I'm ashamed that (as big as a Prince fan as I've always been) I had to look her up to see who she actually was. I think that when I saw her in photos, I just thought she was probably Lisa Coleman sporting a different look than I was accustomed to seeing her in. She was actually quite beautiful, and it looks like they played that up a lot in their stage act. Then again... she also bares a striking resemblance to Tina Marie as well, which might've been another factor at work. Hmmm!
Gayle seemed to really enjoy herself on this interview. You did a great job with her. Keep up with the interviews, your doing a fab job. Thanks for sharing.....
I 💕 always 💕 thought that Prince and Gayle were in love ❤️ back in1979 l thought back at that time that Prince wrote the song Wanna be Your 💕 Lover for Gayle because their 💕 were Pictures of Prince ❤️ kissing Gayle in the mouth like real 💕 lovers kiss 💋 so I thought Prince dedicated his Second album to Gayle Chapman she was young and pretty and Prince was young and handsome they were very attractive and awesome musicians both were young beautiful ❤️ Super star 🌟 they would have been great together they had so much in common they worked so well together l was a fan of theirs back then l was in middle school in 1978 an eighth grade band student playing my instrument the clairnet we 💕 played Rick James song Give it To Me Baby in our marching band in 1978 and Prince and Rick James came to Saginaw Michigan my home town on April 8 1980 for the Fire Up Tour my Sophomore year of highschool when l was 16 years old in 1980 so l grew up listening to Prince all of my young teenage years l 💕 love Gayle and Prince together best band ever God Bless Gayle Chapman for representing our generation and for being our voice 💕 for that generation of fans which included myself and for representing Prince for those forgotten years that most ❤️ people now casually over look like 💕 it really did not matter much but we are here and it all mattered and is important as well this is Geraldine Walker from Saginaw Michigan
I couldn’t recognize Gayle Chapman by her name, I guess due to the fact that before the dirty mind era there wasn’t a widely known band name. But Gayle feels like an energy that I would enjoy to have around in my life.
Finally got around to watching the interview. Great conversation. I think that there was a lot unearthed for folks like me who got into Prince just a little bit after the Revolution but noticed on American Bandstand "hey, that's not Lisa" :). But you know me, I LOVE finding out Prince-related stuff before he became a mega-star. I'm sorry that I was 2 years late to the party, but good stuff my man!
I remember seeing Gayle with Prince on the Rick James tour. (They destroyed him! 😂) For some reason something about her look and her voice reminds me of Bonnie Raitt.
Wow, this was a great interview! Gayle is a riot!! Very witty and charismatic. First one to leave Prince wow, what an experience. She seems like a real multi-faceted fierce woman. Very entertaining to watch. Your good at this!
What a great interview! Loved it when she said Prince was primarily a rocker. For so long I’ve related to people that Prince was a rocker first and foremost. So many of us Bus Boys/Funkadelic/Mother’s Finest rockers got turned on to Prince because you could feel that in his music. He grew into funk, although he was always a balladeer. That first band had a Rolling Stones/Aerosmith vibe...he even tied a scarf around the mic stand. He was coming full circle with 3rd Eye Girl b4 he passed. Was great to hear that from Gayles lips! PF I hope one day you do a episode about those LA Coliseum Rolling Stones concert. I always wondered why they didn’t match Prince with The Talking Heads or some other New Wave act.
Sooooo Awesome!!! I love ❤️ her ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the hair omg flip 💁 back in the day. She rocked it! American bandstand has a good RUclips video she's in. My favorite is when she sings " if I love ❤️ u tonight" I love her version the best. This is amazing! Love it 😍wonderful.
Holy Cow Man! All Hail Gail 🙌🏽...U were so adorable with her ☺️... this is legendary cool interview ✌🏼...original versions are always the best...Prince brought out the best in all his artists...beautiful interview of the original Prince and “the beginnings” and “the whys”... younger audiences don’t truly understand Prince was a visionary who “scientifically” molded his bands into performances that changed the way people looked at live music...
Interesting ive realised while watching this that its like listening to a female Prince! Not just her answers but the dry DRY humour too... she definitely warmed to you over the course of the interview - props to your interviewing ability
After this interview I found the The Rebel album online. After hearing it. You can hear why Prince abandon the project. The ideas weren't stellar. I mean Gayle is not a bad singer. Back then she was still finding her voice. Prince if he had more patience probably could've made that happen. But, he instinctively knew that putting out Band at the time, instead of focusing on his opportunity as a new member of the Warner Bros. family ,could be costly. The ideas wasn't bad.
Oh my can't believe I am just catching up on this Innerview but we all know as they say better late than & we know the rest, however, I really really love this 1 also just as any of the others ... I really love the raw feel ere at least that is what I felt since this of course Gayle yes 1 of the pioneers if we can say of the budding Purple 1 we all here have grown 2 love & still love within our hearts as the days & years continue on (Purple Shall never Die) & we continue 2 learn more & more of what made P.R.N. so interestingly Loveable in all his forms even when we didn't quite understand his Vision or Path at times & that is just it ... It was & always shall be that His Vision he wanted 2 share with in which ever way he wanted 2, through whom and or whatever AVENUE was available which Leads him & us Home ... thanks again PF 4 this 1 & may all remain Blessed & Well with U & all here ... I still feel we have a long way 2 go :-) ...
This interview, along with so many others, kind of makes me sad. It's easy to see how many were absorbed into and drowned out by Prince's light. It wasn't his fault as he definitely tried to shine light on others, but his own light was just SO bright that those talented and skilled performers in his circle didn't have a real chance to ever be seen. Even in listening to her interview, I struggle because I want to hear more about Prince, and she understandably wants to talk about herself. But people aren't tuning-in to hear about a realtor in Boise, Idaho with political interests. People are tuning-in to hear about a very private, musical God...a musical God who's serendipitous encounter and presence drowned-out the musical success of a now realtor in Boise, Idaho. She's not alone as it seems many of Prince's inner circle suffered similar "normal" fates after having experienced the extraordinary. And I get the real sense that knowing Prince and working with him was both an unforgettable blessing and an unforgettable curse for those that also wanted to be seen and loved for their own merits.
