  • A Dollar Tree clerk was shot by a man concealing his identity during a robbery gone wrong. Waukegan police immediately identified a suspect - a freshman at the local high school. Officers rushed to the school and arrested 16-year-old Martell Williams in front of his classmates. Williams was then brought into the interrogation room and grilled by detectives, who got him to give a full confession - but things weren't as they seemed. Please parents teach your kids at a young age to always tell the truth when it comes to the law and don’t admit to anything that u haven’t done to police officers or detectives. Don’t lie for anyone no matter who the hell it is. Don’t talk to the law without them being there or a lawyer being there if they ever find themselves in trouble. Ignore them if u ask for your parent or lawyer. It’s sad this has to be done at such a young age but that’s how life is these days especially for brown skin minors.

Those detectives need fired! It’s insane what they did to that 15 year old. They tried to destroy that kids life. If they would’ve did the tiniest bit of investigative work before they even arrested him in front of his entire school then they would’ve found out he was playing a damn basketball game in front of a lot of people. And the one detective saying he was there for him (the 15 year old) and not the other detective is horribly manipulative. They should be ashamed of themselves. They are grown men and know damn well that kids are easily manipulated. They knew they were wrong. Police should be charged criminally and fired immediately when they do stuff like this. Laws need to change to protect kids and even adults from situations like this. Police shouldn’t be allowed to lie, especially to children. Police aren’t held to the same standard as everyone else and it’s bs. Thankfully there was proof of his alibi. Those cops are a joke.

This is known as the Reed Technique:
"The technique is known for creating a high pressure environment for the interviewee, followed by sympathy and offers of understanding and help, but only if a confession is forthcoming. Since its spread in the 1970s, it has been widely utilized by police departments in the United States."
    1) Dont talk to the police. Get a lawyer. You are granted that right for a reason! It will *not* make you look more guilty.
    2) the things you say, not just can be used against you: it will be weaponized and used against you in court. For example: you get arrested, the cop asks if you take medication. You answer honestly "Yes sir. I have ADHD and have a prescription for Adderall" .....when you get to court, you will be met with "when arrested, the suspected admitted to regularly taking amphetamines."
    3) If you didnt do anything wrong, then dont say you did. Always have a lawyer present and make sure you listen to the rights being read to you! If you arent under arrest and just being questioned, oftentimes: youre free to leave. You can get up and walk out. If you stay and miss speak, you may wind-up in jail. 👍
    4) when youre being read your rights, understand that even the cops are suggesting that you not talk to them
    5) Cops usually can't make deals with you. So, say you arent a great human and you murdered someone. The cops will say something like "Maybe, things got outta hand. you felt threatened and defended yourself. Youre not a cold-blooded killer! Maybe you had to defend yourself and you killed them in a justifiable manner? is that what happened" ....they may already have enough evidence to convict you for murder, not self defense. All they need is for you to confirm that you did, in fact, end a person's life. They don't have to tell you what they know. They also are not lawyers or judges....so them suggesting that you could get less time or a lower charge, is often BS.

@@sunshinedaydream70 I agree. The Reed Technique often....doesn't work. It works enough to continue being used, but.... that's why you have the right to a free attorney. They will be able to stop tactics like this.
Forcing a false admission of guilt is a constitutional rights violation, as you have the right to not self incriminate. If you are coerced into it, then it violates more rights. 🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
So, I'm not sure why they risk it still... 🤔 🤷🏽‍♂️

Lots of people are prone to manipulation. After two days and not realizing he was only detained it made him feel like he needed to say something to get out the room.

You're very naive or just haven't researched into this type of confession. Happens more than you think. Prolonged interrogation can make a human agree to anything to try to get out of there.

The dude in the store with the mask isn’t the same kid. The kid is covering for the actually shooter . Because he is a minor he will get lesser charge I think they have the wrong guy. He wouldn’t have just confessed if he actually did it

Fingering the wrong person really benefits no one. These disgraces of cops only concerned with their own well-being and advancement -- at YOUR expense. The second cop in the room was so happy to sign the kid's false confession, he was fumbling and bungling for the paper and pen like he just won a lottery (you know, for $2 you get back a jack-pot based on something you did nothing to earn) Nice town: walking down the street and stopped by those two who try and pin their jive on you?
