Couldn't agree more. You'd be surprised by how many dog owners are ignorant to their pet's grooming needs when they shouldn't be. I can't even count on 2 hands how many doodle owners don't bring their doodles in for grooming until the dog is 7+ months old. And by that time ofc the dog is matted and won't tolerate grooming. Guess what the owner's #1 request would be? "I don't want him shaved" Never fails.
requires people to care enough first, and many dont. Humanity can be inherently selfish and and many people are lazy, naive, and inconsiderate enough not to care enough to do so. That's work, research, and effort. And unfortunately not everyone things 'an animal' is worth that effort.... Even though we're animals, too. :/ Then again, humans can't even treat each other right half the time.
I like this idea. I’ve educated myself on grooming needs for possibly getting a dog in the future, but watching this really helped me recognize how a higher energy dog would be uncomfortable/anxious. My parents talked about how their German shepherd would whine and be dramatic when they clipped his nails.
Gonna send this to a few of my clients. This is such a MILD case, too!! So many of the anxious dogs we get are dangerous to themselves and others, but the parents won't listen.
He was singing the song of his people and tap dancing! Other than that, what a gorgeous boy and I love GSDs. They’ve a presence like few dog breeds do! 😊
Yes, they do...the only breed I've had my whole life, they can be real *ss-holes, bull-headed as can be, and stubborn as *ell, but they are still the best breed of dog in the world...
Thank you for grooming him with positive encouragement. We work hard with our shepherd and love on him, but being away from the "pack" is always high anxiety for him. He will sing you the song of his people all day as though he is being tortured. He gets super long walks and we trade of training so he gets to work with multiple family members. He is a wonderful dog, ridiculously patient with my kids, but separation stresses him no matter how often we work at it. :-/
My girl is an old GSD but when she and her sister went to the groomer I never got any complaints. Just the hair lol. The one left is anxious and hasn’t been without her. I am nervous to take her but I know they will take great care of her. Thanks for this video! ❤
This is why I'm glad I made sure to desensitise our working lines and I always ensure they are mentally and physically tired before a groom, but usually I do it myself tbf
He winked when you said the drying snake must be exterminated 😂. My first GSD loved bath time. Tell him Tonka want a bath? Jumped in the tub he growled or grumbled at my husband if he came in the bathroom. That was his time with mom.

“Giant shining whiny beast” 🤣 My very calm, tired out dog (from 90 minutes of fetch this morning) woke up and got worried at hearing this boy whining. 😂
I've had Shepherds for 28 years (and worked with them a lot while working in a dog kennel) and found myself nodding vigorously in the beginning of the video as you described them (during his bath). I thought for sure he was going to bite you a few different times in the shower! You were pretty brave trimming his nails also-at one point I was worried he was going to swing around on you. At least he didn't do what happened to us when we bathed a certain Shepherd at the kennel; after his VERY stressful grooming session, he immediately got stress diarrhea. NOT fun.....
Don’t take it personal, I think he was inviting you to do something with him that he loves - run. I love the one comment about running the dog prior to grooming. I do this with my Great Pyrenees and Golden Retriever. The groomer loves them! ❤😂🎉
Its amazing how much the sound of his unmistakable German shepherd whimpering gives me vivid memories of my childhood dog Hank. They can convey so much with the different types of whimpers, the are remarkably communicative dogs.
As a fellow anxiety sufferer I could see Molson's anxiety right away and I've never owned a dog. Thank you for understanding him and trying to keep him comfortable
dog anxiety is quite a bit different than human anxiety and can sometimes be tougher to spot pff, so comparing the two isn’t necessarily.. good? but i can see where you’re coming from. i’m also happy she kept him comfortable. ^^
I feel pretty lucky now to have always had laid back GSDs to deal with - I'm a volunteer for German Shepherd Dog Rescue here in the UK, and while fostering was not my main role, I did have a few emergency short-term fosters that I'd pick up from the pound or owner surrenders, before taking them to longer term foster or rehoming. All of them needed a bath. I'm not a groomer so just gave them the basics of a wash and brush so they were presentable and not stinky, and they were all fine. There was only one who definitely needed a full professional grooming, as his fur was matted down to his skin. My regional co-ordinator is actually a professional groomer, so she told me to bring him over, and she and her husband spent HOURS patiently clipping and de-matting him. He was such a good patient boy and never made a sound, just kept giving kisses despite how long it was taking, such an angel. He did have to be shaved down drastically on his hindquarters due to the severity of the matting, but she managed to blend the shortest hair into the longer quite tidily so he didn't look too bad. Fortunatley he'd come from a home with kids of all ages, cats, and had grown up with a smaller dog, he was gentle, well-behaved, and an absolute star, acing all his behaviour tests, so he was rehomed within a week to a loving forever home who had been pre-approved by their local home checker.
