i'm a simple man i see an ILM VFX breakdown and i click play.
this comment deserves an heart.❤❤❤ or three.
As is tradition
This is the way.
Soo happy to have worked on the VFX of Ahsoka, You guys rock
Thanks for being apart of bringing this all to life.
I love ILM. My cousin Michelle worked there years back. Ironically, her mother (my aunt) also managed Skywalker Ranch for decades.
Edit: ILM has some unbelievably talented folks working for them. Always fascinated to see their solutions to visual effects requirements.
Ashoka had the best visual effects of any live action Star Wars show. Awesome work by the team!
Andor would beg to differ, but yea it was great for sure
Andor was WAY better.
Ahsoka was okay. Kenobi looks horrificly cheap , and Andor was majestic on every aspect .
Andor looked great but was effin expensive. For the action sequences and aliens that ashoka did.
Don't get me wrong, andor is my fave too but ashoka had way more on it's plate and handled it really great.
The acolyte has also really great visuals. The sets are andor level 😍
@@KillerTacos54 wasn't andor mostly physical effects and such? Maybe a mix of both
Blue screened horses, were my big take-away. 🤯 Totally thought these were done 100% in post. Such good work, gang. 10/10
Weird timing that these”behind the scenes” videos are being released right as I started rewatching Ahsoka this week! The show really feels like full feature movie quality IMO. I know all of these Star Wars shows coming out mean different things for different people, but as a 50 year old who grew up with this universe, the stuff Dave is making feels the most accurate. Really excellent work to all that contributed to the series and looking forward to Season 2!
I've been following ILM's work for a long, long time. Because of the visuals you guys provide, I don't think any iteration of Stars Wars (cannon, or lore) would feel quite as intrinsic. It's the one thing that gives it that familiarity. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing this. 🙏🏽
Loved the Disney Gallery for Mando season one. Please do more roundtables for SW shows.
I like how they had mando in there for scale lol
The reflecting off of the armor can give them ideas for lighting too. That's probably why that's there. That's also why they use chrome balls on sticks on some sets
I've been a ILM fan for over 40 years. And they still amaze today.
Its rare to see the directors and vfx supervisors sitting together, and directors respecting and showing apreciating for the vfx guys so nice to see this
Sadly rare. We’ve forgotten the Jurassic Park paradigm where that communication and collaboration is consistent throughout the process, from early planning to final passes.
For whatever reason, the Hollywood pipeline has put so much distance between the practical and digital creatives, that VFX post work can feel separated from principal photography.
I think there may be a renaissance of the more collaborative process which clearly and demonstrably works best and, if so, that’s a great thing for filmmakers and audiences alike.
I had no idea the Howlers were actually horses. That is so cool.
Damn, forgot how good those wolf beasts were! Amazing work to the creative team
I love the model work to be honest. So dope.
Loved the round table talk.
@13:54 on revealing the vfx tricks. I wonder if we'd have fewer vfx quarterbacks belittling our work on every turn if we hadn't revealed the vfx trickery over the years.
Ahsoka was fantastic and everything I’d hoped for in a Star Wars series. ILM’s work on this series, along with countless other Star Wars properties, is just incredible.
Always amazed by your creations, it's one thing that got me to do adult college courses in graphic design, from there I built my computer, and got a degree in black & white photography, all gave me ideas for films. Thank you all.
Dave Filoni is the Dave Grohl of Star Wars
He's impossible to dislike
Oh, that first line had me set up for a very different 2nd line.
“A special effect is a tool, a means of telling a story. A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing.”
- George Lucas.
Says the guy that made three prequels that totally relied on VFX instead of a decent plot.
@@TryptychUK True, though he did once believe it at one time, before the dark times, before the prequels.
A broken clock is right twice a day etc. 😉
@@TheCrumb74 Lucas should have played to his strengths as an ideas man, but left writing and directing to others.
The prequels did have a full, unique story to tell, with lots of practical and CG effects used to tell it.
Yes yes, but let’s bear in mind that this comment is meant to point out that however good the effects were in Ashoka, without a competent story it’s kinda pointless. Lucas himself proved this to be correct with everything he did after Jedi. Doesn’t alter the truth of the quote.
Thank you! 🎬 I love stuff like this.
7:06 Power of one! Power of two! Power of maaany!
Finally a star wars video without toxic comments.
Give it time.
Because it's just a mediocre show, not like Acolyte disaster anti-fan woke shit, so whatever.
Could you please make subtitles available?
Wow! This is amazing! Thanks!🙏🏻
Fantastic! I need more!
So thoroughly enjoyable!!
"You guys have such knowledge in this (Star Wars) type of film"
- Dave Filoni
Wow, I had no idea they had used horses. Those dogs/wolfs came across on screen much smaller and shorter than horses to my eyes on screen. I guess the height and shape of their back of the necks really changes that.
That was very nice!
I think I like like industrial light and magic.
Welcome to another episode of ILM Crew where we take a look behind the scenes of one of the greatest star wars shows of the past few years
Amazing
I need a jacket like that in my life.
My son, just beginning to understand how things are made, says “I want to be those guys who work behind the movies/ shows.” This is the type of thing I show him.
as a 3D artist myself. I would give my unborn child to work on a star wars title. I would even do it for free.
good stuff
What’s up with all the videos lately for this, is it for the emmys or something? Not complaining it’s good to see Hayden in any form
Think its the strike ending, things are getting rolled out finally
Yeah, theres emmy related hastags in the description.
28:45 If that's the case, then what the heck happened to the Kenobi series?!?
Would it kill you to put in a pancake once in a while? I mean come on!
Dave Filoni is the true successor to George Lucas for taking Star Wars forward. Disney should relinquish any and all control to something soooo beloved as Star Wars and just let Dave take things forward, plan things. Btw, Ahsoka was a damn fine, DAMN FINE Star Wars show. Had a great old school Star Wars feel about it. Can't wait for S2. Just wish Ahsoka would have been done before the sequel trilogy as they could have used some story aspects from this series and carried ideas over.
Use me as a: ‘I have a respectful opinion about the Acolyte’ button
DAVE FILONI!!
All of ILM’s visual effects power couldn’t fix the dead pixel above Paul Kavanagh’s head?
You guys need to look at True Lies finale in Miami with the Harrier on a crane on top of a crane.. still flawless to this day. And Rob Legato worked on it, I think.
Dave Filoni = George Lucas (in due time).
1st? lol
We need more LGBT+ stories and characters in movies, series, animation and games! 🏳️🌈❤️
Never let bro cook again
No
This is what happens when you don't pay your talent at ILM, they leave and you get really bad VE because you elected to not pay them. Kathleen Kennedy should be fired for this alone.
"Respectful of what came before"
Why can't ALL of Lucasfilm (and anyone who works on a huge established franchise) follow this most basic rule?
Red Letter Media ist going downhill. Most boring Best of the Worst Episode ever. Jay hardly said anything. The hat suits Rich Evans, though.
lol i was thinking the same thing
I thought the rendition of the "space whales" was actually pretty piss poor.
Look at the still of this video, people standing in 20ft of fog, and you can barely see the furthest figure.
These things are supposedly MILES long in cloud, yet there is no atmospheric occlusion.
Saturation, detail and contrast should decrease, you shouldn't even be able to see the end of them.
All their fins with sharp alpha edges?
Come on guys, you know the rules.
This is shite.
Too bad the show was boring
You're boring.
That show was appalling. Sorry you guys had to work on that turd.
Too bad effects were gay AF.
Awoka
Visually stunning as always ILM, but the full picture also includes the story, and Disney Star Wars has more misses that hits...
