it's because of that mechanical hard drive i stopped using my 160gb classic. It stopped working because the disk was damaged. Now all I have is spotify premium. i miss my ipod classic though and those good old torrent days.
I bought a custom refurb classic off eBay (UK) a few weeks ago. New battery and a 256gb transflash fitted. Battery lasts ages between charges, and I swear files transfer faster. Oh, and it's gold-coloured, front and back. Awesome-sauce.
Bart Back cover looks like real gold plate, front is a matt gold paint. yeah, looks well bling. I just felt like being saucy. I keep it hidden in my pocket in Brixton high Street, I can tell you!
I now have solid sate in my iPods 2nd gen - 5th gen. I'll be upgrading my 6th gen this summer. I use CompactFlash in gens 2-4, and iFlash SD adaptors in gen 5+
Got my Ipod Classic from my brother when he returned from service in Afghanistan, i was a kid back then and thought it was the coolest thing. 11 years later i still have it and use it regularly, though the battery seems a bit stubburn now. For me it's the definition of a quality product.
I learned a lot in only 3 minutes. It's easy to forget that the first iPods didn't have a clickwheel, just like the first touchscreen phones didn't have multitouch.
i absolutely love my 160gb ipod classic, after years of use i lost it like one month ago, but i got lucky and bought one used in perfect condition to a teenager that sold it for $40 because "it was old as fuck" XD, he saved me for buying one for $150+ on amazon
I have found a couple of 4th generations on ebay for a decent price and got myself one. I also even bought one at a garage sale for $1 although the battery was so swole that I couldn't press the center button. Nothing but a battery replacement job that could handle.
Loved my iPod classic. I wish they did create a revamped version with flash memory, USB C connection, and Bluetooth support. Maybe wifi for very simple things like weather, and iCloud syncing of contacts, music, playlists, and calendars- but no browser or app store. I miss the simplicity of a touch wheel interface.
I recently bought an iPod 5.5 and took out the HDD!! replaced it with a flash/SD adaptor and now I can add SD cards! it lasts longer on battery power! works very speedy! and Apple said they stopped because of sourcing old hack moving parts drives???
Absolutely fantastic video. You really have an awesome way of showing off some of the best Apple Products from the past. Keep up the awesome videos!! Now I'm off to ebay to try and track down a mint iPod classic to satisfy my need for nostalgia lol.
Nice! I do love my 6th gen 80GB silver that I bought at a used goods store (and have synced to the larger iTunes library on my Mac mini server), and my sister still has her 5th gen 30GB white that she bought new back in the day.
It’s very sad iPod classic doesn’t exist anymore. R.I.P. legendary device with unbelievable battery life and storage. The best music player ever. I still have an ipod classic after all those three years, when I bought it from an second-hand store, one year after Apple stopped the production. Still works perfectly fine, it can be still fully charged even after playing 30-40 songs in a row, when the battery starts to drain.
Too bad Amazon wants $400 for one of those, my old iPod nano is dying on me, the click wheel is broken it takes ages to charge and it doesn't hold a charge that well and it's scratched everywhere
I love my ipod classic 160. Had some crook stole it in my college years ..but lucky enough to buy back one in new n fine condition just a couple of days back. Felt like I got back my lost dream. Never gonna lose him again
Nice work Stephen. I remember my 5th generation iPod classic fondly. It stayed in my car and survived many super cold winters here in Winnipeg before finally giving up the ghost in 2009, just in time for me to get my first iPhone.
Research questions for my new book. Was it possible to listen to the 3rd gen without headphones? I read that it had a battery life of about 8 hours. Does this sound right?
I always get so angry when people forget the iPod mini existed. I was telling my friend about my iPod mini and they said "so you have an original iPod?" I said, "no an iPod mini." And they said "so... an iPod nano?" And I said "no, its the one in between those two" it's just so annoying.