We brush our girl Samantha twice a day and still the shedding is no where near under control. Lol, but we love every single one of those hairs nomatter how undaunting they may be 😊
What a beautiful dog! I think this video really demonstrates the importance of acclimating your dog to having his feet touched. With our dog this came in extra handy when he had to have a twig pulled out of his paw pad at the vet!
was watching w my bf, his comment was "i hope her insurance is good, she's gonna need a good chiropractor." this is sum srsly hard labour, bless your heart for working w so much effort on the animals you see!
One of my german shepherds is part husky and he is one of the most calm german shepherds I've ever seen, very anxious all of the time for no reason, but calm.
I’m a groomer and have my salon on my property. That’s exactly what my husband does when I’m dealing with a dog like that. I did an Alaskan Malamute today and it’s really hard for most women to not have any help at all in those moments. Sometimes my husband comes in just to check on me and make sure I’m still alive ☺️. At grooming school it often took 4 women to hold down a Great Pyrenees just to get the nails done! I love working alone but that’s the only downfall is the lack of muscle. Grateful my husband works from home👍.
Molson looks just like my GSD and kinda acts like her too!! Quite an anxious dog, and with people who aren't family that often shows in aggression for her. We had to take her to the woods for a little hike before her last vet appointment so she'd be too tired to care as much. Oh and she loves biting at streams of water and air haha.
My family had a German shepherd/black lap mix. Smart as hell. Hated baths but loved showing off how clean and handsome he was afterwards. As if he didn't whine our eardrums to bursting. Overall he was a damn good dog.
I had to laugh watching this video! Bathing and drying my Shepherds is a wrestling match when we go the dog wash. Now they just come into the shower with me and it is so much easier. Enjoyed your video very much.
German shepherds are actually really sweet if you raise them right and socialize them young. They are just very attached to their owners. I have one and he sounds intimidating cause he’s huge so he has a big loud bark but he’s so gentle and loves his belly rubs. He is best friends with my other dog Ruby and he knows the word careful. We have an invisible fence and whenever he gets close we say careful and he immediately backs up. They are also vey smart and obedient.
My GSD only had one professional grooming is whole life and he shocked me by being a perfect gentleman. He got skunked and I wrecked his coat trying to get the smell out. He hated being brushed or having his nails clipped at home. I was concerned because the groomer was 70+. She had a great ramp system for big dogs to get in the bath tub. She wondered out loud if he would go up the ramp and he just did it. Once I saw he would willingly listen to her, I left. They had a great time together and she reluctantly gave him back. Good dog. ❤
Never figured anxiety could be caused by boredom. Learned some thing today! I’ve been lucky that every shepherd I’ve ever groomed wasn’t aggressive for me. Thoug, I have had a few be absolute headcases about being wet.
Most working breeds need two things, at minimum, to be relaxed/happy: They need a ton of exercise to release pent up anxiety, and they need a "job" which stimulates their drive to work. This is basic working breed stuff. The energy release makes training possible. It's really, really difficult to train a working breed dog that's full of energy because they're basically a 12 year old child with ADHD.
My young dog just passed away of a heart attack about 3 months ago and something’s now missing I can’t seem to fill, then I found your channel! I love the story telling and explaining the dogs personality, filling up my new doggy void nicely❤️
I never knew German Shepherds were an anxious breed. I had a neighbor with a German shepherd, but she was well trained and her owner jogged with her all the time. That makes sense now why I didn’t figure they were an anxious breed because she was so well behaved.
You are an amazing woman! Molson is exactly like my Neo. I just couldn't imagine someone else giving him his bath! It's obvious you have a beautiful energy with all your dog's! Great vid!
I miss my German shedder my family had growing up. It was my dad's partner when he did the MP in Coast Gaurd and came with us when he retired. He was super calm and well behaved. I think you'd of LOVED working with him, he seemed to absolutely love all the things for grooming. The only part of him was fact he was an oversized shepard being around 135 of muscle and had the extra floofy tripple coat.
We have 2 Male German shepherds who have just turned 1. They both have hip dyslasia and are on pain medication as they will need surgery when fully grown but they do tire eachother out playing in the back garden. They have turned to grass to mud though and love playing with large empty plant pots!
