    FINALLY someone actually points out why IEMs may be preferable over headphones. The portability factor, price and convenience. Unless one values soundstage more than those then it may not be a good option.
    As much as I want to purchase headphones, I won't. I prefer IEMs better (my preference).

    I started my hifi journey with KZ ZS6. They were extremely bright (propably the reason i have tinnitus) then bought M40x. The M40x was good but I sold those for HD58x and oh my god they were insane. I used those babies for like 5 years. Then I bought Seeaudio Yume Ultra and they are basically HD58x but a bit detailed. I was really shocked how can IEM sound so good. I sold my HD58x and kept the Yume Ultra's.

    unlike IEM market where advancement moves fast, the headphone market seems stale for a long time now. Now with that said, absolute summit-fi headphones stand the test of time extremely well, things like Focal Utopia, Hifiman Susvara, Stax SR009S, ... are still top dogs today as they were back then when first released onto the market.

      @@_chiaki_nanami_ well, if you love maximum details/resolution & unique ethereal treble from real electrostatic driver, then you can't go wrong with the Stax flagships. Worth it or not is whole different story though, since everybody values thing differently and not to mention the Stax will need ample amount of juice to feed it, which translate to another big buck spent into dac/amp stack. Personally I would save for Focal Utopia for the beautiful & organic mid, with tastefully done bass as well, though sacrificing a bit of details & soundstage but easier to drive to maximum capability. Haven't listened to Susvara yet so won't comment on it.

    Put it on tubes , you’ll hear them come to life . I put it on tubes to get that “colored sound” . Adding more bass and the midrange and vocals is even more inviting . And 1 thing about Sennheisers HD6X0 series that I like is that their repairability factor . Head band broke ? No problem, buy and fix it . Ear pads worn out ? No problem , buy a fresh one from Sennheiser. Longevity of audio products is always a good thing and Sennheiser achieves it .

    i had both the 6xx and 600 and preferred the 600 with eq, better vocals and better bass and treble extension. 6xx vocals were also a little veiled. however my daily drivers ended up being beyerdynamic 880 600ohm with oratory1990's worn pad eq and a little bump to the subbass for me personally.

    IEM’s and headphones present differently…on the whole a similar priced iem will out perform the 6XX
    Now,for vocal heavy performance I’ll run my Sen’s 650 ..and musical performance line movie ost or electronica LCDX does the trick .
    No one is perfect for everything..you can get close ..but that why we all have a collection of both IEM’s and headphones.

    Before watching, i thought the headphones would beat the iems similar to what happened with the LCD X vs Subtonic storm. Maybe try comparing with some newer model.
    Why is it that people who listen to HIFI speakers simply cant go back to headphones or IEMs. And similarly people with open backs cant stand IEMs?

    • @jayyaudio

      headphones havent changed much price wise, and HD6XX still the best for vocals at that price

  • @JohnClarkW
    @JohnClarkW 23 дня назад

    If you really want bass on an open back, the HD58x is a nice headphone, and can be picked up for less than the HD6xx. The 58x is easier to drive too. I find flathead earbuds to be a nice middle ground between open backs and IEMs.

    i just saw your iem ranking list i noticed you gave the same rank to sm4 and ie600, are you sure you remember well what ie600 sounds like ? i listened to both last week and they are not in the same league, sm4 is analytical but boringly flat and ie600 is punchy with it's exciting V presentation but more importantly ie600 is in another technical league (much cleaner, better soundstage, much better imaging, slight better details, much better dynamic range) the only advantage i see for sm4 over ie600 is for long listening sessions where ie600 energy is more fatiguing

    • @jayyaudio
      @jayyaudio  17 дней назад

      I wouldn't call boosted treble "analytical", but the IE600 is definitely punchier, the SM4 overall is smoother while being pretty technical

    • @amanieux
      @amanieux 16 дней назад

      @@jayyaudio you misread me i said it was sm4 that was analytical not ie600, the ie600 boosted treble does not convey a analytical vibe, it conveys energetic/exciting vibe which i prefer but you must relisten to ie600 and sm4 side by side, they don't belong in the same category as you grade them, ie600 is much cleaner the imaging is much better

    To me the HD600 sound quite close to Nova in terms of tonality with extra warmth and intimacy to the vocals, and Nova having better details in treble and bass, while HD600 having better soundstage. Since the HD600 has a relatively small soundstage for an open back, it's not a huge difference and one should get an IEM instead. Hoping to get a DZ4 if it comes on deep sale.
