How about, what Cummins has done into the reliability of the emissions system and what has improved to keep this engines/ trucks out of the shop because of Emission system related problems!? thanks.
How do you guys go to sleep at night? Have a 2013 ISX15 with 320k miles and it's the biggest turd ever? Takes 1.5 to 2.5 gallons of oil every 3k miles. No power at all I mean at all!!! Can't break 7mpg no matter how I drive it. And nothing but DPF issues. Taking it to Cummins this Monday coming up see what happens. My 2001 Detroit S60 12.7 runs circles on this ISX15. Seen all your you tube videos on how great the 2010 engines were going to be before I got it and man what a mistake. Maybe should have gone with the maxxforce13
I'm sure they sleep quite well, as they are making a killing off of the backs of drivers and owners. I have an ISX in my Volvo and I know it's a ticking time bomb. Hope the Cummins shop you brought yours to delivered good news. But I'm guessing probably not.
TheFerraritech Yeah they did a inframe under warranty. Replaced my cam under warranty too. Fuel pump plungers took it out they also replaced 6 intake rockers. I Had to pay for a turbo a DPF filter and 40% of the new style fuel pump and line upgrade.
9 times out of 10 when i read consumer complaints it's usually operator error and its usually ridiculously stupid human error that they blame on the manufacturer.
2 problems I see with this 1)your on a test track. even with empty twin 48' trailers, I was getting 9.2-11.1 mpg(60 series Detroit) empty weight of 51,000 lbs. in 1994.. 2)1100 rpm is great on flat ground. gearing that high will cause an immediate shift on any incline; and very little use on/of the engine braking, rendering it useless. cummins engines have been my choice, due to the fact that they were the only engine manufacturer to allow a heavy lug.. i.e. less shifting.. the crowning jewel was the N-14.. seems like the ISX loves to eat O2 sensors. at $400 a pop, that's not cost effective..
just a little kid bit about the afterteatment system on trucks with a cummins diesel engine. the reason why we have egr is to cool cylinder temperatures to reduce NOx. that was mandatory in 2007. in 2010 they made us put a dpf on to reduce particulate matter, then in 2013 the epa said we can not put out NOx. so we added the SCR system and DEF to removed NOx and only put out N2, H2O, and small amount of CO2 and other harmless gasses. i work for cummins and know what i am talking about. you lose old jedi!
uh... what's your gear ratio how many rpm are you running ? And last I checked Wyoming was a bit hilly,.. the flat track is for a base line number to compare to other engines and power train set ups, you'll hear guys piss and moan and say all kinds of shit about mpg numbers but there's so many variables involved , terrain, wind, trans and rear ratios, driving habits etc, you can tell a guy hey I get 7-8 mpg running 65 and hell say he gets that doing 75 all time, but yeah ok buddy what he's not telling you is he's a bull hauler or something else they has 30- 40 percent dead head miles or never pulls more then 30,000 In the box and never leaves the flat land of Texas, there's so many Jack ass's out here that want to believe their own bullshit so badly and that they know more them anyone else with their trailer park degree that reality is beyond them, that new Cummins is the ticket of you want big power and to get up the hill, 605 hp, 2050 torque, it's a work horse match it right with the right trans and rear ends for what you do and you'll be off and running, but at 80 mph it's not going to matter what you run your going to be pissing your profit away In fuel.. 605 hp and 2050 torque you can set that cruise for 68-70 And still get up those hills and get decent mpgs, it's not always what you drive it's how you drive.
have they fixed the delayed engine braking when u let off throttle on a 18sp 600hp truck? our 2008 isx15 600hp with a 18sp is horrible with the 2-3sec delay when i let off throttle! u cant jake shift it either on the short hills when u loaded down with a 100k + , Yes ive had the dealer try to adjust it, its maxed out! still no good! ill take the old 2001 truck with the 550CAT, Such a better motor for heavy haul
Yeah alot of these rebuilds are because drivers not keeping up with manitance of the engine. Just like any engine diesel or gas. You don't keep up with the manitance on them and it will fail. Pretty simple common sense thing to do.
You couldnt pay me to own another come apart 4 EGR valves in les than 50 thousand miles 2 turbos in 100 thousand miles 2 oil coolers in 100 thousand miles bearings and rings in just over 150 thousand and cummings refused to pay for anything and dont forget the back firing while up shifting on a pull
prove it,.. it's only physics, naw the engineers and the designers that spend millions in research and development and years testing shit couldn't possibly know wtf they're talking about.
18 years of fuel downloads to their theory. money talks and your numbers walk arty.. u sound like a mad little math boy.. one word smart boy origami... it confuses physics ... please don't reply until you have spent more than 1,325,000 in fuel costs and wasted poor theory on low rev gearing... thank u for you wasted and useless comment though..
bob10mm I've got over 3 million miles to my career bud and have spent my fair share on fuel, I've run them up and down and there's no way you're going to tell me that you'll burn less fuel running at 1500 rpm then at 1200 , all things being equal same load level road same ratios same trans, to get more rpm you have to give it more fuel correct ? Ease up on the throttle and you get less rpm put your foot down on throttle you get more rpm, so trailer park king what happens when you put your foot down on throttle , oh yeah it pumps more fuel into three engine, hmmm, I believe that's the way is worked for over a hundred years now , unless you've got some fancy engine you made at the back of the trailer park you're not telling us about ?
Load plays just as much of a role in fuel consumption as RPM, an engine obviously doesn't only adjust fueling based solely on RPM. So that statement is definitely true, fuel consumption is an extremely nuanced issue.
People, people, people... Load on the engine makes the motor increase rpm to cover load, your foot controls the max air input so to avoid slowing to a halt, you need to increase fuel consumption by adding air. If you are on a fixed gradient (say 6%) and can use either Gear 7 or G8 to drive at say 40 mph indefinitely; your fuel consumption in 8'th gear is always going to be better than 7'th. If you are loosing power in G8 then you must downshift to G7 to be able to maintain speed. It's very very simple. If the rig can drive at the same speed with lower rpm, then all the better. One thing though, is that lower rpm doesn't prevent torsional damage such as harmonic imbalances which can destroy seals & fasteners such as sensors
agree Darrel ward about performance version, If I bought new emission truck, I'd rather go x15 performance. We will mise you Darrel. Rest In Peace. God bless and watch over his family.

The issue for diesel lovers no matter what make of engine, we have no issue with EPA regulations trying to make engines cleaner, but does these new engines suck the soot back into the engine? like EGR system do, this is the main issue for everyone as it kills the engine, engines are expensive to repair.

What Darrel didn't mention is that at 75 mph the fuel mileage sucks. He'd be lucky with 80k on the back to get 4mpg.or less with that big engine.
Look they added spark plugs LOL
