    Just for context, Betelgeuse always had an ex wife, in the first movie the ring he has for the wedding scene is on her finger. Thought I do agree I’d wished they had focused on her and give her a bigger impact on the story more than just being in the last scene.

    I think Astrid's story with the tree house guy could have been a full story alone, it was too short and Beetlejuice's wife could have been a whole story of its own with her as the main villain. This is like 3 full stories cut down into one so you don't get enough of each.

  • @DanielS2001
    @DanielS2001 Месяц назад +12

    35:34 - "He's so dramatic." Well, Beetlejuice did say he attended Julliard. XD
    Also, Fun Fact: The conductor of the soul train is modeled after Don Cornelius, who was the creator and host of the TV series Soul Train. And it's implied that it's actually Don Cornelius, since the real Don Cornelius died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound (and as established in the first film, people who commit suicide become civil servants).

      @@DanielS2001 well, this makes Richard’s death a lot more sadder.

    • @DanielS2001
      @DanielS2001 Месяц назад +1

      @@Otisboy121 There might be a silver lining, though. Since we do not see Ms. Argentina (whom we know was a suicide) still working the waiting room, it may be possible that those who commit suicide essentially "work off" their debts, or maybe the bureaucracy may be having to reassess cases one-by-one to determine if it was really a suicide or if it was an accidental self inflicted death. If you look at the newspaper Beetlejuice is seen reading in his office in the second film, there appears to have an article about some deaths incorrectly being ruled as suicides (and it must be recent discovery of the incorrect rulings due to Delia being allowed to go with Charles on the soul train at the end of the film). Since Richard's death may have been accidentally by his own doing, he may have opted to work until his case was assessed (so instead of basically being stuck haunting the area in which he drown while waiting, he may have opted to work because it allowed him the option to be able to look in on Lydia and Astrid, while he was waiting to hear judgement. Since he didn't intentionally drown himself, it's safe to say it was an accidental self-inflicted death, much like Delia, and he may be allowed to eventually pass onto the great beyond).
      In fact, I actually feel more sad for Beetlejuice. "Why? He's a bad guy!" I'll explain: Delores gave him a cup of poison for him to drink, meaning that he didn't willingly decide to commit suicide. That means that anyone who has died by poisoning, be it intentional murder or by accident caused by another person, got labeled as a suicide because they knowing ingested food and/or drink without knowing that it was poisoned and it is labeled a suicide by the netherworld's bureaucracy before they realized the clinical error of ruling all self-inflicted deaths as suicides. Delores basically doomed Beetlejuice to work as a civil servant (no wonder he went rogue and became a bioexorcist). Granted, he might not have been a good person in his life, or afterlife, but he didn't willing choose to kill himself.

    I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH! The storylines could use some love whether they cut out some of the stuff with the Lydia’s dad or with Lydia’s lame boyfriend. Because I feel like a lot of the stories were like 1/2 of what they needed to be. I need more from Dolores the soul sucker lady, the actor cop, and the ghost boy tricking Astrid. ALSO WOULD HAVE LOVED IF WE GOT A LOT MORE IN THE UNDERWORLD WITH ASTRID AND THE GHOST BOY AND LYDIA AND BEETLEJUICE TRYING TO SAVE HER WHILE DOLORES IS ON THEIR HEELS.
    PERHAPS WE WILL GET THAT IN the third one if we ever get it? Maybe they rescue Delia from the underworld? Or maybe Lydia will die and Astrid has to save Lydia and Delia from the afterlife? 😊

    Like TOP GUN: MAVERICK this sequel does justice to the original and then some as even more of a loving valentine to hits macabre madness largely due to its core cast returning and Burton back at the helm and Elfman's kinetic score. Keaton gives the gusto to his 'other iconic role' with relish and to think O'Hara's ditzy Delia would be the voice of reason after bonding with Ryder's goth queen Lydia. Newbies Theroux provides such toxic masculinity it practically reeks, Dafoe is amusing and Bellucci is sex incarnate (*sigh* - hoping she's cast as the lead in Burton's next joint, the remake of the cult-classic sci-fi/horror flick ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN - which you s/watch too ; its a hoot. I loved the Mario Bava inspired back story for 'The Juice' (you both should seek BLACK SUNDAY starring Barbara Steele about witchcraft). The 'MacArthur Park' wedding sequence is Everything :D.

    Dudettes, My best friend is named Astrid and my name is Jeremy and we tried to date a long time ago but felt like friendship was better so imagine our reaction both of us watching the scenes with Jeremy And Astrid years after we dated while going to see this in theaters together!
    a few fun facts:
    -There is a musical bit from the 90's BETTLEJUICE cartoon sprinkled in the movies intro theme!
    -The tree where Jeremy has his treehouse built is modeled after the tree from Sleepy Hollow
    -Michael Keaton would only reprise his role if it was all practical effects and if he got more screen time than the first film
    -The posters in Jeremy's room are a lot of the bands and artists that Danny Elfman has worked with over the years!
    -Winona Ryder still has the school dress from the original film and let Jenna Ortega wear it for the premier!
    -You can see Barbara and Adam in the beginning of the credits during the overhead model scene in the river where they died.
    -The bike that Astrid rides is a similar model to the one that Lydia rode in the first one. The original bike was stolen from an auctioneers garage so the set-designers built a replica piece by piece to get it to look like the bike from the first film!

