I did! this was one of the 3 games "Santa" got me for christmas back in 1999 when i was only 8, along with 007 Tomorrow Never Dies and Test Drive Off Road 3... man i miss those years..
This was the biggest effort EA put into that year... it was a big change from previous Live and worthy of buying it... the only time... it was impressive for its time with actual player facial.
Not many people had read the manual and realized how much control you had here. There was a button for Direct Shoot and when you pressed it together with one of 3 other buttons - you got to choose from 3 options how to finish - dunk or layup. Most people just used the regular shot button, that's why you get that leaner jumper instead of layup/dunk.
Ali bin Dover Lol I missed out on this game on ps1 at first, had it on the SNES, but I played it in 2000. I was like damn this game is better than Live 99 and as good as 2000.
I still remember when using bulls, every time i have to switch to pippen and come back to carry a ball because he is point forward in real................
Anyone remember the insane dunks you could do? I think if you pressed all the back buttons or a cobination of a couple (it's been a while), you could launch from like the freethrow line doing a 2-handed 360 lmao I loved this game so much.
Existence is so weird, I played this game when I was so young that I didn't even know yet that I didn't like sports. Two decades later I've discovered/ rediscovered sports, but even after all this time I still had this weird recording that would play every few months stored deep in my brain of this man saying "here's the most- nestle crunch- playerofthegame." And I just spent an hour trying to find which game it was from, remembering that Dennis Rodman had a rainbow afro and working backwards from there. Lol, how strange an experience on my end- makes me wonder what strange sounds and experiences lurk in the backrounds of other humans across different centuries, in different parts of the world, that occupied used random space in their brain for 95% of their lives.
This game was such a revolution compared to 96 and before..... I remember getting a PS and this for XMas and making my parents look at how real it looked.... The technology jump from Sega to PS1 is probably still the most impressive jump there will ever be.... Sure it looks better today, but this is not that far from looking like it is today... Sega looked like little blobs running around. When I went from PS3 to PS4 and Xbox 360 to Xbox One I honestly didn`t even see the difference
Now looking back at this game and Live 1999 both game was mostly sim style basketball until nba live stated adding freestyle moves which made the game super arcade instead of sim. Now i pretty young because im 15 but lucky for me my dad still has the old PlayStation 1 so i play live 98 and 99 from time to time. But my question is do you think when live add it freestyle superstars is was kinda OP.
I loved Live 03 but all I remember was Kobe Bryant could hit a crossover make the defender lean then take off from the free throw line every time in a half court set no matter the difficulty. I think the game was always arcade-like due to the speed of players when using turbo but definitely once the use of the freestyle stick was added it brought an element of fun but arcade style. One issue that still remains in Live even as I was playing 98 is the rebounding is inconsistent for the user, it's hard to time rebounds it's almost as if you jump and the game takes over for you and they dictate whether or not you get the rebound.
Derek Turner Yea me and my dad hate when guys like shawn kemp or Dennis Rodman couldnt get boards it was alot of rage especially when it came to a close game it was frustrating but i will say this i do get the W's aginst my dad in Live 98 and 99 but still i think the game is still fun tho
Its fun still, I didn't like 99 too much because it felt like everybody was Antoine Walker lol but 2000 & 2001 fixed a lot IMO but yea not getting rebounds with rodman is crazy, I couldn't even rebound with Shaq good.
@@DerekTurner1985 my whole life I've been wondering who is number #98 without doubt the greatest player to ever play hands down. I didn't even know that was Jordan he just used to smoke my older brothers team and funny thing is I hated basketball. I don't care if it wasn't Jordan that guy was a goat.
my boy round the circle had shootout 97 & i just bought live 98 and dude had the nerve to scoff at this game he literally laughed and acted like shootout 97 was that great lol i told him he's fucking crazy you can be a fan of a certain game but he acted like shootout 97 was the holy grail of basketball games, i grew up on live 95 for sega, then got live 98 for ps1, then i got the ps2 and live 04 is the best one for ps2
Player rights. I think once he came back he wasnt part of the NBPA so he kept his likeness until 99 with Live 2000 up until he retired again then sold himself to 2k.