Jolson is BEAUTIFUL!!! My Khia died in Sept of 22 she was turning 8 in December and I related to this video so much, even made me laugh. Bath time I think I ended up more wet lol. Grooming omg she was a long haired GS and I never thought she could handle the groomers so two hrs later I had her brushed and enough fur to make a blanket. The only thing she didn’t mind was going to the vets and having her nails done there. They are not stupid dogs at all they are like children who play off the parents. Let me aggravate you and maybe you will give in. I do love the way you treat the dogs can tell you love your job!!!

Wow Molson is a beautiful German Shepherd. I love how this breed has that slightly crouched slinky gait. I don't know how to describe it. I love his handsome face has the definite look of intelligence in his eyes. This breed needs an owner who is a little bit smarter than they are. Not everyone qualifies.
Shepherds can be a handful we had 130lb sable named Henry such a great dog . He could swim miles with no problem and was a great retriever , I didn’t know that about shepherds when we got him . He lived to be 12 years old . I miss him
Our neighbours had a German Shepherd, and I used to be scared shitless of her. She would let people into the yard, but not out again until her owners gave permission, and she acted as if she would rip your face off any time you came close to the fence. One time, we had her over because the owners went on vacation and went on ling walks with her, gave her treats, which she buried in our garden, and were nice to her. After that, our house was hers to protect as well, and she would raise absolute hell if somebody approached our house whom she did not now. What a fantastic dog she was!
Molson reminds me of my uncle's German Shepherd, Rinti. She's a lovely dog and I've practically been raised with her. Rinti hates her paws being touched and always tries to take her muzzle off by rubbing her face in the grass when we take her out for walks

@@thisisforvids I agree
The amount of respect I have for you cannot be measured. Simply thank you for you.
Great job being patient with the Shepherd. You obviously have experience the breed.
She owns one...
Beautiful dog. Maybe watching a grooming session with the breed you are getting ready to buy/adopt should be a requirement.
I agree!
Too bad videos of grooming pit bulls are probably banned from RUclips for gore!
I'm so glad there are people like you around to groom difficult dogs, he looked wonderful after!
Editing is funny.
*Starts biting the dryer
Immediate cut to him wearing a muzzle. 🤣🤣
great job keeping him as calm as you could and he's a very handsome boy!
My girl is an old GSD but when she and her sister went to the groomer I never got any complaints. Just the hair lol. The one left is anxious and hasn’t been without her. I am nervous to take her but I know they will take great care of her. Thanks for this video! ❤
Vanessa: "Thank you for making hearing protection necessary Molson"
Molson: *winks*
😂😂😂
This is why I'm glad I made sure to desensitise our working lines and I always ensure they are mentally and physically tired before a groom, but usually I do it myself tbf
He winked when you said the drying snake must be exterminated 😂. My first GSD loved bath time. Tell him Tonka want a bath? Jumped in the tub he growled or grumbled at my husband if he came in the bathroom. That was his time with mom.
Not just ours, then. He loved Showers, and, demanded them.
Aw poor sweet baby he is so adorable he looks like one of our GSDS who is 3 years old we have 2GSDS they are so adorable we love them so much it broke my heart to hear this sweet dog winning bless his sweetheart 🤗❤️🙏
Lol...German Shedder owner here. I make sure they all become familiar with the vacuum and the air hose of death from a young age❤
Mine hated the vacuum the second I brought him home at 7.5 weeks..still does..I have to put him outside! I couldn’t desensitize him no matter what I’ve tried!
German Shepherds will be your friend for life. They are the best & most loving dog breed IMO.
“Giant shining whiny beast” 🤣
My very calm, tired out dog (from 90 minutes of fetch this morning) woke up and got worried at hearing this boy whining.
😐
dog anxiety is quite a bit different than human anxiety and can sometimes be tougher to spot pff, so comparing the two isn’t necessarily.. good? but i can see where you’re coming from. i’m also happy she kept him comfortable. ^^
He’s sooooooo handsome! So much personality in that face. ❤❤❤
The torture was horrible....lol! You are so wonderful with all the dogs. Thank you for educating us as well.
I have a purebred German shepherd pup (9 months) and he is like this every time it’s bath tome unless I let him have his toys 😭😂
We brush our girl Samantha twice a day and still the shedding is no where near under control. Lol, but we love every single one of those hairs nomatter how undaunting they may be 😊
That look with the mizzle awe
Cutie pup🥹
What a beautiful dog! I think this video really demonstrates the importance of acclimating your dog to having his feet touched. With our dog this came in extra handy when he had to have a twig pulled out of his paw pad at the vet!
