Well done, anything under an hour up that thing is well into the "type 2 fun" category. 46:26 is my fastest, I weigh 54kg or at least I did before, after about 2kg of me was on the mat in a puddle and a few 100g went down the toilet shortly after 🤮. But this is just the kind of thing all totally normal sane people do for fun....right?
Thanks! If you haven't already tried it, you should try and do a negative split (higher power in the second half of the climb) and start off quite reserved. Even though the start of the climb has a higher average gradient i've found starting off easier than you think you need to has given better finishing times.
Top effort. Atleast this effort and numbers look legit too! You gotta be thinking Sub 40 now. My best is just under 50 and sub 45 would be probably the best I can get.
I was on the Aple at the same time as you and stared in your opening credit!... (J.Skinner). I was doing considerably less power than you!.... Nice climb
I had a bet with him that he couldn't do the alpe on 300W erg mode because we usually find erg mode a lot harder. The sub 40 minute attempt will be done without erg mode.
@@melbournecyclingsegments7510 what does that comment even mean? I can't ride the AdZ not in erg mode? I've done a few sub 1h on max trainer difficulty not in erg mode.
@@craigsmith5134 you need to feel the varying gradient, use your gears and manage the effort. Erg mode removes all of that. Made as well be watching Netflix for 42 minutes. Don't take offence
Good effort indeed, but try attempting it properly (not in a workout) as the changes in gradient make it much harder to maintain rhythm, power and cadence.
I had a bet with him that he couldn't do the alpe on 300W erg mode because we usually find erg mode a lot harder. But yeah maybe it does help with rhythm. The sub 40 minute attempt will be done without erg mode.
Thanks, we just meant increasing the watts throughout (when desired) using the +/- toggle in the top left corner. Instead of leaving it on the same watts for the whole effort
He did it recently on max difficulty and was quicker with less RPE. ERG mode is 100% harder than free ride max diff. Let’s see everyone put their correct bodyweight in and see their times haha
@@richardburch1702 thanks for the reply. it's not that I can't go there, but I'm afraid of health issues when going too far in terms of heart rate. that's why I'm mentally stopping myself once I see 170bpm on the display.
Yeah that doesn't sound right unless he had a really high level of fitness before. What was he like when he first started ? I've gained about 50 watts on my FTP after a year of training going from 150 - 200 watts and from what I've been reading that's pretty good although I probably gained that in the first 8 - 9 months and then had a couple of months of hardly any time on the bike.
@@cryptocretin Everyone is different, I started with zero fitness got into cycling and my first ftp test I was at 225w. That was at 85kg, in the first year of training primarily through Zwift courses I peaked at 315 watts. Now that I'm 72kg I struggle to break the 300watt threshold. Some training methods you'll see great improvement while others may not see any.
@@cryptocretin It is pretty mad progress. You can see his first 14 weeks of cycling training here: ruclips.net/video/iRfGhLSFj-c/видео.html which is even crazier. He actually had a very low level of aerobic fitness before he started as he came from the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. All his training is on his strava and I'm going to do a more in depth training analysis video about his progress and i'll include more details about him there :)
@@APEcycling Interesting. Just watched the video. Seems like he had a high level of aerobic fitness to start with if I understood the video correctly. Says his baseline was around 220 watts. I've been going to the gym for years and a small amount of cardio so I wasn't unfit but not much cardio training at all and even after a year of kind of consistent training I'm only up to 200 watts ftp after a year. Don't understand how someone could such a high starting FTP. I read some expert saying they believed about 170 watts ftp was probably the top end for a completely untrained person when starting although peoples genetics can vary a lot. I admit its taken a while to work out how I should really be training and learning about which zones to train in and how to find them so could have potentially made a lot more progress myself. My goal would be closer to 300 watts but feel like its going to take years of training for me to get there. Now just realised he went from 220 watts to about 300 watts in just those 14 weeks not a year. Not sure how that's even possible. Maybe we are all doing it wrong then because I've never heard of anyone gaining that much so fast.
What is your best Alpe Du Zwift time?
Watch the Alpe Ape's first 14 weeks of cycling training here: ruclips.net/video/iRfGhLSFj-c/видео.html
My best Alpe Du zwift time is 49:06 which I achieved last year at the end of October ( I havent tried again since ).
Kudos to your time ! 👍
I suffered watching you do that! Amazing endurance and effort. Thanks for posting. As a "D" rider, I am always amazed by you elite riders abilities.
The most amazing thing is you finished the Alpe with workout pain effect on. Don’t know how you did that without punching something
I've managed the first mile. Hideous climb. Well done!!! 🎉
That was crazy 🙂. Good job. Congratulatios 🙂.
The breathing sounds like a machine lol.
Best for me is 41.59, 57 years old and 57 kg 277w for the climb all standing.
We know how to suffer on the bike 👍👍🥵🥵
what you stood up all the way?
Standing is my thing, Seated ,I'm hopeless, Yep Standing all the way at around 60 rpm
Wow you have improved a lot! Good stuff you for sub 40 for sure

That's mad determination fairplay! It is a brutal climb
Fantastic time! Great climb 💪 I'm quite far, at 49m
Amazing, great job!
Cool, but why in ERG mode? Half the challenge is keeping up the watts on the incline.

Yea I was wondering this too. ERG mode seems harder for sure. Nice job!

That heartrate is crazy high. I'm 40 and won't go beyond 170 anymore.

You may need more rest. Try take a whole week off the bike, I guarantee you'll get your HR higher when you return.

Great effort
Funny smile!
So close to sub 40
Still a long way to go
how can he survive that long with that heart rate?! what is his max heartreate?
His Max is usually around 195bpm
You should be able to hold 90-93% of your max hr for 40-60mins
