Thank you! I almost went out and was about to spend another $250 on a new nespresso Vertuo because it was pouring 7.4oz pods overflowing over a standard coffee cup edges and so my coffee was watered down and I couldn’t figure out how or why happened and now seeing this video and how when you hold down the button you can customize cup size for each pod I realized one time I saw the button was stuck pressed down and if you own one of these you know the touch is super sensitive you barely have to make contact with button to register a press and so I would just add to be careful if you run across this issue to make sure you just lightly press it in the future until you see the circle of light around the button change because that will let you know it registered the button press and it won’t get stuck because this is a heat sensor and really you don’t even need to “press” the button in - I think it is just a mechanical 2nd option in case the heat sensor in the button breaks.
Hi John, we’re happy to hear this video was helpful for you. If you experience any issues in the future with your Vertuo Machine, please do not hesitate to contact us directly via our toll-free number, 800-562-1465.
Hold the button 3 times, tap the lever until it flashes 3 times, push the button once, then hold the lever and the button until you glow a steady orange and do a dance, turn 3 times and finally tap yourself three times then you have reprogrammed yourself....I think.
Thanks for making this tutorial! BUT, your designers could've spent 23 cents on a recessed reset button on the back so we didn't have to engage in all that multi-button voodoo to do a factory reset! 🙄 Really sick of companies "simplifying" controls by removing buttons (for looks they'll say, but really just save money), then coming up with convoluted impossible to remember instructions to use the remaining buttons for purposes they're not meant for. I've got way too many devices now with one or two buttons that would be SO much easier to operate (and remember how) if they just had 4-5 buttons... That said, it does make good coffee and I am glad the hidden codes are in there somewhere. My cups suddenly started overflowing recently, so I'm glad I can factory reset or customize the water amount if that doesnt work. And excited to try reducing the water amount a bit from factory standard too. Thanks for a nice product, but hope your product designers read YT complaints, I'm not the only one saying this here...
Had one of these overflow on me at a hotel so looked up what the deal was. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my astromech droid with me to decipher the binary code for resetting the thing, and the only available droid here in the outer rim had a bad motivator. Guess I’ll just head over to Toshi station and grab a cup.
If you use a cup that's (slightly) too small for the default amount of water, or if you always want the default to use more or less water to your liking, it's great that the default amount is adjustable like this.
This works on multiple models so if you have an all black version with a mostly flat top, model ENV150B (sticker on the bottom of the unit), I can confirm this process works for that one too. In my case, it was pouring continuously not stopping until it ran out of water. A reset did the trick of fixing it.
Great machine, however why don’t you guys just make extra buttons. The reset instructions is confusing, now I have to use both hands to hold 2 buttons and then push another button 3 times, would if I only have 1 hand? Not disability proof.
Hi Gordon, thank you for reaching out. We can confirm that in our Vertuo Plus manual, the instructions on cup size programming can be found by looking up Programming the Water Volume in the contents of the user manual and going to the appropriate page number. You can find a copy of the user manual here: nespres.so/a/34oftk Many thanks.
Hold main button down until you have the desired measure. You could start with that instead of 40 seconds of slow motion hand model stuff. I'm not here for the music and close up shots of a machine I already have.
After a factory reset, the double espresso is supposed to make 2.7 oz but makes 5 oz. Brand new in the US. Had to re-program to get it the right amount.
So you have to reset to factory settings every time you want to go back to the regular amount …? Resetting all other pods you chose ? What if 2 people drink the same pod and have different water preferences.
Ok, so… let’s say I take a coffee pod like the sweet vanilla one and program it to fill a double espresso cup just right - does that technically turn the pod into a double espresso? Or is it just more concentrated coffee? And is that the same thing? I know with the creatista you can press the button twice and turns any coffee pod capsule into an espresso. So is this the same concept?
Hi Elissa, a shorter pour will result in a more intense flavor as less water is brewed through the capsule. Your machine can also be reprogrammed to brew a larger coffee, or push additional water through the capsule using the top-off function. For a longer pour, brew your selection, then press and release the button to add water. Press and release again once the desired volume is poured.
I'm confused: I have different sizes of the coffee pod: how can I program the function to automatically recognize the pod? please advise, and I'm in US. Thanks 🙂
Yea the coffee is great! but this is way too complicated and I stumbled on this utube because my machine didn’t have instructions with it. And I wasted many pods (and lots of money) thinking my machine was broken or trying different things and resets etc. I guess I’m still a little confused about the sizing because I bought a pack with 1 oz 5 oz and 7.7 I think 🤷🏻♀️ and then I read they also have coffee pods besides the espresso ones…so are there even more sizes?? And each needs to be programmed?? 😳 this is why I need coffee in the morning🤦🏻♀️ too complicated especially in the am
The link in the description is to a French-language page ... which is missing. Please fix. I was wondering if ALL Virtuo models have this feature. I was at a Nespresso store today, and the sales consultant told me all about the machines, but they said the barcode on the cup determines the size of the pour, and there is nothing I can do to affect it other than buying a different size pod. It seems they don't know about this feature!
Do you need to do this for a specific pod type, so once you change it, its for all types of pods? For example one of is drinks 80mg Bianco Legerro and likes it, and we just want to change it for Melozio 230mg.
Hi Jenny, when you reprogram the machine it will reprogram all of the capsules that are the same brew size. E.g. if you reprogram a double espresso to brew 3.5 ounces all of the double espressos will brew that much.
WTF. Nespresso doesn't describe any of this in their instructions. Would've been better if they just provided a link to their Vertuo Plus RUclips page in the booklet. Smh
@@nespresso Hello. I’m in the USA. Thank you for the response. I couldn’t find this in any of the instruction booklets provided and all the pods were pouring the same amount. And if I press it too fast (3x) will it still activate the "rinsing" mode with a pod inserted?

Totally! This is actually such a pain in the ass machine with very bad instructions. The instructions are very poorly written in the booklets and not intuitive on the machine at all. And I’m not dumb! 😂
Ridiculous! Why must everything be made more complicated? I just want a simple cup of coffee & I don’t want to go back to university to get it! It’s not that it’s so impossible to figure it out, but why should we have to go to this extra effort to watch a video tutorial to get it?!
Whether a 7.7 oz, 5 oz Gran Lungo, Double Espresso or Espresso, your Vertuo machine will automatically brew your cup size by readong the bar-coded rim. There's no programming needed, unless you want to modify your pour. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
If that’s the case, then why did my machine randomly start filling what used to be a normal coffee mug to the point where it’s filling a travel mug & overflowing into a regular sized coffee mug. To the best of my knowledge, I changed nothing. It literally empties at least half the tank of water for 1 pod.
Hi there, I am sorry to hear this. Please send a PM via social media with your full name, member number and primary address, and I will be happy to help further. Thank you.
I bought the carafe but have a Vertuo plus, so the pour over capsules aren’t supposed to work with it, BUT, I used the cut out barcode like in this video ruclips.net/video/a6GB2UhbsY0/видео.html and just ran it twice, works beautifully! Be sure to cut the ring off as well as the cup to get it to work. I also mashed the bottom of the capsule a little to ensure it fit in the machine. I was already running my capsules twice to get all the goodie out!
Hi Kylé, you can program your machine to different cup sizes using any capsule. Once you reprogram using a Mug 230ml capsule for example, any other Mug size blends will produce your reprogrammed amount. Many thanks.
