I always found it extremely touching that Maitlands who were clearly wanting a child ended up getting a surrogate daughter in Lydia in the end helping her with her school work and being the loving parents she really needed.

One thing I like is that when the Deetzses see the model town, there is not a MOMENT of their usual crassness or callousness... they all unanimously think it's beautiful and amazing, and the very next time we see it, the Deetzes have moved it from the attic down to the main floor and set it up on a tasteful and GORGEOUS special table just so that Mr. Maitland's work can be seen and appreciated as the amazing creation it is.
Mrs. Deetz might be a self-absorbed diva artist, but she recog ized the work of another master artist and wanted it to be appreciated.

When Beetlejuice kicks that tree, it wasn’t supposed to fall over. He improved that line after it fell as a joke to give the set designer crap. Tim loved it obviously and kept it in the movie.

I think lots of modern audiences are surprised that Beetlejuice is more of a plot device to the main story of the Maitlands finding a surrogate daughter, and Lydia finding surrogate parents who really understand her. It can be underwhelming to some new viewers, so I’m really glad you guys enjoyed it so much!

So yeah... Up until the film premiered we had our doubts. This was more than just shortsightedness.
But... Keaton killed it! He was absolutely brilliant! The only complaint was that there was "too little" of Batman in the film (compared to how much screen time The Joker got). He was perfect for this new era of "no nonsense" Batman.

that house is ~ 1 million dollars today.
260k in the 80's is only 750k but real estate inflation is different, it sits between precious metal and general inflation (260k in silver/gold in 88 is 1.2/1.5 million today)
Zillow says 3-5 acres and a big house in CT is around a million too.

Watching this as an adult, I know now just how pervy and sleazy Beetlejuice was and he made my skin crawl. I get that he's a demon, so it works, and it went over my head as a kid, but, many of his creepy jokes made me squirm. This is a KID'S movie recall! I'm interested how they're going to handle him in the sequel. I love the sandworms, I love the weird Salvador Dali desert it lives in, and the underworld of ghosts and corpses. They're raising the bar with the special effects there in the trailer.

I can't say I've ever thought of this as a kid's movie, and I don't think that was the intent -- like Ghostbusters, it just wound up really popular with kids. The horror imagery might be comedic, but it's still gross, and Beetlejuice is in fact a sleazy perv. Burton was gunning for a higher rating than the film got (how the hell they got away with an f-bomb in a PG movie, I'll never know).

It’s funny that you mentioned Christina Ricci’s rendition of the Wednesday character. In an interview, Ricci said she was having trouble grasping the Wednesday character and wasn’t sure what to do for the audition. Her mother told her to channel Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice. Ricci and Ryder also starred in a movie called Mermaids with Cher, yes THEE Cher. It’s a fun coming of age story, mother/daughter drama and it’s wonderful!

While shooting her next film, Winona Ryder was in Griffith Park laying on the grass with Christian Slater until it was getting too dark and they finished the shot. Then she had to be rushed to a place to shower, change into her designer dress, and be rushed to get to Hollywood on the other side of the big hill to get to the Oscars. Do a reaction on Ryders next film, with a massive cult following. The unbelievably edgy dark-humored...HEATHERS.

This is a great horror comedic supernatural movie that set so many trends that to this day are still around. I am pretty sure this was Winona Ryder's break out role in Hollywood. I am looking forward to seeing Bettlejuice Bettlejuice to continue the crazy adventure started back in 1988.

I can’t believe how naïve people actually are… the sequel is gonna suck, It’s completely unnecessary. It’s just another crappy sequel that’s gonna do a disservice to the original movie like most other sequels do

@@nsasupporter7557 Saying people are naive for wanting to see a sequel to a movie is sorry on so many levels. It is not naive it is a sign of a mind that is willingness to experience new thing. Not want to have a sequel to anything whether it be a book, game or movie just because you hold it predecessor on such a high self you don't have faith in that IP. This a sign of a closed mind unwilling to accept things do change.

@CinePals I just watched this amazing movie, I love Michael Keaton as an actor and I immediately having watched it with my mom tonight in preparation for the sequel opening night on Thursday at 6:15pm in Dolby Cinema at AMC, I must say, I was kicking myself for not watching this movie at any point in my previous 27 years of existence but, I’m glad I did as it easily is probably my second favorite Michael Keaton movie of all time right up there behind 1989’s Batman as a huge fan of the caped crusader growing up and I’m not a huge Tim Burton fan but, I have to say Batman and Beetlejuice are really my 2 favorites of his that I have seen.
