Ya know, I was waiting for this comment. I’m musically inclined in terms of instruments, theory, and was even the drum major (conductor) of my high school’s large competitive field marching band-but my dad discouraged me from majoring in music and psychology when I expressed that music therapy was my target career. No joke. It doesn’t really matter considering I ended up becoming a mom twice over while pursuing a degree and I chose to prioritize my daughters over my psych major, but I really needed to see someone comment on music therapy. That was my very first thought and I was so thoroughly intrigued and watched the entire video in full. You’re an inspiration who is very far out of reach, but I’m soooo grateful 12 years later just to see that I wasn’t silly for wanting to double major for music therapy. Although my goal is sooo far out of reach by now, I needed justification in knowing that music therapists really ARE out there and really do feel fulfilled the way I would have! I hope you are happily onto the next stage in your life and that the lives you touched fulfilled you the way your single comment fulfilled me-and I’m glad someone else likely got goosebumps for the same reason I did when this video touched me!

Thank you Chris for sharing a glimpse of our family with the people on your channel, and for the time and energy you put into each video. We found encouragement early on in Piper's diagnosis by watching your interviews, and being on the opposite side of things was a great opportunity. You are a talented guitar player, and Piper enjoyed her time with to you! You were kind, patient, and flexible. Which is just what most people need.
Thank you to our friends, family, teachers, church, and medical team who have played roles in our daily lives. For supporting and encouraging us on our worst days.
Thank you to the online community who has commented or engaged with the video. Your kind words, prayers, and advice have been well received and shared along to our children. Time is a valuable thing that you can't get back, and it was a blessing to share our story with you all. We pray it encourages you on hard days, in hard places.
Thank you to our Lord Jesus for giving us a hope and a future. The Lord has been our firm foundation through the storms. We wouldn't be able to do an ounce of what we do without Him leading and guiding us every step of the way.

The humming she did in the first 10 seconds was the "are you sleeping, are you sleeping, brother John?" Nursery ryhme. She uses that song when she is tired or wants to know if others are awake in the house. Right before Chris showed up, Piper was napping. So in hindsight it makes sense that she was humming that song. She was still waking up from her nap.

You can see through her facial expressions and eyes....everything within her lights up, makes sense, and falls into place....once the music starts. The way she claps her hands to the beat....between claps she seems to feel the tempo, the way she "scrunches and scrubs" her hands between claps. That's her "feeling" the beat. I’ve also learned which kids enjoy songs with gestures more (like the Itsy Bitsy Spider). Some of the kids have autism, some have neurological disorders, some have genetic disorders. It’s great to see how different kids respond.

Just a quick story: I worked at Children's Hospital for many years, and we had a child who was a "frequent flyer", (a child who had been a patient on our unit many times) He had a deficit disorder, and was mentally deficient, but he communicated with everyone through music! His favorite song was "Jeremiah was a Bullfrog", and no matter what his mood was, as soon as he heard that song, he would stop what he was doing and immediately start clapping in time and humming with the music. I always felt like that just seemed to be a special song for a lot of special needs children. Kind of a nice memory for me. thank you for sharing yourself with these children and their families, and then sharing your videos with us! Much love... 👍🥰

I cannot imagine the amount of love and care needed for a child with such genetic disorders, but compounded with the desire and responsibility to give her sister everything she needs and deserves and maintain a functioning family unit seems almost impossible. My only child is a healthy 41-year-old man with a family of his own; I never take that good grace for granted. I hold a special place in my heart with love and respect for all of you.

Same. I'm ashamed to admit it but I used to wonder "how do children who can speak communicate aren't they so sad" I never thought badly of them but thought they must be sad.
Chris has shown me that there's so many ways to communicate and that they're anything but sad or "trapped" like the media will make you think.
Its changing now but I grew up when autistic children who couldn't speak were described as "trapped in their own world" thankfully through both RUclips and meeting non verbal autistic children (my best friend from childhood has a non verbal son) I've learned that is not true at all.

They named this kiddo correctly, alright! I love how intense Piper's expressions get and how much her eyes light up when the music is played; you can just almost see her brain firing off all the signals. I also thought the example of lowering her heartbeat by having her clap at a slowing tempo was brilliant. It is quite clear that she's in the right family.

What a lovely child. I'm glad Piper's happy and has a family that loves and respects her, and has learnt to communicate how she enjoys communicating. A moment that sticks with me is when she's sitting on the couch humming "If You're Happy And You Know it", and she grabs her sister's hand, and claps her hand against hers - I get the impression it's her being happy and wanting to include her sister in on the happiness.