I can’t help teasing mine by barely touching his back foot pads, it tickles, he kicks and then tries to mouth me..makes me laugh!
was watching w my bf, his comment was "i hope her insurance is good, she's gonna need a good chiropractor." this is sum srsly hard labour, bless your heart for working w so much effort on the animals you see!
One of my german shepherds is part husky and he is one of the most calm german shepherds I've ever seen, very anxious all of the time for no reason, but calm.
His eyes are unique, beautiful
I’m a groomer and have my salon on my property. That’s exactly what my husband does when I’m dealing with a dog like that. I did an Alaskan Malamute today and it’s really hard for most women to not have any help at all in those moments. Sometimes my husband comes in just to check on me and make sure I’m still alive ☺️. At grooming school it often took 4 women to hold down a Great Pyrenees just to get the nails done! I love working alone but that’s the only downfall is the lack of muscle. Grateful my husband works from home👍.
My hubby and his sibling used to use their family's German Shepherd as a slide, he was super chill.
"German shedders". 😂😂😂
He is not aggressive.
Give him reassurance ❤
My GSD only had one professional grooming is whole life and he shocked me by being a perfect gentleman. He got skunked and I wrecked his coat trying to get the smell out. He hated being brushed or having his nails clipped at home. I was concerned because the groomer was 70+. She had a great ramp system for big dogs to get in the bath tub. She wondered out loud if he would go up the ramp and he just did it. Once I saw he would willingly listen to her, I left. They had a great time together and she reluctantly gave him back. Good dog. ❤
You are so good at this and so patient with even the most difficult dogs. I love that you give out information about them on every video.
No matter what, I love GS's! They are amazing dogs!
the 'air snake' I love it!
Poor guy. Poor you. Amazing.
My shepherd went from despising the bath to being OBSESSED. Don’t know which is worse at times 🙃
The best dog I ever groomed was a 15 year old borzoi mix who used to be a show dog but now lived on a farm. He was so still for everything
I had an appointment this morning for a German Shepherd. I'm actually glad they canceled.
Never figured anxiety could be caused by boredom. Learned some thing today! I’ve been lucky that every shepherd I’ve ever groomed wasn’t aggressive for me. Thoug, I have had a few be absolute headcases about being wet.
They’re high-drive dogs. They need focus to be happy, or they worry at every little thing instead
I love the story telling and explaining the dogs personality, filling up my new doggy void nicely❤️
i did too - what I find helps a little way to ease the pain is to walk my neighbour's dog
Molson's eyes are HUGE!!! Such a beautiful boy.
I call my dogs German Sheders, too. lol
What a sweet boy. He just wants to go home now.
I never knew German Shepherds were an anxious breed. I had a neighbor with a German shepherd, but she was well trained and her owner jogged with her all the time. That makes sense now why I didn’t figure they were an anxious breed because she was so well behaved.
He does look fabulous, good job!
You are an amazing woman! Molson is exactly like my Neo. I just couldn't imagine someone else giving him his bath! It's obvious you have a beautiful energy with all your dog's! Great vid!
Beautiful boy! Thank you for introducing us to another great character! "German Shedders" 🤣
You need to have a doggie treadmill, so the high-energy/high-anxiety clients can run themselves to serenity :)
What a gorgeous shepherd!
His widdle face though!!
We have 2 Male German shepherds who have just turned 1. They both have hip dyslasia and are on pain medication as they will need surgery when fully grown but they do tire eachother out playing in the back garden. They have turned to grass to mud though and love playing with large empty plant pots!
I love them .. they are so smart can’t wait to have another one
He’s so handsome! I love German Shedders!
Wow, his color was beautiful when finished!!! "German Shedders!!!" that's hilarious!
You are so so good with all the fur babies!!!!!
Luv your calm story telling voice ....
My daughter and her husband have a German shepherd mallinois mix. They have done EXTENSIVE training and are amazing at keeping him busy happy and healthy. I’ve been so impressed by the work they do with him. I mean, if Moose had opposable thumbs he could take over the world
Molson is a very talented Shakespearean tragedy actor, the performance was absolutely worth watching.
It probably helps that you are willing to get in the shower with him!
You both in the beekeeping hoods is adorable.
1. That dog is gorgeous.
2. Good boy for not getting snippy despite the anxiety.
Molson reminds me of my uncle's German Shepherd, Rinti. She's a lovely dog and I've practically been raised with her. Rinti hates her paws being touched and always tries to take her muzzle off by rubbing her face in the grass when we take her out for walks
