Lol well my CIC version hardly works, always cutting in and out and currently not even working sooo.
Funny how similar this stuff all is. If you can do it on a e46 you can do it on almost any other BMW. It looks overwhelming, but it's rather easy.
The MMI box is all the same -- just from different vendors.
Great vid. A few questions:
1/ Did you encounter any bugs so far? Did anything work unstable, disconnects etc?
2/ where does the iPhone connects wirelessly to? It connects to BMW stock radio and this unit is just hijacking it or I have to disconnect iPhone Bluetooth from BMW and connect it directly to this box ?
3/ are phone calls normally handled ? (Related to the question of where does the iPhone connects to via Bluetooth?)
Thank you so much for the tutorial brother! I just installed mine’s today on my 528i and it is looking fantastic and modern. Note, Wireless carplay has a little delay with music, but it’s still not bad. Wired on the other hand works very well. Make sure to change the reverse settings from Aftermarket to Original if you are using your factory camera.

@@Charly-vt6wq In fact, different BMW iDrive (CCC, CIC, NBT, EVO), the MMI box is different, if your 528 i is CIC (4 pin video connector), then order CIC model; if NBT, then order NBT (with 6 pins Video connector).

Thanks for a great video. Still debating on trying this for my 2016 750. Apple Car Play come from factory on my 2017 X5 and it only uses half the screen, no way to put in full screen unless you buy an upgrade. And kind of the same thing for the next or previous song fine. It just doesn’t show that.
Hi Evan! Thank you for the video. I have a question, but i don't know, maybe you know this. I have CIC with a factory rear displays. And on the rear seats multimedia i have an options to watch DVD or external front AUX, or rear left AUX, or rear right AUX. What do you think, is it possible in my case to see the image from this device on rear screens also, if i will choose front AUX for the rear screen in settings?
Also, is it possible to watch some video with this device, while driving the car? Thank you!
I did this to my 2014 F12. Love it. What is the purpose of the USB connector? Is that just for charging?

I installed this in my f10, the manufacturer was Andream, and the product was rubbish on Android Auto mode. Wireless connection very slow and each time you connect, you have to reset and reconnect the phone. Overall not worth it. Glad your one had no issues.
Is there anything like this available for the e46? I know there are the avin units and full head units, is there anyway to keep the stock screen and use analogue controlls for carplay etc, ive seen this done on old Mercs etc.

Thanks! But I have an important question. Does this also work for the Pre Facelift? I have an F01 2008 750I. I heard that the Main Wire Kabel in the Car that feeds all the Software in the whole Car is different compared to the Facelift ( 2013 - 2015) Models.. They changed a lot. I am really disappointed.. I wish I'd bought a Facelift F01. Now I wish to Upgrade my Car with a lot of Functions so I can Play You Tube in my Car.. Listening to Music via You Tube and so on. Connect my Phone with my Car without any Problems like Bluetooth . ( This doesn't even Work properly in my 2008 Modell) It's really disappointing and annoying. I want all these things inside my Car, like the Latest G12 Modell 7 Range has to offer. Even a High Resolution Navigation or Google Earth 🌎 on the Car Screen like in the newest Models. Is this possible? Or is there any Risc this Latest Technology will not work in my 2008 Modell? For you're Facelift Model it's easy.. The improved Software from Factory is already inside the Car.. Catch my drift?
I wasn't Focused and didn't listend well on you're Video.. You already said it's possible for any I Drive Generation 👍🏼👍🏼 CIC CCC NBT EVO and so on.
By the way.. I already have Rear and Front Cameras in my Car. Does Apple Car Play add the 3D 360 Degrees Camera View to it? Or will this only work with the Cameras from Apple Car Play?
Second thing is.. I am Using Android Phone.. Will it be 100% Compatible?

How come you didn’t show off wireless? If you use wireless does it take the Bluetooth connection or does it still have to use the aux connection? What happens if you receive or make a phone call with this set up?