Literally no one knows what the Mini is at all 😂 I have an iPod collection and when telling people about it they get confused when I mention the Mini. :(
Nice video! It really boosts the presentation that you have all these models in your possession to exhibit, and you exhibit them well both visually and in prose. I wish someone would give the Zune line of music players the same love. Is that something you'd be up for? I can see you're an Apple person, but once you've done all the iPods? Zune's are cheap on Ebay. I'd be really glad if you did! Please? Well, I'll give you the rundown, at least. OK? The Zune line of music players were on the market from 2006-2010. These are the models that were sold: For 2006: Zune 30, HDD player with 30gb, with two tone plastic finish. Available in black+blue, white, brown+green, pink and a limited edition magenta. Also a Halo 3 special edition. Used a d-pad For 2007: Zune 80, HDD player with 80gb, with aluminum & matte plastic finish. Available in black, and red. Zune 4/8, Flash players with 4 or 8gb, with aluminum & glossy/matte finish. Available in red, blue, green, pink & black. These second gen models could also be ordered from Microsofts own Zune Originals service, allowing for Artist engravings on the back, along with text engravings. Second gen Zunes had a touch pad/d-pad combo; A pad that allowed for scrolling and clicking, called the Squircle. 2008 saw a more incremental upgrade, with the 80 getting a 120 variant with a glossy plastic front, and a 16gb flash variant only available in black. New software features were introduced, but rolled back all the way to the Zune 30 as well. In 2009 came the Zune HD, a flash player available in 16 & 32gb capacities. This player dropped the Squircle for a touch screen. The player came in silver and black, but was available exclusively in red, blue, green & purple via Zune Originals. If you're only willing or able to exhibit one Zune, make it this one! It's got a gorgeous OLED screen, with a minimalist interface that takes advantage of those deep blacks. It outputs 720p via a dock, and can be used as a home theatre using the remote control that comes with the dock. It has a handy secondary homescreen with visual shortcuts to your newest and your most recently added content, as well as 10 slots you can use for shortcuts to your own favorites. It is, in my opinion the best of an era of standalone music players, unfortunately released too late, by which time standalone was not enough. For a basic exhibit, you'd want to get hold of a Zune 30, a 80/120, a flash based one, and a Zune HD. Thanks for reading this post, and good luck to you going forward with your channel, whatever you decide to do.
I know about the "iPod +hp" and the fact that HP preloaded iTunes on their Pavilion PCs around that time, but didn't know (until I saw your comment) that there was a Harry Potter iPod.
i THOUGHT i had the iPod classic for a while but i realized i have the 3rd gen nano. they look similar, minus the size. could you do a comparison video between the two? love your videos by the way
Apple always made the 4th generation the best generation. I used iPod 4. After this one, I used iPod Touch 4, then iPhone 4s, then iPad Mini 4. And that's the end of the 4's.
*_I've got the IPOD Touch 4G & still use it today. In 2018! Still works well, for music that is, APPS suck & don't work, but that's okay. That's what my Phone & Tablet are used for. But, my little IPOD Touch works well for traveling on Planes & in Cars to where NO Internet is needed._*
I still have my 5th and 7th gen iPods and I love them! Apple screwed it all up by giving the iPod a touch screen and WiFi bullshit. You can't work it while its in your pocket either because it has no physical buttons (other than home.)
Why didn't you mention the late 2009 model? Would that be the 7th generation ipod classic? I'm trying to figure out what generation mine is... So, would mine be 7th generation then?
Me too! Though I'm trying to backup and rework the iTunes library on my Mac mini server (which my 6th gen classic syncs with) to focus on my inkling that I have for country (mainly swing) music and "easy listening" music, as well as my previous favourite pop songs. Currently, it's just all the old music CDs that my sisters gave to me, plus my old favourite pop songs and every song I purchased on the iTunes Store.

