Whoever this wonderful person is, looking straight at the facts, she might have just narrowed down us to 1-2 theories out of 1000000 of them. Good job!
This girl is very knowledgeable and makes some great, refreshing points. She has explained all the the events leading up to Maura's disappearance perfectly as well as great explanations for the condition of her car and the stuff found in and around it.
This young lady is very impressive. I like her approach to all of these things, and I like the research that she has done. Maybe you aren't reading comments on your old videos, but if you do read this and speak to her again, please let her know how much some of us appreciated her work on this case.
I am up to episode 75 and this episode still sticks with me the most. Erin did an outstanding job clarifying some issues and offered some hugely helpful theories about some elements of the narrative. The work she did on the police logs and seemingly being the 1st person to bring to light the possibility that Officer Bruce McKay from the neighboring police dept could have been cruiser 001, which was an SUV that belonged to the Franconia PD. Just offering that possibility seems like a pretty huge deal for people to analyze the case. Also kind of interesting the way it potentially ties in with future episodes that cover Bruce McKay's volatile role in the community as a police officer. Also had some great research and theories related to the issues with Maura's car. Great guest and I hope she able to translate her work on this case to other unsolved cases because she is very thorough...
12-1-16..Guerrilla Ontology : You done a very good job on the Pod-Cast so don't let anyone tell you differently...As you can see there are a lot of Trolls invading this Case..There might come a time where I might want to talk to you,if your willing...Good Job..
What I dont understand is this, if the diet coke bottle contained coolant, why would she have had a Twizzler in it? Previously, I thought that it had been mentioned, that she was using the Twizzler as a straw, please correct me if this is wrong.
Really great insight into this case. Love that Erin has worked so hard to get us new information & a fresh view. My only question really is why was there no forensics done on the car? Such as swabbing the carpet & coke bottle to see what it actually was? Just because the wine box was in the car everyone automatically thought it was the wine spilled. Not even checking to see if it was blood or anything else. & if the car is still in holding can't they still take the carpet & check it? Also I'm sure the coke bottle is still in evidence so why have they not checked them & then put a end to the speculation on what the red spots were & if she was drinking out of the coke bottle?
on another episode, not sure which, someone said the evidence wasn't handled as such as it was a missing person case, not a crime scene-yet. They assumed Maura would be found or return soon. Maybe not great police work either way, but that was the stance
As an RA, if there is ever a party, we do rounds every few hours on the weekends, to make sure there are no parties. If the party was indeed a big party with a lot of people, there has to be an RA that have heard anything during that time, or an incident report submitted to the university's conduct office, where they look through all the incidents, i.e. Noise violations, alcohol, fights, smoking, etc. If it was a small gathering of friends, I doubt the RAs would have noticed anything like that, unless there's noise. Noise attracts an RA and we usually remember the faces of people in the party. Gotta see who the RA in Steph's dorm was and if they remember anything
We don't really know that she WAS in a rush. We know that she had a very small window where she "disappeared" (whatever happened, she was there and then she wasn't, so call it what you will). So we can say she disappeared quickly, but we can't say for sure she purposefully was rushing to leave the scene of the accident. I really think that either someone took her or something happened (purposefully or accidentally) to her when she walked a ways to get a signal.
The “rush to leave” belief is based on inferences of what may have happened from one witness’s statements or perhaps the police report that assumed she left the scene. Nothing factual to establish that she was in a rush to leave or in a rush in general.
She had just moved to the school in mid term.. and she had a part time job as well as school, it would be most reasonable that she was not totally unpacked yet.... if it was me... that is what I would have done... take out what you would use and leave the rest packed.
Makes total sense what she said about the dorms. Our dormitory in Canada worked the same way. We called it a single/double. I often left boxes and bags on the other bed in my room. We wouldn't really get settled until second term, after Xmas, because at that time, it would be highly unlikely that we'd get a roommate.
I totally appreciate everyone's insight on this situation. Only if they are serious about it. First I would like to say that Erin knows enough about certain things that do help and thank you Erin for that and for all the research you’ve done. I have read everything on Maura Murray's disappearance as well as watching and listening to every episode of the Missing Maura Murray podcast and somewhere along this adventure I totally missed the information on Maura's internet search namely "the effects of excessive drinking on an unborn baby". Now I believe that that night at work at the dorm’s reception is probably when Maura actually found out that she was pregnant. If this is so then I believe she reacted in a very stunned or even horrified way. I think that this is why she took her trip to possibly give her time to think of what she will do about the baby. What if the baby was not fathered by her boyfriend Billy? How does she tell him? And what about when Maura was calling Billy and it was later known that at that time Billy was talking to Maura’s friend Kate Markopoulos. Billy was obviously concerned about Maura and tried to get any information he could from her friend. OR what if the baby is Billy’s but she had fallen in love with someone else and wanted to be with him. Remember one witness had said that they saw the girl who was in the accident get into another car and they drove off. This is where I don’t know if she is off somewhere in the world with this man and child living life or the car that she got into was someone who did the worst scenario I can think of by abducting her and ultimately killing her. I hope this did not happen and for some reason I do not believe she would get into someone else’s car when she didn’t take Butch’s invite to wait at his house with his mother and common law wife. I don't think I would have done either. I don’t know but I so wish we all can find out. Love your podcast guys!