It's just the 3 in the key on defense that's all, I was camping in the paint without touching someone. I was actually shocked they called it because I did it all game.
+Resty Mervin Ponio player likeness, he wouldn't sign it over unless for large sums of money, only live 2000-2003 and 2k2-2k3 had him until 2k11. He was in every ea prior to his first retirement its just afterwards I think he wanted to be paid.
Who just randomly remembered about this game and came here after 23 years?
I did! this was one of the 3 games "Santa" got me for christmas back in 1999 when i was only 8, along with 007 Tomorrow Never Dies and Test Drive Off Road 3... man i miss those years..
Still one of the best games ever
I liked how Rodmans hair color used to change from game to game.
Big Tone yea that was cool
I thought that was amazing as a kid.....simpler times
i was like 8 years old playing this. i used to turn fouls off, push all the opponents down, steal the ball and run the score up lol #89Player
Casanovski lol I used to play with slow motion dunks on just to see how I'm styling
Casanovski same and turn out of bounds off
Loh Pro haha I did the same shit when I was playing at that age
yes me too . run and shoot
Hahahahahaha I think everybody did it
this game looked and played very impressive for its time
I had fun playing it again using young kobe
there was a graphic chip that made it all smooth.. I remember I had a pentium2 450 -- and this extra card
@@mama-pu4qj This Live '98 graphics on PC made the PS1's graphics outdated already! 😂
This Number 89 guy is good, they should make like a ten part documentary on him or something.
😂😂😂
And that's when he took that personally
RIP Kobe #8 #24 MAMBA 4 LIFE
I Miss #Kobe Bryant Too!😢
This was the biggest effort EA put into that year... it was a big change from previous Live and worthy of buying it... the only time... it was impressive for its time with actual player facial.
My alltime favroite live. Nothing made us feel more like the future was here than this game. What a tiem to be alive!!!
Hakeem Olajuwon was an absolute cheat code in this game. Dude just dunked and swatted anything that came in his path haha
After 2 years of being hooked on NBA Live 96... this game was a world breaking upgrade in terms of graphics and gameplay.
TheSWFuniverse I was playing 96 until I finally got 99 on ps1 lol, I had 97 and 98 on the genesis and I thought the players looked goofy.
I remember being so amazed with how realistic the graphics looked back then
I miss these old graphics. Lol!😅
People actually played with illegal defense turned on? Lol I had this on PC and freaking loved it. This is my favorite game ever.
loved this version of live. played it a ton as a U.S. Marine stationed in Mississippi

Wowwwwwwwwww I’m mad cause I never read the book
89 player is Jordan
NBA 98 and FIFA 98 were the first games I played as a kid on my PC.
Greatest game of my childhood. Lol on the way back home with this game, a ps1, and memory card right now an thats the truth.
Ali bin Dover Lol I missed out on this game on ps1 at first, had it on the SNES, but I played it in 2000. I was like damn this game is better than Live 99 and as good as 2000.
+Derek “Dgame1985” Turner can you please upload the NBA Live '99 and NBA Live 2000 NBA FINALS
StFidjnr I'll see if I can find them I'll do it when I do
+Derek “Dgame1985” Turner any luck yet?
StFidjnr I tried Live 2000 but it crashed on me, I'll have to try it again
The signature sneakers of today look like the shoes in this game.
I always loved playing the games underwater.
As a kid I never realized there wasn't a ref on the game loved this game #classic
Its one of those things you never paid attention to until the ps2, dreamcast came out.
98 year NBA Live win Total NBA 98 PlayStation, best animation , fast
Back then it looked real

Space Jam 2 coming ... it's already an opportunity to bring NBA Live / 2K videos
This was my first nba gane..got it for christmas present 1997
Man I had this game on the Sega Genesis in 97 lol. I had a ps1 but was still playing the Genesis for some strange reason.
I remember as a kid wondering why Jordan wasn't in the game. I would use my imagination and use the PLAYER as mj
OMG man does this bring back memories. The only Live I was ever good at. I only bought it cause Tim Hardaway was on the cover. I'm from Miami
We meet again......number 89 :')
I created Michael Jordan and was absolutely glued to this game
Everybody used to do that, it was good you could edit the games after live 95 which you couldn't
Crowd noises still better than 2K
best basketball game forme.

