Way back in1928 family migrated here. Am exceeding proud of family and their ancestors. Would love Edgar and Ginn info. Am aware of John Pilgrim Ginn and master mariner John Edgar (both in1800s). Thx for venue & love these pics. Sid Edgar

Nice video, one little inaccuracy though. The parade on 1 July is not in celebration of Canada Day, as was implied in the video. It is marking the anniversary of the bloodiest battle in Newfoundland's military history, the Battle of Beaumont Hamel in France, which took place on 1 July 1916 which nearly wiped out the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.

No, that would be an honorable history. Most Newfoundlanders live as serfs in the city. Very, very few live in the woods or country. I grew up in the country and even I was looked at as weird in what I liked to do for fun (fishing, hiking, quad, ice fishing). I was basically a hick outcast to most of the people I went to school with. Newfoundland life nowadays (because of their willingness to let the government rule them) is basically work at some shit job long enough to get unemployment hours, take unemployment, and then cry and moan while seeking work they don't want to do. The usual work is call center until unemployment hours are met, quit, collect pokey, back to work when it runs out with a face on. The other lifestyle is men collect enough money fishing, their wives then work in the a fish plant, the wives then strike for more money, get some pokey, go home and live off of pokey until next season. The smartest Newfies don't live there, or are retired when they come back. Those are hated by the lazy ones that did nothing in life but still envy the other guys truck or house. These are oil rig workers, refinery workers and people who just left - like myself. They go away, they generally work hard, they stay until they can retire and visit on holidays. When they retire they buy nice houses and have nice things and the other Newfie hate them for it. Nothing Viking about it... nothing. It's a welfare society.

Over half 1 million people are employed indirectly or directly by the forest industry. You’ve got to be joking. The entire population of Newfoundland is barely over half 1 million people and that includes every man woman and child. And it isn’t pronounced new-found-land. It’s pronounced like new-fun-land. Pay no attention to this woman she has no clue what she’s talking about.

But it is a "fact" that "IS IN ORDER" canso... She specifically said the industry "In Canada" She also stated forestry employs 1/2 a million people. Canada is NOT all of Nfld As Newfoundland only has @ 1/2 Million... LoLoLoL!!!

Rude comment. Lots of people mess up the pronunciation .That does not mean they are uneducated. They are simply using the spelling.

She can be forgiven for what you think is improper pronunciation. What's your excuse for not being able to spell Newfoundland?
