Okay Guys and Gals, I made a mistake in the PRICING section. When I look up the apple store on Google for some reason it brought up the Canadian link instead of the link for US residence first even though I am in the US.
So in the US 🇺🇸 it is 14.99 USD and Canada 🇨🇦 it is 20.99 CAD
Hi AE, do you know if you can hollow out a mesh / sculpt and then add uniform holes to the surface, e.g., with a stamp tool. If so what are the specific basic steps? For instance in Tinkercad, one makes the stamp an "empty" and then combines it with the figure to make a hole.
Thanks.
@@Fairvalues If one of them does it, it will be forger but I've never attempted it. Does tinkercad import objs or stls? Because you can always export to it later. Other then that I would look at the documentation in forger to see what all remeshing options have. Or contact the dev directly. Sorry I couldn't help out much on this one, I usually just print my models solid since I like them having some weight. And if I ever do drain holes, on a hollowed piece chitubox allows me to hollow and drain hole in slicing before print.
@@aefoundry Yes, thanks for your reply. Tinkercad can import both stl and obj, as well as svg and mtl. There is a 25mb limit on file size however, which is why you have to reduce models before uploading there.
@@Fairvalues I know nomad has a decimation operation i think its called tessilation. To reduce geocount when your ready.
Thank you for the informative video, I currently have Forger app on the iPad Pro and I really love it, Nomad sound like a great app , probably will get that as well~
I am so amazed right now that I can actually use a drawing app ( Procreate), a vector app (Affinity Designer) and a 3D sculpting app out of my freaking bed or the train or something I am so glad to live right now:D
Completely in agreement!!!
Man, me too. I’m sad because I’m old now and I’ve wanted this stuff for decades, but I’m still young enough to be excited and use these apps EVERY DAY.
...These kids don’t know how good they’ve got it! 🎩
@@johndeggendorf7826 most definitely, if you tube would have had all that it has now in free content I wouldn't be in tons of debt having gone to school for this. I think kids looking to get into the industry should hear more often that yea having a degree is nice but if art and entertainment is the only thing your going for, that piece of paper doesn't mean squat if your work is crap.
@@aefoundry ...and our little pandemic has added an exclamation point to that. It can take awhile to find your “sensei” but they’re out there. I do expect little Indy productions are going to grow out of this RUclips comradery. Gotta love the interweb! 🌎
I've been using both, and while I really like both apps, I've been using Nomad a lot more lately. Primarily because of performance (while both are pretty stable, Nomad has crashed a lot less than Forger), but also I find I'm much faster at sculpting in Nomad and I find it a lot easier to edit the brushes / tools to get it to do exactly what I want. I'll likely be sticking to Nomad moving forward :)
Thanks for another great video!
I agree with you 100 percent, I do know the forger developer is working on optimizing forger and a lot of exciting new features but until that happens most of my sculpting will be primarily in nomad. :)
@@aefoundry Oooh. Excited to hear what new features are coming to forger. Is there a list somewhere?
@@PhilMacNevin no details but he was just hinting that there is a lot coming, I think its going to be great for these two programs because both devs listen to the community a lot!
We really come a long way huh? What an amazing raw proof of technology development. My 2000s self would never believe this.
Nomad indeed runs well on my ipad Pro 12.9 inch and is as the host says, very one touch UI simplicity. Very fun and intuitive.
Really looking forward to that Nomad app tutorial! I downloaded it after watching your video but dont know what Im doing haha. I managed to get something somewhat decent sculpted but I would really love to have an in dept video that shows me the true potencial of this app + all the tips and tricks! :)
I look forward to making them, but if your looking for some tips right now, go check out @southerngfx videos, his link should be in the description I know he did a quick video overview on nomad so far :) Happy Sculpting!
Outstanding content, bro. Very thorough. I have both, really digging nomad. Love the “shadowbox”. SouthernGFX pointed out more robust painting on Forger, and posing is very useful, too...best choice is both. (But, hey, I also like putty 3d.) I’m a newbie to 3d and your channel is solid. Love the on screen bullet points...screenshot tutorial notes. We’re out here learning from you...much respect.🙏🎩🎩🎩
Glad you liked it! thanks for the support!
Great video, I love to see a video on your workflow using them in tandem ☺️
I played around with Nomad on my tab s6 lite, and runs amazingly well. If anyone wondering.
Yes, great to hear!!!