“Let’s see the replay on that play!”
Oh nothing special
#89 is supposed to be Jordan I've always wondered why he was never really on the game tho
Yea thats him and when he came back from retirement he didnt join the players union I believe so they couldn't use his likeness.
@@DerekTurner1985 my whole life I've been wondering who is number #98 without doubt the greatest player to ever play hands down. Which one did he wear a #98 jersey?
@ 18:06 NBA LIVE '98 championship FMV
98 live the best team was houston rockets nobody could barely beat me. im talking winning 10 out of two or all games.
Bulls could not keep up with the lakers in the first quarter..time to bring on 6th man of the year Toni Kukoc haha
either that or start getting the ball to #89- whoever that is...
it is old very good game. I like nba!))))
damn they made Shaq with a huge head lmao
This was a good game.
my boy round the circle had shootout 97 & i just bought live 98 and dude had the nerve to scoff at this game he literally laughed and acted like shootout 97 was that great lol i told him he's fucking crazy you can be a fan of a certain game but he acted like shootout 97 was the holy grail of basketball games, i grew up on live 95 for sega, then got live 98 for ps1, then i got the ps2 and live 04 is the best one for ps2
Michael Jordan was No. 89!
NBA on TBS, and NBA on TNT.
Mike Nash TNT needs a comeback since those sony games stopped coming out
EWW THE GRAPHICS
10/10
0:17 the graphics on the faces, haha look at rodmans hair, painted
anyone came here just to see how nba game progresses till ps5? cos i did.
They hook us all...
Roster player = Jordan
This is my oldest nba game after nba jam extreme
Throwback to being 6 playing this years ago .good days
I was 12 when this dropped
Roster Player > Freq, Pres, DJ, Justice Young
Young Kobe but what about Shammy and Jackson Ellis
Derek Turner Shammy the GOAT. Jackson Ellis had potential but it ended early. Very Brandon Roy-ish
Young Kobe lol Freq was the man all gold badges no archetype
What system was this on?
PS1 but emulated on PC
When you would take out of bounds off and shoot behind the basket and longley couldn't dunk 😂
Lol
I always released "player" and created Michael Jordan myself.
The Worm!!
KIDS WILL NEVER KNOW HOW LUCKY THEY ARE TO PLAY AS JORDAN ON THE NEW NBA 2K. WE HAD "PLAYER 98" GROWING UP😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
A classic I just posted this on my ig sentel86kicks
I remember you had to create Jordan for him to be on the game !!
edit the roster player at sg since he was already a beast
Heck yeah
The thing is no jordan in our eras in nba😂😂😂
Vintage move by #89 😂
Yes they can crossover and spin on offense lol💯💥✔
good times
I always thought having plastering permanent smiles on the players looked a little bit creepy.
Lol they want it to be friendly
me encantaba este juego
I've always wondered why they never added Jordan to these rosters cuz he was back in the NBA during this time.
Player rights. I think once he came back he wasnt part of the NBPA so he kept his likeness until 99 with Live 2000 up until he retired again then sold himself to 2k.
Player 89 replace role Michael Jordan
yo I had this on ps1 and created my high school team at the time. we would destroy nba teams! good times!
is this supose to work on my ps2 because it works
Yes the ps2 and ps3 both play ps1 games
thanks
didn't edit MJ?
I know I edited him on one video lol but glad I didnt cause I rather beat roster player than the goat
Illegal Defence
Can someone explain that rule
It's just the 3 in the key on defense that's all, I was camping in the paint without touching someone. I was actually shocked they called it because I did it all game.
Anybody tell me why Michael Jordan is not in this game?
+Resty Mervin Ponio player likeness, he wouldn't sign it over unless for large sums of money, only live 2000-2003 and 2k2-2k3 had him until 2k11. He was in every ea prior to his first retirement its just afterwards I think he wanted to be paid.
Can you edit player 89 to make it look like MJ?
***** yes
***** I did it on one video
May I have the link please?
Now compare this to NBA Live 98 on the SNES. LOL
Leander Rednael super was fun lol
Win 7 does it work
I just want to hear "with the Short Pop"
