Back in the good old days you actually used to be able to extinguish your light source... This is how you could lure people to the giant mole and have them put it out
next to the staff shop in varrock there is still a spooky caldron left over from the Halloween event, not sure if there are anymore if it was forgotten after the event
The fire makes sense for the model, it might be hardcoded onto that item model that these "fireplaces" were only found in fremmenik areas as they only started showing up after the Fremmenik Trials was released
A small thing i noticed once. If you venom a Rock Slug in the lumbridge caves, it will continue dying untill a update day on wednesday. It's mechanic where it cannot die without rock salt, and venom reapplying itself will make a continous loop for its death, it will "die" every 20 seconds for an entire week if that is your wish :)!
Regarding that first Cave Goblin scenario: you end up near them if you fail the 3rd direction option during The Lost Tribe (you get sucked into the ground and are stranded about 10 tiles away from the Cave Goblins if you go west instead of south just past the bone bridge). This extinguishes your lightsource (I think you previously also had a chance of losing it - but that may be from failing a different obstacle in that same 'maze'). This can end up saving you if you have previously talked to them - or consciously walk up to them and space bar. I love how this is now getting found/'rediscovered' in OSRS specifically because of the eternal fire! Update: Could not find an interaction that takes your torch, not even from going immediately north from the small tunnel past the brooch and getting swept into the water - but I did test it on one of my test accounts and found that you can totally tell the goblins you're not going to hurt them, and then get the torch off them, all in time before the bugs become a nuisance :).
I don't recall, but has it always been the case that you couldn't extinguish or drop your light source? Or was that an added safe-guard after light sources and these goblins were introduced?
@@tehroflcopters You could previously drop them. The drop protection was added as a measure against luring. These goblins and the quest have existed for far longer (though they were not added at the same time - the goblins were added before the quest, I don't know whether them handing out torches was released with the quest or before to later be an interaction during the quest) - in fact, the method to extinguish someone's candle by making them walk into one of these dorgeshu'un 'cave tunnel maze' mud slide traps still works to this day.

Not sure if this counts, but here is an obscure glitch: Do the werewolf agility course while equipping any weapon that changes your walk animation. After climbing the skull slope, you will go back to having a normal walk/run animation until you change what you have equipped or teleport. You can still leave the agility course and go through the paterdomus temple (but not the agility shortcut next to it) and keep the normal walk animation. I like equipping the giant boulder, because it ends up covering your head in a normal walk animation, making it look like the giant boulder is your head.
The clip of the hellcat in the barrows clip reminded me of a fun fact, its actually on the wiki but I don't think its common knowledge... If you have a rat slayer task you can kill hell-rat behemoths with your cat underneath Evil Dave's house to complete your task. They give 7 slayer exp per kill. Not sure if there is much of a practical use, perhaps just multitasking some very low level slayer while collecting spices?
You could drop or extinguish your light source before. Your light source can also go out a lot closer to them by failing the agility shortcuts or by doing the things they were place there for. If you take the wrong route through the cave goblin mines during lost tribe, you can fall and get spit out here. Leaving you with plenty of time to talk to them.
If you tele away from the gorak plane on the same tick that a gorak dies, the drop will come from the gwd gorak loot table instead of the gem drop table. Not too useful but might fit one of your vids if it doesn't get patched :) love the content my man, keep it up!

UNUSUAL MONEY MAKER!!!!!: When doing the underground pass quest on a account that has never done it before, there is a part of the quest where you can kill guys that look like chaos druids, I believe they are called "Iban's followers" or something like that. This is the one and only time you can kill an NPC and it has a 100% drop rate for a zamorak robe set. It's around 4k for a single robe set and you can kill as many as you want so long as you haven't finished the quest. Could be a decent unusual money maker? I hope you look into it if you do another Unusual Money Maker episode.

