George Carlin was a good example of that. Went from doper humour with a touch of absurdity (good example is his "what time is it" routine); to the firebrand we all knew and loved in his later years. Mitch would've been similar I guess.
Start out observing and discovering humor on people end up discovering there are really SOB's who should be made materials for comedy. "George Bush...even the name..."
Even now in the age of twitter and vine. I feel like his style is so well suited to the sense of humor that dominated the 2010s. I would've loved to see what he'd be doing in that environment.

Something that people never knew about Mitch was that he had extreme stage fright his entire career. He struggled before each and every performance which caused him severe anxiety.
Yes he was on heroin or severely drunk every time he got on stage!! Sad but true! The high was too powerful for him in the end! He needed it more than living itself!! 😏
His jokes were the "stupid humor" kind. Not because the jokes were stupid, they're all fairly clever (the original "shower thoughts" perhaps), but when you hear them you can't help but laugh and say "that's so stupid".
Seeing Ralphie May roaring with laughter at the end of Mitch’s set made me both incredibly happy and incredibly remorseful at the same time. Such great talents, both gone too early.
No notes, no index cards, nothing.... This legend could talk for 2 hours on heroin, never repeat a line, and get more laughs than 95% of today's comedians. RIP Mitch. Genius.
He was funny, sure, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he was the best. I mean, his best buddy, Doug Stanhope is better. He kills it. But it's true that a lot of comedians really liked Mitch Hedberg. I guess it's a personal preference thing. I'm not a huge fan of one-liners. That said, he's one of the best at that format. Jimmy Carr is another guy that's in the same vein, just a little bit edgier.
It doesn't matter how many times I hear him repeat the same lines, they still make me laugh my ass off, his "Rice" joke gets me EVERY TIME. Its a damn shame he passed away.
He died at a hotel that was walking distance from the house I grew up in. Livingston, New Jersey. It makes me sad to think that he was so close by while he was suffering. He’s incredible. I can only imagine all the wonderful accomplishments he would have made if he’d lived. Rest In Peace, MH ♥️

You obviously haven't seen much of him.
Even though he was always drunk and high he was always such a nice polite guy… it just proves how pure his soul was ❤

He don't need it man. He gave you the money, you just give him the donut. No need to bring ink and paper into this.
@@MegaTechpc Not a Hedberg joke but a great hippie humzinger
owenhunt a great hippie humzinger used in one of Mitch's recorded sets, easily searchable on this here very video application
Did he file it under D?
Don't even act like he didn't get that donut
Never saw this one before. That was before I saw it. Now I have seen it after. Thanks for uploading before it was after.
That reminds me of a joke, but I wont tell it because then you already know the joke.
That is very Hedbergian, my man. I'm digging it.
lol....
lol nice. in Honor of the man!
I used to like this video. I still do, but I used to too
“A severed foot, makes a perfect stocking stuffer”
How awesome would it have been to be able to see this guy as an old man? How much funnier would have been? A true legend in comedy.
At least we still have Steven Wright
Even now in the age of twitter and vine. I feel like his style is so well suited to the sense of humor that dominated the 2010s. I would've loved to see what he'd be doing in that environment.
people like Mitch don't get that old man

I got to see him 3 times and each was spectacular. Miss ya man.
How about Ralphie May in the crowd? Two funny dudes gone. Luckily we have RUclips to relive their comedic genius.
laughing SO hard lol love that pastor ass look he has going on there.
Thanks for pointing out baby ralphie may. I had to pause and rewatch. It’s so dope to see truly talented artists enjoying other truly talented artists. So sad I’ll never get to see either of them in person, but so happy that they left behind their comedic legacy for us and future generations to appreciate!