Ivo Sotirov TIM!!! you did this
Ivo Sotirov O
I'm confused on Amazon it says there is a 7th generation but the video never mentioned a 7th gen

Apple should have kept the iPod Classic and just make the switch to ssd instead of a mechanical hard drive.
I agree!
it's because of that mechanical hard drive i stopped using my 160gb classic. It stopped working because the disk was damaged. Now all I have is spotify premium. i miss my ipod classic though and those good old torrent days.

blondy2061h You can tweak it with Tarkan adapters & RockBox software. 😎

+Gibson Weasel My white 5th gen is the same. It's amazing.
I never had a classic but my first iPod ever was the Mini from early 2004. I loved that thing!
I'm the proud owner of the u2 special edition, and it stills work! This video brought back so many memories, ipods were the best back then
1:48 The very first time I came to know about Apple’s existence.
Excellent, thank you for this lovely tour through iPod history and evolution.
Absolutely fantastic video. You really have an awesome way of showing off some of the best Apple Products from the past. Keep up the awesome videos!! Now I'm off to ebay to try and track down a mint iPod classic to satisfy my need for nostalgia lol.
+Mike Peters Thanks and good luck!
Please do one for ipod touch! I want to know more about ipod touch history!
It basically became sad and irrelevant after the 4th one
I got the last one, black, and still use it today. I'll never leave him...
Abyssinian I need to get one before the price gets crazy
They're still pretty cheap on amazon
i found a 160 GB one for $200
@@dctmatt As of today, I grabbed a 4th generation on eBay for 40 bucks, so there's still time left.
I bought a 160GB iPod Classic at a yard sale last summer for ten dollars. The immense capacity alone makes it easily worth the price.
Kevin Huang That's a deal ! Was it broken ? 😮🤔
David Bolha Nope! I formatted it and it works perfectly fine!
Kevin Huang You can always try RockBox or some of Tarkan's Flash adapters, if you want to upgrade. 😊
Still have my ipod classic 5tg gen. It's still working!
This is the Best ipod's evolution video in the RUclips
iPod video and classic were great for their time
Nice! I do love my 6th gen 80GB silver that I bought at a used goods store (and have synced to the larger iTunes library on my Mac mini server), and my sister still has her 5th gen 30GB white that she bought new back in the day.
The ipod classic was the best
I think the iPod video (5th gen) is the most popular one and my personal favorite👌🔥
I have a 7th Gen.
5.5 Gen.
I also have the 5.5 gen and i love that iPod, i use it all days like 2 hours & battery still perferc

be careful with connecting and disconnecting batteries.
I still use my 160GB Classic today and works great! I have a tiny Bluetooth adapter for it and my BOSE wireless earbuds = 👍🏻

Well, I'll give you the rundown, at least. OK?
The Zune line of music players were on the market from 2006-2010.
These are the models that were sold:
For 2006:
Zune 30, HDD player with 30gb, with two tone plastic finish. Available in black+blue, white, brown+green, pink and a limited edition magenta. Also a Halo 3 special edition. Used a d-pad
For 2007:
Zune 80, HDD player with 80gb, with aluminum & matte plastic finish.

+Ramone Bills they goofed around with prices and capacities several times but the core device didn’t change
Great video 👍
plus, with apple music, i for one don t have what music to sync on the ipod.
Why are you still at 12k?
They could have switched to flash storage, the homebrew people have already done it
Was u2 ever good?

Can you do a "the history of the iPod touch" video please?
Note for Apple: Put an SSD in your iPods and start selling them again! We need MP3 players in the world, and a device for the kids!
Seemed like you commented more on U2's relationship with Apple than the product itself when you got to the U2 iPod.
It’s too weird not to.
But the video was focused on the product.
That annoying silver back made it soo easy to scratch and drops its value significantly
I'm happy with my 4.5 [60Gb], 5.5 [80Gb], and 6.5 [7?] [160Gb] Classics. I want to upgrade them all with SSDs and better batteries..
0:33 staccato lol
Idk why but I want one
Apple should bring back the ipod classic!
what would be the point of that the iPhone and iPad can do everything the ipod can do so bringing it back would be pointless
Why are these so expensive still tho wtf