Hans teleporting back to his "respawn tile" is a mechanic shared by other NPCs as far as I know. If you get NPCs outside of their "allowed areas" and then they proceed to get stuck on a single tile and are unable to move, they will teleport back to their spawn tile after five minutes of being unable to move. Try timing it with Hans, I wonder if this ancient mechanic I found while playing Runescape 3 dates back to 2001!
@@bonuscomment2492 I believe so, before learning of the world with the splasher, I would trap ardy knights inside houses by the ardy market, and they would either straight up walk through a wall to return to the market (they will walk through walls) or just disappear and respawn somewhere else. Not sure if they still exist, but there were also two other NPCs around Lumbridge called Gee and Donnie I think that also had the retreat mechanic, just like Hans.
Also interestingly the shayzien and pest control general store has a much smaller change in price per item in stock than basically all other stores in the game, so if you're trying to sell 50 of an item per world hop (like a rune arrow), those 2 are actually the best shops to sell to.
i actually remember the old heads from when i first got members as a kid ... didn't even know there was a quest there till years later i just found them after first getting lured there and then after exploring the cave when someone finally told me you needed a candle to go in 😂
During Pirate's Treasure, you can't leave the island with the bottle of rum by teleporting as the bottle will break. However, if you happen to get the step at the Karamja Plantation during the Wanted! quest, Solus Dellegar can teleport you to Camelot without the bottle breaking.
2:24 I'm pretty damn sure you were able to extinguish the light source in the past, either by yourself or by falling into the swamp water that leads to the Tears of Guthix Minigame. So its not so cryptid that someone would find those goblins in the dark without a light source and have them give you one. They seemed to be located pretty close to the rock where a player would normally fall and turn off the candle. It just was probably never recorded because, why would you record it?
Not the most interesting, but after the bar maids were added to the Grand Exchange games area, the bar maids in the Burthorpe Games Room claim they they do not sell drinks if you try to buy drinks from them via dialogue. Despite this, you can still trade them for drinks. The bar maids at the Grand Exchange, however, do not have the trade option.
What I like about this video is how fast he launched into an advertisement and how quickly his pitch was followed by some non-skippable third party advertisements.
Pretty sure many knew the unlit torch thing. You could lose your light source by falling into the water by the frogs so was an option (albeit not amazing) to get one back. Could be my memory is hazy though!
the fremennik fire part is most likely, as you said, just a copied fire from another Fremennik building, still having the original data. I have seen it happen in multiple other games where something like that happens. For example in WoW, in one of the new zones in DF some of the rivers will kill mechanical pets (if you're a hunter and use them) with a debuff from wintergrasp (an old pvp zone from Wrath of the lich king). The water there was supposed to kill player driven tanks, that in the gamefiles count as a player pet when used and ofc being mechanical.
Re: the cave goblins, could you maybe put your light source in a looting bag on a pvp world? That’s a possible oversight which would allow you to get the dialog
You don't even need to world hop to get the monks to kick you off, just walk on the west coast of the island. That's a different "region" on the world map, and for some reason programmed differently.
I've been watching your videos for years. I have always wondered, what kind of soup? Chicken, broccoli, minnistrone? Or are you a ramen... What is it Mr. Soup
6:25 Not to toot my own horn, but this one isn't too uncommon I'd think. I saw this one time specifically *because* it's an npc you can talk to that also has an idle action/animation input. So I thought "I wonder if I can be silly and still have him 'talk to me' while he's visually mining... you wait long enough and you see that it CAN be done, how silly! Then you'll notice that the chathead now looks strange, if you initiate dialogue again, that's when you notice it's actually just different/older :)
Random one I noticed recently is the gnome benches in POH swivel around when your butler talks to you. Wonder if other chairs in the game are moveable like this?
All POH chairs do this. The way the sitting animation works actually moves the chair (or one tile of it for benches) and is basically "glued" to your character until you get up. So if you find a way to rotate your character without getting up it can cause some funny stuff
I've seen countless of these runescape facts videos, all of which fail to impress me. Soup, you killed it with this one! How awesome is it that 20 years later we still find unknown stuff about this game!
Little correction to the goblins. Back in the days you could extinguish/drop your lightsource, that was even pretty common way to scam peolple for their stuff.
For number 1, you used to be able to drop your own light or even trade it to another player while being in the goblin tunnels or where i was tricked in the mole tunnel under fally, there used to be a few scams where people could get you to lose your light and die
I actually ran by those cave goblins not that long ago doing Rag and Bone Man 2. The quest puglin on RL told me to go to that area of the cave . If you attack them, they call out for help. (Just saying. Many people have probably run by them because of the quest helper)
The first one. If you have the candle or a lit torch and attack the cave slime there is a chance upon killing it that they will explode causing the open flame light source to extinguish then you will have enough time to talk to the goblin.
I've actually ran into the cave goblin miner chathead thing before but I did not know how to replicate it happening. I did it on Rs3 though and it still works over there too, just tested it.
I thought this was going to be a very elaborate video, and at the end you were going to go to the cave goblins with a mind helmet and make a mind goblin joke. Missed opportunity.
So with regards to Clue scrolls on Entrana. the loot was changed and when you roll a weapon/armour you no longer receive a different roll but receive a -Null- roll which means you get nothing. (Don't hunt godpages at entrana anymore).