I was thinking about buying S6 lite and good to know it handles it well. Thanks
I have tab s6 original. I will try it.
Nomad lets you create transparent materials for glass and such. I don’t think forger has that at least I haven’t found a way. I like the materials in Nomad. Also keeping the mesh as quads is very easy.
You were the push I needed to get nomad.
thanks, i am glad I could help you with that, i still think since i made this video nomad is still the better app to go with.
Thank you so much for sharing! I’m a beginner wants to learn sculpting and after watching ur video I decided to buy nomad first just because I don’t want my iPad to get overheated I want its battery to last as long as possible, besides I think both of the apps are perfectly enough for a beginner
Nice, I'm glad I could help. And when I mention the overheating it doesn't get to hot it never becomes an issue but you can definitely feel one app runs harder then the other.
Sweet. Thanks for the comparison. Have used forger for some time but since Nomads release I haven't really been back on it. Nomad is a serious game changer, better performance, battery life, and interface. Honestly it just seems way more intuitive than Forger. Only time will tell but I think these tablet apps are going to do to Z-Brush what Procreate did to Photoshop.... expose a dated way overpriced subscription model, that's just not needed to do professional level work. Thanks again. looking forward to more videos.
Thanks man, glad this vid is really helping, I never guessed the nomad sculpt dev would be updating so quickly so I will need to do an updated comparison in a few months after some updated patches come in because he is adding tons a great things that make if feel alot closer to zbrush then forger. But I did recently go into forger since some updates went through and now it can handle alot more geo i got one of the base meshes subdivided up to 33 mil before it told me it couldn't subdivide anymore. But that being said. Nomad is way more intuitive!
I decided to buy both, as together it wasn’t to expensive. During the last year I really got into Blender, but my Mid-2015 27” iMac doesn’t really like it. I have a 12.9” iPad Pro 2nd Gen.; it has 3Gb of memory. Opening up Forger, I got a ‘Low-Memory Warning”. I am planning to work on my 2D art and maybe next year I can new devices and work better in 3D. I will still play around these apps in the meantime.
This is a great video and love listening to your opinion. They are both great apps and I am using them both all the time, especially as you can sculpt just about anywhere. And many thanks for a mention in your description, I really appreciate it.
Thanks and any time bro!
Thank you for your honest & very informative review. I've recently using NOMAD & totally amazed! Came across this video @ the right time while doing some research on FORGER. I totally agree with you on alot of points you made for both apps. Nomad is my favorite. I will decide on Forger another time. Much appreciated again!!
Glad I could help, still surprised the video i made so long ago is still getting views. But yea I think for the ipad nomad is still the dominant and better app then forger, especially since they got bought out by Maxxon. Rather support the solo dev that is killin it with all his updates on nomad.
ZBRUSH user here! Only I can say is WoW. Thanks for sharing!
Right?! its a great time being an artist, I am excited to see where these apps go in the future!
But tell us why would you use on iPad
You did a great job at explaining the two. Really informative. Great video.
Thank you I need to update this video because alot has changed. I did do another one review forger apps new UI update so I would go check that out because I briefly compare the 2 again in that video
@@aefoundry You're Welcome. Cool I'll check it out. ,
Thank you so much ! I am deciding which one to get right now - hope Nomad does pivot adjustment for posing - really well explained ! :)
Since the video they have updated pivot and this week they should be releasing another update to do subtractive remeshing which is huge.
Dude your samurai is fin dopeee bro !! Thanks for the content
I've been using Forger for 3 years and there's only been a handful of big features added over that time. Forger is owned and developed by one guy which slows the development of the app. There's been very little time spent on giving artists what they need, rather time wasted on creating pop up and floating menus to compensate for the messy UI. Nomad looks great on its first release which says there's been a good amount of time with the RnD of the app. They've really thought it out which suggests they will be improving the app and may be the first to develop and good painting and rendering system to run on the iPad. I'm sure it won't be long before they bring out masking and an image plane for your reference pics. My suggestion would be to go with Nomad unless you enjoy waiting for things to improve in Forger.
Since i have made this vid the developer has already added all that I had critiques on in the video, and it updating again with subtractive remeshing in the next week or so. In his first 3 update he has all added what artist have been asking for, its amazing, he is a solo developer as well, he used to work for sketchfab i believe so he comes from a 3d oriented background.
And since I started using nomad I haven't touched forger much now that all the additions I need are in there now.