@@javierdiaz5089 I can definitely recommend these they have a few quirks since there's no touch screen to get used to with controlling but the sound quality is great and it makes the car feel way less dated on the interior
Apple car play wasn't even released until 2014... I have a 2016 550i m-sport that's fully loaded and it doesn't have it.
@@2JJays I've seen cars before 2010 use Bluetooth for music. The f30 was a new generation of car, they had no excuse for not adding it to all their cars.
Would this work on a 2008 bmw e60 535i with ccc? The website stated that only cic, nbt, and nbt evo are compatible. Do you know? Also great video!

Update please get this system, I will never own another bmw without upgrading with this head unit box. Wireless CarPlay works seamlessly and you go back to your old interface with a press of the menu button.(not that I ever need to anymore) and the airplay feature is crazy!!!

@@rashomon2020 yes you can use the steering wheel, the center knob, or the radio buttons.
Automatically goes into the backup camera for reverse. Just select wether it’s a aftermarket backup camera or stock in the menu!

Hey what model car is this that you added to, I just bought a 2016 528i? Miss CarPlay had it in my last car. Also do the OEM telephone mics work with this or do I have to install a separate mic?
Hello, everything works fine, but when I play music, there is no sound. I used the aux by plugging a aux cord and I was able to play music, but the sound won’t come out in CarPlay. It’s a BMW GT 550i. How can you help please.

Great video thanks. I just installed it on my 2014 X3 with NBT. The only obstacle I had was the lack of space behind the main radio unit. I had to put the CarPlay box behind my screen and connect all the wires vertically. Even then it was still very hard to fit the quad connectors back there. Took a lot of time to get the radio back in. Also I ran the USB cable with an extension into the center console box using a flush mount port so it looks integrated. Total time was about 6 hours. Most of the time went to figuring out how to remove panels and put them back, etc.
I was also wondering what BMW app you’re using that shows on your CarPlay screen?
That icon just brings you back to your bmw interface

I am confused about one thing. Does the heads up display with your speed still work? Thanks for making the video. Definitely one of the best I have watched. My E60 has been in the dealership for a couple days and I was going to ask the BMW dealer about adding Apple Car Play..(my oil pump relay is sticking)
Yes the HUD still works, only music control is disabled. But you can actually connect your phone to original iDrive Bluetooth and use that as a source, you don’t need to use aux for the mmi. However, the steering wheel control may interfere with the HUD since it will control both mmi and HUD.
But what if you get a phone call with the phone connected to the mmi, but while listening to the FM of the OEM unit? Will I need to switch to AUX and Android auto first to be able to have a handsfree phonecall?

Hi, i have BMW F07 with CIC navigation but with bluetooth only for phone calls. Is it necessary to change the module or the device has its own bluetooth?
You need to change the module
I installed the CIC version on my 2013 650i. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be working as well as yours, mine cuts in an out and also sometimes just doesn’t work at all. I’ve put together and taken apart everything more then I would’ve like to and can assure everyone that my cables are securely connected. Sucks, for me ig.

Tape off that mic wire you left it bare so it could cause a short or noise allowed to enter the system

They both work great! You plug it in and select mirror link

thinking of doing this - how do you configure the dip switches? the instructions on the website for the product don't make perfect sense (i.e. they don't seem to fully explain what each code corresponds to)
You only need to touch, the display one, it’s pretty clear and comes with instructions

Evan - when you say "any backup camera will work", my next question is whether the brain for the camera feature is included in the CarPlay unit, so I just need to buy the camera for the trunk and cables etc., OR do I need to buy a "component/brain" for the camera as well? How do I buy these things so you get a commission? thanks for your help!!!
You only need the camera itself, the mmi box takes care of everything else since it’s connected to the can bus system it will know when you are in reverse.

I love the upgrade on my 2014 535, but my backup camera does NOT automatically switch when placed in reverse.
I have to MANUALLY switch over to the iDrive menu (by holding the menu button) before I could use the backup camera.
That’s my “1” and only issue with this unit.

I bought an Avin. It’s good so far. I’m still figuring it out. My car did not come with navigation system so I can’t use some things on it. It does not have fm radio either.