7:24 Ralphie May
If this man were still alive, he would be one of comedies best ever.
He still IS one of the best comedians ever, even tho his time with us was far too short.
One of the few times Mitch performed without shades on. He usually had them cause of his natural shyness. I miss this dude
I just realised haha
The show producers probably told him he couldn't wear the sunglasses because, TV.
Everytime i use use my Cheese shredder to grind up some cheddar cheese, i say to myself "sponge ruiner" and giggle. Still got a self burned CD of one of his specials, and always have it along in my car. When i feel roadragey, i just pop in that disk and i'm all good.
Miss you Mitch...
Something that people never knew about Mitch was that he had extreme stage fright his entire career. He struggled before each and every performance which caused him severe anxiety.
BulletSpoung yea and that’s why he wore sunglasses
Yeah... No. Just about all of his fans knew this.
That was never a secret...
Yes he was on heroin or severely drunk every time he got on stage!! Sad but true! The high was too powerful for him in the end! He needed it more than living itself!! 😏
People never knew that? You can see it plain as day, dude.
Only discovered him a few years ago..up there with the best..surreal ..”shake to the best of your ability”. Genius
Comedy is taking something from every day life and making it funny. Mitch was a master at that
You know, for a one liner comedian, he sure had a lot of two and three line jokes.
"fruit on the bottom, hope on top" I loved this man's humor. I miss him everyday.
His jokes were the "stupid humor" kind. Not because the jokes were stupid, they're all fairly clever (the original "shower thoughts" perhaps), but when you hear them you can't help but laugh and say "that's so stupid".
He said this just as I was reading your comment
Seeing Ralphie May roaring with laughter at the end of Mitch’s set made me both incredibly happy and incredibly remorseful at the same time. Such great talents, both gone too early.
Sometimes you’re just too funny to be living on this earth. RIP
Lame
@@carltonthepug Yea you are.
No notes, no index cards, nothing.... This legend could talk for 2 hours on heroin, never repeat a line, and get more laughs than 95% of today's comedians. RIP Mitch. Genius.
RIP? Oh no, no, no. He's no longer out there? Damn it all!
@@hilarylaw8415yup. Passed in 2005 of a heroin overdose I believe.
RIP Mitch, you were and always will be the best!
I feel like i'm playing catch up not the condiment .........WOW Amazing , Pay it Forward xo
Stephen Bru
It doesn't matter how many times I hear him repeat the same lines, they still make me laugh my ass off, his "Rice" joke gets me EVERY TIME. Its a damn shame he passed away.
He died at a hotel that was walking distance from the house I grew up in. Livingston, New Jersey. It makes me sad to think that he was so close by while he was suffering. He’s incredible. I can only imagine all the wonderful accomplishments he would have made if he’d lived. Rest In Peace, MH ♥️
Hopefully it was quick. I’m no professional, but I can’t imagine speed balling being much of a drawn out death. 37 years old is damn young. What a shame.
I don’t think I’ve heard of this guy before so I just looked him up. I liked this! His name kept making me think about Max Headroom lol.
I live near that hotel now, one town over, and it strangely adds to my sorrow a little bit. I always think of him when I pass it.
3:33 I have a roll of lifesavers in my pocket....and pineapple is NEXT! lmaoooo
can you explain? x)
He told this joke and I didnt laugh for a few seconds, then I thought about it and then it had me rollin lol
@@BratvaTV Im dumb, why is it funny?
@@m.rivers9201 If you need it explained, you wont find it funny. Mitch Hedberg is not for you. Find another comedian.
@@BratvaTV Fair enough, I was not being critical I just wanted to understand the joke, funny or not. Why wouldnt the next flavor be Cherry? I like Tom Segura others dont like his dry delivery. Either way I was asking just to understand how he put concepts together. Then again, not knowing might be the joke, I dunno?

I like Mitch Hedberg, because he has a lot of free time.
I love this guy so much.
I would have loved to chill with him.
I think a lot of us would.
Glad I got to see Mitch a few times before he died, I even shook his hand after a show! Definitely had me rolling in the crowd.

Like I said I did not lose a leg.
Only found this guy today. One of the best I've ever heard. Reminds me of how robbin Williams would deliver jokes. Mitch's jokes are absolutely phenomenonal
I love how he views the world. One of my favorite comedians. Some of his "unfunny" jokes are what makes me laugh the most 😆
Mitch was so endearing on stage, you can hear that the audience can feel his nervousness and they really embrace it and help him.
Unfortunately it took the audience 30 minutes into his 45minute set on his marquee Comedy Central performance to do the same.
RIP Mitch
Is that the one where they really started getting into him near the end? And he kept adding more jokes to the special? "That one is getting edited IN the special!"
yeah, it’s frustrating as hell listening to that one cause the set it hysterical but the audience is flat

Man this popped up in my feed. I sure do miss Mitch. He was absolutely hilarious.
He's terrified of stages yet is one of the best comedians
Saw Mitch in '03 opening for Dave Attell and Lewis Black in Portland. Never laughed so hard in my damn life. RIP Mr Hedberg.
Damn....that show must have been epic.
Love Mitch and Dave.
I've watched a lot of Hedberg but have never really been 'into' his work. I wonder if a live performance might have changed my mind, if I'd been there to 'feel the energy' because it may sound silly but some artists are like that.
Same! I was able to get him to dig a CD for me
My favorite comedian. Wish I got a chance to see him perform live. R.I.P. Mitch
I'm so sad I only discovered him after he passed away. He was a very endearingly funny comic. Totally unique.
I really love this guy. His laugh is contagious and missed. May he rest in peace