Triple-tapping on modifiers in Forger will lock them, so you can definitely do single handed sculpting.
Also, I think you missed “Sculptris” in Nomad, that alone makes me want to buy the app. I hope Forger adds it soon.
Yea dynamic resolution, I dont personaly use it in my workflow but I know plenty who do.
In the time since posting his, like 5 hours ago, I’ve already switched to Nomad. It has almost everything Forger has, but does it better and easier. And then it has more... so, yeah. I think the Forger dev is also a Blender sculpting dev, so I’m not too worried about him. :)
Man this is an amazing video! I didn't even know Nomad was a thing and I've been using Forger. But there are not that many tutorials for Forger so it's been tough getting to know the app well. I really hope you will make more Forger AND Nomad tutorials, I think you really can snag the mobile sculpting community on youtube and I would love to see more from you!!
Thank you for your kind words, I do hope to put out some good tutorials, right now I am trying to find freelance work to hold me and my family over during this whole pandemic situation. But I hope to get the channel monetized soon so I can just focus on that for you all.
Completely understandable, I really can't wait to see what you put on here! Is there any way to see you make the samurai, it looks so good?!
@@frederiklund7693 I plan on releasing a commentary timelapse with that one and my thought process. It won't be everything because sometimes I briefly forget to hit screen record on my ipad when I start working but I plan on making a vid with all the recording I have of my working on the Samurai once I finish him.
@@aefoundry Awesome man! And please do one on posing in Forger, I just can't seem to get to work properly and it's really holding me back from fully enjoying the app. And thanks for the quick responses!
@@frederiklund7693 will do, and your welcome, the channel is still small enough that I am fortunate and able to build relationships with you all. I look forward to bringing more vids out for you all 😁
Not sure if it was part of Nomad during your review but there is now an extract button for masks so Forger no longer has that advantage. I have used both quite a bit but I prefer Nomad for the easier interface, the better performance, and it does everything that I need to do.
Yea he updated a few features after I uploaded this but forger still has advantage for posing, and thats a huge thing. But talked to the nomad dev and he has that planned in the next coming updates
Great video and comparison. I have both although I've not used Nomad much yet. I agree they are both great apps. By the way since you did this video the new version of Nomad now has reference images as backdrops and a bunch of other features in it's latest update
awesome! Yea I haven't been able to sculpt anything since I posted this due to family reasons the past few days but I am excited to check out the new update! thanks for the heads up :)
@@aefoundry no problem, enjoy your videos. Also just discovered it has the ability to extract a mesh from a masked area like zbrush now.

yup I use it on my note 9 sometimes
Art is life and life is art
most def agreed!!!!
Great comparison, exclusive art apps on iOS used to be miles better than the ones on android.
Typically it would be forger , but nomad flipped the case
totally agree, the past 6 months android has finally been getting quality apps like clip studio for 2d artist ad comic creators and now nomad, the future is bright.
I bought nomad because easily to find tutorials 😀
I'm lost with Nomad. But I'm hanging on.
Check out some of southern gfx videos he has a few good ones with some good tips and tricks. I also have a few with my approach in nomad as well.
Amazing video thank you so so much this helped me out a lot when trying to decide which app to download.
Glad it helped. There has been a few updates on each since I made this video and they have both gotten better
Awesome video! I came here to decide, but at this rate I'm going to end buying both
Enjoy, thanks for the watch and thanks for commenting!
I use both apps too. And I actually use a third one to block shapes in, Sculptura. It’s also the cheapest but the simplest without a doubt - it’s great for creating the basic structure needed to sculpt afterwards however. Then I export and bring into forger (probably nomad from now on). Maybe later bring into ZBrush Core for more detail and later into Blender for retopo!
I wish we had a good retopo / “Poly tool” for iOS. Just something to properly reduce mesh counts and create decent low-res with proper edge flow. I guess it’s too early still to ask for this out of iOS apps!
Nomad is a big step in usability and performance on the sculpting side of things however, far better feeling than Forger for me (on iPhone Forger goes a bit wild on the camera and can barely hold around 3 millions polys/tris). The voxel Remesher always destroys my models’ hands too and fuses their fingers (grid doesn’t have enough resolution essentially). Not with Nomad. It’s way better at both of these things.
You are awesome big big big thanks!