    I LOVED this movie SO MUCH. Honestly, I cut the storylines a lot of slack because this is obviously more of a play on the cartoon series and that was just bonkers, zany and outrageous fun. My only serious complaint I have in this movie is what they did to Lydia overall. I can see why they made her so much weaker in personality, and given her hard and difficult life it's understandable, but I would have really appreciated if they had let her shine more. She got some of her fire back at the very end with that smirk when they killed off Rory, but that was so late into the movie that it felt more like a handout. Catherine O'hara REALLY stole the show in this movie though. They really went all out with Delia and I LOVED THAT so much. She is such a fun character and I hate that they killed her off, but at the same time I absolutely respect that decision and agree that it was the right call to make. Jenna was absolutely perfect. She really just belongs in Tim Burton projects. She fits in perfectly with a lot of his design choices and styles and she was 100% the best choice to play Astrid. I do feel this movie is just a bit too short and could have used a few more moments emphasizing points of interest and connections to the original movie (like confirmation that it was Delores's finger Betelgeuse took the ring off of in the first wedding to Lydia despite the heavy insinuation). I'd have also loved to have learned more about the soul suckers. And also gotten a better look into that damn book lol I'm just a nerd like that, though. The more lore I can soak up the happier I am lol

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ended up making 451 million dollars by the end of it's theatrical release.

    I love the sequel! However, what I wish they would’ve done to avoid the issue of too many storylines of so many new iconic characters, is to spread the storylines over a trilogy.
    The second film could’ve focused on Lydia & Astrid’s complex relationship. Astrid would fall for the ghost, Jeremy, that tricks her into trading her life for his. Therefore, Lydia reaches out to Beetlejuice for help. Jeremy was such a sinister character. I would’ve loved if they really honed in and explored that storyline more with him being the main villain.
    And for the third film, they could’ve focused on Delores coming back for Beetlejuice’s soul. Maybe he would trick Lydia and Astrid into helping him, since they’re human and can both see ghosts, they could be instrumental in helping defeat Delores. I LOVED her character so much, but they didn’t have her do anything really relevant that benefitted the storyline. If they saved her as the villain of the final film, they could’ve fleshed her out more. Gave her reasoning for sucking everyone’s soul she comes in contact with in her pursuit of Beetlejuice.
    I hope they create an amazing concept and even more iconic characters for the third film, if there is to be one, and hopefully take time to focus on one storyline and really fleshing it out. There’s many characters from the animated Beetlejuice show they could bring to life, too. I’ll be in the theatre opening night, regardless lol

    There's actually a pretty good reason for the movie feeling overstuffed with too many plotlines: the two script writers usually do only TV shows, so they're used to having way more time to setup and resolve storylines. They kinda squeezed enough material for a season of TV in one movie.

    If you remember from the first movie... If you off yourself you become a civil servant... So Astrid's dad must have jumped in the river on purpose and let the piranha eat him. And I agree with people I could totally go for a third Beetlejuice. I could also go for an origin story. I want more Betelgeuse and how he got his powers, and all the chaos he's created before he met the Maitlands.

    I was disappointed, this movie didn’t do it for me. It felt like they told Catherine to just act like Moira. Also, the whole thing felt forced. The sequel nobody asked for but suddenly realized they had to have it. Like that shrek green dyed ketchup Burger King did back in the day.

    People who say it took away her power. Think its a bigger conversation on medication and if its always needed. She needs to be able to be strange and unusual. Love this movie would have cut down the final song thats it.

    10:02 Is it me, l or this a strange song choice? Adam Maitland liked Harry Belefonte, not Charles or any of the Deetzes.

    • @Doctor-Spocktopus
      @Doctor-Spocktopus Месяц назад +1

      You're right, but I think there's still wiggle room for it to work. Charles heard it enough times in the house that he came to love it, the family associates that song with the afterlife since it came from the Maitlands, or Delia planned the service and chose something artsy and inappropriate because she's Delia.

  • @Britton_Thompson
    @Britton_Thompson 4 дня назад +1

    This one is easier to get drawn into. The first one, for as great as it's third act is, is pretty slow moving for the first half of the movie. It focused too much on the Maitlands, and not enough on Beetlejuice. There's nothing really wrong with that besides the fact that the Maitlands are the most boring straight-man characters written into a comedy ever. In a comedy, the straight-man should never draw more focus than the eccentric.
    This film remedied that flaw. This one was more of Beetlejuice's world and backstory finally getting explored; something audiences have been demanding for decades.

    I just think its weird that they made the canceled actors a bigger character than the Maitland's who were our main characters of the first film... and Rory is just an awful character we spend too much time with. The ghost and the afterlife are whats really intriguing about the Beetlejuice world. Wish we would've gotten more of that then the Deetz's issues.
