    The reprieved from slaughter duck reminded me of the Tamworth Two, in Staffordshire, England, some years ago - two pigs who bolted from their impending fate, crossed a river and thence were allowed to live together at an animal sanctuary. Also, a cow that ran home to the farm she'd been raised at and was never sold thereafter.

    • @alistairjamesheaton9155

      @@alphanerd7221 what happened was the pigs were due to go to the slaughter house, and they escaped from the slaughter house when river and a large before they were recaptured, and subsequently sent to an animal sanctuary where they were kept confined for the rest of the days.

    • @jenetikitty
      @jenetikitty 2 года назад +1

      @@alphanerd7221 Animal sanctuary has a lot of different possible meanings. The Rare Breeds Centre--where the Tamworth Two lived until they died--was a sanctuary for rare and endangered livestock.... like tamworth pigs! Tamworth pigs are one of the oldest breeds of pigs, and there are currently fewer than 300 breeding females registered in the world, because they are not as "efficient" as other modern breeds of pigs. So, the facility itself was a farm, in essence. not a patch of wild forest with a delicate ecosystem.

    We had something very similar as your hoop coop as an indoor play area for the dogs at the daycare I worked at. Only downside is that green slime starts building up on the tarp (especially around that mid joint where the tarp rolls up to) so you'll have to power wash it every spring or it looks really nasty. They're very sturdy in the winter, only thing that collapsed it was a tree falling on it and we get lots of snow in our Canadian winters.

    Those roll up/down see through walls are becoming really common in structures where it snows. Big barns are now implementing them for cows and sheep where they're electronic and hooked up to a temperature and humidity sensor.

    That end camera.. I REALLY wish you would have a high quality webcam feed set up that just watches the recreational area of the ducks 24/7.
    You could move it into the winter house when that time comes.. but just having a 24hour feed of the natural behaviour of your feathered friends.. It would be so relaxing just siting and watching that in the background..

    I'm surprised the duck came back, considering what happened to his friends 😉 Glad you're letting him live the rest of his best life.

    Instead of rolling curtains up or down, you have a 2 wall curtain and BLOW AIR between the layers to inflate & increase insulation value when it gets cold, open the valve and bleed air out when it gets warm. In summer, the curtains can be deflated and rolled up like a Venetian blind.
    My friend Lowell makes these "cow curtains" and the control systems & related hardware. They are used in a LOT of bigger animal barns of all kinds-

    That crank strategy for the Hoop Coop (Trademark Pending) is a really cool and ingenious one.

    FYI, in the UK, we have a soft drink made from dandelion and burdock. Might be worth some research. It is, surprisingly, quite a nice beverage.

    That hoop coop is pretty cool. I would definitely attach a impact wrench to the mechanism to lower and raise the sides.

    I immediately thought of that duck that escaped death & I was hoping this story ends the same way. Good for that fella!

    This is when you need an Australian shepherd! I had two hens escape this morning. Without my aussie, I would never catch them. I LOVE my audience! And it's instinctual. Seems he just KNOWS what to do.