Check out my updated review on my channel I made a few month back
idk about forger app, but nomad works on my chromebook (android version)
I'm so happy cuz to get blender in chromebook i need linux, but both take up almost all my storage. So this is a great replacement in my opinion
Forger is apple only just another plus about nomad is Android support
I just bought Nomad Sculpt and an iPad Pro 2021. That’s how I discovered your channel looking for Nomad tutorials. Are there any tutorials online that are in PDF form?
Unfortunately no, I'm sorry.
@@aefoundry Darn, okay. Hopefully someone will make one eventually. 😥
I did get nomad and yes is possible to have your reference inside the program. I'm been playing with it and it's so smooth . I was trying blender and when it crashes drives me nuts. Over all in nomad I have all I need. But hopefully they come with more export formats.
Yea he added the feature later after I had made this video. The dev works fast nomad is far better then forger now. The forger app is now the one trying to keep up.
I wonder why you are crashing so much in blender I never have an issue and I know when it is going to crash because I know I am pushing it to hard. Interesting to hear why thats happening to you.
im so excited for the world of art!
I just downloaded Forger on my iPad. It was free to download, but they have a monthly cost from a free version, a $1.99/mo, and a $14.99/mo.
I got both , but I’ve got to a point where when I try to cut in to a model on both apps it get all polygonal and doesn’t flow very well( Nomads the best , my iPad is a new iPad Pro ,
Realy like the 2 apps.
Dont get me wrong and dont take it bad, is an awesome video review but can you next time put your camera in manual focus? :D
Yea i know, I put the little comment in the beginning I knew I messed up my setting, with 2 kids living in a studio apartment I don't have much time to record other wise I would have re-recorded the whole thing.
@@aefoundry Oh dude it is fine xD
Btw i had the 2 apps and i was the same opinion as you, the 2 are a must have with them sthreghs and weakness.
Just comenting about the image reference in Forger the plus to have it in the app is that you can put it on backgroud (or on top, i cant remember) and make the mesh transparent so you can use the move brush and make like the reference.
@@IAcePTI yea nomad just added reference images and extraction and the dev is working on posing implementations but the forger dev says he has some big updates coming as well.

This is so great! So i would be able to export these into Maya and rig them there?
Yes but you would still need to retopo them in maya first before rigging.
Forger and was using Wacom tablet w zbrush core. Really great intro into this new app thanks a lot.
Glad you liked it. Happy I could help!
Awesome vid and channel. Thanks!
Random unrelated question: where you get your glasses? trying to find round frames like that myself.

Just tried Nomad on my crappy old Samsung Tab 4..........runs like a potatoe on default sphere on lowest sub-div level. :D My ancient hardware aside Nomad seems solid. Documentation? Haha! Took me all of 5 mins to learn the entire program, but then again, I've been a hardcore Zbrush user since v1.5. :D
Sounds like you need to update that tablet lol. The new 7+ looks pretty dope! And yea since your a zbrush, its pretty easy to get into it.
@@aefoundry Haha! It's the first time I used it in ages. Not recommended to use what is essentially an Ebook to run a Sculpting program. :D I'll check out the 7+. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. Have you tried also to finish/refine the work on ZBrush ? I would like to know if the layers are preserved
No i haven't, I haven't use zbrush since last year when I switch over to Linux. But I do refine in blender.
Is it possible to make a 3d animated short film on the ipad with this app and lumafusion for example? Thanks!
Unfortunately no, these are just for digital sculpting you would still need a desktop to do any rigging or animating.

@@TheCaptainCanada of course no problem. Who knows though in the next year I am hoping more devs make more apps like these and creates something for 3d animation/rigging and more.

Your welcome Lauren I did do an updated review with forger apps new UI i hope to do an updated one on nomad sculpt in the coming months.
@@aefoundry I am going to download Nomad. I have some experience with ZBrush. Currently I have a small project of making low-poly animals. I think Nomad would do the job(?) I will keep an eye on your channel! 👍
Oh nice yea, nomad sculpt will be perfect to sculpt our the hipoly for your characters.
Who use that application on iPhone? Can I use it without stylus, ore better to use iPad?
Better to use on the ipad with apple pencil, I have used it on my galaxy note 9 with the S Pen and it works great!
I'm coming from a PC Platform and I initially learned with the autodesk 2014 creative suite (especially with maya) and worked my way over C4D to Solidworks, when I eventually
ended up in Industrial Design.
