Exactly. Playing through once that was the main mechanic, looking ahead to build layers with each color. Much more interesting than classic Tetris for me. Reminds me of the great Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack.
I love the fact that this prioritizes strategy over speed, as sometimes you have to wait for the pixels to move on their own, discouraging simply placing pieces as fast as possible
@@oBuLLzEyEo1013Other "tetris with physics" concepts will typically keep the blocks intact and then either have to play fast and loose with "line detection" or like Tricky Towers, pivot entirely to just seeing how high you can build
@@oBuLLzEyEo1013it’s the simplest physics-based Tetris I’ve seen. This is good because other ones I’ve seen aren’t as well designed for scoring and gameplay.

if you miss falling sand games then you should definitely get The Powder Toy! it has all of the regular falling sand stuff but now theres chemistry, physics, computers and a lot of ither stuff
theres a game you can get on your phone thats like a sandbox type of thingie. its literally just called "sandbox" and it has a ton of materials, liquids and powders. i used to joke with my brother by making soup in it thats like 90% acid, mercury and sand. also if you rotate your phone the gravity changes accordingly. its really good and you should try it out.
Dude this is an excellent take on Tetris. It took me a moment to figure out the strategy of piling up sand to chain combos together. It's really a quite elegant idea
There are ~70 different colors actually. Near volcanos (basalt) even more. I have 7 right in my room: white, black, brown, green, cream, red, gray - all from different deserts, gathered with my own hands.
I know its Sandtrix now, but I can't believe the tetris company shot Setris down over the song of all things according to the takedown notice on itch...
@@justinbremer2281 I'm not a legal person, so while I doubt it, maybe they found some loophole to gain ownership of the copyright, or maybe it's the fact that fighting a company with more than enough lawyer money probably wouldn't end well for all of itch...

Would be cool to have some random element pieces drop in. Like a meteor that leaves a crater and mixes the sand up, or a water piece that erodes the sand. Could be a seperate mode because this on its own is great.
This is really cool- but I think it could be more with a few iterations. One thing I've noticed is that hills become very powerful. A tall enough hill could make a line from a single piece. And the danger of touching the top seems pretty remote. I think the arena itself ought to reflect the new gameplay style. And possibly the objective, too.
Would be cool to be able to acquire an "earthquake" power, which would shake the bottom of the board, or throw all sand up a little, so it can resettle sand stuck in the bottom, hopefully clearing a bunch of lines :)
At first I thought "what's the point? It just fills in the gaps for you!" Then I realized it needs lines to be all one color and it switched to "what's the point? The game can decide you're done making lines at any time."
Me: I have never played this game and only have a bare understanding how it works. Also me: *yelling at the screen* OMG, don't put that there, you're doing it all wrong! 🤣
So once you understand that you're matching colors of lines, this version becomes world easier since it's possible to remove massive but also uneven segments with creative stacking as along as some kind of continuous segment connection can be made between both sides
the fucked up thing is that theres a game thats literally older than tetris that basically works like this, where every piece is split between black and white and you nned to make as large as you can of a section connecting both sides
I do wonder if anyone's tried doing this with Puyo Puyo. The strategy of setting up combos after the pieces fall from clearing a line for a massive score gives some real Puyo energy.

Kinda charming how well this retains that core Tetris strategy of “chaining combos is more important than just clearing lines”
Exactly. Playing through once that was the main mechanic, looking ahead to build layers with each color. Much more interesting than classic Tetris for me. Reminds me of the great Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack.
It feels more like Puyo Puyo, honestly. There you basically build up until one move makes for a massive chain of line clears
Yeah this feels like Puyo Puyo x Tetris
@xxsegaxx youtube is sending me shipping content from that games story mode I should actually play it the character interactions had me dying
it feels like active puyo in specific. pretty fun!
It took me a minute to figure out how the lines were being made. This is a satisfying game!
How are they made
@@TheonewithaplanzAll the pixels of that color must make a perfect line from point A to point B wthout getting blocked

Even better. It seems sometimes you need to place it fast and sometimes you need to wait. Adding depth and complexity to it

I came into this thinking it was another one of those Jelly Tetris animations. This game is quite an interesting concept.
I love how smooth and flowing the movement of the sand looks 10/10
brings a whole new meaning to "drawing lines in the sand"
Why I feel like this is the perfect mashup between tetris and puyo puyo
Holy frick youre right
everything about this feels illegal but also makes sense
This looks more fun than it has any right being
I thought this was going to be a gag like soft body Tetris, but no. There’s an actual game here.
Wow, what a novel take. Playing, it's fun to set up combos where one color clears then others fall and clear.
I don't know why I got recommend this but im not complaining
This is really cool
Fun fact, these are four colors of types of sand you can find irl
More if you have dye
What are the blue and green sand?

Because it's more fun than the work you have to do on the other display? 🤔

Finally, a Tetris in which you can score on the shape of the figure
I love this take on it. It actually looks more time-sensitive because you have to manage the blocks shifting all on their own

Whoa. I can only imagine what the gameplay would be like if it had the 'hold' feature from Tetris 99.
