      Stephane is an absolute madlad with adding features. If you go and ask for a feature on the forums, chances are it will be added in a later release way sooner than you would expect. Its happened for me like 3 times.

    Yall. Nomad all the way! I used both, and as a professional Game Artist, although both were amazing, I really took to Nomad. It was easy to use and had tons of features, most similar to Zbrush. Forger kept bugging on me. Mask invert wasn't working and my files corrupted easily, even with simply models. Symmetry wasn't perfect either. Nomad is 10x better. Yes, Nomad is more complex to use but there are tutorials to use. Some features are easy to find too

      I’ll be honest, as I mention, I’ve struggled with it. It’s not the perfect solution by a long shot just now, but it does have promise. I excited to see other developers get this made.

  • @ronaldbell7429
    @ronaldbell7429 Год назад +12

    To be honest, I worry about Nomad. I don't see how it can continue being developed forever. Everybody seems to feel like the price they paid ought to cover both the development costs of the past and of the future, in perpetuity. I'm old enough to remember (and like) paid upgrades. Paid upgrades were so much better than subscriptions. If you weren't impressed by the new version, you didn't need to pay for it, and your app didn't stop working. But it incentivized the developer to add features that made it worth the cost (and sometimes that update was simply making the app not break with Apple's newest OS, since that does sometimes happen... but almost no devs ever limited themselves to just that).

      I would pay subscription cost for a Path Tracing/Ray Tracing and animation feature that’s online/cloud based for faster rendering. I can see how the developer could partner with a company like Shadow or Epic Games, even if it’s just a trial period to test the waters. Another great option would be a feature that sends the project to your local PC using Blender, D5 Render and/or Twinmotion.

    As a hard surface modeling tool to use with Nomad Sculpt, why not consider Shapr3D? I know that Shapr3D also requires a subscription, and the subscription price is higher than Forger, but it is also more powerful. I have subscribed to Forger for a year, but I am not used to it. It was interesting until the Polygon modeling function was added after the recent update. I also hope that Forger can evolve stronger in the future, but I still feel that it is currently dealing with hard surface modeling. Maybe Shapr3D works better with Nomad Sculpt.

    At this point my requirements for polymodelling are so high that barebones polymodelling tools don´t really peak my interest. Sure there´s some shapes that will benefit from good subD topology. But for characters and organic stuff focusing on topology first is bit backwards these days. Sure if you want to animate it you´ll need nice deformable topology eventually. But than can achieved later in the pipe when you have good silhuette and shapes in place. I´d rather see some nice sdf based modeller on ipad like MagicaCSG. With that you could do more technical hardsurface without focusing on the topology.

    My first exp w modeling on the iPad was shapr3d. It’s an amazing tool, but when I stumbled on to Nomad I really fell in love. But I found myself trapped between surface modeling and sculpting. Yes it would be cool if nomad had a surface modeling feature like forger, but for now I’m plenty happy bouncing my mesh over to nomad from forger. The subscription is waaaay more reasonable than shapr3d and it’s more organic and tactile. Forger is a lil clunky tho, but I’m getting a lot out of it.

When sculpting in Nomad, the issues I'm having are separation of stroke points which is having to pause a second between strokes, I also find this same issue when using Nomad within the web browser version. Nope. It’s one of the major differences. Nomad kicks for for 3D printing prep using voxel removal features,split, trim and similar tools. Neither app has true Boolean functions. All you have to do is select both shapes with the one that will make the cavity with its visibility turned off, then voxel remesh them and nomad will subtract the cavity shape from the main one, if that makes sense

    The app has no future against Nomad, as ZBrush doesn't against 3d Coat and Blender, I see the same wrong approach of the developers of ZBrush in this app, I work in Zbrush since date release and even a damn 2 decades the developers can't still give us a descent UI and nav Sys and they improved a little it just because the HUGE pressure over them about just that, what means you better sit for waiting the improvements, Zbrush just became a niche program, is not anymore a industry standard because in terms of UV, retopology and hand paint textures 3D Coat become the king and has even better performance in big scenes, I use an Intel 13900K w/NVidia 3090Ti (about to get the 4090) with 128GB DDR5 RAM and at the scale I work ZBrush still crashes time to time while 3D Coat no matters what I trow on it NEVER crashes, with such hardware I can even sculpt with Blender without a problem, I will not say ZBrush can not get the job done BUT because the great interface nav system and other features Blender and 3D Coat are a MUST to speed up your workflow, just an example: to pick just a brush I need to use 3 keyboard keys in ZBrush or spend hours setting up all my shortcuts while in 3D Coad or Blender I can do it with just ONE, just look at blender pie menu you have all your brushes right there available with just one key, the UI in ZBrush and the name menus are so damn IDIOTIC that you lose a huge amount of time just trying to find something and all that STUPIDITY reflects in a huge learning curve for the program, I can work fast in ZBrush after 2 damn decades of experience but is the MORE ANNOYING AND ACKWARD software to use in computers history I still can't find a worse UI and nav design that ZBrush and you are seeing the same mistakes in Forge now, the developers OVERCOMPLICATE things and is like the damn software is fighting you instead of helping you then when you get a hand on 3D Coat and Blender you can't hold the enjoyment of using them and same happens here, if you use Nomad and switch to Forge you feel a downgrade, and is not a huge price gap then I can not see myself drooping at any point soon Nomad for Forge.