So coming from a more technical background where I dealt with parametric and hard surface modelling quite a bit - would you say that nomad in combination
with Procreate would be the better way to go initially?
Mainly looking into creating handpainted stylized props here and I don't really see myself doing that in forger after watching your video.
Conceptually correct? There is no unwrapping in here. But yea if you looking to concept 3d pieces then yea this may work but this is sculpting just liked in forger there is no real hardsurface modeling besides utilizing the trim brush to make some hard surface cuts.
@@aefoundry Thanks for your answer! That was quick!
Yes mainly conceptual.
Being able to get it ready for game engines for some side projects would be a plus.
From what I've read there is a retopo feature in Forger, right?
I figure doing the "hard surface" modeling in nomad and then moving over to forger for retopo and either handpaint it in nomad or take it
over to the PC to marmoset for presentation would be options?
Or does the retopo in forger only work with forger native objects?
Do you know anything about that?
@@DmdMixZ it would still be better to take it out of nomad to something like maya, blender or max with proper retopo tools and uv mapping. Texturing is still something with quirks in nomad, i would check out @southerngfx if he has any tips on texturing. I'm holding out for armorpaint coming out on ipad in the near future to do texturing painting.
Forgers retopo tool is kinda like zremesher in zbrush so you don't really get the best since it's auto and not hand controlled. The geo doesn't come out as clean or optimized. But for concepting quickly and rendering in real time yea the auto retopo can be used for that purposes in marmoset, just dont expect to have edges super clean.
Honestly any of my renders are just my sculpts straight rendered in blenders real-time renderer eevee.
And the auto retopo works on any object you bring in not just native to forger.
Hope that helps!
Very cool
Thank you for this video, sir. 👍🏼
Can i use nomad sculpt without a internet connection?
Would using an ipad 11 inch be a disadvantage for sculpting, is it big enough? Should I rather get an ipad 12 inch ? Thanks
I think it is big enough, but the extra space from the 12 wouldn't hurt either, I have the 11 because that is the largest I can fit in my EDC bag.
Thank you for the video! I draw and paint, but I’m brand new to sculpting. I decided to get Nomad Sculpt, but I’m wondering: is there a way to change the direction of the light source? When I go to the light panel I see you can rotate the environment and do some other random things but I would like to take the light and for example light from below or a specific angle above, as well as change the intensity and type of light if possible (hard/direct, soft/diffuse, etc) thank you again! (Apologies if you addressed this in the video, I’m impatient and skimmed a bit lol)
There is no custom light adjustments currently. The dev is working on it for nomad. But you can import custom HDRI maps to change the environment lighting so if you can find an HRDI image with the lighting you want that would be a work around in the mean time while the dev is working on custom lighting.
@@aefoundry thanks for the quick response! I’ll play around with the photo thing but I hope the lighting feature comes soon, it would be so cool to set up scenes with whatever lighting I want to paint from.
Thanks for the review! I just want to learn sculpting and want to do it easily on my ipad at start. Probably later I’ll try something more complicated. My goal is to prepare a few models for 3d printing :) I think Nomad will work better for me, am I right?
Both of them are great to just make stuff for 3d printing. You can export an stl directly from each software. But i do recommend downloading blender and optimizing the model a bit by decimating it and then scaling it to your liking, giving you more control on the end result.
As far as which one to pick I do recommend nomad over forger, it performs better, and the interaction is much more fluid.
Hope that helps, take your sculpting step by step i plan on adding some lengthy tutorials on here. I do have a few up on my channel making some heads for pinball machines and I talk about my process.
@@aefoundry thank you very much for your response! it is really helpful :) It would be great if you could find the time to create a full tutorial for noobies like me :)
@@aefoundry turned on notifications for your channel 😬
Which one would run better on an older iPad? I plan on using it for 3D printing also I plan on both eventually but I want one to start with, I use mudbox and blender on my mac
I would say nomad it just feels like overall it performs better.
Thanks for this. Looking forward to any tutorial or tips & tricks type content. In the meantime, be good to those girls.
Hello! Animator here looking to get into sculpting in my free time. Thanks for this in-depth comparison! If you needed to resize or move a limb in Nomad, without the mask and move pivot point that Forger has, how would you approach it in Nomad alone?
Nomad just uploaded the gizmo and so that you can adjust the pivot point, the dev for nomad has a video up on his twitter showing how, there should be a button that says adjust pivot now when the gizmo tool is selected.
of course while you mesh is masked.
