Mrs Wranglerstar needs to wear pants move often. Glad not to see her in skirts for a change. What a lucky man Cody. You better not let her get away.
Good start. She just needs a "side swing" technique to build up speed. I'll try to describe it. Right foot forward, right hand on bottom of axe, left hand near the top. Axe blade pointing down. Send both arms slightly backward and up at the same time, moving the axe head in an arc behind the body and bringing the left hand down the axe shaft as the head starts to rise. The left hand joins the right one at the bottom of the shaft as the axe approaches its apex (vertical). Now you have momentum, and you can apply downward force with the hands, bending the knees just before the axe head hits.
Once a good feel for doing it from one side is built, try alternating sides for a balanced workout. You'll get a LOT more momentum on the axe/maul head than doing the "up and down" technique.
My 78 year, old four foot nine grandma split wood until last year.
Granted we only have 10 inch logs but she would get those in one hit.
Occasionally she would have to pound the first ax with an other. But she go the job done.
She grew up on the farm and understood that the work had to be done no sense waiting for someone else.
Before her husband died they did about 6 cord and after she would do 2 cord herself and I would do 1.
The reason she stopped is she lost her mobility. She now uses electric heat as I don't have enough time to go to high school and cut and chop that much wood.
Did it get dark before she split that log? ;) None of that for me. Not while I have a splitter.
I've only used a splitting maul to split by hand. It looks like Mrs. W has something lighter than that. I don't doubt her muscle for a second, but I wonder if the wood would surrender more quickly if she used a maul...?
Yeah, I noticed that watching back. :-) The most efficient tool is different for each of us, I think.
Please make sure she doesn't hit herself in the face!
Love the fact that Mrs W is a "working" partner on your homestead. Doesn't appear to be afraid to tackle any job. You are a lucky man and she is a lucky women and the two of you make one heck of a TEAM.
I knew there was Irish in that head of hair. Hair like that only comes from County Wexford in the South eastern part. I do so enjoy video's with Jack and Mrs W in them. You go girl !!!! Make that stump shiver at the sight of you !!!!

+dirtpatcheaven I used to hate it as a child. But then I grew up knowing the warmth of a wood stove and how it outweighed the pain of splitting and stacking.
At least she didn't split her lip.
Those firs sure are tough. Definitely not your typical seasoned rounds.
I believe that wood has been down for a while. The maul is not doing the job. The big guy with the beard was having a hard time also.

i don't know if I am the first to say it but....NOT FAIR! I call foul! That's no splitting maul!! Give the lady the proper tool, and I'm puttin my money on Mrs.W that she CAN and WILL split that log to pieces!!
You showed focus and determination, Mrs. W! I think if you loosen up your stance and utilize your body more like a whip with each stroke, you will produce even more power and precision...both of which were already very impressive! And putting the log you were splitting on top of the other round was a smart move.
For this job you need a man and monster maul, or a good ax and techniques such as "wood splitting with a twist" 😊😉

You should be better of using a couple of wedge insteg.
Try and you see the difference.
At last, splitting wood that is as difficult as our Australian hardwoods! Mrs W, when it refuses to open up in the cracks, just take the edges off first and work your way in. If I might also say, make a full and strong overhead swing from the "relaxed" position - that velocity adds a huge amount of weight to the splitter which means much less of your muscles. I'm 57 and still split most of our household firewood so a lady can indeed split firewood. You go girl. cheers from Mrs Swagman

Mrs W has enough body strength if she would just attack rather than "wussing" each stroke. Much like the same way a woman throws a baseball. Limp wrist. Limp arm. Woosie. If Mrs W would attack with a power stroke she would get the job done as well as anyone else but that is not a natural thing for a woman, it's a learned thing. She will have to learn how to do power stroke. Cody, please teach her.

With big rounds like that you have to work from the edges in.. Think of it as peeling an apple or banana ?? Break off that first edge and follow suit all the way around..
This was a little painful to watch. I've taught a lot of people to do a lot of things and I have a hard time watching someone struggle. Log too high, hasn't been taught the transfer or the grip or isn't using it. I bet there were some new muscles learned about today, half of which should never have been felt.
For some reason this reminds me of what was just brought up on MM. I vote on allowing her to try it on some dry wood, along with a proper setup on where she places this wood to split. I do understand that this was done is fun. Having two daughters and now a second wife just might make someone in my like shoes productive on issuing chores. I do agree with the others that the Lord has blessed you and your son.

I have seen you do a lot of videos splitting wood. But I don't recall seeing one where you use a splitting wedge.
Is anyone allowed to split firewood with a fiskars axe on your property or are fiskars axes banned?

+MegaMetinMetin Don't say Fiskars around Cody . That could be fighting words. A steel wedge and and a 5 pound hammer would have been better. She could have gone though that in minutes .
