standing ( zhan zhuang ) , i find has really helped in my development . Taking awareness inside & experiencing . Releasing tension , melting as Sifu Surgio describes , expanding outward , getting a good feel for body mechanics . Takes a great deal of patience to start with . Also practising forms at an absolute snails pace , can yield similar benefits .Not for everyone , i know , but each person has their own journey .

I can't agree more. Sadly, nowadays most of the Taiji practicioners are focusing on taolu and miss the other tools of learning of the art.

Zham Zhong is a meditative exercise. In a modern description it would be called “Progressive Relaxation While Standing”.
I practiced this while laying down instead of standing, because I could achieve a relaxed state sooner.
All meditation, regardless of method, develops Focus, Concentration, Awareness, Intention, Sensitivity.
The progression is from the Macro Universe towards the Micro Universe.
You can’t yet detect the Micro Universe because you don’t yet have the lens to see it.
While you Work on the Macro Universe you develop the lens which provides the opportunity to inspect the Micro Universe.

I would like to add a warning:
If you have a foolish heart, when you are awakened you will be a powerful fool who succumbs to his own traps.
But when you cleans your heart of its destructive desires, when awakened you become wise, no longer foolish.
This is part of Awareness, know your hearts state, through introspection.
      Time:
How long does it take to become awakened?
The process takes about one year if all you practice is Zham Zhang.
Can you feel the air on the head of a hammer as it swings through the air?

What I like is how good sifu Sergio is.
What I like is how much he is trying to add to wing chun.
Grandmaster Leung Ting did not add. What He did was Simplify what is already there and convert it into a system so that everyone learns the same thing.
However if someone wants to learn Tai Chi - go and learn tai chi.
For example I also learned Jujitsu for ground wrestling.
And I learned chi development without tai chi.
I think Wing chun should always be wing chun. You can add to the applications but never to the forms.

Besides the isometric conditioning of the lower body, muscular endurance of the limbs and rooting, I feel standing stake is highly overrated. Even you admit you need techniques and body movements to express the benefits if standing stake. I feel like those things can be cultivated more efficiently via other means.

But zhangzhuang is obviously not the only method, helping to "save money". Some taiji schools use it just a bit, as an auxiliary practice, building the skills and power anyway. From my experience, if taiji teacher puts zhangzhuang on the top, he 100% practice yiquan as well ) and it happens that actually only yiquan is taught just in "clothes" of taijiquan )

      @@nikolayordanov3115 1)Yes.
      2) Keeping aside that taiji is all different depending on the school and practitioners, same is with yiquan, I can tell that yiquan is not simpler from the point of view of methods and even ... shapes ) The main impressing defference I have seen is that in yiquan the level of Song is usually less deep than in taiji.

@@nikolayordanov3115 No, this is not the matter I mean ) In fact the same skills may be called in a different way depending of a school. I would mean just my own experience. Good yiquan teachers use not only external power, they are very skilled in the internals. But these internal skills, Songgong in yiquan, are different than in taiji (Yangshi) where the emphasis on Song is deeper, from my experience.

too many analogies. Why not just say one saves energy by standing, not so hard to understand. I find the analogies confuse the subject rather than help explain.

Hello! I would like make you a question about qi gong. It would be a good idea practice zhang zhuang or any kind of static meditation before the practice of the yi ji jing or ba dua jing or on the other hand the zhang zhuang could interfering in the next practice. Thanks for your video!

    • @beenright5115
      @beenright5115 Год назад

I'd say it would be a good idea. Zhan zhuang gathers and settles the energy, so you might use it beforehand to settle the mind and spirit before movement or practice it after as a way of settling and "storing" the energy that you set in motion with baduajin

Is Zhang Zhuang related the the buddhistic term zhang zhun nyan gyud? Its connected with the dzogchen exercises in Bön buddhism

    • @pchemist
      @pchemist 3 года назад +3

No, they are unrelated terms. Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyud means the oral tradition from Zhang Zhung, a kingdom that existed before Tibet, roughly northwest of it, where the Bon Dzogchen tradition came from. Zhan zhuang is the standing training in martial arts, no relation to the Zhang Zhung kingdom.

You see, this is where training starts to fail.
      It is also a "meditation".
It is about being still, body and mind, inside and out, nervous and skeletal system, muscle and mind.
You can use music to distract yourself, but what's the point? You'll just be escaping from the exercise, making yourself weaker, and performing less well at Zhan Zhuang.