It's possible there were no cave bugs at some point in development. So the cave goblin would just help an annoyed player lost in darkness with no home tele at the time. For that matter, do we know for sure the cave bugs were there since the caves were released? It may have been a silent patch that broke the easter egg.
How about a breakdown of some weird trivia of some content in OSRS that relates to non-OSRS content, like Wesley Crusher or Ping and Pong’s ‘more cowbell’?

So I thought "I wonder if I can be silly and still have him 'talk to me' while he's visually mining... you wait long enough and you see that it CAN be done, how silly! Then you'll notice that the chathead now looks strange, if you initiate dialogue again, that's when you notice it's actually just different/older :)
Great video, please make more of these as and when you find out more Easter eggs
I didn't know this, BUT in the corrupted gauntlet, you can fill you empty vials in corrupted fishing pools as wlel as the faucet.
I didnt know this!

Soup: and that's a....
Matpat: GAME THEORY! THANKS FOR WATCHING
7:43 "can lead to wacky scenarios" while getting whacked with a stale baguette 🤯
;)
Omg i remember making a Reddit post a while back about the hans thing, made people think he secretly attended ham meetings
Poor Hans gonna be traumatized by all of that bullying
Time Rune, Soul Rune, Reality Rune, Mind Rune... Just need a Power Rune...
Did you forget Space Rune?
Funnily enough, the life rune alter was brought into RS3 as a parody in a certain quest, themed around you getting a life.
the hunter guy with the bird is from fremennik thats why the house looks like that and also the fire
@9:23 How is it useful exactly to ironmen? :DDDDDDD
absolute banger of a video soup damn
So with regards to Clue scrolls on Entrana. the loot was changed and when you roll a weapon/armour you no longer receive a different roll but receive a -Null- roll which means you get nothing. (Don't hunt godpages at entrana anymore).
Boy am I so glad that I can go under Lumbridge to speak to those Mine Goblins
This was fun to watch!
the dagger smuggling is wild
Back then rs wasnt on training wheels. You could drop light sources.
can anyone tell me the song that starts at 9:15 when he’s talking about the pest control and shayzien stores? it’s so pretty, reminds me of the drift net fishing area song
Here ya go! - ruclips.net/video/ICxC2KDUXW8/видео.html
@@SoupRS thanks chief nice one :D
Would a Random Event allow you to stop your light source? Would be a method to talk to the goblin for the first time and get a torch.
possibly Leo. you could be taken to the grave digger instance and use the deposit box to store your torch and then finish the random or ask to return
Great Video Man!!!!
Hey soup just came across an odd moneymaker for you. If you combine raw sardines and doogle leaves to make seasoned sardines you can profit roughly 700 gp per seasoned sardine
Soup I played in 2005 back then got lured here it was instant death when you could extinguish the light source!
Can you alch the torch / candle thing in the first section of the video?
For the 1st one, if you log out the bug damage timer resets. I found this out when I did contact! and forgot a light source.
in gotr, is mining guardian parts, or guardian remains make a difference?
Wow Soup, very informative video, I really enjoyed it!
I love this style of video
I felt bad having to kill those cave goblins during Rag and Bone Man 2 lol
13:37
What da faq... Goddamn Christmas Crackers? The ones with the blue party hat? Seriously? :O
I guess the cave goblins are also supposed to help if you fall in the water and extinguish your torch maybe?
the old chat head model is actually insane.
11:15 consider turning adblock off on the wiki he says, while using adblock on the wiki
Player: Hey @JagexAsh do you ever think we could get a quest that gives more backstory on the wise old man other than the little bit of the wise young man that we got in making friends with my arm ?
Jmod Ash: Have you met Elsie in Varrock ? Bring her a cup of tea and she'll tell you a story...
They made that an achievement diary task in RS3 back in 2007 (a month after oldschool's backup)
It's possible there were no cave bugs at some point in development. So the cave goblin would just help an annoyed player lost in darkness with no home tele at the time. For that matter, do we know for sure the cave bugs were there since the caves were released? It may have been a silent patch that broke the easter egg.
How about a breakdown of some weird trivia of some content in OSRS that relates to non-OSRS content, like Wesley Crusher or Ping and Pong’s ‘more cowbell’?
my man tried to help hans by using a baguette
Dark/glowing dagger + holy water from legends quest are pretty obscure. Most people just skip past these and use regular weapons.
I’ve been using Holy Water as my bank tab icon for potions/herbs for almost 15 years now. They look so cool.
are we able to bring runes to entrana and cast fire blast on the monks?
It sounds like the bugs attacking you is because the insects in the dark wernt initially thought of until later, hence the goblins.
We love soup!
Surprised you didn't cover the mind goblin, Soup.
It's assuming you get a random event the mystery box and have a box replace your candle.