Ah fantastic, it's progressing fast then! Thanks I'll have to check it out~
I am using both as well. I wanted to ask, do you feel that the clay brush in Nomad is not as nice and "buttery" as in Forger?
I can't quite put my finger on it, but I feel that the Clay brush in nomad is a bit more stepped, and doesn't merge as nicely with previous strokes.
Other than that, I have to say that, if it wasn't for that brush (which is the one I use the most), personally I would prefer Nomad.
A tool I love in Nomad though, is the Flatten in "substract" mode (Fill), it works a bit like clay with zero elevation in zbrush, and it's perfect for cleaning up some bad strokes.
To help a bit with the "stepped" feeling
- lower "stroke spacing" in the Tool panel (it does have an impact on performance though).
- remove the alpha
@@nomad8542 thank you for your reply, really appreciated.
I did found the settings, but I think that every new stroke doesn’t merge with the previous ones as nicely as other clay tools out there. It seems that every new stroke has a sort of bulge added to it.
I tried to disable the “Accumulate stroke” option, and indeed it works much better, although the intensity is always a bit too faint.
On a separate note, I noticed that Flatten in Fill mode is similar to zbrush's clay tool with 0 elevation...
I think that an "elevation" parameter would do marvels to make the current clay brush behave in a more standard way.
Thank you for your awesome software!
I haven't had a problem in nomad, honestly for me the performance perks with nomad over take a brush feel any day. I find I can build out forms a lot quicker since I am pretty messy in the beginning stages. but ill try an do a comparison personally to see what you are talking about :)
@@aefoundry thank you for your help!
Now with the new procreate update, the big thing I’m trying to figure out is what works best with procreate!
Well you will still need a unwrapped model so if one can UV then I guess that one but I dont think the UVs attained will be any good. Also you will need to still retopo you model its just not a drag and drop work flow.
how many polygons can these apps handle and should I get m1 ipad pro the 12.9 inch one I live in Pakistan and we have power cut problems and I am looking for a tablet that can atleast get 50 to 60 percent of my work done.
thank you!
It really depended on the amount of ram, but as far as I know the m1 ipad pro apple has it to were apps are limited to 5gb of ram still you should be able to get about 10-15 million easy.
I have a 2018 pro with 6gb of ram and I push up to 15million
On nomad sculpt
@@aefoundry Thank you so much for responding and clearing things for me! God bless you! I also heard that apple hasn't allowed app devs to go higher than 5 gb ram usage but the creators of procreate have said that once that restriction is removed they'll release an update that'd utilize the full capacity of 8 gb and 16gb models but I think 15 mil polygons is more than enough for now.
Going to start sculpting on the iPad soon. My question is are you able to the iPad like a Wacom tablet? Meaning if I connect the iPad to a larger display would I still be able to sculpt on the iPad screen even if the screen is mirrors the display. Or would I just need to use a actually Wacom hooked up to a “hub”
yea that works
I have Nomad on my andriod and its running smoothly..
yup it runs surprisingly smooth even on a phone it runs great, I have a galaxy note 9 and it runs flawlessly.
Will nomad run well on iPad seven gen?
That's what I have but I want to try nomad. I have forger and it works well enough, I juts try to keep projects small just in case.
If it can run forger it will definitely run nomad
I came here to learn about nomad, but I have to ask. Where did you get your glasses?
Hahaha thanks, I got them from eyebuy direct.
Thanks for the information. Can obj be imported? to make retopology in other software and import it?
totally! I do it all the time if I need to :)
Hey Great video! thanks a lot for all that information, I made my mind and I'll go for Nomad Sculpt, super nice people started making this king of software and we can work more time in front the pc and have more options to work on the go, or just in your couch!!!
Thanks man, glad I could help 😁
Can you make an updated video for these comparisons?
There is one with the forger new ui review I talk about both in there
But to be honest now with the new lighting system nomad is still top.
@@aefoundry Ahh Will check those out. Been struggling to choose cos Forger ui is very intuitive and simple like Procreation which really made for ipad but i love nomad creator too as previously i used sculptris and its really easy to pick up. Anyway Thanks for your videos! Keep up the good works!
Also...pardon me...is the Nomad app friendly? Like...is the skill gap ginormous? Can a newbie like me be able to handle this Nomad apps?
Yea it is more user friendly then forgerapp is. Outside of the app you should study shape and form plus anatomy to help becauas the tool wont make you good the practice will 👍.