I'm thinking some of these trips in the dispatch log that you're thinking should take longer may be because in an emergency a cop or ambulance/paramedic and the like are probably going to speed up more than your average driver obeying the speed limit. It may in fact cut their trip time in half. Although I am sure to many that sounds especially dangerous on a road or set of roads in such a forested area where they are not the best, but I still think they must speed up as you see in the city as well to get there faster. Except they don't even have the traffic to worry about as much in a place like where Maura went missing.
Time stamps are only as good as the dispatcher making said time stamps. If he was busy, he may have overlooked putting a unit enroute here or there, or failing to clear a unit from a scene.... it does happen. I don't know if that's the case here but it certainly isn't a perfect system.
I was really skeptical about this interview at first (especially considering the previous episode which felt like Tim and Lance were searching for anyone they could find with any input), but as the episode went on the information/theories became more and more plausible. I really appreciate the fresh take. I wish I could clear out all that clutter of information in my head that has built up and start from here. I became really curious about what Ms. Larkin thinks happened to Maura. Do we have an answer on that? Also, that plug for the food service is way out of place with the atmosphere and subject matter at hand. I'm glad you guys got sponsored but I don't really want to think about food when I'm considering the fate of a missing woman.
I haven’t finished the episode yet, but I attended UMass in 2004 and I was a junior who had a single, and there aren’t 2 beds in the single rooms. I had a single both my junior and senior year and both times there was only one bed in the room. Those rooms don’t have the option of “adding a roommate” if they don’t have enough housing as the woman interviewed mentions. My sophomore year they actually housed me in a hotel (and several other students) because they didn’t have enough housing on campus for freshmen and sophomores. Just wanted to clarify the single room comment!
I'm wondering if this blogger could shed some light on the red rubber clog found at the crash scene? Did she ever see Maura wearing red clogs or perhaps someone else?
Hector Savage in the Rick interview, he mentioned Kathryn telling the search people what kind of shoes Maura had been wearing...they talked about them being clog type shoes, "crocs " were even mentioned. They were saying how she was definitely not in good shoes for the weather there.
I felt like the majority of this episode was very hard to follow. Also, it seems like you're trying to imply police involvement or cover up...was that your point?
I haven't finished the episode yet, but I'm fairly confident that Smith was at the scene of the call about Maura's accident. Is there any chance that the H2 mentioned on the Groton call could be from neighboring Hebron?
Hi Alex - I agree that Smith was at Maura's scene. I think the meta point is that something is off with the timing. And really good point about Hebron. Someone mentioned the same thing in the Facebook group, so I'm looking into that :).
Hi Erinn! The timing of certain things does seem a little odd in places. Given that the last call prior to Maura's on the logs for Haverhill that night was at 6:08PM, nearly an hour-and-a-half earlier, Sgt. Smith likekly wasn't off on another call at the time of Maura's accident. So what took 17 minutes to respond, and has that question ever been asked/answered? Haverhill is a rather small area so I would think response, especially to an emergency, would be a little quicker than that, but perhaps there are circumstances of which we're unaware. I have heard it mentioned that he said he "got lost" on the way, but never seen any source/quotes to back that up.
I know everyone has their own opinions and critiques but for me personally, this is my favorite of the podcasts regarding Mauras case for two reasons mainly.. She doesn't seem to have an ulterior motive and doesn't seem to push any particular theory. With that said, I don't agree that it's not the best educated guess that Maura was drinking and driving the night she disappeared. I hope her family gets the answers they've waited way to long for. Can't imagine how that feels for her Dad :(
If you take some of the Dexcool coolant (the ORANGE) antifreeze, it will dry lighter than orange. It will look like a yellow, perhaps dark yellow. Also, is there any evidence that this engine did have Dexcool coolant? Just because it left the factory with Dexcool doesn't mean it was still in the engine. It wasn't as common as the typical green coolant and most gas stations didn't carry Dexcool. If she had engine trouble, she could've switched coolant types of just kept adding the green and over time the dexcool was all gone.
