No truer words have ever been spoken in “When a man loves a woman”. I have loved mine for 34 years and would give my life for her in a heartbeat.
The best love songs are painful. This is one of the greatest of all time.
This is one of those songs that comes on and everything else just stops. You don't want to miss a single note. It's a great song, but when Percy Sledge puts his emotion into it...perfection to the ear and heart.

Danced my first slow dance to this song when I was 13 years old, in the summer of 1966, at a birthday party of one of my school friends. Still brings me to tears today, and the memory of the emotions of that dance are still clear as a bell!

The only thing I didn't like about Michael Bolton...he said he never heard Percy Sledge do this song...

Fun Fact! This was the number one song here in the US the day I was born (5/29/66).
Mine is 5/28/66. I grew up listening to this song with my parents. Still touches me.
I was born in 1966 too. It's a blessing to still be able to reflect on memories when music was simple.

One of the greatest records ever made. Nobody could sing that song as wellas Percy. Nobody. Also Quinn Ivy was an honest and decent man who did not steal from Percy as far as I know.

Commercially directed, shit. That was produced to appeal to the mass markets, no virtuosity needed.
The producers used to say, go ahead, make mistakes. We'll just edit them out. We'll make you sound like, a million bucks.
That's why, we thought that, the music sucked.
There were stations like: WNEW FM, WLIR FM, and whoever had Album Oriented Rock formats, on New York radio where you still heard, REAL MUSIC.
Can you imagine writing such a powerful song and then find out she never did leave you. My god she must have been so heart moved to know those words came from her man! There's no way you could say "I love you" any more powerful than that! It just leave me dumbfounded.
She sounds like a narcissistic bitch. I mean, they were seeing each other, and she just fucked off to another city for a new job, WITHOUT telling Percy!
Either she was too stupid to care about his feelings, or she lied her ass off about the whole thing once the song made Percy famous, just to get her hands on that sweet money.
All women are the same. They don't ever love YOU. They just love what you can DO for THEM.

I myself love music alot. And when I listen to songs of people I meet and some songs reminds me of how I felt. Music to me like therapy, when I feel sad or down I listen to it.
I was born, raised and still live in Tuscumbia, Alabama. It sits right beside Muscle Shoals. I wasn't born when this came out but this song will never lose it's relevancy. We love Mr. Sledge and even named the street he lived on in Leighton, after him. There have been a lot of songs come out of Muscle Shoals but it isn't well known. The area still has it's "small town" feel and while you can find yourself a bit bored from time to time due to the lack of things to do, it has been a wonderful area to have lived in. Fits me perfectly. Kudos to the geniuses who put such a moving song together. It is timeless.
Born in Russellville, lived in Muscle Shoals til I was 12. I go back home at least once a year.

There will NEVER be a truer song written and no one can sing it with the feeling that Percy does. I've certainly been in this boat and You just can't understand how You can feel. this way about someone and they cheat on you behind your back. When you finally find out and confront them ,they act like it's no big deal. I told my son to just think about Adam and Eve. She had everything and STILL wasn't happy!

The same thing happened to me. But later I found out she had moved and given a letter to her brother and never gave be it to me. Years later. After we had a girlfriend and she had a boyfriend. We both had a family. I had a daughter and she had lik 4 kids.
We got together for a while. But we still friends till this day.