@@aefoundry woah! Thank you for the quick reply!
Ooooh I see. So relying on references in order to do good, just like how I do on Procreate :0
Thank you again. Much appreciated 🙏🙏🙏
@@minhha8981 of course no worries man! Glad I can help.
@@aefoundry :3 👍
Would you recommend a 3D printer that works with the app and iPad?
I dont know of any specific slicing software for the ipad but as long as you can export an STL file which both apps do now. Any 3d printer should do fine, now if you want a specific recommendation I would go with the updated phrozen mini that was recently released but you will still need a desktop to make the final print file from the slicing software. In this case with phrozen its chitubox.
Does Nomad also export obj format or just gLTF..and can either of them export as FBX
Yes obj too, just read the documentation on the website, its been a bit since I check but the dev is always adding new features so I wouldn't be surprised if he has added more formats.
Hey guyss!i have a question, can i import my model into nomad to Sculpt, like if i model a stone pillar
And then import it to nomad to Sculpt
Will it be just fine to work with??
Yea it just needs to be an obj
Hi guys, I'm going to be traveling next year and would really love to have this on me at trains or airports, etc. while I wait. What tablets are you guys using for this, on the move? Thanks
Well forger is just on the ipad so if you want to use that you would need to stick to one of the ipad or pro models from the recent years, if you choose to use nomad then that opens up alot with Android tablets. Preferably something from Samsung with the S pen in the last year or so. Like a tabs S6 or 7
@@aefoundry Hi there, thank you for the quick reply! I am so out of the loop I didn't even think of regular tablets, thought you might need some powerful wacom pro for mobile tablets use with pens :D I wlil check them out, thank you sir
@@philmehrart no problem! yea no these are apps specifically made for tablets, that's what make them so great for artist on the go, they might not have all the features something like zbrush has but its enough to get pro like sculpts done, and then you can export them and transfer them to your computer later to add more details if need be. So yea for trips like your planning it would be awesome!
Since most people use ipad pro, can I use well forger on ipad air 4?
Yes the ipad air 4 is plenty strong enough
Seems like it's Nomad FTW. Plus, who knows what's going to happen to Forger now that the C4D guys bought them.
yea and nomad always is adding features and fixing bugs, I feel like it wasn't till nomad came out that forger even gave updates the entire year I had it. plus now with C4D could bring some exciting stuff I do fear about some weird pricing model or paywall coming in the future for forger app
@@aefoundry Exactly...another reason just to standardize on Nomad and call it a day. I've just gotten in to it, but what I've experienced so far has been completely amazing. I have a 2nd gen iPad Pro and I'm thinking maybe I need to upgrade.
@@AndyTanguay yea sounds like it, I have a 2018 version with 6gb of ram so its been holding strong I am waiting to see the next pro model before I upgrade, I hope they add more ram like 8 or 10 would nomad a beast! ram has been the limiting factor since the processors are just monsters at computing.
Hello. Can either forger or nomad be used with ipad mini 5 2019 version? I cant find info on this. I know ipad mini 5 has apple pencil capability but i dont know if nomad or forger works on ipad mini 5?
I think you should be able to. I would recommend going with nomad for sure with an older unit.
Hi thanks for good video! I wonder whether ipad air 4 is not enough for this & other 3d sculpting app or not.
the new ipad air is plenty to sculpt with.
Hey thank you, your Video was a big help for me but. I have another question. Is Nomad or forger can do 3d animation?
Neither can you need to use a secondary software like blender to do that.
I have an iPad 6th gen.is it too bad ram size for any good sculpting app?
You can still use the sculpting apps it may just limit how many polys you can push in 1 file but you should be okay to start using it.
Up the irons!
Can these sculpts be imported into z brush or blender?
Yes
Do you have any app for windows other than blender for 3D??
No because 1. Blender can do pretty much anything i need it to. And 2. I am no longer using windows and just on linux
@@aefoundry thanks anyway!
Omg nomad has shadow box?!
Yea its pretty similar
@@aefoundry I found it to be no where near as good as zbrushes
But the rest of the app is fine haha
@@bluethumbbuttoneek9465 well its not going to replace zbrush, this is just a supplemental tool to use on the go, i have been a zbrush user for over 10 years and this is the closest it has been on a tablet. That is what I mean when I say its zbrush like.