I can see the point of view. I do want to point out however that the interview went in the direction of the questions that I was asking of my guest. When I interview somebody, the goal is not to squeeze as much prince information out of them as I can, it’s to get to know them as well. I apologize if there wasn’t enough prince information for you, but my goal was to get to know Gayle. She’s had her own life and her own career, and if you are tuning into an interview with her you should expect to learn about her. Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
Prince's Friend Yes. I understand that's where you directed the interview, and I respect that it was in respectful awareness of her individuality. My goal was not to attack, but to offer a simple observation. My own observation of a harsh reality for those who worked with Prince. Even your channel name is "Prince's Friend," not your own name, and like it or not, the harsh reality I've spoke to is no less true.. interest is drawn by attachment to Prince. I was merely observing that, not complaining. And I was thinking out-loud how difficult it must've been and must be to have any kind of attachment to Prince. But you're right. I wouldn't have clicked to watch this video if titled "Interview with Boise Realtor". An interest in Prince and her attachment to Prince is what drew the click. I don't think I'm alone in that, and I'm in no way blaming her for it. I'm merely empathizing with what is a harsh reality for not only herself, but for the MANY others who worked with and knew Prince.
Oh, none of your original observations were incorrect. I apologize if it seems like I was seeming defensive. I was more just saying that it wasn’t Gayle trying to talk about herself, it was that I was directing the interview in that direction. She actually spoke about prince more than I asked about prince. LOL
Thanks :) She is so cool, interesting and funny. It was a pleasure watching since I was less familiar with the early years (Parade was my first album). Loved learning about her and didn't know she came from a classical/opera background, quite admirable
It is so nice to hear from Gayle she was always very pretty and she was there for Prince before all of the huge success of purple rain I consider her to be a true friend of Prince's Prince could make many new friends but there is nothing like old friends I am so glad that some one remembered her after all she was an important member of Prince's beginning and you have to get through one chapter before moving forward to the next one Gayle appeared on the American bandstand show with Prince as well as the wolfman Jack's midnight special music show in nineteen eighty around the third of January of nineteen eighty Prince became very successful after Gayle's time with Prince's band had come and gone so not many people are aware of who Gayle is but I remember her well I have a picture of Prince kissing Gayle God bless Gayle this is Geraldine Walker from Saginaw Michigan
Thanks, this is a fab interview. Gayle’s is down to earth and funny. I didn’t realise she is blues singer and also plays guitar. Her life has been interesting and varied puts my own to shame. I must remember to check out the wool in my bed lol
Gayle Chapman, is another funk legend, from the Purple Funk Family the Head cut singing response to Prince,s was and still legendary, her keyboard skills are legendary and funky,, the band photo on Dirty Mind lp is legendary this funk was against r and b, Motown which I liked then Prince and his band created the freak funk movement which rap and Hip Hop also came from, loved the interview, thanks
Nice interview! I wished you have asked her about the Rick James tour though. I was wondering if she had any interesting anecdotes and if she could have shed any light on the rivalry between her former boss and Mr. James.
Awesome interview, yet again! Thanks for sharing..I think i hva cple i'd love to introduce u 2. I see a few more interviews in your near future! Peaceyaself, Rome
This is so old school. Love the mics. She reminds me of Lisa and Wendy ish. Brown Mark might disagree that Revolution was all white she was spot on on abortion
Isn't funk done on the one also. James Brown did funk with he beat on the one which was not supposed to be an acceptable way of playing but this is what he insisted his musicians to do. Prince is known for being influenced by these Funk Masters. He is known for merging genres in a way that no one else was doing. Maybe he was merging funk and rock and all the other stuff. Very good interview. I liked the questions. Gayle was funny with that women's choice line of reasoning against intolerant men that she brought up and you clarified.
I remember a Gayle performance with Prince during the "Dirty Mind, Head' era. She performed explicit sexual acts on stage. All the same, raw hypersexuality was their stage persona. However, her convictions and inability to debut her musical ability caused her to go on her own musical journey.
If Gayle hadn´t left, there would have been no Lisa Coleman, without Lisa there would have been no Wendy and Prince´s career would have taken a very different trajectory.
Dude no disrespect but please let the artist speak and not interject so much. A few times you cut her off and I wanted to hear her thoughts. Again I don't mean harm at all.
@@PrincesFriend I must of been thinking of Wendy and Gayle . Wasn't there a gal named Gayle that played keyboards ? She was Wendy's lover. Help me out here. My memory isn't to good.

Gayle is a sweetheart. She was so underrated as a musician working for Prince at the time.
That was fun! Thanks so much, I'll let you know when I have stuff uploaded for listening and purchase!
That sounds wonderful! You were an amazing guest!
Gayle, you are absolutely amazing and so wonderful for this interview. Thank you for being so down to earth.
Fabulous Mizz G, thank for giving an very interesting interview. Am very interested in any up coming releases.
Loved this interview, Gayle! Great job :)
Fabulous Mizz G, I hope you're working on your memoir. I'd love to read your life's story.
Gayle is so down to earth. She is as sweet as they come. Much like Jill Jones. 💜💜💜
So cool! Both of u were great! Luv what u do, Prince’s friend, keep his legacy alive!💜😉
Best interviewer on the Prince sphere
Awwww thanks

Enthusiastic but not sycophantic. It's a hard balance to strike but you certainly nailed it.