I don't know that I could get behind the dexcool on the ceiling theory. If the airbag deploys, they are'nt behind the heater core, but in front of it in the "cabin" of the car. The only way to know what it was would be to test it. I looked up Alumaseal, it is like a product i've used in the past, I believe I used stop leak(talking early 90's). It actually ends up plugging all the hose/pathway in the vehicle and and you lose heat from your heater core. If a heater core is leaking, I believe its mostly inside the housing, runs down the firewall of the engine compartment. Any residual inside is usually burned off leaving a film on the interior of the windshield when it blends with the heat, or general humidity. It would be interesting to know if she had that stuff previously, or maybe she did ditch her car earlier and it resulted in a leak.-sidenote-those products don't work and just make your problem worse.
Are there any logs from the place you mention as Franconia? You stated you had looked at them so they are somewhere? They are very important as to timing of events conveniently left out of the official story. Also, are there any check-ins to any of the most nearby motels/hotels over say a four or five day period prior to, including and shortly after? Another avenue of approach are possible bills from any debit or credit cards. Perhaps there was already fraud taking place.
The tailpipe rag is very bothersome to say the least especially with that other report from seven forty-nine to nine zero four p.m. Not to mention the fact that the dispatch time to arrival time which only differs by nine seconds. That's pretty miraculous timing if you ask me. But back to the rag in the tailpipe? The explanation provided could make sense in very limited circumstances regarding flooding or running out of gas. That is the least likely explanation, though. In reality, it can be a quick and amateur way to check the exhaust system up to an including leaks in the manifold. However, if the intent during driving, an accident or immediately after or before an alleged accident would be vastly different, risky and help to explain other observations and oddities about this case. Obviously, foul-play or an attempt at that appearance is one of them. Potential further damage or destruction of the engine (regardless of probability) would be another possible intention, the hopes of pushing gases, fumes, and/or smoke through the heater vents due to being trapped in the engine compartment might also be an intention. Also, to confuse different scents based upon interior items.
It is common practice to "clear a call" prior to arriving at a scene. This occurs for various reasons. It could be that there is sufficient personnel at a scene to handle said situation, which would keep "available" officers on patrol. It could happen when there is a higher priority call that is received that the officer would need to be enroute to. An officer could come upon something that draws his attention that would require his attention at that moment... most likely it would occur when personnel at the scene cancels his response.
How can a person be at two places during the same time frames? There are a number of ways depending upon belief system. However, if the Butson's sighting and alleged reporting is reliable insofar as an actual reporting (regardless of veracity), then it provides nearly an extra hour and half for mysterious things to happen. Another, is to ask why is this on the alleged Franconia log and where is that located because it appears you did not only see it, but have a copy to reference.
I like Erin but she's wrong about the coolant, I was spun in an accident almost identical to Maura and I had a soda in the cup holder and it was exploded ALL over the car, ceiling doors dash seats everything, Maura was def drinking and driving. Open wine, open soda soda smells of wine, and fleeing.
I feel Erin isn't really contributing to where Maura Murray is but rather nit-picking and questioning tiny details that don't find where Maura is. The 'Witness A' interview however actually provided worthwhile info that indicates that an officer is involved in her death, find that officer - find Maura.
tko4051 Erin gives fabulous insight such as the timing of the call log and pointing out that the officer could have been from a different jurisdiction...it could have been 001 from the next County, which explains the witness saying they heard officers arguing over jurisdiction. also, she gave very knowledgeable info on the condition of Maura's car and what the coke bottle could have been for and what the red liquid could have been. I think Erin could be the beginning of the end in solving this case.

If she wasn't drinking, why would Maura refuse help? Why would she be in such a rush to leave scene?
Perhaps she wasent in a rush to leave the scene. She could have been simply trying to get a signal on her phone.

What about that employee at the gas station that saw an old man and a girl(possibly maura). Interviewing her could potentially reveal something.

Jeez this is getting weirder and weirder. It sounds like a police officer or two has to be involved.

tko4051 Erin gives fabulous insight such as the timing of the call log and pointing out that the officer could have been from a different jurisdiction...it could have been 001 from the next County, which explains the witness saying they heard officers arguing over jurisdiction. also, she gave very knowledgeable info on the condition of Maura's car and what the coke bottle could have been for and what the red liquid could have been. I think Erin could be the beginning of the end in solving this case.
tko4051 both of them are dead your not gonna find anything
tko4051-Without a major break in the case, questioning tiny details is about the best we can do!