It doesn't have all the functionality that zbrush has but for the basic in sculpting its great.
Great video :). A few questions, did you also notice a huge resolution reduction while moving/rotating the mesh in Nomad Sculpt? It’s very distracting.
Is this normal? can it be fixed? I did not notice any of this with Forger.
if there is i havent noticed but I do believe if I remember correctly there is there is s slider under render resolution under the setting/COG tab in the menus by default its set to 1.25 so just boost it up from there.
i also think its set that way to help performance stay great at higher poly counts.
@@aefoundry Thanks. I’ll give it a try. I’m using an old 2015 iPad Pro, so that might be it.
@@elemento_arts oh wow yea could be older hardware, just be careful if it is the older version if you set it to high might tank your performance not sure though, like i said it has never bothered me so I never change it.
@@aefoundry Ok, I can confirm this only happens over subdivision level 5 (sphere), no matter the resolution input. Kind of disappointed. Hopefully it’s my older device, but still, Forger handles it amazingly smooth.
UPDATE:
Found a way around it. It’s a life saver for my workflow. The solution is never to use “Multiresolution” (it’s what trigger that little pause of pixels while moving the camera). Instead, use “Voxel remeshing” and choose the resolution you want. The result is a perfect “non movement pixel” mesh with nice focus and no distractions. Hope this helps someone in a similar situation.
Amazing video thanks
if you watch the whole video you will see I show more then my face.
Random internet fool
Which one of the apps exports the model with it’s normals and UV unwraps ? I want to sculpt and be able to export normals for texturing in procreate so which of them supports that ?
Non of these apps have the ability to bake normals but forger app has auto UVs capability, but... they are not the cleanest UVs I would learn how to retopo and create your UVs in something like blender and bake your normals in there.
does this app need 6G or can i run it on my 7th gen ipad thats has only 3G ram?
The ram just limits how much geometry you can have in your scene. But will run no problem on 3gb. The 7th gen should have no issue
Can you print that w/o using a mac or computer or can you layout (on ipad) and save it to a sdcard and print?
you would still need to send it to a slicing software before printing but you can export and STL directly
Hey! For someone looking to get into 3D sculpting would you recommend an iPad Pro? I'm aware a PC would perform better but I prefer the idea of not having to sit at a desk
If your looking to stay under 1000 and ipad pro isn't a bad idea but how much 3d do you want to get into. Are you just sculptinf for 3d print ?
@@aefoundry Mostly characters for 3D games but nothing super realistic or detailed. I've been looking at PCs recently but 1000 would be my upper limit and I'm not sure I'd get a machine powerful enough to be worth it for that price. And honestly I just like the appeal of working on an iPad
@@xboxgamersmk there is nothing really set all for the ipad to do game character it is more a supplemental tool then an all in one workflow.
I would get your pc first.
@@aefoundry that makes sense! I think I'm just looking for an excuse to get an iPad because it feels like a more exciting purchase but I'll stick with a PC, I appreciate the advice!
@@xboxgamersmk that will be the next purchase, but with the new iPad for 329 you can totally run nomad sculpt, from seeing some others use the normal iPad with it.
Will these apps work for an ipad with 3GB RAM?
It will, at that point it just depends how old ur 3gig model is. Because its also depends a bit on which processor. From what I can tell I think anything older then the a10 chip it won't run well.
I’m new to this how do you render your sculptures
Sorry for the late reply. But it really depends if I do it straight out of nomad or forger or do I take it into an external program like blender and time to setup proper lighting. But really don't worry about lighting to much. If you are trying to sculpt focus on that since your new. Take it a step at a time and you will grow faster then spreading your self thin trying to figure it all out at once.
how about on ipad 6th gen? does this app do well in the 6th gen ipad? or will it lag like a mad man?
As long as you can use the apple pencil well you should be able to use it. Nomad especially i feel the performance would be better on lower end ipads
@@aefoundry thanks for the reply. yes i do have a 1st gen apple pencil for my 6th gen ipad, i just wanna know the performance of forger or this Nomad app on this older gen ipad like the 6th gen because, i wanna sculp on my bed or when just chilling on the sofa and stuff, i use blender daily so i would love to have some portable on the go sculpting. thanks bro
Hi, I used to do Zbrush on PC. I have just got a iPad Air 4 with a 256GB that support Pencil2. Can that works well with Nomad? Will the files be able to export to my PC based Zbrush?
