwinnable games, for multiple worlds.. insane
fakers zed vs Ryu zed should probably be in this list
yeah even i saw that double tp. for a pro team not that clean
What about Faker Zed vs Zed, oh look at the moves, look at the moves... that was the smartest play :D
3:28 the real question is how is top tower down when the champions are only lvl 4
Lane swap meta. Blue team's bot tower is also already gone
@@nussbuss379 ok, but even in a 2v1 getting tower by lvl 4 would be impossible nowadays, even if platings werent a thing, did towers have less health back then?
I don't think towers were that much weaker, but they didn't have any early game defense bonus. I think at this point the meta was double jungling and 4v0 early pushes.
Basically, the top laner wouldn't bother going to lane, cus he'd either get completely denied or dove. Tops would just help their jungler clear instead. There were no early wards available, so teams opted to invade as four and trade buffs and towers on opposite sides of the map, rather than risk getting set behind.
Riot eventually added early defense bonuses to top and mid towers for the first 5 mins and that killed the meta.
🐷
Kind of a lame list tbh not a lot of actual high iq plays
I mean none of these really seemed incredible enough to put on the "SMARTEST Plays of All Time" list tbh. seemed more like pandering to western audience
of course the stupidest caster ranks the smartest plays, makes sense.
What
why?
what are you smoking I´m even a EU fanboy and I think Kobe is great
Sounds like someone is projecting because they are mad that Kobe is so good smh
